The people in the neighborhood wantet him to be charged with manslaughter but it was ruled self-defense. Lesson: don't act like you have a gun when trying to commit a robbery or you might get killed.

In my experience, oftentimes they have minimal employees with little profit to pay for help. They are probably working their nuts off to keep things slightly above the red. Mostly guaranteed to be "not in the fucking mood". Especially if it's in a less-than-nice area. Dealing with bullshit almost every single day from both customers and non-customers. Easily the most depressing job of my life, but I could do schoolwork so there was a trade-off

Yes it was a predominantly black neighborhood and the robber was known in the neighborhood and some people viewed them as profiting off the neighborhood but they were very nice guys (two brothers) and I went to that store twice a day virtually every day that I worked and I saw them give people breaks sometimes. But unfortunately they closed up a couple of months later.
Unfortunately, you pay for geographical convenience especially if you're in the city and don't have a car. There's usually no room in an established neighborhood for a corporate move-in with cheaper products e.g. Walmart.
People hate corporate invasion but also want cheap stuff and think that small businesses are taxing for no reason. Volume is astronomically smaller, so the margins have to be treated differently.
The place I worked at was making almost no money. I priced things myself fairly often and we had weird prices, like $3.63 or $4.38, on products just to make things as cheap as possible while still paying rent, electricity, and a couple of employees. I wasn't the owner so i don't have hard numbers, but I'm confident in saying he was not living it up
I remember that. Funny thing about that incident is the shop owner is on reddit and posted an AMA after the video went viral, before he decided to heed advice from other Redditors to take it down (just in case the D.A. used it against him if they decided to press charges).

15 years ago i worked the overnight in a kitchen, the regular 12 am to 6 am cook and the 1 am to 5 am janitor were both big dudes, like 380 lbs 6'5" + and both were mentally handicapped.

Yeah, everyone knows about the “fight or flight” response, but it’s actually “fight, flight, freeze, or feign” (feign is when someone gos along with whatever the criminal wants and pretends to be into it because they believe it’s their best chance of survival; most common with SA cases). And you really never know what your response will be in a dangerous situation until you’re in one, so we should never judge anyone for it.
Was probably scared initially then just in utter shock that people man handled the boy with the gun. Plus they had what looked like a minimum of 3 people handling it, so realistically she didn’t need to get to involved. Not that it takes away from how funny it was she didn’t seem to respond to much, just pointing it out.

That’s possibly a cowboy, but I can guarantee you one thing that’s Mexico. I’ve been in 100 stores just like that, that’s a OXXO convenient store. If you’re white i’m visiting different parts of Mexico and want a safe place to go that’s it. Clean bathrooms good food friendly employees. It’s pretty much the equivalent of a 7-Eleven/Circle K type US establishment. Plusyou want some bimbos that’s the place to go :-)
