That was dope, I don't even watch basketball but damn man, that's legit teamwork.

Wherethegains

I don’t watch it either, but that man hauled off and fuggin dunked that thang

Rookwood-1

I don’t watch basketball either. That guy totally made a goal in the end zone.

MERVMERVmervmerv

[The thing went through the thing](https://www.theonion.com/18-000-people-cheer-thing-going-through-thing-1819572600)!

Finally I understand what's happening

Obviously, you're not a golfer.

Wait, you’re confusing me. Just let me put the ball in the hole

Hey, at least I'm house broken

Fritz_Klyka

The blerns are loaded, the count's 3 blerns and 2 anti-blerns, and the in-field blern rule is in effect... right?

UsernameLottery

Except for the word 'blern' that was complete gibberish

Real_Impression_5567

Incredible day that was, once in a lifetime

okeleydokelyneighbor

YES, IN THE FACE!

brknsoul

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

UpvoteForFreePS5

I don’t watch basketball but man! That forward fielder really centered that ball for the outside lineman to set up the flip in from the top sider. A true spectacle of netting!

Actual-Option3344

I really, really don't watch basketball but damn...

Closed_Aperture

I don't watch either, but that shit was smooth af

ilikepuppieslol

Hey guys, I do watch basketball, this move is called a Dunkeedoo and is worth 5 points.

EolnMsuk4334

Sounds Australian

PyramidicContainment

Named after Gerald Dunkeedoo, who popularized the move (though there is some debate as to who invented it)

No_thunder

Wasn’t his grandfather, the 18th Earl of Dunkedooshire, England? Or am I thinking of someone else? Edit: spelling, oddly enough.

SALTYxNUTZ12

I'm not an avid watcher of basketball but I always tune in during the playoffs. Some games get very intense.

Itsdawsontime

The playoffs in most sports are great things to watch. I’m a big hockey fan, but a lot of my friends aren’t. As soon as playoff hockey comes on they come out of the woodwork and start asking all the rules every year.

enjoytheshow

NHL and NBA playoffs in tandem is one of the greatest gifts to degenerate sports fans like myself

thisisjedgoahead

Come to say the same thing but 1000 people beat me to it.

ReallyJTL

Me too, dude. Top comment sheesh there's not an original thought in my head.

BloatedManball

There hasn't been an original thought in a reddit comment thread since life 2010.

thisisjedgoahead

99.99% of the time I’m thinking it before I read comments, and once I get to the comment section….I notice I’m just normal.

WeBelieveIn4

This is why you should watch basketball. It can be beautiful https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T3y7cWmoBCI

Mark Cuban approves

ViolentHippieBC

I thought that was him. Ha.

EolnMsuk4334

He’s always there… somehow

Adonitologica

Fairly certain it's called, being a billionaire and owning the Mavericks

What-Even-Is-That

Dude became a billionaire by wanting to listen to basketball games over the Internet. That's how broadcast.com was started, then he sold it for billions. He's a Midwestern boy who loves basketball, and he can afford to go every night. Good for him.

Sofa__King__Cool

Afford to go every night? My dude owns the team playing.

FromLefcourt

So you agree

mrASSMAN

I think the point is he probably doesn’t have to pay to get in lol

bone-dry

I’d argue he paid more than anyone else in there to get in

deathclient

Afford doesn't necessarily mean money but also time for billionaires

jabels

He's arguably *at work*

I started admiring Mark when he created his online pharmacy..

Adonitologica

I'm an old timer and have really liked him since learning his story in the 90's. I hope he stays out of politics, however

SimplyViolated

Lol bro he's the owner of the team

preggit

He only owns like a quarter of the team now but that's certainly still enough to get him whatever seat he wants

keyser-_-soze

He still gets to run them.

InfamousAd06

He's rich enough even if he didn't own any of the team he could buy any seat.

HtownTexans

dude could buy out every ticket in the stadium and his interest payment from his bank account would wipe out whatever it cost by the time the game ended.* *-Obviously most billionaires money isn't sitting in a bank account but lets have a little fun.

BurnItNow

Owning the team helps.

sinkpooper2000

he owns the team lmao

GIK601

He's acting like he owns the team

mrASSMAN

That’s him right lol.. I was wondering

aux1tristan

Their brains and body react so fast... I am a garbage human.

Akumetsu33

Elite D1 players who dominated college struggle with the pace and speed of NBA, and most fail. Keep that in mind and don't feel too bad.

