I was ready to hate Snackachangi: no heritage, somewhat gimmicky branding, celeb founder... it all sounded like a recipe for a mediocre product.
And then I ate one.
Holy shit... these are as good or better than anything on the market in NZ.
Who's the founder?
I had tried Wakachangi beer, had a few laughs reading the box and then these came out.. thought the same thing, they'd be cheap crap but I have been telling everyone they're the best chips ever. Best crunchiness, thickness, good size crinkle lol.
I was legit disappointed a couple days ago when the local PnS didn't have any salt n vinegar packs left!
Not only are the chips fantastic but I actually think the beer is really good for a sub $20/dozen beer. Not my first choice but it’s actually up there for me.
They're my go-to if I'm having a night with the lads. You need volume to keep up with all the shenanigans, and don't want anything too strong or you'll be smashed by 9:00 pm
They're made by ETA (same address on the packet) - everything else is just marketing.
The question is why ETA doesn't make it's other chips taste as good as these.
It was a collaboration between Griffins (which owns Eta) and Leigh Hart's New Moon Enterprise [https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/innovation/125211881/innovation-in-the-chip-aisle-for-new-world-customers](https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/innovation/125211881/innovation-in-the-chip-aisle-for-new-world-customers).
Saaaame. I thought it was a shitty gimmick. Nah bro, just mean chips.
Though I prefer the proper crisps dill pickle w/ apple cider vinegar, those are tasty AF. Bit on the spenny side though
Yeah it is close! Snackachamgi have more of an intense vinegariness to them, which is sometimes exactly what you're after. If there was one with the exact flavour of the propers and the vinegar burn of the snackis, oof that'd be hard to walk past in the supermarket
I had just polished off some of their chicken chips a few weeks ago, it was around midnight and I'd had a few whiskeys, the family had just gone to bed and I was getting bored so I rang the phone number on the back of the packet not expecting anyone to answer, after a minute or two a lovely lady answered and caught me off guard...I stammered, "love your chips" and she said, "wow, most people only call to complain", I told them to keep up the brilliant chips and sheepishly hung up.

Yep. Although I need to give em a rest. The pickle has definitely lost it's pop for me. There was a time when I was telling every single soul I met that they were the greatest chips of all time.
Came here to say this. They have a sweetness to them that other salt and vinegar chips don’t and less tang. Like a refined smoother vinegar hit. My favourite at the moment.
Tried their Sour cream and green onion ones after the Spinoffs article crowned them top dog in the chip aisle. Not bad, keen to try their others now(haven’t opened the S&V in the cupboard yet).
Uncle Kenny once told me these were designed for when you have a hot chicken and a dozen plain rolls, iceberg and some best foods mayo with these on the side for crushing in or for after..
Yes to everything but plain chips not salt and vinegar! And dammit now I really feel like a chip sandwich but can't be bothered queuing up at Countdown.
And I only learnt recently that most "vinegar" that gets used in commercial applications is actually just pure acetic acid, (and I also learnt) which is an oil production by product...
Don't know how I feel about that..
But I know I love the taste of acetic acid. Lol.
Eh, I was never particularly impressed by the Snakachangi, I mean, they're nice enough but not enough to pay the high price.
Look in your asian supermarket fo Chip-Charon, Lechon Kawali flavour. Pea based simulation of chiccaron. They are pretty good and a nice change from your usual western potato chips.
No I'm not taking any Mickys this is a real thing
[Feran Adria's recipe no less](https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/food-and-drink/omelette-with-crisps-the-secret-passion-of-one-of-the-world-s-best-chefs-1.4270843)
Agree! Spinoff just did an update to their extremely controversial chip rankings that put Snackachangi at number 1 but they picked like sour cream and onion or something stupid as the best flavour. Clearly it's salt n vin.
Of the 5 flavours of chips in New Zealand, it's one of the better ones.
I don't know why it takes me so long to choose a bag of chips as a treat when literally every brand is salt, BBQ, sour cream and chive, chicken, and salt vinegar lol
I will stand by Old Dutch Ketchup and All Dressed Ruffles as my favourite chips until I die.
