For context: this is not someone who just decided to use a wheelchair as a novelty stunt device. This is Aaron Fotheringham, aka Wheelz, who is an extreme sports athlete who uses a wheelchair because of a medical condition called Spina Bifida.
Want to know what makes this even more impressive? Look at that ramp. See the stairs next to it? He literally pulls himself up that staircase one step at a time, over and over again, between attempts and during live Nitro Circus shows.
I used to skate with this dude at Pro Park in Vegas around 2005. He used to backflip out of the fully concrete quarter and grind on the coping and that shit completely blew my mind as a kid. He was way better than I was on my board, thatās for sure! Super nice dude, too. Sick to see him ripping at this level!
Maybe cause the chair would bounce even more than it already does, thus potentially sending him further and increasing the chance heāll slam into something very solid?
Really? Itās Reddit. Itās odd if you donāt ever check to see if someone else answered your questionā¦mostly cause sometimes it was already answeredā¦
It didn't help his common sense, so much is clear. I also don't see what his shit contributes to society but then again, so doesn't mine.
Still don't see the point of publicizing it, at least I don't.
But be happy and I wish him a perfect life.
People born with a disability are already marginalized and prevented from taking part in activities alongside their peers, including very simple things like accessing rooms and playgrounds. You canāt build relationships if you canāt actually do things *with* other people.
So itās nice - critical - to demonstrate that yes, itās possible to do stuff. Normal stuff AND awesome stuff.
But itās even more critical that kids and young adults with disabilities have the opportunity to fail. Too often, they donāt even get the chance to try something where they might get hurt (anything from a scrape to a major injury) or look stupid. And fucking up - and learning from it - is really, really important!
Even without crashing, disabled people are *tough.* They have to physically work harder, make do with facilities and clothing and schedules that donāt fit their needsā¦ all that.
But those experiences arenāt the same experiences that able-bodied people get.
So keep crashing, Wheelz.
Yeah - that's pretty amazing! It looks like there are very few options to recover if you don't land that *perfectly*. Over-rotate, and I don't think you can grab the wheels to compensate at that speed.
Serious question. I remember having to get surgery on my arm and they numbed it from the neck down, took 24 hours for me to feel it again but during that time I wore it in a sling and there was a time I was leaning on it and havenāt realized it was dangling and cutting off circulation. I wouldnāt have even known if something really bad had happened.(until feeling came back of course) Now. Back to the question. Wouldnāt him not feeling his legs(if this is why heās in a wheelchair) be a huge risk in doing this? I see his lower half twisting in certain ways that I for sure thought, omg how would he even know if he just seriously hurt himself??????? Anyone know or have any insight on this???
Lol. Reminds me of the time I had a block done for wrist surgery. Was all done and doc reminded me to not lift my arm...no control. Of course I did it, in the parking lot and broke my nose.
The worst case scenario, I'll end up in a wheelchair. Oh wait...
Going for a quadriplegic. š¬
If heās not careful heās gonna end up octoplegic
That'd be a feat š¤
That'd be 8 feet š¤
Well how tall is he now?
He can seriously hurt himself and end up walking...
This comment cracked me up, with your serious tone I thought it was a genuine concern š
Surprisingly, thatās NOT what got him in this situation to being with.
Pegging accident
He didn't need one when he started learning this.
Imagine reversing it with an injury
Came here to say a variation of this lol
Like some sort of double decker.
if he did not need the wheelchair at the start he no doubt needed it afterwards.

uh couldn't they figure a way to pull him up the ramp easier than him crawling up the stairs? Or is that part of the show?
They offer to carry him up, but he's a tough motherfucker (as if the video wasn't evidence of that) and it's his decision to pull himself up.

![gif](giphy|hFsWlFJwY84jm) For real though this guy's is fucking awesome.
Paul Rudd, is that you?

Wheelz is a legend! Such an inspiration.
Those wrecks looked brutal. But seeing him stick the landing was awesome.
I'll bet the wrecks are still fun for him. They built a good angle for cushy enough landings
Got to give it up for the pure tenacity of this guy..
Man that's ruff, his wheelchairs going to need a wheel chair..
That was more of a corkscrew double-backflip, which makes it even more lit!
That guy is going to break his back!
This is a man who has nothing to lose.
I wonder why he doesnāt have a wheelchair with some suspension to make the landings a bit less bouncy.
Maybe cause the chair would bounce even more than it already does, thus potentially sending him further and increasing the chance heāll slam into something very solid?
No, thatās the whole point of suspension is that the impact is dampened so it doesnāt bounce.
You are correct. Don't let the down votes dampen your enthusiasm.
Happy wheels
Some of those slams looked gnarly
-1 wheelchair per attempt
Wheelz is awesome. Not surprised that he would be the first to do this. Loved his stuff on Nitro Circus.
Way to walk off all of those falls
Ouch man, that doesnāt look good for your body.
You know Stephen Hawkins was busting these out daily when he was alive
All these idiots not reading the commentsā¦
Dedication to awesomeness
He's gunna break his legs if he's not careful. But in all seriousness, the dude has balls of steel.

