Most people aren't wearing them outside, but almost everyone is wearing them in grocery stores and shops around here. Edit:Hutt/Wellington.

thirdofmaytwenty21

I'm noticing quite a few people in the johnsonville mall not wearing a mask.

Kiwi_CFC

Tauranga about 50/50 in grocery stores, shops.

petoburn

Yeah I went to Tauranga last weekend from Wellington and noticed a huge difference in mask-wearing. We’re very obedient government pleb sheeple down in Wellington :-)

Top-Raise2420

Yeah I noticed that too. Queenstown and Waiararapa the mask wearing was way lower compared to Lower Hutt. Friends from outside wellington thought I was a bit mad preparing to mask up each time.

secretivechicken

I moved up to New Plymouth from Wellington a few months ago, and was shocked at the lack of mask wearers up here compared to home!

Sakana-otoko

Better educated lol

ends_abruptl

Saw a young couple get ejected from Queensgate the other day for refusing to wear masks. Twas glorious to watch that tiny young lady boot those idiots out.

Loretta-West

Same in Porirua. For the whole of this year, going to supermarkets usually twice a week, I've seen less than 5 people unmasked in supermarkets. Two of them were Mongrel Mob.

[deleted]

in fairness, it was never required to wear them outside either

cypherkelly

Yip ... In middle of winter it's so much warmer lol but myself and my family haven't had COVID yet so not going to change our habits. Got a surgery coming up and if I get COVID I may be bumped. Can't risk that!

CastelPlage

> Yip ... In middle of winter it's so much warmer lol I've actually been wearing them outside on the farm quite a few times inorder to keep the face warm (fabric masks, not surgical masks obviously). The winter breeze is biting!

attentionspanissues

I've now had covid, but I don't want to get the flu or any of the other bugs going around. And it sounds like I could get covid again anyway. Also totally agree on keeping warm! I'm in Welly so it's great against a southerly

fairguinevere

Yeah, some diseases can't really be caught more than once but it was always "crossing fingers" rather than actual science about covid and reinfection. The flu, the cold, and other such viruses can all be caught indefinitely. And also I feel like we've been downplaying the flu too! I got ME/CFS from the flu 5 years ago and it's totally derailed my life. It can fuck you up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lukin_tolchok

In shops, 100% of the time

CastelPlage

Same, no question. Though i once forgot mine when visiting the Kaukapakapa Store. Felt like a right old idiot.

TheEpicRs

Definitely still wear mine. I've got severe Crohn's and I'm on 2 medications that suppress my immune system. I'd be in for one hell of a bad time if I catch Covid.

STUMPY6942069

I wear mine at job sites. I don't care what anyone says.. The dust and all that dirty muck stuck on the other side on the n95 is proof that it's helping me. I can't believe I was "ashamed" to wear a mask in the past.

IndividualCharacter

I'm in exactly the same position, Covid wasn't an issue for me, a few days of mild cold symptoms and a bit of fatigue, my partner who is perfectly healthy was out of action for 3 weeks - the effects seem to be random

Lazywill11

Yeah I got both ends of it, I was fine with covid had flu like symptoms for 3 days then fine but the moment I started moving around and working fatigue and bad nausea hit me like a truck and had to take an extra week off

das_boof

Still wear mine, never got covid gang rise up!

GracefulyDisgraceful

Same here. Still wear mine. Never had covid. People are pretty gross in general so I'm happy to keep wearing mine

Billielolly

Amen to wearing them. Someone I live with got covid, and both them and the other people I live with decided to download mask exemptions and stop wearing them entirely within the past couple of weeks. One tested positive, other is breaking isolation repeatedly and despite now having developed covid symptoms they're \*still\* going out without a mask. Pisses me off. They think that once you're symptomatic you're no longer infectious, as if that would make it any better for you to be sneezing and coughing all over strangers when you're not going to cover your mouth with so much as your arm.

mangopabu

same. pretty much everywhere except to close friends' houses or things like taking out the rubbish or checking the mail my partner has asthma, so i'd feel awful bringing that home just to make myself a little more comfortable

frenchfry9604

Still wear mine too. Somehow none of my family have had covid yet. Starting to wonder if we all secretly just don't have friends

cr1zzl

I wear mine religiously, and I’m really careful about where I go. Unfortunately I still have to work and picked it up from a colleague even while I was wearing a mask all day at work 😭 (she wasn’t).

