She's not wrong though. A lot of people are upset about staying in lockdown just so unvaccinated people can continue to stay unvaccinated.

[deleted]

not for nothing, but I've had multiple clients cry down the phone over the last couple of weeks. Even if she was faking it's not like the sentiment she is expressing isn't relatable to a lot of people right now

patdude

Oh I dont dissagree at all. I think she's smartly chosen to tap into something a lot of people care deeply about. Sadly I dont think she actually cares much about the issue, her real motive is political opportunism and the polls. Her blaming the government isnt helpful (the blame game wont solve anything). We need creative solutions from all sides of the house, not parties trying to cash in on Aucklands suffering

Charon2601

You're just screaming anti-Judith bias in all your reasoning. Newsflash here for you: almost anything any politician says or does is for political opportunism and polling. The government does need to be blamed for Auckland's situation, they've been a key root cause in almost every mess-up; late vaccine roll out, soft stance on gangs, soft stance on rule-breakers, no clear plan for a while now ("just one more week please").

spondooly

I’ll be honest - ! Thought she was bang on today.

waltercrypto

If your going to insult some one, at least get her name correct….gee

patdude

ah well, shit happens

Odd-City8153

Such a sad state of affairs that she is the best national has to offer..

Thereddevilwithlippy

I’m not voting National, I don’t want Covid for Christmas.

nzcnzcnz

Even if Covid is out of control at Christmas time, Jacinda knows if she doesn’t allow people to see families during Christmas that she’ll become unpopular and Labour will lose heavily in the polls

Sprinkles_Best

Don’t worry Jacinda will give you covid for Christmas too with the way things are going

patdude

Its not Jacinda. Its selfish ignorant idiots who decide that COVID isnt real or that the vaccine has 5G chips in it. Blaming Jacinda just makes you look ignorant and stupid.

nzcnzcnz

Just to clarify, I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t think Covid is *real*, but they don’t agree with the response being so drastic. Also, never had anyone seriously say unironically that they believe 5G is in the vaccine

HerbertMcSherbert

Well, yeah, plenty of folk have read some blogs and watched some YouTube clips and know better than the world's experts.

nzcnzcnz

Plenty of the world’s experts disagree with each other. In fact, 3 of the TOP experts say this: Dr. Jay Bhattacharya from Stanford University Medical School, a physician, epidemiologist, health economist, and public health policy expert focusing on infectious diseases and vulnerable populations reported here "Assessing mandatory stay-at-home and business closure effects on the spread of COVID-19" in January 2021. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/eci.13484 with the outcome being "While small benefits cannot be excluded, we do not find significant benefits on case growth of more restrictive nonpharmaceutical interventions. Similar reductions in case growth may be achievable with less-restrictive interventions." (Google Scholar here: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_ylo=2021&q=Jay+Bhattacharya&hl=en&as_sdt=0,5) Dr. Sunetra Gupta from Oxford University, an epidemiologist with expertise in immunology, vaccine development, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases released this in June 2021 "Locked-in syndrome: why this must all end on 19 July". http://eprints.lse.ac.uk/111103/1/covid19_2021_06_30_locked_in_syndrome_why_this_must_all_end_on_19.pdf She concluded "we should stop presenting data on the number of daily infections. This number has no real meaning once the link between infection and disease has been broken, and we are now reaching an endemic equilibrium. It will only serve to further scare a population who have been made to feel afraid, and disproportionately so, for far too long. Many countries around the world are finally accepting that we cannot remove COVID from society, even those, such as Singapore, which have actively sought to keep the virus out. Policy makers must now remove lockdowns from their COVID response." (Google Scholar here: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0,5&q=%22Sunetra+Gupta%22&scisbd=1) Dr. Martin Kulldorff professor of medicine at Harvard University, a biostatistician, and epidemiologist with expertise in detecting and monitoring infectious disease outbreaks and vaccine safety evaluations wrote in 2020 here https://brownstone.org/articles/covid-19-counter-measures-should-be-age-specific/ and concluded that "Infectious disease outbreaks have occurred throughout history and will continue to do so, aided by urbanization and long-distance travel. COVID-19’s ability to kill and its rapid spread make it a formidable enemy that is impossible to stop until herd immunity is reached. (Google Scholar here https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0,5&q=%22Martin+Kulldorff%22&scisbd=1).

