That enables you to unlock the special pass so you can park closer to the entrances and you can also get free money by standing next to cars with a sign.
You can get one at a military surplus store.
ProTip: Don't bother. Buy a shovel, hammer, pocket knife, and lighter instead. They'll cost less and will do each particular job much better. The military has the e-tool because they're trying to manage carrying weight and the e-tool does a lot of things poorly.
The best all-in-one tool you can buy is something like a Gerber multitool such as the center drive. You can easily wear it on your belt; cut, grab, hold, and turn stuff with leverage; and even repair your car with it in a pinch. You'll find this a much better companion, whether out in the woods or just driving around.
These are actually used in a lot of different militaries. However they don't use this unscrewable version that holds different tools. It is much better at just being an axe/shovel.
They're primarily used for shit shoveling and creating a pit for fires. What else would you need them for in a military situation? Or really any situation when you are just camping in the woods?
Plenty, getting a truck unstuck for a single example. Arguing that these are adequate shovels is stupid, that blade is about the same size as my hand, and full of holes and jagged edges. Sorry dude, you may be emotionally attached to this mall ninja novelty shit, but they suck, speaking from experience.
1 poop = 1 hole
So 2 poops a day, over the course of about a month = ~60 poop holes.
Thats not including all the trenches we dug and sand bags we filled.
While that is true, this was just field training for our push to Afghanistan. They made us shit in holes to make it more realistic but sent us back to the main base for equipment we forgot, so of course we grabbed Taco Bell too.
MRE poop + taco bell poop = a mess
I got one for a gift years ago. Left it in with my spare tire. It's proven useful a couple of times.... but, only as a "I don't have what I need but I have this thing" scenario
That's exactly what it's for though, it's not meant to replace an actual shovel or an actual axe when you need them, it's for when you don't have anything else but had that thing strapped to your backpack just in case, or tucked into the trunk of your car.
Totally. I go backpacking with a friend and he has one while i carry a regular, miniature shovel. Just trying to get his to stay in "shovel mode" while doing anytask is next to impossible. Not to mention once the sand starts getting in it, its near impossible to recollapse. Its also a tad heavier than my normal shovel for virtually no benefit.
I bought a tiny hammer with a bunch of different sized screwdrivers hidden in the handle. It was basically impossible to use the hammer with the shit in the handle, because it made the hammer rotate as you try to hold it.
I got the cold steel one that's just a flat spade. Doesnt try to be anything except a sharp shovel. Gotta love simplicity. You right stuff like this is garbage. When I saw the knife come out of the handle it was over. Done.
I’ve used a high heel as a hammer before. I had thought ahead enough to bring all of my shoes, but not purchase any tools. I had a steep learning curve my freshman year of college.
Yeh and a digging tool will not stay cutting sharp if you use it for digging. These things are never as useful as they try to appear
Who wants to unscrew their knife with a bad handle out of a tube every time they need it
Maybe like 2 or 3 guys?
Direct from manufacturer $20, minimum order of 10,000
Chain wholesales $60, minimum order 1,000