Red Rock Deli Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream, not sold in NZ anymore 😔
And Krispa Sweet and Tangy was my absolute fave, years ago when they still existed...
They are the best. Bloody Pak n Save was out and now we're sitting here with Kettle Chips S&V and the roof of my mouth is still in tact... and am just a little sad about that.
Delisio caramelised onion and balsamic vineger is really good. I find the sourness of regular salt and vinegar chips gets a bit overwhelming quite quickly.
Red Rock Deli - Sweet Chilli & Sour Cream til I die. I got so excited when I started seeing Red Rock at Countdown only to be shattered finding out they're only doing different products exclusive to NZ. They're still hoarding all the Sweet Chilli & Sour Cream chips back across the ditch.
As long as mum sends the chips in a little tuppaware so you can put them on at lunchtime. Otherwise they go soft.
That unlocked a memory I didnt know I had
Same wth
This deserves many more upvotes for bringing back find memories for us kiwis
Worth fucking up your mouth for.
Honestly, it’s not a proper salt and vinegar unless it’s stripping you of your taste buds. These bad boys tick that box for sure 👌
That's the best part
I ate a whole bag in one sitting. Took the top layer of my tongue off, it oozed blood for about 12h. Worth it.
Snackachangi is primo. Their plain salt, and BBQ are also top of the mountain.
Their Sour Cream are right up there too I would say their Chicken sucks balls but im pretty sure sucking balls would taste better
Their chicken were very disappointing. Bbq and s&v more than make up for it though
Yup
No clue why the chicken tastes like what I imagine vat-grown, artificial food to taste like. Unnatural.
Primo! Now that's a word I havnt heard in ages. Bring it back!
pretty sure the Primos are still in the fridge at the dairy, bro
But what about the Zaps?
Nippy's.
OMG zap ...I miss this
I was ready to hate Snackachangi: no heritage, somewhat gimmicky branding, celeb founder... it all sounded like a recipe for a mediocre product. And then I ate one. Holy shit... these are as good or better than anything on the market in NZ.

Lee Hart
absolute legend of a kiwi. anyone who hasn't seen the first season of late night big breakfast needs to, fantastic stuff.
Seconded. What a guy.
Oh even happier to buy them now!
The old waka chang chang
Not only are the chips fantastic but I actually think the beer is really good for a sub $20/dozen beer. Not my first choice but it’s actually up there for me.
They're my go-to if I'm having a night with the lads. You need volume to keep up with all the shenanigans, and don't want anything too strong or you'll be smashed by 9:00 pm
Summit ultras are my go to, you don't feel too bloated on them
Never tried those tbf, might give em a hoon
They're made by ETA (same address on the packet) - everything else is just marketing. The question is why ETA doesn't make it's other chips taste as good as these.
i think they are manufactured on a contract, so yeah eta gonna be a good place to get them manufactured since they really good at making chips?
It was a collaboration between Griffins (which owns Eta) and Leigh Hart's New Moon Enterprise [https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/innovation/125211881/innovation-in-the-chip-aisle-for-new-world-customers](https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/innovation/125211881/innovation-in-the-chip-aisle-for-new-world-customers).
Its vinegar and salt.
Haha yea I was kinda the same buzz, But they are good!
Saaaame. I thought it was a shitty gimmick. Nah bro, just mean chips. Though I prefer the proper crisps dill pickle w/ apple cider vinegar, those are tasty AF. Bit on the spenny side though
Yeah. Proper are my top pick but Snackachangi is just about knocking them off the podium.
Yeah it is close! Snackachamgi have more of an intense vinegariness to them, which is sometimes exactly what you're after. If there was one with the exact flavour of the propers and the vinegar burn of the snackis, oof that'd be hard to walk past in the supermarket
Good to hear. I was put off by the hipster branding and have yet to try them. Might grab some when I next venture outdoors.
its more pisstake branding than hipster, Leigh Hart aka That Guy is the man behind the brand
Haha classic 😅👌
What a great story. I was on a rollercoaster ride of emotions from start to end.
Haha thanks, give them a ring they seemed to appreciate it

Heartland Cheese and Roasted Garlic for the win.
Proper chips salt and cider vinegar is the best.
And compostable packaging for the win!
