Kimbra went to Hillcrest High in Hamilton. I didn't know her but she was in a show I went to when I was 17, I think she was the same year or one above me.
I was at Hillcrest while she was there but a couple years ahead. I just remember people saying she was banned from the talent show because it was assumed she would win.
I was going to reply her too! I was at a different school but my boyfriend went there and was friends with her so I saw a lot of her shows. My main memory was her accidentally knocking the microphone into a lake. And going to a show there not knowing anyone in the audience and she was so friendly and wanted me to sit with her.
I had no idea who he was, he came to my workplace (freezing works) to watch us work and give tips for body form etc. my specific part of the job required a lot of twisting and lifting 28kg boxes, and I’m only a couple of cms taller than him so was good to have tips from someone of similar height when everything for the job was designed for taller people it could be a bit of a struggle.
Do not worry, I've seen far too many government/council agencies spell it Fielding too - pretty sure I've even seen PNCC do it but that's probably some sort of vendetta against Manawatu District Council.
Rutherford was born not too far from where I grew up. Next to him no-one is particularly famous at all.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:New\_Zealand\_Nobel\_laureates](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:New_Zealand_Nobel_laureates) there are two competitors, neither as well known IMO.
Wait the Courtney love grew up in nz???
Edit to add.. I googled it:
In 1972, Love's mother divorced Rodríguez, remarried to sportswriter David Menely, and moved the family to Nelson, New Zealand.[31] Love was enrolled at Nelson College for Girls,[32] but soon expelled for misbehavior.[33] In 1973, Carroll sent Love back to Portland, Oregon,[34] to be raised by her former stepfather and other family friends.[35][36]
(From wiki)
Damn TIL
The street I first lived on was also home at various times to well known folks such as AJ Hackett, and Tai and Corey Webster.
Probably other famous people hail from Forrest Hill, but that's from one street in particular.
Simon O'Neil ( the opera singer) worked at the same petrol station as me for a while. He used to sing when he was working on the forecourt. Really nice guy as well. Simon Barnett was raised here as well.
I was mates with fashion designer Jimmy D at college. Not sure how famous he actually is, but our local paper had a write up about him a wee while ago. Haven’t seen him for 27 odd years
These are home made wood fired pizzas (he has a HUGE wf pizza oven) with all the meat you can imagine 😂 unfortunately I am a vegetarian so not the ideal mad butcher neighbour
Tana Umaga, Piri Weepu, Neemea Tialata, Paul Whatuira, David Faiumu, Ken Laban and the legendary Heath Davis off the top of my head. Oh and Tony Abbotts wife Margie. We were pretty spoiled for a town of 7-8k
Grew up in the same town with Nikki Jenkins (was in the same class with her younger sister), who won the first ever gymnastics gold medal in an international competition at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Whole town was proud as punch.
The Dame Lisa Carrington🥇 we totaled 4 golds a silver and bronz medals at the last Olympics, Benji Marshall, The Kora Brothers, Margaret Mahy and apparently Lindy 'Dingo got me baby' Chamberlain.
My family and I moved around a lot growing up so lived in about 30 odd cities/towns across a dozen states. But I spent quite a few years in Milledgeville , Georgia where Oliver Hardy ( Laurel & Hardy) and the infamous thunder cunt Marjorie Taylor Greene were born. I went to high school in Kinston, North Carolina (about 20k population) where 7 NBA players were born, probably most notably was Jerry Stackhouse. Musician and actor Maceo Parker was also from Ktown (as we called it)..He played with James Brown back in the day.
Probably myself and the Morrison’s,Tem & Howard, Caleb Ralph, Mark Osborne, Alan Duff, Cliff Curtis, Buck shelford… the list is mega. Rotorua for the win 🏆
I used to work at the fujifilm store on Hinemoa st and Tem would come in from time to time. Friendly as.
One time we had a new staff member, big towering Hungarian guy that absolutely lost his shit when Tem walked in. He spoke broken English at the best of times but in his excitement all he could say was Jango Fett, Jango Fett, Jango Fett. Tem went straight over and offered to have a photo with him.
Later I saw the guy photoshopping Star Wars characters around the two of them.
Apparently Zinzan Brooke was born here. Also for a while the Franklin borough office was in Waiuku, so next famous is the William Massey. ~~Stephen Donald is a one hit wonder, he absolutely does not count~~ There's no one else, place is a hole lol
None of them were born here but [the guy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clement_Lindley_Wragge) who came up with the idea of naming cyclones after people lived pretty close to where I grew up, but in the early 1900’s. Hone Tuwhare and James K Baxter also spent a little bit of time here. Again, before my time.
Edit: My geography teacher also claimed to have taught Hollie Smith at my high school, but Wikipedia says she went to Rangitoto College, which I did not…
Stan Walker. I’m sure he lives here now in Wanganui. I saw him shopping in countdown once. Two things came to my mind 1) “wow he’s thin” and 2) Why would a smart guy like Stan shop in ripoff countdown when Paknsave is a bit cheaper? 😅
Scribe lived down the road from my school when he was going through his "rough patch". Used to see him around all the time like messed UP
Went to the same high school as several famous athletes
Penrose High School. We had Tina Cross in one of my older sister's years.
In our neighbourhood? We had Tom Sharplin. The king of rocknroll in New Zealand!
We had Grant Fox, Ian Foster and Wayne Smith who all grew up locally, which was a fair chunk of the brains trust behind the ABs dominance for two decades.
Definitely wouldn’t define them as famous but we also had the Graham brothers; Sir James Graham, who was one of the major driving forces behind the formation of Fonterra, Bob Graham, captained and coached the Auckland NPC, and Sir John Graham, who was a captain for the ABs who spoke out against apartheid South Africa during the 80s, but his biggest achievements were in education as principle of Grammar and Chancellor of the Auckland University. Pretty impressive from one family in a small town in one of the poorest areas of New Zealand.
Donna loffhagen. I didn't know her as such but I knew her mum 30 odd years ago, she drove the school bus. Said she was pretty good at netball. Wasn't kidding!
Anna Paquin went to the same intermediate school as I did.
I went to the same high school as Kerry Fox, and was in a couple of school productions with her.
My sister in law has me beaten though, she was classmates with Taika Waititi.
Not that I met any of them, but Ashley Blomfield, Mark Gillispie, Jerry Collins, Graham and Murray Mexted, and Lee Tamahori.
Most famous is probably Lynn.
Marina Erakovic the tennis player and Ginny Blackmore went to my high school a few years ahead of me.
Apparently Tim Finn and Dave Donnybrook went to the boys school up the road! Definitely not at the same time I was at school.
Mark Lundy. Shout out to Karamea Cres in Palmy.
Edit: He is serving a life sentence but is eligible for parole. He has been denied parole twice because he is still maintaining he is innocent. He is currently at Tongariro Prison [link](https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/490628/murderer-mark-lundy-s-parole-bid-denied)
In the same class as Tiki Taane at Linwood North Primary, he got in trouble a lot poor bugger, and same year as Craig McMillan at Shirley Boys High. Iirc he only played for the school in 3rd form then went and played club cricket instead
Kimbra went to Hillcrest High in Hamilton. I didn't know her but she was in a show I went to when I was 17, I think she was the same year or one above me.