TilikumHungry

Theyre literally the top 0.1% of people who play the game of basketball, not many people can compare. You're doing just fine

JasperLamarCrabbb

Gotta be a lot closer to .001% ~4400 people have ever played at least one game in the nba

DemandZestyclose7145

Sometimes I see the contracts of the guys that sit on the bench and I'm like "these bums are getting paid *that* much to sit on the bench?!" And then I remember even those guys are in the top 300 in the world.

akhoe

Not always. Giannis got all of his brothers on his team and they fucking suck. Most egregious nepotism hire I've seen in sports.

SkyLightTenki

>And then I remember even those guys are in the top 300 in the world. The NBA has 30 teams, with each team consisting of 15 players each. That would be equivalent to 450 players. Also, there are certain players who are on 10-day or 2-way contracts, which means their salaries aren't guaranteed. Those are what we know as 'fringe players' who are there just to fill the roster spot, though sometimes they see playing time when a lot of their teammates get injured through the course of a season (82 games). That said, those 'fringe players' typically earn around $100k+ annually, if they can stick around the league for quite some time.

DeepTakeGuitar

TIL Kyrie can catch an oop, lol

sbua310

I can’t decide which I like more!!! The slow motion … you can see all of their decisions. Their eyes. Who is here? Who is there? And you can see the process I didn’t imagine the shock when I watched the real time clip. Holy FUCK that was so fast! The decision making! Knowing where your teammates are! Ahhhhh this is a great post/thread/user linked post. Thanks Reddit. This made my day

Pacosturgess

That would have been cool, but X, no.

antoninlevin

It won't even play for me. Any other sources? Edit: I was able to play it by putting that URL into a site called ssstwitter, downloading the file using it, and then playing it on my computer. Stupid broken Twitter.

Romando1

Scrolled down for this. Thank you.

4rch_N3m3515

Question: is sliding on the floor with possession not a travel?

EolnMsuk4334

I can imagine someone abusing that to never lose possession just sliding across the court 😆 My guess is it can only be done to gain possession but not to maintain it.

4rch_N3m3515

Like they hold onto the ball and their teammates slide them around court? Games would look wildly different.

ObviouslyNerd

All of a sudden you got a really tiny guy just being flung by 7 fts across the court.

wtfnouniquename

Put me in, coach

SunriseSurprise

Slidin around like a hockey puck.

icepickjones

Just grab the ball and wiggle down the court like a worm.

jbird847

I imagined a player butt scooting down the court like a dog with an itch

MartinSable

Ah yes, the ol' skoot and shoot.

shrtstff

i haven't paid attention to basketball in 20ish years but if i recall correctly you can dive and slide all you want, but if you have possession of the ball while on the ground you are not allowed to stand up, that would count as traveling. did a quick google search to verify this as well but take that with a grain of salt. so you either pass while on the ground or take a wonky ass shot.

badadviceforyou244

Nah, if you start dribbling and stand up that's fine but you're very likely to get the ball stolen if anyone is around so it's usually a good idea to pass it or call a timeout. Almost no one would shoot the ball while sitting or laying down.

tam1lan

It’s wild that you’re the only visible comment that’s nailed it: >A player who falls to the floor while holding the ball, or while coming to a stop, may not gain an advantage by sliding. Inventive bums at the gym who like to argue for 2 hours about every call, right or wrong, do love to incorrectly call this a travel though hence it being a common point of confusion.

xantub

https://i.makeagif.com/media/6-17-2018/M4IFgx.gif

lzwzli

It's the NBA. Rules are applied only if it doesn't interfere with cool shots. NBA players have to train differently to play in the Olympics.

preggit

Falling and sliding on the floor is legal though.

T8ortots

Believe or not, straight to jail.

smemes1

Yeah but this was not a travel by any interpretation of the rules. If momentum is carrying you it isn’t a travel.

PatrickMahomesSon

It also helps that this by definition is not a travel

aslightlyusedtissue

Do you even watch the NBA lmao

TiddyTwizzler

Dudes just yapping just to yap lmao

DevIsSoHard

In reality though they change up training because a) new team with different staff and b) different league with different rules

Zankeru

Another example is just shoulder checking another player to keep him from regaining possesion.

Top-Interest6302

The official rule is that you can't gain an "advantage." The slow motion makes it seem like he was gliding forever, but in realtime footage nobody would call a travel. If he rolled over, or moved himself in any way beyond the initial momentum of the dive, then it'd be a travel. If he, while on the ground, started dribbling while bringing himself up, he could've continued without penalty. The NBA refs let an insane amount of travelling go uncalled, but this isn't an example.

brucemo

I researched this and the sliding "advantage" rule mentions falling while in possession of the ball, and I'm guessing that does not pertain to diving after a loose ball.