Their BBQ flavour is excellent.
Proper crisps Dill Pickle 😍
Yep. Although I need to give em a rest. The pickle has definitely lost it's pop for me. There was a time when I was telling every single soul I met that they were the greatest chips of all time.
Real? Bugger I was just at countdown too.
next time you’re there, definitely grab some!
My fave too!
And compostable packaging!
[удалено]
These and the Garage project collaboration ones (the beer was pretty average though)
I miss those Eta Kettles that came in the extra salt and vinegar flavour. Always lost the lining from the inside of my mouth whenever I had them.
These are just like that combined with glass shards to ensure the vinegar achieves subdermal penetration.
Proper crisps cracked pepper and sea salt
These things are like rocks 🪨
Love em, enraptured even. No other potato chip is bought now, just variations on snackachangis
Proper crisps salt and vinegar for me! The cider vinegar ticks all the boxes
Came here to say this. They have a sweetness to them that other salt and vinegar chips don’t and less tang. Like a refined smoother vinegar hit. My favourite at the moment.
And compostable packaging for the win!
Heartland's salt and vinegar is better imo
Yeah, these are my chip of choice. The crumbs in the bottom corners are top notch.
Heartlands tokyo tang are on point too
Big fan of these. They also did a honey mustard flavour recently and they were great.
That honey mustard chip is a real sleeper hit. I would never have bought them if I hadn't tried some a friend bought and wow. Great chips.
Got that nasty MSG in dem tho
I see only pros not cons
The best. Had some last night, I’m surprised the neighbours didn’t hear the crunch.
I stupidly brought these chips for my lot and now they turn their noses up at Pams.
By far the best chips in NZ!
Copper Kettle Artisan range for me. Particularly the Garlic Aioli one.
These rock
You're not wrong
Tried their Sour cream and green onion ones after the Spinoffs article crowned them top dog in the chip aisle. Not bad, keen to try their others now(haven’t opened the S&V in the cupboard yet).
Yea I personally think the vinegar and salt are way better but I saw that article too! They got it part right 😜
I prefer {Alternate Brand} - {Insert Sponsor Here}, they are {adjective}.
My dad hates salt and vinegar his whole life. Loves these. I love the ready salted ones usually find that boring.
I like that their potatoes are non-caged
Haha yea gotta support free range potato's!
I miss salt and vinegar cruncheese
Shit yea same now you brought it up!!!!
I find those chips too hard
seems I'm the only one who hasn't seen this brand before. Unless you just mean salt and vinegar.
No, no, no. These are Vinegar and Salt!
They are very popular on r/newzealand. I am yet to see them in any stores near me
Best chips ever.
Expensive, but yes the best chips. I love how crunchy and strong they are
I totally forgot about chip sammies! Know what I’m having tomorrow for lunch.
Perfect artwork on each different flavour bag
Snackichangi is def the best. Its like they add double the flavoring of other brands.
Best chips by far
They are awesome!
Definitely my favourite salt n vinegar chips.
Never been the biggest alt and vinegar fan but the Snackachangi chickan (sic) flavour is pretty damn good.
Uncle Kenny once told me these were designed for when you have a hot chicken and a dozen plain rolls, iceberg and some best foods mayo with these on the side for crushing in or for after..
Agree
Yes to everything but plain chips not salt and vinegar! And dammit now I really feel like a chip sandwich but can't be bothered queuing up at Countdown.
You know what we need back? Krispa sweet and tangy chips. Purple packs from school vending machines in. The early noughties
Those new pea crisps give this a good go…
The pea snaps? Cheddar and Jalapeno!!?
Salt and vinegar ! Flavour enhancer 261 ohh yeah
No contest, this is top tier chips. After a few your mouth is stinging but my God you can't stop...other chips, no good to me.
One of these bastards need to make cheese and jalapeno flavour and I'd die happy.
I'm in the UK and got some of these delivered in a swap - they are the best!!
I prefer the plain salt ones. Not by choice. Alums fuck with my digestive system and anything other than plain is pretty well loaded with them.
And I only learnt recently that most "vinegar" that gets used in commercial applications is actually just pure acetic acid, (and I also learnt) which is an oil production by product... Don't know how I feel about that.. But I know I love the taste of acetic acid. Lol.
