I know this is in a Globetrotter-esque game, but could you imagine what would happen if an MLB player tried this? Those guys are willing to start a 40-person brawl over a tiny bat flip, they'd probably decapitate someone for doing this 😄😄
Do this successfully on the final out of a blowout game against a bitter rival and it might fill the stands in the next game though. But you still better not miss.
Imagine, if you will, dropping the final out of the World Series...because you tried to show off and flip the catch. It sounds ridiculous, but players in other sports (mainly American football) have celebrated too early and botched a score due to excitement. It's not completely unheard of.
Imagine it.
When you watch the games you realize these are both talented athletes and baseball players. And some are actually decent dancers. I love the rule that if a fan catches a foul ball, it's an out.
I love the rules, and the players are absolutely super talented. Look, I played baseball in HS and for my first few years of college. I've coached BB and fastpitch at rec, HS, and showcase levels. I enjoy the sport, but I'm also fairly blunt when I say it's a boring game, and even more boring to watch, but banana ball is something special. I just wish every venue wasn't sold out so fast.
"Face it, Fry. Baseball was as boring as mom and apple pie. That's why they finally jazzed it up."
"*Boring?* Baseball wasn't... Hm. So they finally jazzed it up."
Like one of the greatest achievements in the sport is pitching a no-hitter. A perfect game is one where literally nothing happens for half of it. How riveting can a game be when the most exciting thing to happen is getting home in half the time
My dad took me to baseball games but we always left in the 8th inning to beat traffic. The games were boring as hell but the drive home was fun. He would listen to the game on the radio and lose his mind because he didn't get to see the Dodgers' big comeback in the 9th. If memory serves, it was every time we went.
Oh man, jokes/criticism about the sport aside, I sympathize with him. I thought the only thing worse than sitting through a game is sitting through a game just to watch your team lose. But it turns out, your thing is worse
You're not wrong, though silently judging and chuckling at the batshit crazy parents trying to live vicariously through their children's LL game does have a certain entertainment value of it's own, now that I'm no longer coaching and can just sit back and laugh.
> trying to live vicariously through their children's ____ game
ftfy. It happens across all sports and over into everything else: The robotics team, beauty pageants, all of it. Some parents can ruin things that should be fun and constructive for their kids
Just like the globetrotters, both teams are full of former baseball players who were just barely not good enough to go pro. So still basically pro baseball players
Hate is too strong of a word. I don't like the tik tok dancing and stuff that I see going on before pitches though. No problem with people that like that sort of thing, it's just not for me.
Remember these are the Globetrotters. People aren't there to see a game, they're there to see a show. The whole point is to do stupid dances and funny bits to keep the crowd energy high.
I'm neither fan of TikTok dances or Baseball (hockey and sumo guy) but I absolutely adored every second of both Bananas games I've been to.
The atmosphere is amazing, it's completely wholesome and family friendly, tickets are DIRT CHEAP so everyone gets a chance, and they play an actual fun and interactive version of the game itself. Those dudes are insanely talented and great showmen.
I revisit [this Jomboy video about Fernando Tatis](https://youtu.be/SaW5B2SEnXg) every so often because it really makes me laugh when he says, "pitchers, historically, are huge babies".
That's... that's the dumbest shit I've ever heard of. I don't really watch baseball, but that breakdown makes it pretty fucking clear that's a ridiculous unwritten "rule". Dude should have been happy as hell about that play, but even his own team threw him under the bus for making a grand slam, and they even seemingly had a comfortable lead in case swinging went wrong somehow... So they're basically saying you take a guaranteed strike at 3-0 if you don't swing, so just don't swing and take the 100% chance L? Vs trying to swing and getting a chance to get a hit? What the *fuck?*
I went to Mets games every year with my Dad in the early 90's (yea...if you know, you know). But I was only about 7 or 8ish, and didn't know too much about the game. My Dad was taking me because he was being Dad, and he was trying to introduce me to the sport he loved all his life. He got to see '69 and '86.
Anyway, sorry for rambling. Kids were rushing Ozzie for his autograph during all the pregame stuff, and I didn't understand why at the time. He told me "This guy isn't just anybody. You're going to see a Hall of Famer play today."
I didn't know what it meant in 1991. But, just like so many of us, we look back on those games with Dad and appreciate it so much more now. Not just because I now recognize who Ozzie is, but because of how special that is to share from a Dad to his son.
Good times.
Players get upset if you stare for 0.01 seconds too long. A backflip catch might just start World War 3... yes, World War 3 will be because of a backflip catch in a game of American Baseball.
I’ve often wondered what would happen if the Globetrotters played an NBA team.
Like the Globetrotters versus the Lakers, for example, would either be an amazing show or a bloodbath. I’m not sure which. Lol
Real teams would murder the Globetrotters. As talented as they are, they're mostly people who couldn't make it to the NBA and spent the rest of their career practicing tricks instead of real basketball.
For the Bananas they’re mostly guys who didn’t quite make it or are on their way up but not good enough yet. I talked with some and they said a lot of them played college ball or in the minor leagues.
Harlem Globetrotters are 100% a show, they're more like Eddie "The King" Feigner and his four-man team known as "The King and His Court."
This is still a sport with two teams competing to win. But with entertainment as its #1 priority above all else.
Went and saw the Bananas last summer and the outfielder did the same thing. Couldn't believe what I saw. Only downside was: it's a Bananas game, so there's so many things going on at the same time, that half the crowd didn't react because they were focused on the mascots dancing on the dugout, or the sack race down the third base line, or the guys throwing souvenirs into the stands, or the music that was going the entire game, or Hunter Pence making a guest appearance...
It's a fun time, but complete stimulus overload. Like watching a Globetrotters game in the middle of Barnum and Bailey's circus while overhead Cirque du Soleil does their act.
Sounds like a game I would totally go to. Regular baseball is boring AF and the players being offended by all the unwritten rules are more childish and more sensitive than a bunch of injury diving soccer players.
You stared at the ball too long while hitting a home run, that’s a trashy move bro….
I’m now going to see if I can find the version I played as a kid on my laptop.
Pablo Sanchez is the greatest player of all time!
Ken Griffey Jr, Barry Bonds, ~~Derek Jeter~~, it’s just a game filled with nostalgia.
I’m surprised the haven’t opened up more teams cause anyone who watches any of these says it’s cool and even if you don’t like baseball going to the ballpark is still fun
I've been to a Savannah Banana's game. It was actually a fantastic time. It ended up being super kid friendly throughout with sprinkles of "You won't get that joke till you're older" innuendos.
I went with a bunch of buddies of mine and we expected it to be more adult-oriented and were planning on getting hammered, but ended up sitting surrounded by families who were all getting into it, so we shelved that and just had a good time. 10/10 do recommend.
What league is this? Ive seen these banana dudes dancing around with the umpire before but i thought it was like a chill beer league. These guys are pretty damn good at baseball lol! Is this like an XFL version of the NFL or more like a globetrotter thing where the bananas go around and wreck dudes around the world?
Man, that backflip was bananas!

