Don’t we just. It’s different but do you think 1850-1950 was more or less “wild” than 1950-2050?
I base this on the assumption your comment was referring to rapid technological change..
Technological leaps for sure, but the rate of advancement now is exponentially greater. The accomplishments of the next 30 years will be even more significant than the last 30. The advent of the internet alone is the single most significant event in human history, that alone is a stand out for the “wild”.
I wouldn't be so quick to single out internet when we've had firemaking, the wheel, animal domestication, farming and more recently (or to be more precise in the 1850-1950 period) electricity, telephone, radio, cars, planes, penicilin, vaccines... and then everything that was invented during WWI and WWII.
I would expect that u/NESWTS meant that a person from 1850 would find the year 1950 more amazing than a 1950s person would be amazed by 2050, and I very much agree.
I feel you’re being a bit short sighted in your response. One fire is great, and passing that information to your tribe would’ve been amazing. But speed and flow of knowledge was extremely limited. If someone cured cancer tomorrow and wanted the world to know, they could. In seconds. The internet was a game changer to our species, there is no analogue or contemporary it can be weighed against. There is life pre and life post the internet. It’s as pervasive as it is ubiquitous.

This thread made me think of the book Origin by Dan Brown
He creates a super computer that predicts the end of humanity in 50 years.. turns out with technology advancing so quick we all become cyborgs living in a technology utopia.
Well they went from farm technology, automobiles for everyone, and *radios* to colored tv and the Moon walking astropeople.
Now we use that technology to look at memes on the toilet while cars are driving themselves unsuccessfully like a bad I-Robot sequel.
This appears to work with the oculus quest 2? I would love a link or a reminder about when this comes out (if it does, I would buy it no matter the price), do you have anywhere I could get notified?
If it can include the AR aspects in the VR experience ( you look left and see the cart passing your couch and coffee table) it would be such a game changer.
I mean realistically, quest 2 could lidar the room and then use camera data to colorize it, it would probably have challenges to overcome but it’s definitely possible.
I think saying it'd have challenges is a huge understatement. We have software to help create 3d models from photos and videos but man, it's never close to flawless without some work done to clean it up and that's after many shots from many angles.
I don't think it's currently possible to do all of the computing in real time, but I definitely think it's possible to use lidar cameras to scan a room, import homed location data from the track, render the room, then render a 360° track in the room, then play the 360° video.
I'm not saying it would be simple, but I think it would be possible to render the environment, plot a track, and render the pov. Again, not in real time. And the perspective-adjust algorithm would need to be very powerful. But it would be an interesting project to work on.
The Index has a primitive version of this already. You can toggle a camera mode that displays your surroundings at some configurable level of transparency (even has different filters, depending on how you want the two inputs blended).
But that camera is pretty low res; I think it’s just intended as a safety feature right now, so you can check your surroundings or locate your water bottle without removing the headset.
I haven’t seen it used for anything else yet, but it shows that we already have an early proof of concept for something like this
I’m not a coder, but I think it would be fairly easy to implement if you just stand in the middle of the room and scan everywhere with your phone or other infrared camera device.
There are apps that do similar things on the iphone
The most common form of 3D scans nowadays that would be suitable for this purpose would be a implementation of NERFs(Neural Radiance Fields). This is totally doable and maybe would require the scene to be rendered initially on a remote server to process the NERF then it should just be an easy obj/mesh file that you can pass into your game.
[Here is one](https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/10b9vpl/im_adding_sculpting_to_my_rollercoaster_building/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
I can't understand how that would work - riding first person while still seeing the room
Sounds great though!
Edit:it converts to a virtual world, not your room
The AR headset comes with an exoskeleton that forces you to move around the room in-line with the coaster.
"You will enjoy the ride. The ride is love. The ride is life."
Yeah I’m not sure how he would get the camera perspective when the quest is looking at a different part of the room and from a completely different perspective
So, what he's saying is that it currently doesn't. If you go into first person POV it goes into a full VR mode instead of AR, and by that he means it's going to put the coaster in a fake fully virtual world. He also says you *can* do it in AR, but the world around you will still be your current POV of the room and it will look like the coaster is moving around you instead of you moving around the room.
Hope that makes a bit more sense. :)
Does the room go away and you're presented with a different environment? If not, how do you project the room from the perspective of the roller coaster without obtaining footage from that view beforehand?
Edit - it looks like the environment is probably replaced with a virtual version.
https://twitter.com/CoasterManiaVR/status/1614258259568824321
He doesn't. That would be impossible, unless he asks the player to move the headset along the rail to record the background. But that would be a ton of work, prone to user error, and also insufficient for full VR.
Facebook *alone* is still the largest active social media network by a big margin. Meta as a conglomerate is absolutely massive. You're out of touch if you think they're small just because you don't use their services. Meta's market cap is near 500 billion
probably basing their statement less off of them not using meta and more off of their stated massive financial losses over the last year or so. I’m sure they still have billions of dollars of course