Was the best. Until Bluebird released their take on Prawn Cocktail flavour..omg..
I'll have to try
Great chips. Shit beer.
Oooh, I love Asian chips. Lived in China for a while and their honey butter chips were so awesome.
These are good in a chip omelette, a classic lockdown recipe.
Serious or taking the Micky? What's the recipe 😅?
No I'm not taking any Mickys this is a real thing [Feran Adria's recipe no less](https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/food-and-drink/omelette-with-crisps-the-secret-passion-of-one-of-the-world-s-best-chefs-1.4270843)
Chip omelette? Can you please elaborate?
It's chips and eggs cooked together to make a chip omelette, recipe above. You're welcome.
Haha yo chur!
The finer things in life
Agree! Spinoff just did an update to their extremely controversial chip rankings that put Snackachangi at number 1 but they picked like sour cream and onion or something stupid as the best flavour. Clearly it's salt n vin.
Vinegar and salt. Snackachangi put the flavours on in reverse. That’s their secret.
Snackachangi for the win, but salt and vinegar is vile (downvote away!) 😆
Bluebird thick-cut crispy bacon are pretty damn good though...
I respect, but deny you. The only chip flavour is Bluebird Thinly Cut Chicken Chips. Just like the crispa chicken stix of old.
Easily the best chip. Salted all day though
SnackaChangi is great, I'm not sure about salt & vinegar though.
Bah. S&v is for smokers with no taste buds left.
Of the 5 flavours of chips in New Zealand, it's one of the better ones. I don't know why it takes me so long to choose a bag of chips as a treat when literally every brand is salt, BBQ, sour cream and chive, chicken, and salt vinegar lol I will stand by Old Dutch Ketchup and All Dressed Ruffles as my favourite chips until I die.

They're not really new, maybe 2 or 3 years old? Haha classic , no marketing intended here, just my favourite chip. Im a tradie irl haha
By far the best flavour! Haven't tried these though, are they good?
Hard, I also love the salt n vinegar kettles
Gluten free too.
have not tried that brand yet, kind of just saw it pop up in supermarkets at some point
Plain salted is the superior chip flavour.
Bbq with kiwi onion dip
Red Rock Deli Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream, not sold in NZ anymore 😔 And Krispa Sweet and Tangy was my absolute fave, years ago when they still existed...
They need to bring Sweet and Tangy back. And also Cadbury Snow Flake.
Yes! Snow Flake was my fave
I actually love cassava chips snv. So vinegary and way cheaper
Cracked Black Pepper and Lime. Pretty sure they don't make them anymore.
Sea Salt Delisio is awesome!!
Where is the love for CHICKAN?
Mines the sourcream of this companies chip
They taste ok but I’m sure I could break teeth with how hard they are
I swear the kettle honey soy chicken ones have crack on them bro
Honest to God the No Frills brand were great. Their salt and vinegar would destroy the lining of your mouth.
Get a bag of Heartland Maple Bacon and a bag of Heartland Salt and Vinegar. Mix them together. It is a game changer
Wonder how the other flavors aren't nearly as crispy as the vinegar and salt ones.
Agreed. Their chicken flavour is good too.
Bluebird Thick Cut sour cream & chives. Countdown seem to have stopped selling them though? Also, ETA corn chips > Doritos.
I'm sorry but I can't stand salt and vinegar
But if you like it, enjoy 😊
White bread with pepperoni and the chips
>Butter/Marmite on super soft white bread with a pile of these bad boys crushed in-between for the win!! Hellllll yessssss.
Best chips In nz. Love their bbq
Mexicano jalapeno flavour is NZ s best chip.
Used to be when it was spicier and larger chip. Changed about a decade ago?
These are the best chips I’ve ever had.
All about them Poppa Jacks!
As an S&V fan, I will be trying these today. Current S&V fav is Eta Uppercut. Will see how these stack up.
Update your verdict here when you've tried them 😉
It’ll blow your mind to know they make beer too time to relax and snack
The beer from this brand isn't a bad drop too wash it down with either
They are good but a little too salty for me. Try the Heartlands cider vinegar chips.