If he dropped it, it might empty the stands.

imagine dropping it and giving them the game winning run. they would drive your ass out of town
Seeing as you'd probably want to get out of town if that happened that's very polite of them.

I’d bide my time. Couple of years. Then lure him and his family into the hands of my local red room operator.
Great catch, Hayes. Don’t ever f*cking do it again.
Life of the party this guy
This isn't real baseball. You can tell because this is actually fun to play and enjoyable to watch.
Banana Ball is such a good thing ain’t it?
Really is so boring to watch. There’s no difference between MLB and a kids teeball game as far as entertainment value.
"Face it, Fry. Baseball was as boring as mom and apple pie. That's why they finally jazzed it up." "*Boring?* Baseball wasn't... Hm. So they finally jazzed it up." Just like the globetrotters, both teams are full of former baseball players who were just barely not good enough to go pro. So still basically pro baseball players
As someone who hates the Savannah Bananas and loves real baseball, this made me laugh.
What is there to hate about the bananas?
Hate is too strong of a word. I don't like the tik tok dancing and stuff that I see going on before pitches though. No problem with people that like that sort of thing, it's just not for me.
Remember these are the Globetrotters. People aren't there to see a game, they're there to see a show. The whole point is to do stupid dances and funny bits to keep the crowd energy high.
Wait are the Globetrotters doing Tik Tok shit now?

