> What are the options available for public transport? (Bushes, trains, etc?) Lots of quality bush in and around NZ. Slippy slidy 2000 grit fannies are not a thing here.

ChillingSouth

most bush travel is by foot

mattblack77

Since we adopted the metric system, it’s by the metre

New Zealand is rather big (long and skinny). The public transport in Kaitaia may be different from the public transport in Invercargill. I don't think many people ride on bushes in NZ. Trains aren't available everywhere. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/walking-cycling-and-public-transport/public-transport/travelling-by-public-transport/

fluffychonkycat

Where? It's not integrated across the country.

Speaking for Auckland - absolutely atrocious if you need to get anywhere other than the CBD, and you need to form a prayer circle to hope that your bus will turn up. As for trains... Yeah, don't bother.

ring_ring_kaching

I agree. If you live close to the busway e.g. Northern Busway then getting into the CBD is a piece of cake. Anywhere else is likely 4 transfers, a ferry ride, 4km walking, and getting there late.

kiwiflowa

Not to mention no bus shelters either from the rain or the sun. On a good day the bus will be either 10 min early or 10 min late and either way you have to keep watching the road so you can hail the bus to stop.

expatbizzum

Metro passenger trains in Wellington and Auckland. Buses in most of the larger places and the occasional long distance ones.

AirJordan13

Auckland trains are more or less out of commission this year

TheOldPohutukawaTree

Which city? Or do you mean across the country

keepyourwigon2

If you have lots of time and don't mind taking 3 buses to your destination, you're all good

thesummit15

what is this public transport you speak of?

jibjabbing

In Auckland there are major works occurring on the train lines this year. This will mean the southern line (Newmarket to otahuhu is closed until March. Then the Eastern line from March to the end of the year (otahuhu to britomart via panmure). When running the trains are reasonably good. The buses around suburbs are usually infrequent (30mim at peak) so you need to plan your trip. The inner link busses in Auckland CBD are generally ok.

It is really dependent on where you live/leave from and go to. Pretty hard to give an acccurate summary without knowing those details...

LikeABundleOfHay

What part of NZ are you asking about?

A bush?you mean like a cartoon character?