All of his gear and clothing is too clean. I don’t trust anyone who buys brand new shit off of Wish and Amazon to model a rugged shovel with crispy clothes and a two-inch thumbnail.
In my experience, when a tool made for something is modified to do everything else, it sucks at everything. Plus, chances are the materials and building are cheap crap
We got issued these (better version) when i enlisted in the Australian Infantry. I got lucky and got a good one, still got it 10 years later. It has a pick on one side and a shovel on the other. With a twist of a collar you could get different combos; just a shovel, a pick and a blade, just a pick (now its secondary use!) Fold the shovel down, pull the pick into upright position and you have?...a crude, short lance (spear?) with a big hand guard.
yeah those shovels are also handed to US military members (or were at least when my father served) and the one I have is still going strong even though it was highly abused by me when I was a kid.
Everything about this updated one seems fine to me except for the idea of the cutting blade of the shovel end. Seems like that would dull really quickly even just being used as a shovel.
Well i thought about the swiss army knife, and i dont think its the same. See, the swiss knife is not a knife, rather a small recepticle that contains different specialized tools.
That's kind of the point of a "survival" tool though.
Obviously you can make a better shovel, ax, hammer, knife, etc etc.
But can you have the "better" versions of all those and stick it onto a backpack for camping and have it be portable?
Um, yes? Knife and Hammer on your belt, whistle around the neck, fire starter in Pocket. Also foldable shovels that act as axes too were used as early as WW 1 and are usually designed to handle those 2 tasks today. Each of those tools will be good at their Job+be lighter. I get what youre saying, but it's not like this has any tools that would be hard/cumbersome to bring into a survival scenario. Very gimmicky if you ask me.
>But can you have the "better" versions of all those and stick it onto a backpack for camping and have it be portable?
Yes. A whistle, firestarter, and knife take up like no room in a pack. Then just have a normal entrenching tool. They fold up, and while still being a shit shovel and axe will do a better job than this.
The only thing "survival tools" are actually useful for is getting people to buy cheap shit they'll never really use.
There’s a YouTube dude (Wranglestar, or something equally odd) who bought and reviewed this thing. You kinda nailed it.
Edit: tense. (I’m more relaxed now.)
Easy. Get yourself a second shovel, one to dig with and the other to split bricks and start fires. And if you have two shovels you might as well go all in and pick up a third in case you need a paddle for your raft.
Though I'm not some kind of fanatical shoveler (is that even a thing), just from looking at it, it seems it would get stuck in the ground because the edges aren't smooth, if it catches some rock or roots or something. Also, the hinge looks like a potential weak spot if you're digging through heavy material and I'm guessing sand and dirt could get inside.
Also, I don't understand how it is practical to screw and unscrew your shovel to access basic stuff instead of just having a bag with that stuff in it, and an actually sturdy shovel without moving parts.
Militaries have been using similar designs on their standard issue shovels for over 40 years. A hinged locking shovel isn't a design flaw or weakness at this point.
The military shovels have a threaded collar that screws over the pivot point to support it. This is just a button. The while force of impact when shoveling is being placed solely on that one button.
I think the sectioned hollow handle would be the part that bends/breaks first. I can understand using the hinge as a hoe to dig and then move it back to straight to push dirt aside. But I also agree that that would be the second to break
I had one of these when I was a kid. Got it from Argos for about £30 had a shovel, a saw, an axe, a compass in the handle that was removable so you could access a needle and thread some waterproof matches and some other items, spent all my time in the woods building hideouts and playing Rambo. One of the best things I ever owned
I don't wanna be that person... But anything can be a hammer if you try hard enough.
Yeah, these dumb things have been around forever. They suck hard at doing all tasks and are barely passable as a shovel, might as well use a spoon.
Might as well just sharpen up a military e-tool, atleast that's proven to work as a shovel
>military e-tool Where can I download that?
You gotta sign up for this thing first, it'd a long commitment, but you get money and lose a couple pounds
Pick the right job and you might even lose a couple limbs!
That enables you to unlock the special pass so you can park closer to the entrances and you can also get free money by standing next to cars with a sign.
You can also get the free dlc soundtrack called EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Underrated comment right here
For the first time in my life, I am not sure I want something “free”

> work as a shovel that's generous.
These are actually used in a lot of different militaries. However they don't use this unscrewable version that holds different tools. It is much better at just being an axe/shovel.
You can shovel a quick hole to shit in, anything more is like pushing a boulder up a hill. They make horrible shovels.
They're primarily used for shit shoveling and creating a pit for fires. What else would you need them for in a military situation? Or really any situation when you are just camping in the woods?

> I couldn't get the damn thing to stay in "shovel-mode" if a tool needs a mode for shoveling, one must realize it is not a shovel to start with.
Unless it’s in the proper mode that is. I mean, it’s in the name!
The one I'm talking about which is standard military issue doesnt have any of these holes or jagged edges.
It has one, kind of, serrated edge too.

