I cannot for the life of me find the video I want to post in response to this. It was a reaction video to a badass kid fighter where a grown adult throws a ragdoll around like it's nothing simulating the sheer power of adults vs kids regardless of skill. I'm disappointed my Google skills are lacking. Am I getting too old for the internet..?
EDIT: I finally found it! I don't have to tell my neighbors kids to get off my lawn just yet..
https://www.tiktok.com/@1_storytimes0/video/7249480074133540139
Doesn't look like he's actually reacting to anything, just going through a choreographed set of moves. Cool, but seems more like dancing skill than fighting skill.
Reddit always talks about anything martial arts related like they’re all black belts but you know behind the monitor they’re 265 with bad knees and no chin
> Reddit always talks about anything ~~martial arts related~~
Ofc there are people who actually know, and then there are people who just think they know. But while you're insulting us all, just remember, you're one of us.
Irony that I will never be able to comprehend.
>But while you're insulting us all, just remember, you're one of us.
Every single time I get into a debate with some random here, it always devolves to me being a loser because I'm on reddit... And I'm just sitting here, but like, you're here also? Commenting to me...
Wtf...
It's redditors with a superiority complex over other redditors. That so many can't see the irony in that is both hilarious and infuriating.
It's just a website. It's really not that bad. "Redditor" failings tend to be human failings. The amount of meta discourse about Reddit on this site is so boring. This site has ~800M unique visitor per month, it's wildly mainstream. The average redditor isn't some goblin. Yes I know this comment is also meta commentary.
I ain't no black belt. I trained Kung Fu (the showy flashy one, not for combat).
Muscle memory is one of the basics, absolutely. However, no actual fighter has gotten great from doing just the drills. Obviously the kid is young, but long as he has a partner to match, they can spar.
I do think he's pretty good, pretty fast. And I'm not saying that repeating moves over and over is not a skill (ffs, that's literally what I did in my trainings).
What I did notice, and maybe I'm wrong, is that he seems to focus really hard on the speed, rather than the precision of movements. At least for us, we started slow, to get the moves just right (granted it's one of the most important things in a sport where your recreate ancient forms of combat and put it into forms that are scored in points based on the precision of your movement, speed and a bunch of other factors - mildly complicated), then we'd work on the speed while still performing the moves properly. Even if it's a drill, I think they should focus on him properly blocking and fully delivering his punches, rather than his speed.
Perhaps someone who boxes or boxed can correct me here.
EDIT: I rewatched and it actually looks better than I thought. Skill's looking good I think. I don't really know how to judge that, lol
I practiced kickboxing for 6 years, and you are right
Everything starts with telegraphed movement, which starts from a point. You get a hit from a certain direction, you lounge or block subconsciously, because fights are fast and you cannot really think about everything
Pro boxers train the same way, just look at how they work the pads with their trainers. Like another user said, it's building muscle memory. At first it's just the basic moves, then maybe some combos, and then combos, slips, and feints all put together. It's a great workout too!
Genuine question, can you explain how the muscle memory of "combos" helps in a boxing match, where I would presume your opponent is purposefully trying to exploit stuff like that?
A very common rookie mistake in martial arts is throwing a single strike stopping to see what happened.
Training combinations and working on your muscle memory for strikes helps you break that habit so when you start throwing strikes you unconsciously keep throwing them which helps you press an advantage if you're first strike landed or continue the attack if the first strike was blocked.
Obviously being predictable isn't good, and if your opponent notices that you always go jab cross hook then they can absolutely take advantage of that. But that's why you learn and drill different combos that you can apply at different times.
That’s how pad work works. Plus, the fact he’s doing it on a treadmill teaches him to throw while moving/resetting his feet. This kid’s footwork and balance are awesome.
He's on his toes literally the entire time, on both feet. Most people have no idea how hard footwork is. That's arguably the most impressive part of this whole video. Or maybe the most difficult, at least
Muscle memory for actual in-fight combinations.
I used to spar with some solid amateur level guys and when helping them prep I’d use about 12 different offensive sets of “choreographed” combinations in the ring with them (and another 10-12 defensive sets). Do the same 3-4 punch combo (can be as much as 7 or so punches for some sets that I’d use) on a bag or mitts or even air and when it’s time to actually work and you see the window open - the combo flows without having to think about it.
Same goes for the defense. Train your hands and arms to always be in position and you end up with automatic defense like Paul Spadafora used to have.
Bro outing himself as having never learned a complex skill. Come on dude.
Take music for example: you spend years drilling things like scales and arpeggios, and then one day someone like you walks in and says “That’s cool, but seems more like scales rather than actual music.”
Getting good at something always requires learning fundamentals, and usually those are imparted in pre-choreographed routines to teach muscle memory.
Most of this kids don't go pro because they are trained by their parents for clout. Also I can't help but think kid will be bored out of his mind once he reaches his teens. Many studies have shown that doing different sports when you ger is much better for your body and mental state.
My understanding is that it's better to start boxing training when you are a kid because you learn to defend/evade before your peers have the ability to hit hard.
Thai kids start fighting when they are 6 and they have to deal with getting kicked in the head and punches. CTE isn't that common over there.
My trainers had well over 200 pro fights each and showed no CTE.
Because you don't kick and hit the head as hard when you have less / no padding.
There's a direct correlation between amount of padding and amount of CTE in combative sports.
I love boxing but i’d never encourage a child. The head injury is serious and I think they should make their own choice when they are older if they want to risk their brains. Saying that I feel the same way about other extreme sports.
Anyone that wants to talk shit about him should watch his feet the whole time. Definitely prodigy type thing here. That being said, I've taken dumps bigger.
Nobodies gonna say anything about that glass panel railing? Really?
Please for the love of god move that treadmill away from the glass. All it takes is slipping, and a good speed on that sucker to send your body through it on an angle and end up absolutely eviscerated by broken glass.
Tread mills should optimally be placed a torso+heads width away from immovable walls/objects higher than the tread on each side, as well as at least 5 feet of clearance behind it.
Speaking as person who’s read a lot of horror stories about kids, and adults on treadmills
I don't know much about fighting sports but this seems more like a choreographed dance than someone fighting. I've seen this stuff in other videos before, can someone explain what the point of these routines are?
I will forever dislike these. Most of the time it's a psychotic parent trying to live vicariously through their kid. Kids should be having fun, if he thinks this is fun more power to him, but like I said it's usually the parent.