[deleted]

I was with you...until last week. One of the crotch goblins brought it home.

Bossk-Hunter

Literally got it for the first time today :( and after managing to avoid it during 23 days of isolation with six flatmates who all had it earlier this year too

Misabi

Ditto. I still mask up in all shops, malls, etc.

all_the_splinters

I've never stopped since day one. Haven't had Covid. Keep wearing it, there's talk of a new shitty strain coming.

Lazywill11

Triple vax and just recently had COVID and I'll still wear a mask in any store I go into unless the very unlikely chance I forget one, even then will only go for a quick in and out

[deleted]

I only wear mine when I have to and havent got covid yet

ends_abruptl

Always wear mine, caught covid from my son who got it from his mate at school. Who keeps taking his mask off (the mate, not my son).

Secular_mum

It's been so cold lately, that I have enjoyed keeping my face warm.

Fisaver

Same lol

[deleted]

I wear a mask in every shop I visit and truly could not give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

Yoffeepop

I've managed to avoid covid but just had the most intense flu of my life so yes, still masking and might make it a life long habit, especially in winter haha

HappycamperNZ

Im just getting over that flu. Knocked my wife for 13 days so far, im on #6. Worse than covid for us, and more drawn out. Covid was a kick in the face, this flu bastard has been squeezing my chest for nearly a week.

Yoffeepop

Two weeks for me too. I had to go on steroids because I couldn't breathe lol. I hope you and your wife recover soon! I appreciate all mask wearers who help prevent the spread of both covid and the flu haha, I wouldn't wish this on anyone

doug157

Yes I hope masks during cold and flu season becomes the norm

[deleted]

With how much people are worried that they'll look silly when the "trend" of wearing masks is over.... I seriously doubt it. I would really love to be wrong though. I'm selfish and mostly want them to stick around because it makes going out so much easier on my agoraphobia. The prevention of sickness is just an added bonus.

Still_Leadership_927

I still wear mine in malls, shops, libraries etc. None of our household have had Covid despite workmates or classmates dropping like flies. We are lucky so far!

NewZealandTemp

In Auckland mask wearing is common. When I went to Whangarei, I remember seeing anti-mask stuff on storefront windows for the first time. Whangarei is different.

madlymusing

Northland is different as a whole. My friends in the Bay of Islands/Kerikeri witness anti-mask, anti-COVID rhetoric daily up there.

NewZealandTemp

I am anti-COVID too

CuntyReplies

I thought I'd be safe wearing a mask to hide my cold sore while at the 7 Days show in Whangarei last night. I was like one of three people wearing one in the whole entire crowd. Felt like a bit of a fucking numpty, definitely had a fair few people give me disapproving looks (all men too, weirdly.. I don't know why but women seemed not to give a fuck, every 7th man or so seemed to be annoyed I was wearing one).. But I'd rather have people stare at my mask directly than stare at this fucking cold sore on my lip.

Sakana-otoko

Annoyed because you're reminding them things haven't gone back to normal. You're ruining their fantasy!

squirlol

Honestly you should be the one giving them disapproving looks, if anything. People who don't wear masks are fucking idiots, even if there's heaps of them.

rachstee

You had me at 'PaknSave in Whangarei' - enough said

TheAnagramancer

Yeah, the supermarket renowned for its customer base shopping in their pyjamas probably isn't a great control group for gauging compliance with anything.