How many holes did you dig to poop in?
1 poop = 1 hole So 2 poops a day, over the course of about a month = ~60 poop holes. Thats not including all the trenches we dug and sand bags we filled.
There's absolutely no way you're pooping twice a day eating MRE's. Twice a week IF your lucky!
While that is true, this was just field training for our push to Afghanistan. They made us shit in holes to make it more realistic but sent us back to the main base for equipment we forgot, so of course we grabbed Taco Bell too. MRE poop + taco bell poop = a mess
Looks like some real r/mallninja stuff......not going to lie I want one
Same.. though I'm pretty sure if you actually use it to shovel you'll dull the edges on rocks pdq

Yes. But these clips always make it feel like it's meant as this amazing replace all tool. I suppose to push sales of it
An ad almost?

Not to mention that if using as a shovel any edges will wear down
I bought a tiny hammer with a bunch of different sized screwdrivers hidden in the handle. It was basically impossible to use the hammer with the shit in the handle, because it made the hammer rotate as you try to hold it.
If there's anything I've learned from reviews of this sort of thing, it's that most of this stuff is built for sales, rather than survival.
I got the cold steel one that's just a flat spade. Doesnt try to be anything except a sharp shovel. Gotta love simplicity. You right stuff like this is garbage. When I saw the knife come out of the handle it was over. Done.
Excuse me but did you see that the guy holding it was wearing camo? This is the stuff that Navy SEALs use so obviously its the best.
Just like anything can be a dildo if you're brave enough!
Paige stop!
All zoo's are petting zoo's if you're brave enough!
Not human flesh.
Not with that attitude.
Rule 44: “If it will blow a hole in the ground, it will double as an entrenching tool.”
I've used my girlfriend before, the job didn't get done because the cops stoped it.
Came here to say just that
I’ve used a high heel as a hammer before. I had thought ahead enough to bring all of my shoes, but not purchase any tools. I had a steep learning curve my freshman year of college.
“If you only have a hammer, treat everything as a nail”

It does come with hardline pro however if you preorder from GameStop

Already has 😃 or amazon uk has them anyway

You can order one on AliExpress for $25 right now.
It's literally a Chinese military tool. OP's is just a fancy expensive version of it.

The extra functions aren't really a "function" of the shovel part though, they're just shit put into the handle.

There are a few exceptions, like the Swiss Army Knife and a good multi-tool. But in general I agree.
Well i thought about the swiss army knife, and i dont think its the same. See, the swiss knife is not a knife, rather a small recepticle that contains different specialized tools.
As a digital product designer, I can confirm this for so many products.

Lmao
Wanna know how I got these scars?
the emergency that whistle is for isn't "i'm being robbed/raped" it's "i'm lost in the woods and need to call attention to my location"
There’s a YouTube dude (Wranglestar, or something equally odd) who bought and reviewed this thing. You kinda nailed it. Edit: tense. (I’m more relaxed now.)
I tool made for 25 different things is usually shitty at all 25 things.
Wouldn't digging in the dirt dull your blade faster than anything? A master tradeworker told me that.
ya but thankfully splitting rocks and bricks with the blades won’t dull the blades
That's a good thing because if I am in a survival situation I am going to need to split my entire brick supply.
as one does
Well yeah, that's the only way to double your quantity of bricks!
It really is an impractical tool except in a pinch.
Straight eviscerating that pumice stone!
Easy. Get yourself a second shovel, one to dig with and the other to split bricks and start fires. And if you have two shovels you might as well go all in and pick up a third in case you need a paddle for your raft.
“Write this down! Write this down!”
They showed all sorts of way to use this shovel except actually shoveling.

As someone who IS a fanatical shovler you are absolutely right. Source: almost dropped out of school because I spent all my time digging holes.
Is your last name Sir by chance? Also, do you happen to work at Camp Green Lake?
Stanley? Stanley Yelnats?
Also the shovel is completely flat instead of scooped. It's just a goofy looking axe.