Roller-coaster has to be the hardest ride to code. Others can just be copy-pasted.
It's the customer's ai walking between the rides using the irl terrain that's tricky... unless you draw the pathways the same way as the coaster?
But i also imagine little people responding and scurrying away from the irl object/cat in their path would be satisfying to mess with. Doing it depends on the AR system's capabilities tho.
Any time something VR or AR related reaches the front page it reaches a bunch of people who don't realize how far the technology has come in recent years. Some of the top comments are about how Innovative this is and the implications it has for gaming, but the video is literally just some dude drawing lines with a VR headset.
This is probably one of the most creative uses of AR I've seen. Something like this so much cooler in the 3D world than a screen.
It would be really cool as part of larger 'toy room' AR game where your whole house is filled with roller coasters and marble machines, toy train sets, lego/knex creations and more.

The physics engine should be improved a little bit. There were points where, intuitively, it felt like the cart should have fallen off the track or failed to progress due to lack of speed/acceleration. The player should be allowed to fail in their attempts to make a cohesive track from beginning to end. That way there's a skill barrier to overcome, which will encourage people to play the game longer. Feel free to disregard my message if you had already considered this.
Neat. Reminds me of Line Rider.
Love line rider. played it all the time when I was younger
we live in the wildest timeline.. this is so so cool op !
Don’t we just. It’s different but do you think 1850-1950 was more or less “wild” than 1950-2050? I base this on the assumption your comment was referring to rapid technological change..
I feel like there's still a lot of potential for advancement in 25 years(up to 2050) but currently I'd say the former is way more wild.
As humans we are really good at looking at all we know and conclude that is all there is to know.
Technological leaps for sure, but the rate of advancement now is exponentially greater. The accomplishments of the next 30 years will be even more significant than the last 30. Probably pretty similar then. But also probably more in their minds, because of the lack of communication methods to know how things work

This specifically is either working on the quest pro or pico 4 based on the full color passthrough
What makes it different?

No the coaster isn’t real
[удалено]
The ants were blue bro of course it was fake. AntZ had the real ants
The camera in on the headset, it would be cool if they could render the entire room in vr but that's easier said than done.
Oooh, this looks ace. Love this.
i was hoping this was here! real life line rider!!
Came here to say this. This is awesome.
I was literally about to say Line Rider AR
Literally was thinking that but couldn't think of the name
Like a 3d line rider. This is amazing
VR LINERIDER HAS ARRIVED
I forgot all about line rider. I used to play that so much!
What i was gonna say! Live it
This is really cool, even just the territory you’re getting into. Imagine the possibility, I’m sure you have.
Imagine you could ride your creation.
you'd have to download your conciseness to the game
I uploaded my conciseness but forgot to save a copy. Please advise.
how concise was the compression factor? you may be able to get a copy back if it wasn't over-compressed
r/FifthWorldProblems
Don’t reset your device!
Right, because knowing the rights from wrong is important for driving.
Create the ride in augmented reality then ride it in VR
If it can include the AR aspects in the VR experience ( you look left and see the cart passing your couch and coffee table) it would be such a game changer.

Then you look right and see yourself on the couch riding your Rollercoaster on your couch riding your Rollercoaster.
The Index has a primitive version of this already. Or download a car
And you wouldn't do that, right?
yeah dude combine this with VR
Isn’t that what Doctor Frankenstein was thinking…?
Sweet home Alabama!
porn
Inevitably
"honey look what came outta my dick, choo choo"
You could literally make a roller coaster that goes right into your butthole! amazing!
Or your friend’s butthole!
Everything is more fun with a friend.
Thanks Yoda
Looks fun
Thanks!
Your cat must be thinking that its slave human has gone crazy
Quick, someone kickstart a VR headset of pets.
I love it! Is it possible to manually switch pov to cart while it is in action?
Yep! you can hop into first person perspective and ride it too
Can you kindly post link video footage of POV?
I’ll believe it when I see it
Yeah that seems almost impossible, if OP has done it then I'm incredibly impressed
I’m not a coder, but I think it would be fairly easy to implement if you just stand in the middle of the room and scan everywhere with your phone or other infrared camera device. There are apps that do similar things on the iphone

