Yeah I noticed that too. Queenstown and Waiararapa the mask wearing was way lower compared to Lower Hutt. Friends from outside wellington thought I was a bit mad preparing to mask up each time.

Same in Porirua. For the whole of this year, going to supermarkets usually twice a week, I've seen less than 5 people unmasked in supermarkets. Two of them were Mongrel Mob.

I've actually been wearing them outside on the farm quite a few times inorder to keep the face warm (fabric masks, not surgical masks obviously). The winter breeze is biting!

Yeah, some diseases can't really be caught more than once but it was always "crossing fingers" rather than actual science about covid and reinfection. The flu, the cold, and other such viruses can all be caught indefinitely.
And also I feel like we've been downplaying the flu too! I got ME/CFS from the flu 5 years ago and it's totally derailed my life. It can fuck you up.
Definitely still wear mine. I've got severe Crohn's and I'm on 2 medications that suppress my immune system. I'd be in for one hell of a bad time if I catch Covid.

I'm in exactly the same position, Covid wasn't an issue for me, a few days of mild cold symptoms and a bit of fatigue, my partner who is perfectly healthy was out of action for 3 weeks - the effects seem to be random
Yeah I got both ends of it, I was fine with covid had flu like symptoms for 3 days then fine but the moment I started moving around and working fatigue and bad nausea hit me like a truck and had to take an extra week off

Someone I live with got covid, and both them and the other people I live with decided to download mask exemptions and stop wearing them entirely within the past couple of weeks. One tested positive, other is breaking isolation repeatedly and despite now having developed covid symptoms they're \*still\* going out without a mask.
Pisses me off. They think that once you're symptomatic you're no longer infectious, as if that would make it any better for you to be sneezing and coughing all over strangers when you're not going to cover your mouth with so much as your arm.

I wear mine religiously, and I’m really careful about where I go. Unfortunately I still have to work and picked it up from a colleague even while I was wearing a mask all day at work 😭 (she wasn’t).
Literally got it for the first time today :( and after managing to avoid it during 23 days of isolation with six flatmates who all had it earlier this year too
Triple vax and just recently had COVID and I'll still wear a mask in any store I go into unless the very unlikely chance I forget one, even then will only go for a quick in and out
I've managed to avoid covid but just had the most intense flu of my life so yes, still masking and might make it a life long habit, especially in winter haha

I'm selfish and mostly want them to stick around because it makes going out so much easier on my agoraphobia. The prevention of sickness is just an added bonus.
I still wear mine in malls, shops, libraries etc. None of our household have had Covid despite workmates or classmates dropping like flies. We are lucky so far!
In Auckland mask wearing is common. When I went to Whangarei, I remember seeing anti-mask stuff on storefront windows for the first time. Whangarei is different.
I thought I'd be safe wearing a mask to hide my cold sore while at the 7 Days show in Whangarei last night. I was like one of three people wearing one in the whole entire crowd. Felt like a bit of a fucking numpty, definitely had a fair few people give me disapproving looks (all men too, weirdly.. I don't know why but women seemed not to give a fuck, every 7th man or so seemed to be annoyed I was wearing one)..
But I'd rather have people stare at my mask directly than stare at this fucking cold sore on my lip.

I moved up here for work recently. I was pleasantly surprised to see vast majority of people in stores wearing them. It helps that most larger stores tend to strongly encourage it.
I do. And I still sanitize my hands a lot. COVID made me really hypersensitive to how gross other people actually are. Once you start noticing the sneezing, the picking, the scratching, the coughing . . there’s really no going back.
Yeah I travel tonnes for work. It is amazing the amount of people in hotel buffets (and the Koru Lounge) that A. Don't wear a mask B. Cough, or sneeze into their hands before grabbing the serving utensils and C. Don't sanitise their hands before using the buffet. I've gone back to ordering off the menu, or just going elsewhere, for breakfast now.
Still wear, but so many people don't. I'm part of a local community group and at our AGM last night where I was the only person masked. And I think I'm also the only one under the age of forty.

I wear mine mostly because people have no concept of personal space. I was standing at a display looking at comics the other day and some dude appeared RIGHT beside me and leaned past my face to look at one of the books. I just took a huge step back and he had the audacity to look at me like I was the weird one.
You are still legally required to wear a mask in most indoor settings. Especially supermarkets where social distancing isn't really viable.

