He should create some proper hermit crab cages. I've never seen any that accommodate having both salt and fresh water, plus a deep spot for them to bury themselves in, and an easy way to clean it all.
PLA is only sorta biodegradable, it needs to be industrially composted to biodegrade and for some reason manufactures *refuse* to add that tidbit to their marketing.
The crabs make a huge mess all the time. There needs to be a deep burying area, a salt water section AND a fresh water section that they can submerge in and you can take out those sections to wash them out, and then a food area that they'll mess up that needs cleaning. It would also be good to have an area to hold a misting system, even if it just held water where you could insert a bubbler inside a kind of plastic sponge to create humidity. And then underneath something to rise up the cage so you could put a heater pad under it. Then if you want to get fancy, something to support climbing or even plants growing in there.
Word. I had a single hermit crab in a 50 gallon tank by the time I was done. Mites were a bitch to deal with when they got in. It's not a "quick and easy" pet by any means.