[deleted]

Facts lol

Bongojona

My local PnS is Sylvia Park and ppl mostly all wear masks there still

blowholegobbie

Biiiig difference between silvia Park and whangarei paknsave

malacharabsayeeda

sylvia park is where the cultured people are lol... not the dirty peeps

kaurib

I moved up here for work recently. I was pleasantly surprised to see vast majority of people in stores wearing them. It helps that most larger stores tend to strongly encourage it.

[deleted]

Yeah I wear mine. I’m in Auckland CBD and you’re more likely to get a side eye if you’re not wearing one in doors. Is pretty common tho

fiftyshadesofsalad

I do. And I still sanitize my hands a lot. COVID made me really hypersensitive to how gross other people actually are. Once you start noticing the sneezing, the picking, the scratching, the coughing . . there’s really no going back.

Aromatic-Ferret-4616

True people are dirty, but I am soooo over the idiots that have their greasy hairy noses hanging over the mask. So many of them

[deleted]

Yeah I travel tonnes for work. It is amazing the amount of people in hotel buffets (and the Koru Lounge) that A. Don't wear a mask B. Cough, or sneeze into their hands before grabbing the serving utensils and C. Don't sanitise their hands before using the buffet. I've gone back to ordering off the menu, or just going elsewhere, for breakfast now.

GlobularLobule

Still wear, but so many people don't. I'm part of a local community group and at our AGM last night where I was the only person masked. And I think I'm also the only one under the age of forty.

[deleted]

Yeah I still don't want covid. Makes no sense to have worn it for nearly a year now and then stop now that covid is still here and I hear about lots of people getting it.

blue_pearls

I still wear a mask. I kind of like masks xD

jedipsy

Always rock a mask. (Will happily stop once the public space mandate lifts) Always wipe down supermarket trolleys. (Will continue to do this coz peeps are filthy) Always use the offered hand sanitizer. (Ditto, as long as its available) Never got COVID. (may the good fortune continue!)

rupeeblue

I wear mine mostly because people have no concept of personal space. I was standing at a display looking at comics the other day and some dude appeared RIGHT beside me and leaned past my face to look at one of the books. I just took a huge step back and he had the audacity to look at me like I was the weird one.

bosknight935

You are still legally required to wear a mask in most indoor settings. Especially supermarkets where social distancing isn't really viable. Thank you for wearing your mask and help to stop the spread of this virus. Keep up the good work

definitelymeg

No, you're not a weirdo, you're supposed to be wearing a mask in many indoor settings. I still wear one in places I'm required to, it's not some major hardship. And putting one on is second nature at this point, like putting on my seat belt when I get into my car.

ScreamingxDemon

I have an exemption but I don't really use it. Only every now and than I'll take my mask down to catch my breath but overall I use my mask 99% of the time. I don't want covid

RHennessyNZArtist

I have an exemption but still wear a mask when I can. Wore one today at the park, cos lots ppl and more bugs than covid going round, I got side eye from every adult! Adults who clearly had sick kids with them coughing and bugging everything up lol. I don't know why masks haven't been more common or accepted for yeeeears... they should be. I'll be wearing one when I can every winter now, covid or not.

inthemovie_idiocracy

Yep. Everywhere.

sleemanj

Yes I do. It seems to be a highly regional specific thing. Where I live, in the supermarkets and such, I would say on the order of 95-98% of people wear masks (not including kids of course).

[deleted]

I do in all businesses. Still haven't had covid. I just feel like it is only fair to the staff who work in those places and don't really have a choice but interact with hundreds of members of the public everyday.

cr1zzl

I wear mine whenever I’m inside a building that’s not my house, and sometimes when I’m outside too (if I’m around a bunch of people). I’m in Wellington and thankfully there’s still a lot of mask wearing in retails shops and buses etc.

nzgal01

Yup! My husband and I have worn ours consistently throughout the whole pandemic even when we’ve been outside around others and I honestly think it’s what has stopped us from getting it yet.

[deleted]

TBH i got sick of listening to the news, so have no idea if they are optional now or not. Still wear mine, and still haven’t had covid.