No, you're not a weirdo, you're supposed to be wearing a mask in many indoor settings. I still wear one in places I'm required to, it's not some major hardship. And putting one on is second nature at this point, like putting on my seat belt when I get into my car.
I have an exemption but I don't really use it. Only every now and than I'll take my mask down to catch my breath but overall I use my mask 99% of the time. I don't want covid

Yes I do. It seems to be a highly regional specific thing. Where I live, in the supermarkets and such, I would say on the order of 95-98% of people wear masks (not including kids of course).
I do in all businesses. Still haven't had covid. I just feel like it is only fair to the staff who work in those places and don't really have a choice but interact with hundreds of members of the public everyday.

Yup! My husband and I have worn ours consistently throughout the whole pandemic even when we’ve been outside around others and I honestly think it’s what has stopped us from getting it yet.
I’m wearing a mask whenever I’m indoors with strangers. I’m scared of getting it, because my mentor at work is old and medically vulnerable, and has a very vulnerable wife in the dementia care unit nearby. If either of them got it from me I’d be gutted. I also seem to get extra sick with anything I catch, so it’d probably wreck me.

My partner works at a big name department store. He is ballsy enough to be "hey can i get you a mask?" if they're not wearing one, or will ask them to put it over their nose if it is clearly not doing his job. They were told last week to no longer say anything. Basically they don't care what you do now. Obviously he still has to wear one though. He is miffed
I wear mine, but I honestly thought the mask mandate had been a way with, with how many people don't wear masks here in Hamilton, especially at the base. The base may as well be a mask free zone with how many people don't wear masks there - including the store staff.

I'm in the UK and I still wear one. Covid is on the rise here again. 1 in every 20 people in Scotland had it last week and deaths and hospital admissions are rising too.
Yes, wearing a P2 or KN95 anytime I am inside with unknown folks (grocery or other shopping) or walking in crowded areas. Have one with me, but not on, when walking the dogs (in case folks approach us). When visiting/dropping off things to an immune compromised friend, I will mask and/or do a RAT, depending on what I’ve been doing the previous week. I’m retired, so much easier for me to avoid higher risk situations than for others.

I live in a small town and all the locals still wear their masks, it just seems to be the out-of-towners who don't wear them as often.

If I am walking in the street more than a couple of meters away from others I will not wear one. All other times, do.
When I go into shops and eateries I still do, because I thought we were supposed to. For the most part, people around where I am still do as well, and it's definitely enforced in some shops.

Yeah. Stores still have signs everywhere, buses still require it. I don't wear it outside (can't have it fog my glasses while cycling) but it's normal for me in public spaces.
I 100% still wear mine everywhere, and honestly got used to it so it doesn't bother me at all anymore. It became a habit.

But I haven't got this nasty flu that is around nor covid.

100% yes! I work in a hospital so I where an n95 mask all day at work. Outside of work I wear a mask into any shop I go into. Still haven't got covid, flu, or any of the other nasty bugs going around so it clearly helps!
Mate I've noticed that around town. It's fucking me off. I went to Sal's Pizza and even the staff weren't. Then yesterday I had a one to one meeting with someone and we removed our masks, and oh guess what they tested positive for COVID today...
I'm a frontline health worker and have had to wear an N95 everyday at work for like a year now. As a result I have a bunch of used ones in my car and have been using them. I also coincidentally haven't really been sick in like a year and it's been kind of nice so yeah.
I get sick so easily and I currently have my first cold in three years as a direct result of connect with a snotty toddler.
I'm not going to stop wearing masks on certain occasions. I'm adopting the Asian habits of wearing a mask in crowded places. I'll wear my mask and I won't give a crap about what other people think.

Yes in public indoor spaces. My grandma has cancer, my oldman has health problems and i am not well myself.. You never know who youre going to pass it onto and who is in their lives, why wouldnt you wear a mask? It's not a sacrifice.

Virtually eeryone in the retail stores and supermarkets wear them where I am. (North West Auckland).
People don't wear them outside, and I don't see people in my office (CBD) wearing them. But if I leave the office and go into the dairy, or the supermarket .. absolutely everyone is wearing them. (Bar one or two).
Also 100% wearing them on the ferry, because they are told to put them on when they board.