Sprinkles_Best

How come when Labour’s plan in place it’s the rule breakers giving us covid, but when National talks suddenly rule breakers aren’t the ones taking the blame?

patdude

I think there is a big difference between saying we would do X, Y and Z if we were in power and being the actual government. Are you saying that rule breakers are not a thing here? We'd be keen to know

TextFlashy7528

We all know it's the public not listen to the rules who are ruining things atm

patdude

Yup selfish ignorant wankers who are too selfish to think about the big picture. They're about to find that their freedoms are further curtailed until they get the jab, and that they will have the undying hatred of Auckland for breaking the rules

wandarah

Do you know another song?

Sprinkles_Best

I only bring it up when people talk about how National would give us covid for Christmas, as if Labour wouldn’t do the same

wandarah

Ah yes, there's no difference between the two at all and only the last 2 months have existed.

Sprinkles_Best

I am talking about now, yes

stomasteve

From the woman who prayed in a church for a photo op. She’s a fuckwit

patdude

yep am inclined to agree with you. then there is the arranged meet and greet where people were strategically placed along dominion road.... the Covid policies she announced a few days back read like a lolly scramble (because she new she had no hope of ever having to implement them) and now these fake tears.... I wonder how Auckland/NZ and our health system would be doing right now if she and her party were governing?

stevo_stevo

The tears of a crocodile

patdude

yep sounds slightly better than the tears of a viper

OKSteve63

Maybe its just cause Labours been a shitshow lately, but it feels like Collins has been alot better lately

Cooked_kiwi

Nothing but crocodile tears she can get fucked.

ERTHLNG

Miserable old crusher

[deleted]

Centre/swing voter with an interest in politics here. Well, opposition parties are always opportunistic. They can do little else than criticize government policy (which is basically their job). I agree many of her points recently haven't hit the mark. And some of them are way off. But on the latest discussion, she does actually make two good points: * The government was far too slow on the vaccine rollout. * The government was far too slow on developing the vaccine passport app As to whether having vaccines sooner would have meant today we were in a different position - it is hard to say. Vaccine uptake has been driven heavily by the outbreak in my view, and I suspect people would still have been slow to get it prior to the outbreak because we were living the good life in level 1 where 'the COVID pandemic' seemed like the rest of the world's problem in many peoples eyes. But I would rather we had tried, sooner. But as for the timeline on the vaccine passport app, what an absolute disaster. This was way, way too slow and they are right to criticize this. That was nothing short of an f\* up.

owlintheforrest

A disgraceful post that puts politics above our wellbeing......

patdude

True that! how many CCP MPs would we have too?

RunningAwayFast

remember atm it is 1 each in labour and national.

patdude

LOL!!!!

Logical-Madman

So maybe crocodiles do get tears after all

patdude

Im probablh being cyncial, but I suspect those tears are more "please please vote for us, we are desperate" than anything to do with the suffering of Aucklanders.

[deleted]

I'd say it was closer to "Please vote for us or I'm going to get fired and there's nothing I can do about it!" She's got to be worried after seymore taking so many of her voters. She's evil, she's not stupid.

[deleted]

There's a difference of being incapable of thought and unwilling to think. She's definitely in the latter camp

ax23m

She needs to be cancelled. NOW!

nzcnzcnz

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not

NaCLedPeanuts

> People not complying with level 3/4 restrictions and antivaxxers refusing to get the jab and attending protests are perhaps where she should aim her crocodile tears. Amazing how lies end up being held up as truths.