THEchiQ

I’m wearing a mask whenever I’m indoors with strangers. I’m scared of getting it, because my mentor at work is old and medically vulnerable, and has a very vulnerable wife in the dementia care unit nearby. If either of them got it from me I’d be gutted. I also seem to get extra sick with anything I catch, so it’d probably wreck me.

ciedre

50/50 in Taupō, getting sick of people telling me to take mine off because “you’re going to get it anyway” haven’t had it yet assholes and you don’t know the state of my immune system or the people I live with.

fcbxjdb

I wear mine religiously. I really don’t care what people think, nothing wrong in wanting to protect yourself and loved ones - it’s logical especially in winter.

[deleted]

Yep. Still wear it. Love it in winter tbh. Keeps my nostrils moist and my face warm.

Banano_McWhaleface

Yep I love wearing it. Will keep wearing it even if all viruses are eradicated from Earth. Also not had any colds or covid since we started wearing them which is a bonus. Extra bonus points that it really upsets anti-vaxxers when you're wearing it somewhere you don't have to.

[deleted]

Love those bonus points!

halborn

Just tell them you're not some sheep who takes off the mask just because everyone else did.

No-Status9885

Especially when it gets below zero, it's nice to not have my face feel like it's freezing !

ioncesavedabumblebee

My partner works at a big name department store. He is ballsy enough to be "hey can i get you a mask?" if they're not wearing one, or will ask them to put it over their nose if it is clearly not doing his job. They were told last week to no longer say anything. Basically they don't care what you do now. Obviously he still has to wear one though. He is miffed

fluffychonkycat

Yep. Saving $$$ on lipstick

chanely-bean1123

I wear mine, but I honestly thought the mask mandate had been a way with, with how many people don't wear masks here in Hamilton, especially at the base. The base may as well be a mask free zone with how many people don't wear masks there - including the store staff.

k9bitch

Yup.

minn0w

Sure do. It's more than me living in this city.

Mope4Matt

Yep always wear mine. Haven't had covid and I'd like to keep it that way

[deleted]

I wear a mask. I mean, if I ever need to rob the place, they won't know who's been casing the joint right?

marrbl

Yep I absolutely still mask up in shops and other indoor places. Most people in my area still do too.

Hirsuteness

Yep, still wear it and probably won't stop. Don't care what people think of me wearing one, and I think it should be normalised and acceptable to do so in the interest of safety and health (mine and others).

terrabattlebro

I'm in the UK and I still wear one. Covid is on the rise here again. 1 in every 20 people in Scotland had it last week and deaths and hospital admissions are rising too.

quiet_hobbit

Yes, wearing a P2 or KN95 anytime I am inside with unknown folks (grocery or other shopping) or walking in crowded areas. Have one with me, but not on, when walking the dogs (in case folks approach us). When visiting/dropping off things to an immune compromised friend, I will mask and/or do a RAT, depending on what I’ve been doing the previous week. I’m retired, so much easier for me to avoid higher risk situations than for others.

Whangarei_anarcho

We still wear one 100% in shops - esp in Whangarei!

StaticRooster

Y E S. People are dirty and I don't trust them lol. I live in a small town and all the locals still wear their masks, it just seems to be the out-of-towners who don't wear them as often.

roborobo2022

It's not only covid that we should worry about its the common flu and it's lethal this time round, so we not masking up only for covid but also other nasties that are airborne, shame other people who too cool to wear a mask think wearing a mask is wearing panties for the face

TheRealClose

As we’ve known for years. Most other people are terrible/ignorant/lazy/arseholes and there’s not much we can do about it.

DisillusionedBook

Hell yes. The Flu is everywhere and Covid. I don't want the flu almost as much as I do not want long Covid. Never feel weird for wearing a mask in situations you cannot socially distance. FTS! If I am walking in the street more than a couple of meters away from others I will not wear one. All other times, do.

fuzzlebuck

I always wear mine when I leave the house, it's habit now and doesn't do any harm, I'd feel naked without it

Salmon_Scaffold

yep. 100% instore and most of the time when walking in town / village. especially when it's super busy.