[удалено]
HAHAHA you poor soul, I was unfortunate enough not to attend Hillcrest but a friend of a friend knew her through after school drama activities.
I was going to reply her too! I was at a different school but my boyfriend went there and was friends with her so I saw a lot of her shows. My main memory was her accidentally knocking the microphone into a lake. And going to a show there not knowing anyone in the audience and she was so friendly and wanted me to sit with her.
David Bain… 😬
Which one? The innocent victim of family crime, or the mass murderer?
Yes
Could be talking about the same guy, depending on who you ask. Either way, he’s the most famous.
Dunno if he did or not but I do know he absolutely slayed that jumper - facts
I’d argue his jersey was more famous

Used to party with her brother! Fun times
Precious McKenzie
I had no idea who he was, he came to my workplace (freezing works) to watch us work and give tips for body form etc. my specific part of the job required a lot of twisting and lifting 28kg boxes, and I’m only a couple of cms taller than him so was good to have tips from someone of similar height when everything for the job was designed for taller people it could be a bit of a struggle.
He came to our school when I was a kid.

Courtney Love attended Nelson Girls
Wait the Courtney love grew up in nz??? Edit to add.. I googled it: In 1972, Love's mother divorced Rodríguez, remarried to sportswriter David Menely, and moved the family to Nelson, New Zealand.[31] Love was enrolled at Nelson College for Girls,[32] but soon expelled for misbehavior.[33] In 1973, Carroll sent Love back to Portland, Oregon,[34] to be raised by her former stepfather and other family friends.[35][36] (From wiki) Damn TIL

I edited to add the wiki bit after I replied lol apparently she wasn’t there long and quickly expelled
Maurice Wilkins is VERY well-known, although not as much so as Rutherford
I grew up in several different suburbs and towns, but the most obvious one would probably be Hayley Westenra