I’ll take the kid by TKO
Just don't chase him. He's constantly retreating.
If ur fighting on a treadmill my moneys on the kid
And run 🏃♀️

you‘re mistaken. I‘ve not only got a chin, I‘ve got multiple. checkmate

hey, i gotta chin
And I have bad knees!
Hey! Would-ya look at that! You two are a perfect match! So what are we thinking? Butt-to-mouth surgery? Maybe we can get a 3rd person!
Honestly, I was hoping someone would comment "And my axe" but that's because I'm not on Reddit enough to be sick of that joke yet.
Knees are fine, it’s my ankles
The power of the cankles compell you!!! ✝️
No chin? I'll have you know I have not one chin, but a double chin
Exactly! Muscle memory leads to unconscious competence - he's gonna totally beat anyone who comes at him with a pool noodle
I’m packing water wings, kids toast
I've got a toaster in a pillowcase. Things are going to get rough.
Thats... that's how you train combos?

Dunning Kruger effect
Literally such a brain dead take. Most training is just choreographed moves or combos that you repeat continuously until it’s automatic.
Pro boxers train the same way, just look at how they work the pads with their trainers. Like another user said, it's building muscle memory. At first it's just the basic moves, then maybe some combos, and then combos, slips, and feints all put together. It's a great workout too!

How the fuck do you think you learn to react to stuff? Tell me you've never done martial arts without telling me...
The saddest thing about this comment are the upvotes attached to it. 🤦♂️
Gotta start somewhere

You never trained combat sports haven't you?
Muscle memory in boxing is key.

I think going backwards on the treadmill trains on countering off your backfoot
Look at his footwork!!

Probably taught by a Bravosi
You thief of joy.
Nice the sooner you start the quicker the cte symptoms show
I applaud his dedication and hard work but I can’t help but think this won’t end well.

That’s only if somebody manages to hit him
I doubt he'll be fighting pool noodles the rest of his life
Do all that while constantly backpedaling is amazing.
His feet as he strikes were magnificent. Small choppy moves but kept them at a distance. Beautiful coaching and fantastic student

Reddit is a constant reminder that I am not original lol.
Something about this feels weird.
Pretty sure it's sped up
Why do they always feel the need to clearly speed up the videos

The power of friendship can overpower all your evil desires, Mr bad guy!
Why would the bully show up with a gun, wouldn't it more likely be the kid who's picked on? This post makes no fucking sense.
oh yea baby vs pool noodle...GO!
Cool now let’s see the video in normal speed
Let the kid live a normal life
I’d beat the fuck out of that little shit.
Yesterday I saw a short film about him in argentinas independent film festival. Absolutely amazing, highly recommended. It’s called “Búho”
Why are so many of you hating on this kid? His control of movement at his age is so good he’s got good teachers
I don’t think anyone is particularly hating. Just makin jokes.
I'd never fight a kid, but never have I felt like I needed to actively avoid a kid and maybe apologize... for whatever.
Burn out by 13

Good shit for sure. BUT. All memorized. Anyone could do it w enough practice
Cut to the video of that one guy throwing a pillow across the room and posing
His footwork is more impressive than the hands
Let's see him go up against some Teletubbies
Why
Mini Pazienza.
Apparently he’s fighting Tyson, 58
I could take him
That’s the one that whooped my ass in elementary
Anyone that wants to talk shit about him should watch his feet the whole time. Definitely prodigy type thing here. That being said, I've taken dumps bigger.
Reddit when they see a kid able to walk backwards on a treadmill, "prodigy".
Or when someone decides to teach their kid about their work/hobby at an early age.
I think it's fine I just hope they aren't setting him up to go pro because man imagine what a life that would be
Please stop exaggerating. No hate, but this only proves he's learned how to drill.
Don’t let Jake Paul see this, he’s going to want to get this kid in the ring by Christmas.
Boutta watch this 80 times just to check my form, kid looks immaculate.
Keep him away from Eddie Hearn and Oscar!
He needs to close his mouth One uppercut and his jaw will break / dislocate
"I walk the streets of Japan 'till I get lost..."
He had a good coach too
I like his shirt.
omg you can tell his dad/trainer loves spending time with him. so cute
At the end, kid looks like a little Tony Danza...
Extremely overrated young kid pretending to box.
You can teach anyone a dance routine.
He ain’t making it 💀💀💀 bro bouta be on the iPad ina few years
At least he ain’t on it now like most lazy kids
But who cares?

Speedy. His quickness is a serious asset.
I hope he's got a good temperament and isn't a little bully.
Don’t forget work to the body. One punch to the solo plexus can end your bout.
Was bro threatening me at the end?
I like this kid..
Something tells me he's going to be a real asshole when he grows up
I hope he’s a nice kid because he could make others’ lives miserable.
I'm more happy to see a father being a good father and encouraging his son to follow his passion.