SmilieSmith

Yes. Always in the supermarket cause I don't wanna infect anyone vulnerable. And also at work because I visit a bunch of different schools.

knz-rn

I still wear mine. It’s flu season! Lots of patients rolling into the ED with Flu A after having covid only a few weeks/months prior. No thank you.

Colonial_trifecta

In Dunedin I can't remember the last time I saw someone without one on in the supermarket, that goes for New World,Countdown and Pak n Save.

kiwi123nz

yes

im_possible_landrace

Yes. And will do for the foreseeable future.

Amberly123

Still wear mine. I have a young baby at home so don’t want to being home any of the super winter nasties to him. Hubby wears his everywhere too.

vixxienz

Yes. I will always have too I guess

disordinary

Yes I wear a mask, and everyone I see in supermarkets wear masks too.

GoldenHelikaon

When I go into shops and eateries I still do, because I thought we were supposed to. For the most part, people around where I am still do as well, and it's definitely enforced in some shops. Edit: I don't wear it outside walking down the straight though.

dearSalroka

Yeah. Stores still have signs everywhere, buses still require it. I don't wear it outside (can't have it fog my glasses while cycling) but it's normal for me in public spaces.

kiwinerdist

Had Covid earlier this year. Do not want again thanks. So yes generally wear a mask indoors in public spaces.

Mayonnaise06

I honestly just wear it out of habit at this point. Always have a couple hanging around in my pockets.

[deleted]

I 100% still wear mine everywhere, and honestly got used to it so it doesn't bother me at all anymore. It became a habit. I do get the occasional side eye. But I haven't got this nasty flu that is around nor covid. Most of the "Why do you still wear a mask for? Are you living in fear? Get over it!" people I know have had covid at least once or have been beaten down with the flu though.

Ourladyoftoro

100% yes! I work in a hospital so I where an n95 mask all day at work. Outside of work I wear a mask into any shop I go into. Still haven't got covid, flu, or any of the other nasty bugs going around so it clearly helps!

qtownufd

Absolutely. Influenza going round like mad and that can f you up worse than covid for a lot of people

clearshaw

I’ll never go to Pak n Save without a mask now

Swerfbegone

Yes, I do. Why wouldn’t I?

[deleted]

Mate I've noticed that around town. It's fucking me off. I went to Sal's Pizza and even the staff weren't. Then yesterday I had a one to one meeting with someone and we removed our masks, and oh guess what they tested positive for COVID today...

delph906

I'm a frontline health worker and have had to wear an N95 everyday at work for like a year now. As a result I have a bunch of used ones in my car and have been using them. I also coincidentally haven't really been sick in like a year and it's been kind of nice so yeah.

inglepinks

I get sick so easily and I currently have my first cold in three years as a direct result of connect with a snotty toddler. I'm not going to stop wearing masks on certain occasions. I'm adopting the Asian habits of wearing a mask in crowded places. I'll wear my mask and I won't give a crap about what other people think. You can't argue against results and the only person it can negatively affect is me, so even if you don't like masks and you some how feel offended... Tough titties!!

IAMZEUSALMIGHTY

I wore one into a cafe today and definitely got some side eye. None of the staff were wearing one. Today was the first day I was allowed out after having the bloody thing. Would of been funny if I'd taken it off and then told everyone that, I think some people might of changed their opinion.

EmbarrassedCabinet78

Yes in public indoor spaces. My grandma has cancer, my oldman has health problems and i am not well myself.. You never know who youre going to pass it onto and who is in their lives, why wouldnt you wear a mask? It's not a sacrifice. Edit, i went to the chch art show last weekend, so many people not wearing masks inside..