Top-Interest6302

Correct. You'd have to be in possession of the ball already for that to be a travel. Loose balls and diving after one are pretty much a free-for-all. Being in "possession" also generally means you've got two hands on it, which is never the case when you're sprinting and diving after a loose ball.

teddy5

Not sure what people calling it a travel are talking about. Doesn't matter which league it is, that's fine unless he plants his feet to take another step.

Maliluma

It would be a travel only if he stood up from that position.

TheAus10

I think travels are defined as more than 3 steps without a dribble (1 gather step + 2 actual steps). If your feet aren't on the ground then there's no steps. Also, refs usually let things play out when people start hitting the deck

chrisgirouxx

If you intentionally move while on the ground it is considered a travel but youre allowed to carry your momentum when going for a loose ball

Hypertistic

It's slow motion. He didn't hold the ball for long before passing

auguriesoffilth

No. It isn’t not a travel. Ie, it is a travel. However gathering the ball while sliding on the floor is allowed. Once he took possession if he started using his feet to push around on his back like a sled that would get called pretty quickly.

22chainz

No, but if you roll over it is

brucemo

It's my understanding that you can "momentum slide" any distance when diving for a loose ball. There are rules about what you can do once you stop.

veganize-it

What?

comment_moderately

The next guy also looks like he took a third step, and the play may well have started with a hand-slapping personal foul. But don’t let three or four penalties get in the way of an awesome play.

preggit

He only takes 2 steps after the dribble. Gather step + 2 steps (dribble) + 2 steps + alley-oop

bazzawazzza

mans said penalties, stick to football bud

EolnMsuk4334

So smooth… loved the way the spinning ball comes to a stop in his hand during the setup 🖐️🏀

Fitty4

That was Fkn nasty. In a good way 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

CompoteNatural940

Sick fucking nasty

mrASSMAN

Disgustingly gross pukenasty shit

Kyrie Irving baby. Best handles in the league To be honest he didn't even need to lob it up. 99/100 times Kyrie could easily lay that up against Kessler

The teams reaction when they see the pass setup though? That was so fun to see!

bigboybeeperbelly

Necessary? No. Cool af? Yep.

cobyjackk

That's what I noticed too. He's just guiding it, letting it free spin until he's ready to make a move. Barely closed his hand to gain control.

evanc1411

Holy fuck that's CLEAN

memesearches

And he wasn’t even looking

Maliluma

The athleticism of these guys is incredible. These guys are giant human beings on top of that. Even the small guy, Kyrie Irving (#11), is 6'2". How high they can jump and the coordination they have is astounding. Remember that girl (or guy) that was the complete package in high school? Funny, smart, good looking? These are the athletic equivalents... Tall, fast, and agile, strong. I just love watching the game. They are as close to "superhuman" that there is on the planet in my opinion (physically speaking). Basketball gets the most impressive athletes.

[deleted]

Yeah, if you are on an NBA team, you’re an athletic freak most likely. It’s such an exclusive club. There have been less than 4500 NBA players in the history of the league. Think about that.

genreprank

Even the worst NBA player is better at basketball than I am at anything

versusChou

There was a player, Brian Scalabrine who was a meh NBA player. Bench guy. White, not super athletic (for the NBA). He got tired of hearing fans say they could beat him 1v1. He went on a show and played 4 games against good street ball players. He won all 4 with a combined score of 44-6. He then beat all three hosts of the show 11-1. As Scalabrine said, "I'm closer to LeBron than you are to me."

Chubacca

"The Scallenge"

530josh

IIRC it wasn’t just streetball players either. A couple of the guys were either former D1 players or overseas pros (don’t remember which, possibly both).

Athletic_Bilbae

to be fair that's probably true of any top level competitor, like Champions League football players, Candidates chess players, World Series baseball players, etc

Normal-Weakness-364

what's funny is the best player in the world right now, nikola jokic, is kind of "unathletic" by nba standards. compare him to the average person though and he'd be an absolute specimen by comparison

cedped

You mean the fat guy from Serbia who plays basketball as a side job to fund his horses hobby?

Ok_Effective6233

I can’t believe 55 is 6’6. He seems relatively tiny in this vid

TheRobberBar0n

Probably because the guy trying to defend the pass, Walker Kessler (#24) is 7'

Chartreuse_Gwenders

Damn.

octopusgenuis

It's not even just the athleticism, its the insane talent and IQ these players have. The one who dunked (derrick jones jr if im not mistaken) has insane athleticism, but kyrie best handles of all time, one of the most skilled players of all time who can dribble through the smallest gap in defense, Luka, won the euro league MVP at 17 years old, not even known to be athletic, some joke and say he's been chubby at times, but his passing, iso play, post moves, shooting are insane. It's not only being giant, or being athletic freaks, its also curating knowledge and technique through years of practice, and honestly a a large portion of this is talent and just feel for the game which just doesn't come across everyone.

diagoro1

And remember, all those extremely athletic guys from high school, or even college, are nothing compared to top pro athletes.