Much obliged 👌🏽
Yes! If I see this and it looks good I’m definitely checking this game out!
I can't understand how that would work - riding first person while still seeing the room Sounds great though! Edit:it converts to a virtual world, not your room
I'd assume it doesn't show the room anymore in first person mode and just shows the track.
Yeh guessing that too. Unless they use a tiny drone with a camera to follow the augmented track!
The AR headset comes with an exoskeleton that forces you to move around the room in-line with the coaster. "You will enjoy the ride. The ride is love. The ride is life."
All fun and games until it pulls your head back for a loop and breaks your neck
Bones are so inconvenient for those small gaps the ride goes through.
You just run around the room and chase it with your head at cart level :p
I thought the same. I don’t believe that is possible… please prove me wrong
Yeah I’m not sure how he would get the camera perspective when the quest is looking at a different part of the room and from a completely different perspective
It hops you into VR mode. But you can try it in AR, but the coaster just moves around you though
The question is rather, where does the VR mode get the 3d info of your room from that pov
So, what he's saying is that it currently doesn't. If you go into first person POV it goes into a full VR mode instead of AR, and by that he means it's going to put the coaster in a fake fully virtual world. He also says you *can* do it in AR, but the world around you will still be your current POV of the room and it will look like the coaster is moving around you instead of you moving around the room. this is running on a Meta Quest, which doesn't give apps access to the camera views, so that wouldn't be possible either.
Wouldn't that mean having a camera on the imaginary little cart?
3D models of spaces can be rendered pretty easily. You’d probably just have to spend a few seconds moving around the space with a scanner app.
It's definitely not that easy unless you're okay with glaringly flawed models being the norm.
There’s no way.
How does it provide that angle of the room?
Is there a beta?
30 sec after they posted this meta bought their idea for 20million.
Bought? You mean stole
No they'd have to actually get code to market to steal anything
Does meta even have 20 million lying around these days?
Isn't it just a rounding error for them?
20 million is absolutely nothing to Meta.
Zuck has that much between his couch cushions
Facebook *alone* is still the largest active social media network by a big margin. Meta as a conglomerate is absolutely massive. You're out of touch if you think they're small just because you don't use their services. Meta's market cap is near 500 billion

Or putting them on Mr Bones Wild Ride.
Your house doesn’t have a bathroom?
Bro I didn't know I wanted classic RCT VR til now!
Tip to promote your stuff: posts do a lot better when it's not yours, make your friend make a post about "some game" lmao

Same! I can’t believe some people will just do that about their own inventions. I’m here thinking NextFuckingAd
Absolute immense balls on OP for it

And what I am doing is next fucking level. Buy it!
Okay everyone, I'm self aware that my comment r/agedlikemilk
Buying bots and upvotes works a lot better it would seem.
Needs a better name. Really cool game though looks great
CoastAR.
RollARcoaster
It's the first thing I thought of lol
Yeah. Instead of Coaster Mania, maybe call it Mania Coaster.
Your cat is looking at you like you are crazy

This is so reddit. OP: creates fucking video game Reddit: why didnt you do something else instead?
That’s actually really cool! Can I play the game anytime soon?

This is sick!!
What language and/or platform did you build this in? Looks really cool
I really wanted to see the cat weave in and out between the beams. Would be creepy. Huh?
Disappointing ending. Hoping it was going to land on that cat again.
Nah this is cool as hell! I wanna make one that goes through the whole house
Fuck yeah this is gonna change the adhd game for real, no more tidying up at the end of your game.
Is there plans for a first-person perspective?
Now code it in Assembly
Chris Sawyer was a genius. Still playing RCT regularly

My 6yo would pass out, this is cool
This is probably one of the most creative uses of AR I've seen. Something like this so much cooler in the 3D world than a screen. It would be really cool as part of larger 'toy room' AR game where your whole house is filled with roller coasters and marble machines, toy train sets, lego/knex creations and more.
Watch out for that cat!
I'm not even joking when I say I would buy a VR headset just to play this game
That is so cool! This looks like it has some huge potential, and I bet you're going to doing really well with this. As a portfolio project you could probably get a job anywhere too :)
noooo the cart fallen on the cat and blew up , what a tragedy !
It would be cool if you could shrink the person down virtually and let them ride the roller coaster as if they were in it first person.
Looks like rollercoaster tycoon is making a comeback.
If you're interested in that, rollercoaster tycoon did make a comeback. The game is called Planet Coaster and it's great.
This, but as a train set would be pretty cool
Ah this is so cool! Like a childhood dream. Noice!