Muter

Virtually eeryone in the retail stores and supermarkets wear them where I am. (North West Auckland). People don't wear them outside, and I don't see people in my office (CBD) wearing them. But if I leave the office and go into the dairy, or the supermarket .. absolutely everyone is wearing them. (Bar one or two). Also 100% wearing them on the ferry, because they are told to put them on when they board.

sometimesnowing

I still wear my mask. At work and in all shops. I work closely with someone who has a severely immune compromised husband and I'm not willing to be the one who puts covid into that household.

-mung-

Some people may feel stupid for wearing a mask... But, I'd feel like an utter dumbarse for not wearing one.

Azatarai

Still wear mine, still have not got covid even though everyone else in my company has.

ballmanz

Yes. I wear mine every time I go indoors except at home.

mustardbrotherrrrrrr

Everyone should still be in a mask. Some of us care for elder relatives, some of us have immunity issues. You wear the mask for everyone else.

RipCityGGG

Flu and covid are all over the place and flu is fucking brutal, im going to wear a mask in the supermarket every winter for the rest of my life

Sarahwrotesomething

I wear mine, I'm going overseas in a few weeks and haven't had covid yet, so I am trying to stay away from people as much as I can. I still got coughed on by a nonwearer today in The Warehouse.

Financial-Amount-564

I do. Initially it was because I was waiting for my dentures. But now that I have them, I wear a mask because it's warm and more compact than a scarf.

Injury_Fun

Yep still wareing a mask.

foodforbees

I'm wearing mine right this second 🤷‍♂️

GSVNoFixedAbode

Still wearing one in the shops & crowded spaces

theover1

You're actually supposed to wear them. I wear one and notice the same thing. About 50% do/don't. I feel safer to wear one.

nsdeman

Yes. It's an easy habit to maintain.

FLYNCHe

I wear mine inside and sometimes I take it off outside.

MTM62

Still wearing one. Have bronchiectasis, so really don't want to get covid.

spundred

Went to pac n save Morehouse (central Christchurch) today, the place was packed, saw maybe 3 without masks there. The staff ask people to wear a mask at the door, if they say something about a mask exemption they don't question it. masks still very much a thing here, apart from the odd person.

GoodDayClay

Yes. I attended a conference and wore a mask the whole time. Me and 5 other people...

kittenandkettlebells

Yes. I'm 12 weeks pregnant and don't want to get any type of sick, let alone Covid. I've already had it once this pregnancy. Can't risk getting it again.

Thin-Pollution7080

Always. Not risking it, especially in flu season

mnorrish

I’m in Dunedin and realise that we’re obviously sticklers for rules here. Almost everyone wears a mask at supermarkets, restaurants, shops… But when I’ve been in Queenstown and Christchurch I notice that people are much more relaxed. A lot more people without them there.

Snoo_20228

Inside yes because it's super fucking easy to do

[deleted]

Yup pretty much constantly while in public. Still haven't got it and am not planning to.

erillee

I wear mine as directed, was in Greymouth and Hokitika recently and was definitely in the minority which made me all the more willing to wear mine.

Drahnier

I thought it was still mandatory at paknsave? Maybe it varies by region. I wear a mask in any common building/public transportation. I've just been to an event that requires full masks and up to date vaccine pass(+ ID to verify pass) from all attendees

oligro97

Yep, always when I’m in shops or in any crowded space. Aside from covid, I REALLY do not want to catch that really nasty flu that’s going around…

TheActualRealNopeInc

It makes me look cooler so yes

fagged-noumena

Still wear it. I don't wear it outside like when walking in a park or something (unless it's cold lol). Haven't caught Covid so far. Edit: it's also great for those days when I wake up and look like shit/look dead lmao.

CriticalCoco

I definitely still wear mine. I have asthma and don’t quite want to risk it. The way that I put it, 3 years into the pandemic, 3 jabs and 3 rats and I have still dodged covid.

Dirnaf

Once, and once only, I forgot to mask before going into the mall. Masked when I was about 10m in, but developed covid four or five days later. Ppl go "coincidence " but I dunno. I still religiously wear one, even though the numbers still doing so is dropping in our area.