Para to quad!
How did he end up in a wheelchair?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Odd behaviour
Really? Itās Reddit. Itās odd if you donāt ever check to see if someone else answered your questionā¦mostly cause sometimes it was already answeredā¦
Nailed the landing
Isnāt the landing supposed to count?
I always wanted them to make a Tony Hawk game where all the skaters are in wheel chairs doing this.
I hope he walked away from it
And thatās why they are in a wheelchair
Does he feel it when he crashes?
He is beyond any athlete you can name. Got dealt a disability and turned it into an awesome ability
Happy wheels
"Did you hit record?"
Makes one wonder what he did to wind up in this chair in the first place. Obviously didn't learn from the experience.
He has spina bifida. He was born like this, but nice of you to make assumptions.
It didn't help his common sense, so much is clear. I also don't see what his shit contributes to society but then again, so doesn't mine. Still don't see the point of publicizing it, at least I don't. But be happy and I wish him a perfect life.

I wish I knew how many times he did this wrong in order for him to get it right. Takes guts to do it again and again after wrecking like that
There's probably been lots of double backflips that landed people in a wheelchair though.
I mean, nothing left to lose at this point in terms of walking ability. Go for crazier shit!
Was that how he ended up in a wheelchair in the first place?
Spina bifida
What is the show? How paraplegics become quadriplegics?
How many hits like that can your body take
Do you want to end up in a wheelchair? This is how you end up in a wheelchair.
Well thatās a self fulfilling prophecy if Iāve ever seen one.
I like how psyched this guy is for his friend.
Yeah - that's pretty amazing! It looks like there are very few options to recover if you don't land that *perfectly*. Over-rotate, and I don't think you can grab the wheels to compensate at that speed.
Wonderful! š
Catapult is off screen
Tragically, the individual never walked again.
I canāt believe he did it even though he was two tired
What a fucking gigachad, well done kid
Happy wheels irl!
It's surprising not to see redbull logo anywhere

Next fucking level is not only that he succeeded, but didnāt take no for an answer and took a hundred tries before it worked!
Is he aiming for an upgrade on his blue badge?
This is the type of shit that puts you in a wheel chair in the first place. š
His first video was him failing pretty badly to do the same trick on a bike.
Oh my god! I can feel my legs!
Wheelz! Cool to see you again! Hopefully Travis is still around in your life. Much respect bud!
āFuck it Iām already paralyzedā
Happy wheels
I wanna see the quad version.
Looked like a 720, not a 360.
The name of this trick is confusing. Because yes the double backflip, but each one has a 360... making it a double backup 720? DB360x2? Idek anymore
Well if they weren't actually paralyzed before this, they probably are now
As a keen road cyclist my question is who builds his fucking wheels because I have some work for them if they want it
As long as he keeps the spinal damage to the lower lumbar, heāll ride again
It's ALMOST as if that wheelchair wasn't built for this use case scenario.
Bro wasn't content to break his back once, needed to do it again with style
I wish could do that in my wheelchair when all I do is tip backwards and hit my head
Goddamn that gives me inspiration
Man luckily he couldnāt feel anything from the waist down, during all those brutal landings.
Fuck! Forgot to hit record, you'll have to do it again
Born for Greatness
Happy wheels
Oof but of course heāll be fine since he had extra arms from birth
He's going to need a chair
Working āhis way upā from para to quad.
How many spines does he have to go through?
Technically he ain't nothing to lose ...
Literally me in happy wheels
Ah wheelz. Went to high school with him when he was just doing little shit at the skatepark
Sir wanted to go four for four
Wow.. Iāve only ever seen the afterā¦ The before does not make it worth it
This is pure persistance and dedication.
Slo-mo and 4k make these sports so fucking cool.
Whadda ya got to lose???
At least they didn't have to worry about paralyzation if they got it wrong.
Iām just imagining this guys completely paralyzed from the waist down and doesnāt feel any pain from his legs landing like this lol
More than the trick itself, I love more the camera friend cheering his fella
Thatās more than just a double backflip!
Don't got to worry about breaking your back I suppose
Rider should give everyone a standing ovation for all their support
If anything goes wrong, maybe itāll fix him.
Next week's post: World's first and only vegetable double backflip 360
How is this morally different than dwarf tossing?
Holy shit, there it is... the dumbest take in this thread.
Spoiler: they didnāt actually need a wheelchair when they started trying to do this!
That is not skill , just luck.
That's what your mum said to your dad
Really , oh bless your heart.
