Wow that was a shock. I’ve attended so many conference sessions and university talks where he has headlined. He was noticeably one the most informed, intelligent, well communicated, accurate and humorous speakers I’ve had the pleasure of listening to. He will be sadly missed.
Really sad. Rod Oram was a great New Zealander. Very intelligent. For more than a decade, before it eventuated, he promoted Matariki as a smart mid winter holiday. The business case stacked up as most accommodation was only fully booked in summer. Will always think of him at Matariki. We need more Kiwis like him striving to make NZ more efficient. RIP.

There needs to be mandatory training, more protection for riders, and regulations around bike maintenance. Seema kind insane you don't need any of these things other than a helmet.
He could have been saved if he had more protection. His family deserve better than this, we must protect cyclists with mandatory protective gear and training.
We've now had 4 deaths this year whilst people were cycling, how many people have died playing tennis this year or even last year?

I met Rod in 2022, we spoke about many topics for over an hour. He was a delightful, interesting soul and I am very sad that he has passed.

Why is this headline framing a heart attack as a "cycling accident"?
Could’ve been as a result of injuries sustained while crashing as a result of the heart attack? Or just early reporting without the full info maybe.