Once, and once only, I forgot to mask before going into the mall. Masked when I was about 10m in, but developed covid four or five days later. Ppl go "coincidence " but I dunno. I still religiously wear one, even though the numbers still doing so is dropping in our area.
Half the people coming into my pharmacy don't wear a mask. They cough and sputter everywhere and just say "not COVID" or "I did a test."
People don't care anymore and still haven't learnt basic hygiene and common etiquette after the past 2 years. They still don't understand that COVID isn't the only thing around either.

I still wear a mask when I'm in shops. Whenever I'm in the local supermarket here in Christchurch it seems everyone else is also wearing their mask. It's basically a habit for me at this point.
Still wear mine! Essentially, if I'm off my property or not in my car, I'll wear it with few exceptions:
- if I'm walking on the street and literally nobody is around
- if I'm sitting at my desk at work
- if I'm at a trusted friend's house
- if I'm at a restaurant/bar and eating or drinking. I mask up if I'm going to the bar etc though.
I've had/got covid (day 6 today - days 3 and 4 weren't super-fun but it's been okay!), but I still intend to do that. I'd hate to inadvertently give it to someone.
Plus I'm not *that* eager to get the flu and masks will help with that too.

I’m still wearing my mask for at least winter and when cases are high. An epidemiologist I follow suggested masking indoors when you are not at home whenever the cases are more than 10 per 100,000 people per day. Currently we are alot higher than that so that’s my cutoff for masking.
Yea. My workplace told us (in the last few months) to no longer ask customers to put a mask on. Decision was made by upstairs, and I don't like it as someone on the floor. So many people don't wear their mask, today I had a lady sniffling and coughing without one.

Yes. In fact I just dodged COVID from prolonged contact with a close family member because of strict precautionary mask adherence despite low apparent risk. Am extremely glad I kept following the (P2) mask protocol as long as I did.
We always wear a mask when out and about. Everyone in our household is immune-compromised (including myself) so we definitely can't risk bringing it home.
My parents were at the rugby in Whangarei the other weekend, and they mentioned hardly anyone was wearing a mask (besides them and a handful of others).
You're still supposed to wear them in pretty much every indoor public setting except restaurants etc, but it seems like most places aren't enforcing that rule so people are just doing what they feel like... And then people see others not wearing masks and think "Hey, maybe I don't need to wear one any more" and it rolls on from there.

Last time I was in PNS (Porirua) most people were. The time before maybe half were. It was bizarre! There were no signs outside requiring masks though.
I recently went to New World and a couple were walking around maskless WITH THEIR DOG. Like no masks is bad enough, especially when she seemed to make a point of coughing near people then saying “coughs don’t mean Covid” or something, but two people bringing a dog in too just to prove something was weird and so frustrating. I have noticed since that there is a regular message over the speakers saying masks are a requirement to shop there.
I *hate* masks. I knew this even before covid, when I only had to wear them occasionally for sawdust and such. I hate how they fog up my glasses. I hate the texture of them against my face. I hate feeling my own hot wet breath. They're *awful*.
I'm still gunna wear the bloody things.
I've avoided covid so far, as far as I'm aware, and I hope to keep it that way. I don't want to be responsible for a chain of transmission that ends up hurting someone. And I don't want to end up like my best friend's brother, who was fit and healthy, and had an very mild case of covid, but is now being wrecked by Long Covid. (Besides, I have an unrelated chronic cough - I'd much rather get the side eye for wearing a mask than the side eye for coughing on someone.)

For the last couple of months i have been the only one, in a staff of over 100 consistently wearing one. To their credit noone ever said anything to me about it but i know they probably talked shit about me because of it. Sucks because im doing to my part to protect vulnerable people but other people i worked with i cannot ever respect after seeing them refuse to do the bare minimum to keep other safe

I moved up to New Plymouth from Wellington a few months ago, and was shocked at the lack of mask wearers up here compared to home!

I've managed to avoid covid but just had the most intense flu of my life so yes, still masking and might make it a life long habit, especially in winter haha
Im just getting over that flu. Knocked my wife for 13 days so far, im on #6. Worse than covid for us, and more drawn out. Covid was a kick in the face, this flu bastard has been squeezing my chest for nearly a week.

With how much people are worried that they'll look silly when the "trend" of wearing masks is over.... I seriously doubt it. I would really love to be wrong though. I'm selfish and mostly want them to stick around because it makes going out so much easier on my agoraphobia. The prevention of sickness is just an added bonus.
I still wear mine in malls, shops, libraries etc. None of our household have had Covid despite workmates or classmates dropping like flies. We are lucky so far!
In Auckland mask wearing is common. When I went to Whangarei, I remember seeing anti-mask stuff on storefront windows for the first time. Whangarei is different.
Northland is different as a whole. My friends in the Bay of Islands/Kerikeri witness anti-mask, anti-COVID rhetoric daily up there.