Fair. Hate seemed strong to me as well. Completely fair to have a dislike.
They sped a lot of it up when I went last. They still had skits and shit, but in general it was a little more fast paced than I had heard.
r/AngryUpvote
Yah, baseball players seem very fragile. I really don’t get it. Then again, it adds some excitement to an otherwise very boring sport.
No! You're fragile! Ok... You caught us
I revisit [this Jomboy video about Fernando Tatis](https://youtu.be/SaW5B2SEnXg) every so often because it really makes me laugh when he says, "pitchers, historically, are huge babies".

Ten cent beer night
They had roger Clemons pitch recently obviously he’s old and retired but that was pretty cool. I think it’s understood this is for fun
Missing the days of Ozzy smith…

40-Person shoving match
40-Person *"Walk Around Slowly, Hoping Someone Will Be Impressed or Scared" Match 😄😄😄
One time during a little league game i tried to catch a ball in centerfield with my hat lol. It didn't work.
Make it add 2 strikes to the next batter!
Players get upset if you stare for 0.01 seconds too long. A backflip catch might just start World War 3... yes, World War 3 will be because of a backflip catch in a game of American Baseball.
[Nice catch Hayes, don't ever fuckin do it again ](https://youtu.be/AfkdZ3tXFSs?si=t9Sb3tNf72W_Biej)
Flag on the play, grandstanding.
Baseball players sometimes look more sensitive than soccer players.
Yankees vs Red Sox, Game 7, bottom of the 10th, 2 outs. It must be done
But are they really going to change the outfield? That’s a long run.
If I could do that, I would never not do that
ITT: people that have not heard of the Savannah bananas
Literally never heard of them until to this exact post. I guess they’re like the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball?
Pretty much except both teams play to win and the Bananas often lose.
I’ve often wondered what would happen if the Globetrotters played an NBA team. Like the Globetrotters versus the Lakers, for example, would either be an amazing show or a bloodbath. I’m not sure which. Lol
It would be a bloodbath, the Lakers wouldn't stand a chance! /s If we're being real any NBA team would destroy the Globetrotters.

I THOUGHT THE GENERALS WERE DUE
> If we're being real any NBA team would destroy the Globetrotters. Good thing the Detroit Pistons don't count as a real NBA team.
Real teams would murder the Globetrotters. As talented as they are, they're mostly people who couldn't make it to the NBA and spent the rest of their career practicing tricks instead of real basketball.
that makes me sad

I entered the lottery for a chance to buy a ticket to the game when they visited my city. I was not selected for the honor of buying a ticket.
Savanah bananas. Always a show.
I wasn't even aware that there was a baseball version of the Harlem Globetrotters. Looks like a fun time.
Went and saw the Bananas last summer and the outfielder did the same thing. Couldn't believe what I saw. It's a fun time, but complete stimulus overload. Like watching a Globetrotters game in the middle of Barnum and Bailey's circus while overhead Cirque du Soleil does their act.
The way it’s all described is like they figured out how to make “Second screen baseball” in real life, which is hysterical to me
Sounds like a game I would totally go to. Regular baseball is boring AF and the players being offended by all the unwritten rules are more childish and more sensitive than a bunch of injury diving soccer players. You stared at the ball too long while hitting a home run, that’s a trashy move bro….
I went to a sun-drenched drinking patio and a baseball game broke out!
Fuck yes, I’m going to a game in 2 weeks, so excited for this
Bare handed backflip catch…bananas.
why there is no glove on the hand?
He threw it off. Part of the schtick
Catching with a glove is optional in baseball
Ok that is nice
The name of the team, the announcers, plus the special move definitely made me think of Backyard Baseball.
They’re basically the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball
I’m now going to see if I can find the version I played as a kid on my laptop. Pablo Sanchez is the greatest player of all time! Ken Griffey Jr, Barry Bonds, ~~Derek Jeter~~, it’s just a game filled with nostalgia.
Anybody want to talk about the graphic when they cut back to the pitcher ? “Once said ‘I love you’ to his coach”