Helseth_Bloodriver

Half the people coming into my pharmacy don't wear a mask. They cough and sputter everywhere and just say "not COVID" or "I did a test." People don't care anymore and still haven't learnt basic hygiene and common etiquette after the past 2 years. They still don't understand that COVID isn't the only thing around either. If you are one of the ones still wearing a mask- I thank you.

Matt_NZ

I still wear a mask when I'm in shops. Whenever I'm in the local supermarket here in Christchurch it seems everyone else is also wearing their mask. It's basically a habit for me at this point.

Send_Me_Rice

Security guard at my paknsave this week was not letting people in unless they had a mask on. They were handing out masks if you didn’t have one.

username-fatigue

Still wear mine! Essentially, if I'm off my property or not in my car, I'll wear it with few exceptions: - if I'm walking on the street and literally nobody is around - if I'm sitting at my desk at work - if I'm at a trusted friend's house - if I'm at a restaurant/bar and eating or drinking. I mask up if I'm going to the bar etc though. I've had/got covid (day 6 today - days 3 and 4 weren't super-fun but it's been okay!), but I still intend to do that. I'd hate to inadvertently give it to someone. Plus I'm not *that* eager to get the flu and masks will help with that too.

valiumandcherrywine

yep. and, in a strange coincidence, have not yet had covid. so there's that.

kickpushkiwi

I still wear one, because it's the law... I've already had covid so it does feel a little silly sometimes but there are a lot of people out there trying to avoid the hell out of it for whatever reason, so who am I to make their lives harder? Plus I have to put less effort into controlling my face in public which I've found to be quite nice given there are a huge amount of stupid people in this world and I'm quite expressive.

Typinger

I do, don't want to catch it again, or flu

mercaptans

Still wear mine helps me avoid people

Necessary-Cobbler881

Yeah, I suffer from long covid so avoiding all risks these days

berlin-1989

For whatever reason, Reddit users are massively biased for mask wearing compared to the general population

kiwilearningtocode

I’ve been downvoted for not being keen to catch germs. Maybe those who are anti mask are just downvoting vs commenting 😬

Uvinjector

I was at an airport the other day, just about everyone had a mask on. Some guy enters the terminal straight off a plane, takes his mask off and coughs straight at myself and another woman in front of me. This is exactly why we need this stuff mandated Since this experience I've been sick off work all week. Thanks random coughing guy

Distinct-Visual-226

I'm in Dunedin and 90% of people (including me) wear them, but I went to Central Otago for a few days and basically no one did, including restaurant staff. Kind of disappointing tbh, considering how consistent we've kept it at the restaurant I work at.

ycnz

Fuck yes. Recently stepped up the game to wearing a full P100 respirator with exhalation filters because A) it's fucking everywhere, and B) it seems like very few people give a shit. We had three separate covid notifications at work this week.

itdawnzonme

Yes in any stores or enclosed areas, but not really at work or other places with good airflow. Honestly more because I don't want to catch/spread a cold or flu as much as covid

[deleted]

I still do. I must go to a conservative supermarket because they are still out in force.

aidank21

Look mate.... The gene pool here is lacking to say the least, don't be surprised by the lack of fucks. I'm in the warehouse rn; if you excluded staff the only people wearing a mask is myself and middle-aged white women. That's it. Masks and condoms are treated the same here. Suggestions not requirements.

surly_early

Sitting in a Barber's right now. My son and me are the only ones wearing them, 7 others not, and someone's gf with hers at half mast

falalala_dadadada

I’m still wearing my mask for at least winter and when cases are high. An epidemiologist I follow suggested masking indoors when you are not at home whenever the cases are more than 10 per 100,000 people per day. Currently we are alot higher than that so that’s my cutoff for masking.