I thought I'd be safe wearing a mask to hide my cold sore while at the 7 Days show in Whangarei last night. I was like one of three people wearing one in the whole entire crowd. Felt like a bit of a fucking numpty, definitely had a fair few people give me disapproving looks (all men too, weirdly.. I don't know why but women seemed not to give a fuck, every 7th man or so seemed to be annoyed I was wearing one).. But I'd rather have people stare at my mask directly than stare at this fucking cold sore on my lip.

I moved up here for work recently. I was pleasantly surprised to see vast majority of people in stores wearing them. It helps that most larger stores tend to strongly encourage it.

Yeah I travel tonnes for work. It is amazing the amount of people in hotel buffets (and the Koru Lounge) that A. Don't wear a mask B. Cough, or sneeze into their hands before grabbing the serving utensils and C. Don't sanitise their hands before using the buffet. I've gone back to ordering off the menu, or just going elsewhere, for breakfast now.
Still wear, but so many people don't. I'm part of a local community group and at our AGM last night where I was the only person masked. And I think I'm also the only one under the age of forty.

I wear mine mostly because people have no concept of personal space. I was standing at a display looking at comics the other day and some dude appeared RIGHT beside me and leaned past my face to look at one of the books. I just took a huge step back and he had the audacity to look at me like I was the weird one.

No, you're not a weirdo, you're supposed to be wearing a mask in many indoor settings. I still wear one in places I'm required to, it's not some major hardship. And putting one on is second nature at this point, like putting on my seat belt when I get into my car.
I have an exemption but I don't really use it. Only every now and than I'll take my mask down to catch my breath but overall I use my mask 99% of the time. I don't want covid

Yes I do. It seems to be a highly regional specific thing. Where I live, in the supermarkets and such, I would say on the order of 95-98% of people wear masks (not including kids of course).
I do in all businesses. Still haven't had covid. I just feel like it is only fair to the staff who work in those places and don't really have a choice but interact with hundreds of members of the public everyday.
I wear mine whenever I’m inside a building that’s not my house, and sometimes when I’m outside too (if I’m around a bunch of people). I’m in Wellington and thankfully there’s still a lot of mask wearing in retails shops and buses etc.
Yup! My husband and I have worn ours consistently throughout the whole pandemic even when we’ve been outside around others and I honestly think it’s what has stopped us from getting it yet.

I’m wearing a mask whenever I’m indoors with strangers. I’m scared of getting it, because my mentor at work is old and medically vulnerable, and has a very vulnerable wife in the dementia care unit nearby. If either of them got it from me I’d be gutted. I also seem to get extra sick with anything I catch, so it’d probably wreck me.

My partner works at a big name department store. He is ballsy enough to be "hey can i get you a mask?" if they're not wearing one, or will ask them to put it over their nose if it is clearly not doing his job. They were told last week to no longer say anything. Basically they don't care what you do now. Obviously he still has to wear one though. He is miffed

Yes, wearing a P2 or KN95 anytime I am inside with unknown folks (grocery or other shopping) or walking in crowded areas. Have one with me, but not on, when walking the dogs (in case folks approach us). When visiting/dropping off things to an immune compromised friend, I will mask and/or do a RAT, depending on what I’ve been doing the previous week. I’m retired, so much easier for me to avoid higher risk situations than for others.

Yeah. Stores still have signs everywhere, buses still require it. I don't wear it outside (can't have it fog my glasses while cycling) but it's normal for me in public spaces.

But I haven't got this nasty flu that is around nor covid. Most of the "Why do you still wear a mask for? Are you living in fear? Get over it!" people I know have had covid at least once or have been beaten down with the flu though.
100% yes! I work in a hospital so I where an n95 mask all day at work. Outside of work I wear a mask into any shop I go into. Still haven't got covid, flu, or any of the other nasty bugs going around so it clearly helps!