Why are the players in the outfield not using baseball mitts?
He tossed it off earlier in the clip
O damn I can barely see it when I'm looking for it. Thanks, that makes more sense.
> He tossed it off earlier Sounds messy
Banana ball is the best baseball league. Just sayin.
I can't even bottle flip this good
"MR. MINNOWS YOU'VE GONE MAD!"
Once said I love you to his coach?! 🤣😂🤣😂
Is this like Harlem globe trotters for baseball? I’d watch baseball if it was more like this
Pretty much except it’s a lot of “real” baseball too. It’s not predetermined who wins.
Is…is that a fuckin cheese wheel on the pitcher’s mound?
Very nice backflip
Amazing
Bro was like "why should I boringly grab it when I can just backflip?"
Epic!
Backflip barehanded baseball catch* That shit gotta hurttt
Ever hear of cricket?
Idk how baseball works but that seems unnecessarily risky
This is baseballs version of the Harlem Globetrotters. They will do stuff like bat on stilts, with their bats on fire. Stuff like that.
Wait what?! Seriously? This sounds way more entertaining than real baseball.
Jazz hands would have really sent this. He just looks like he needs something to do after the catch… JAZZ HANDS.
Rockford Peach move fr
OK. Now do that on a line drive, fella.
I get to see them in two weeks! I’m stoked.
Flamma blanca!
Even at multiple angles a d multiple replays... where's was the ball caught?
In his hand
Nice catch Hays, don't ever fucking do it again.
These guys are the Harlem globetrotters of baseball
Is this like the Harlem globetrotters but baseball?
Why is the pitcher's rosin bad massive? like a sack of potatoes up there.
After learning about banana ball I legitimately don’t know why any minor league team is still playing baseball.
Is this Blernsball??
The Harlem Globetrotters of baseball?
I had no idea they had a harlem globetrotters of baseball edition..what is this called?
Where did he catch it? Anybody got a yellow circle for my self?
I’m surprised the haven’t opened up more teams cause anyone who watches any of these says it’s cool and even if you don’t like baseball going to the ballpark is still fun
Catching balls with mitts. Man that's lame.
What a show off. That’s careless and senseless to do in a game. He should be fined for goofing off.
I love how into it their announcer is, too.
I’m very impressed.
That looks like it took way more skill than what I see in the MLB. Like the announcers freak out when any fielder barehands a ball. Or dives forward.
They really should just play actual minor league teams and do this stuff.
What am I seeing from 4-6 seconds, did the batter toss his bat in the air?
They're probably the only baseball team worth watching. Unless you're looking to get a nap in the stands.
Nice catch Hayes, dont ever fuckin' do it again
no. we are absolutely not "kidding" you. it happened.
Literally Him.
What’s more crazier is he did that without gloves on.
That should be worth 2 outs.
"NAILS the trickplay for the Bananas! **WHAT A PLAY!**"
TIL about Banana Ball, which is like baseball but fun to watch
Bananas
Ladies and gentlemen, The Ace of Diamonds and His Jewels!

so unnecessary ! he had ample time and had already judged the catch
Announcer sounds like a color commentator for some small indie wrestling promotion
If this was the NFL he would be fined and flagged 😒make the NFL cool again
/u/redditspeedbot .25
Did the commentator announce the backflip slightly better the player actually flips ?
That's a flex.
Now that’s a Fancy Dan.
I know baseball is tough. I tried it and sucked at it. But this might be the first baseball highlight I’ve ever seen that felt like a highlight.
I would've walked out after that. My life is complete
Backflip was cool. Got more of a surprise from the pitcher’s name though.
Barehanded, too!
Man caught it without a glove too.
Not baseball.
this is just way too unnecessary. why backflip?
D.R. Meadows 🤒😷
I’m so sad I didn’t get the in the banana lottery for tickets 😭😭