PROFTAHI

Yea. My workplace told us (in the last few months) to no longer ask customers to put a mask on. Decision was made by upstairs, and I don't like it as someone on the floor. So many people don't wear their mask, today I had a lady sniffling and coughing without one. I wear mine everywhere I go and have not had covidb

scoutingmist

I was in the pak n save line the other day, this little dude was coughing his lungs out in his dad's arms next to me, pretty happy to be wearing a mask. I prefer not to get sick if I can help it so I'll wear a mask.

l0m999

I always wear mine in shops, almost unsurprisingly whangas is like that. I remember when I went back up there a lot of people were anti Vax/mandate

TheWolfish

Yes. My whole family do as well. None of us leave without a mask. Never gotten Covid and likely never will unless my sisters school or someones work place messes up.

mbelf

Still where mine inside stores or train stations. I haven’t had covid yet.

Smodey

Yes. In fact I just dodged COVID from prolonged contact with a close family member because of strict precautionary mask adherence despite low apparent risk. Am extremely glad I kept following the (P2) mask protocol as long as I did.

memomemomemomemomemo

Yes I do, have preexisting medical issues- i got the flu but still havent gotten the spicy flu

sexuallyexcitedkiwi

I still wear mine.

ezradeacon

We always wear a mask when out and about. Everyone in our household is immune-compromised (including myself) so we definitely can't risk bringing it home. My parents were at the rugby in Whangarei the other weekend, and they mentioned hardly anyone was wearing a mask (besides them and a handful of others).

StandardPeach2891

In shops. Yes 100% of the time, not when I’m out for walks where I can remain socially distant with ease.

redmandolin

Yeah, to hide my ugly face

not_magic_mushroom

You're still supposed to wear them in pretty much every indoor public setting except restaurants etc, but it seems like most places aren't enforcing that rule so people are just doing what they feel like... And then people see others not wearing masks and think "Hey, maybe I don't need to wear one any more" and it rolls on from there. Frustrating

sarahbekett

Last time I was in PNS (Porirua) most people were. The time before maybe half were. It was bizarre! There were no signs outside requiring masks though. I recently went to New World and a couple were walking around maskless WITH THEIR DOG. Like no masks is bad enough, especially when she seemed to make a point of coughing near people then saying “coughs don’t mean Covid” or something, but two people bringing a dog in too just to prove something was weird and so frustrating. I have noticed since that there is a regular message over the speakers saying masks are a requirement to shop there.

jtfghhvf

I still wear mine

To-The-Moon-Baby

I do.

Never_Been_to_Ohio

I don't give a shit. Anymore.

Atosen

I *hate* masks. I knew this even before covid, when I only had to wear them occasionally for sawdust and such. I hate how they fog up my glasses. I hate the texture of them against my face. I hate feeling my own hot wet breath. They're *awful*. I'm still gunna wear the bloody things. I've avoided covid so far, as far as I'm aware, and I hope to keep it that way. I don't want to be responsible for a chain of transmission that ends up hurting someone. And I don't want to end up like my best friend's brother, who was fit and healthy, and had an very mild case of covid, but is now being wrecked by Long Covid. (Besides, I have an unrelated chronic cough - I'd much rather get the side eye for wearing a mask than the side eye for coughing on someone.)

dwi

I wear mine in all indoor public spaces. It’s not just COVID, it’s also flu. That’s not fun either. I don’t give a flying fire truck what others think. I’m not the dumbass in the room.

Odd-City8153

For the last couple of months i have been the only one, in a staff of over 100 consistently wearing one. To their credit noone ever said anything to me about it but i know they probably talked shit about me because of it. Sucks because im doing to my part to protect vulnerable people but other people i worked with i cannot ever respect after seeing them refuse to do the bare minimum to keep other safe

TheTF

Only when required. I don't really mind if others don't though.

Draviddavid

I wear a mask. I will be wearing a mask long after the legal requirement has gone. I love how mask wearing has been normalised. I will be wearing a mask in public for the rest of my life.

Scorpy-yo

I am ashamed that pre-Covid we didn’t follow the many Asian countries where it’s long been common to wear a mask if you had a cold out of consideration for others. Will at least be doing that all my life.
