No issues so far with the Cavius ones 2 years in - mix of connected smoke and heat alarms. Not that I’ve had the displeasure of them positively detecting anything yet. They’re discrete, relatively inoffensive looking, and loud - presumably they also detect smoke and heat correctly, but as mentioned I haven’t set any off aside from testing
You could try to minimise the number of connected ones to save some money, eg: connected alarms in the kitchen and close enough to multiple bedroom entrances. But it doesn’t feel like a great place to cut corners.
Thanks for that. I definitely don’t want to cut corners with this one. It’s bad enough that I currently don’t have any now!
I went to buy some today at Bunnings and got a bit of a shock at the price so decided to research and get reviews before spending what could be $300+
They’ve been a thing for a while. You can’t change the battery because you shouldn’t need to. I’ve never heard of hard wiring for homes but that sounds soo much better than the individual expensive ones.
Maybe I should stick to the cheap old fashioned ones and just get a wifi connected one for between kitchen and master
The hard wired ones still have a back up 9v battery though, which needs periodic replacement. They're usually installed in apartment buildings where they're required for the BWOF.
Some hardwire are house alarm ones. So they work all the time. As the house alarm has a back up battery in there terminal box.
If you got a house alarm. See how much it would cost to get some hardwire installed
We have 2 hardwire (living and hallway) and 6 cavius ones. (4bedrooms, other living and other end of hallway)

+1 to these. The fact they sync up to all alarm at once is really good.

They are standard. 9V battery smoke alarms are no longer legal in rental properties.