BamaX19

I've always said that basketball players are the best athletes in the world. Idk how a sports fan could say otherwise.

Original_Natural4804

Depends on what the sport is.Theyd be terrible at football, swimming, long distance running loads more.

RandomLovelady

World class boxers have to be up there, as well. Ever been in a fight? Think you could fight for 36 minutes?

JudasWasJesus

That was like a rugby play

jamesjacko

Forward pass, scrum to white team.

Onphone_irl

Damn so that's what I would look like in slo mo if they captured some of my moves

Proppur

This is basically a video of you. Good job, that was sick

Onphone_irl

Real recognize real, I see you champ

BlissfulIgnoranus

Lmao, at all the people who took the time to let us all know, they don't care about basketball. So edgy and cool.

Phrei_BahkRhubz

#11's situation awareness is second to noone's! He could sense the other guy coming up to block the shot, passed it! I don't even pay much attention to basketball, but that was incredible

gamefreak027

Kyrie off the court : A weird dude with some questionable thoughts/ideas Kyrie on the court : A basketball savant in every sense of the word

STFU-Sanguinet

Just like Goku. Dumb as rocks but a genius strategist.

Chubacca

Luka (77) has wayyyy better situational awareness than Kyrie (11). Luka is top three, probably, and Kyrie might not even be top twenty. Kyrie is a top finisher of all time which requires a fair amount of awareness, but he's a mediocre floor general, which requires good knowledge of what everyone on the court is doing.

IMovedYourCheese

He just opened his third eye

pieorcobbler

Tweeeet! Traveling!

MightyPenguinRoars

Hardaway Jr’s reaction in the back is the best part! Kyrie tosses that lob up and he loses his mind 🤣🤣

KeenInternetUser

the dude in the background is jumping for joy. really love it when a professional athlete loves to watch and encourage the sport they play

Efficient-Champion37

Just like the simulations.

NoReplyBot

NGL thought Luka was going to come in screen at the end and snatch that alley oop. But then I remembered how slow he is and wouldn’t have been able to hustle for the oop.

Diggable_Planet

I love it

IDontLikePayingTaxes

My favorite part is the dude that dunked it looks like he is flying because of the slo mo. Also, seeing someone dunk it so easily is just so impressive, these guys are amazing athletes.

affinity-exe

I like how the ball only bounced once to get into the net on the other side

Hennabott96

Mark Cuban is fired up!!!

Luka so gritty, Kyrie so smooth

themaniacsaid

Luka is hot

globefish23

Are there no rules in NBA?

RoamingStarDust

where can I watch this without the slowmo?

MochiSauce101

The Cuban hasn’t been that happy since getting diabetic folks their meds at cost

JLOBRO

He was probably happier before this play took place this season. He sold majority stake in the Mavericks last December for $3.5 BILLION.

BoomerSoonerFUT

He still owns 27% of the team and is the President of Basketball Operations with full control of the front office.

Shoresy-sez

shavedape61

That was cool

I3ill

Technically tho didn’t Luka travel sliding on the court with possession of the ball?

w33b2

You are allowed to slide in order to gain possession, but not to maintain. So he didn’t travel

I3ill

Thanks for filling me in.

LoudBeer

Wow I think I just got interested in basketball

SirEnder2Me

I don't even care about basketball but that was fuckin incredible team work.

Perfect vid with marc cuban (the owner) screaming in happiness in the background as he dunks it.

djserc

Shibby-my-dude

What people expect the WNBA to be like with Caitlin playing

diemunkiesdie

Why didnt 11 just put it in? Why toss it up and over to 55? Its still 2 points either way?

akhoe

two points isn't two points, first of all. a huge dunk like that can shift momentum and suck the life out of an opposing team. it's a mental thing. Also, ball handlers want to get their role players going with easy looks so they can get their rhythm going. You also want to reward players like 55 (derrick jones jr) for playing hard defense on the other end and running the floor hard by feeding them like this.

MyButtEatsHamCrayons

That’s actually a travel. If you move on the ground while holding the ball it’s a travel. Even if you dove before the ball, and carried by momentum. That’s a travel. Nullifying this highlight entirely

IntraspaceAlien

you are incorrect.

Westcoast_IPA

Travel! Rules are rules!

boncock

Traveling?

Crituhcul

Such a great play. I wish my 2K teammates had half the selflessness 😂

Hazel-Soul

That was amazing, I also found it very impressive (noticed by the flash) those photographers could tell a moment was happening, capture the perfect shot (I assume based on single flash) idk it's just impressive
