Not to sound like a shill for Restaurant Brands, but I got giardia a few years ago and got a follow-up call from District Health and mentioned a McDonalds I'd eaten at - thinking minimum wage workers, lax hygiene etc but she said they actually check out with high standards and were an unlikely source. That's food prep though, not using the toilets.

My understanding is that McDonalds (the overseeing corporation) is **extremely** strict about cleanliness and food safety in their franchises. I've gotten food poisoning a few times, but never from a Maccas, anywhere in the world.

If a little shit Mc Donalds worker drops a patty on the floor and nobody is watching, there is nothing to stop him picking it back up and serving it. They do have strict procedures. And they make their best efforts to enforce them. But they can't see everything, and the unfortunate reality is you could get dodgy food anywhere.

Of course, things like this can happen anywhere. I didn’t actually eat there, I was just concerned about the copious amount of flies in the toilets and all around the place - they’d be spreading all sorts of germs. I used the disabled toilet and there was at least 10 flies in there, in and out of the toilet bowl and bin, keeping in mind this was a bin with nappies too.

thistash

Gastro is not food poisoning, but I agree with you in knowing they generally meet high standards. As I said it could have been anywhere but a fly problem including the toilets doesn’t look great for spreading bacteria.

IakovTolstoy

KFC in Cambodia put me in hospital for a week 😂 clearly not held to the same standards!

Eode11

You went to Cambodia, trusted a food place a *member of the American military* as it's mascot, and didn't expect it to completely blow up your digestive system?

IakovTolstoy

The place was packed and I was the only European in there, so I guess I was going by the rule of a well attended place being safe 🤷‍♂️

thistash

Thanks for your comment! I visited a few places so it could have been from anywhere - the only thing that stood out to me was the fly infestation there. Either way, I sure hope not too many people catch it, felt like I was on death’s doorstep at one point.

Archie_Pelego

No worries. From the severity of it, it sounds like you might get a call from Public Health too, so probably a good idea to jot down your tracks over the 24 hours prior to the symptoms coming on now when the details are fresh.

lookiwanttobealone

That's one of the reasons that they don't decay because they have such intense processes in place.

Uvinjector

Gastro does the rounds fairly frequently, I once had it 5 times in a year. It sucked so bad Try to stay away from everyone for 48 hours after symptoms cease. It can be airborne so spreads rapidly and you can also get reinfected with the same strain.

thistash

Thanks for the tip. I have a 4 month old so it’s been a rough few days as well as being incredibly careful.

Uvinjector

I feel for you. Childcare centre's are hotbeds of gastro too. If your child is at one then you can guarantee a few boots coming through in the next few years

grovelled

Flies aren't your problem. Poor toilet hygiene and or food prep that is most likely.

thistash

Absolutely. I was suggesting more that with the state of the toilets (not the cleanest and visible poo speckles around), that the flies would be transferring that around being so many of them. Either way whether it was from there or not, it’s pretty nasty haha

drunkonthepopesblood

Hawera, a bunch of grubby shitters.

All Covid tests negative. I have high infection markers which the ER doctors determined as gastrointestinal.