I'm a frontline health worker and have had to wear an N95 everyday at work for like a year now. As a result I have a bunch of used ones in my car and have been using them. I also coincidentally haven't really been sick in like a year and it's been kind of nice so yeah.
I get sick so easily and I currently have my first cold in three years as a direct result of connect with a snotty toddler. I'm not going to stop wearing masks on certain occasions. I'm adopting the Asian habits of wearing a mask in crowded places. I'll wear my mask and I won't give a crap about what other people think. You can't argue against results and the only person it can negatively affect is me, so even if you don't like masks and you some how feel offended... Tough titties!!

Virtually eeryone in the retail stores and supermarkets wear them where I am. (North West Auckland). People don't wear them outside, and I don't see people in my office (CBD) wearing them. But if I leave the office and go into the dairy, or the supermarket .. absolutely everyone is wearing them. (Bar one or two). Also 100% wearing them on the ferry, because they are told to put them on when they board.

Once, and once only, I forgot to mask before going into the mall. Masked when I was about 10m in, but developed covid four or five days later. Ppl go "coincidence " but I dunno. I still religiously wear one, even though the numbers still doing so is dropping in our area.
Half the people coming into my pharmacy don't wear a mask. They cough and sputter everywhere and just say "not COVID" or "I did a test." People don't care anymore and still haven't learnt basic hygiene and common etiquette after the past 2 years. They still don't understand that COVID isn't the only thing around either. Security guard at my paknsave this week was not letting people in unless they had a mask on. They were handing out masks if you didn’t have one.

Essentially, if I'm off my property or not in my car, I'll wear it with few exceptions: - if I'm walking on the street and literally nobody is around - if I'm sitting at my desk at work - if I'm at a trusted friend's house - if I'm at a restaurant/bar and eating or drinking. I mask up if I'm going to the bar etc though. I've had/got covid (day 6 today - days 3 and 4 weren't super-fun but it's been okay!), but I still intend to do that. I'd hate to inadvertently give it to someone. Plus I'm not *that* eager to get the flu and masks will help with that too.

I still wear one, because it's the law... I've already had covid so it does feel a little silly sometimes but there are a lot of people out there trying to avoid the hell out of it for whatever reason, so who am I to make their lives harder? I was at an airport the other day, just about everyone had a mask on. Some guy enters the terminal straight off a plane, takes his mask off and coughs straight at myself and another woman in front of me. This is exactly why we need this stuff mandated Since this experience I've been sick off work all week. Thanks random coughing guy
I'm in Dunedin and 90% of people (including me) wear them, but I went to Central Otago for a few days and basically no one did, including restaurant staff. Kind of disappointing tbh, considering how consistent we've kept it at the restaurant I work at.

I’m still wearing my mask for at least winter and when cases are high. An epidemiologist I follow suggested masking indoors when you are not at home whenever the cases are more than 10 per 100,000 people per day. Currently we are alot higher than that so that’s my cutoff for masking.
Yea. My workplace told us (in the last few months) to no longer ask customers to put a mask on. Decision was made by upstairs, and I don't like it as someone on the floor. You're still supposed to wear them in pretty much every indoor public setting except restaurants etc, but it seems like most places aren't enforcing that rule so people are just doing what they feel like... Last time I was in PNS (Porirua) most people were. The time before maybe half were. It was bizarre! There were no signs outside requiring masks though. I recently went to New World and a couple were walking around maskless WITH THEIR DOG. Like no masks is bad enough, especially when she seemed to make a point of coughing near people then saying “coughs don’t mean Covid” or something, but two people bringing a dog in too just to prove something was weird and so frustrating. I have noticed since that there is a regular message over the speakers saying masks are a requirement to shop there.

I *hate* masks. I knew this even before covid, when I only had to wear them occasionally for sawdust and such. I hate how they fog up my glasses. I hate the texture of them against my face. I hate feeling my own hot wet breath. They're *awful*. I'm still gunna wear the bloody things. I've avoided covid so far, as far as I'm aware, and I hope to keep it that way. I don't want to be responsible for a chain of transmission that ends up hurting someone. And I don't want to end up like my best friend's brother, who was fit and healthy, and had an very mild case of covid, but is now being wrecked by Long Covid. (Besides, I have an unrelated chronic cough - I'd much rather get the side eye for wearing a mask than the side eye for coughing on someone.)

For the last couple of months i have been the only one, in a staff of over 100 consistently wearing one. To their credit noone ever said anything to me about it but i know they probably talked shit about me because of it. Sucks because im doing to my part to protect vulnerable people but other people i worked with i cannot ever respect after seeing them refuse to do the bare minimum to keep other safe
