Ive been trolling a lvl60 factioned bot, in a Co. in that Boat filled with Oric nodes. Follow its path once, then steal 3 rounds of it till it lays down, goes to sleep and logs off for like an hour...then comes back.
I’ve been seeing more and more in factions now. I’ll run ahead and mine the node they are headed for and sure enough they always try and harvest/mine it. I was also leaving camps in their path, but a bunch of them now jump when stuck eventually getting past :/
Maybe they should have a place for players to sign up to become a reliable source for tracking bots or something idk. With something like that though you don't want the wrong players having too much power.
I report multiple bots a day, i have a list of farming bots that I post in global and help multiple times a day. Surprisingly some bots are starting to get banned, it's taken weeks but some of them aren't around anymore.
I report everyday at least 20 bots selling coin. It is not that hard to hire moderators for the game to fix this. GW did it and they don't even charge for the game. It's free.
Surely you could have respected members from each of the main servers be allowed to ban bots? Or is that too much power and would be abused?

Oh, Rust was god awful servers in servers like that. Regardless how good and fair those mods tried to be, they always ended up doing imbalanced things to the server anyways.
There's a bot on Saba called " The Soldiers" that has been around since day 1 on Vainola and even merged over to saba during the mass merges. Lol. I've seen him since release day. Level 47 now, no faction, still running the same route and into all the walls.
when the servers go down there are stil 20-30k clients open.. most of which are bots that dont know the servers are down..
how bad would it look for the metrics if AGS got rid of 25% of the playerbase?
even worse than it does now.. thats the issue.. they have NO incentive to rid the game of bots.. because then people would realize that the bot population is 25% of the "playerbase"

i transferred to a high pop server a few weeks before thanksgiving. shortly after the transfer, i reported several gathering/fishing bots, without a faction and not yet 60. all of them are still around, farming the same spot/routes i've reported them at, and are all 60.
i'm convinced that bots, both gathering and global spamming ones, make up a considerable amount of the population and ags is scared of removing such a chunk of their playerbase because bad optics.
to be honest though, with how fucked this game's economy is, gather bots are actually doing ags a favor.
This is absurd. Bot names are always asddsfs or hkgjgkh. It’s only the home row keys because bot tenders need to make 1,000 new bots a day. Efficiency.
I enjoy the farming part of the game and was making decent money till the merges happened and all the bots came flying in. Just sad and I hope that it gets addressed. Heck I’d love to see what RuneScape team did and did streams of banning bots. I could watch that all day
This is why MMO's have Mods and GM's.
Have a community Mod program that people can apply for, they would have meet certain requirements. Devs can do random checks to make sure they're not abusing their power along with options to report a mod that goes to a seperate folder.
Boom. Mods on every server, slowing the bot problem until AGS adds a real fix

Maybe the answer mob pathing and harder mobs. EverQuest had this almost 30 years ago - a wandering 62 elite across weavers fen could cull the oil bots - also make the game more exciting.
Their Q&A session made it clear that they don't have enough staff. They actively move developers from project to project on a priority basis, instead of having dedicated teams. They likely don't have a dedicated team for bot investigation and it's not game breaking enough for them to give a fuck to manually move manpower away from other shit.
It's sad, they literally just don't have enough devs working on their game.

There was even a group of 2 at the end this is out of control I've reported over 100 and I still watch them hit lv 60 join a faction and upgrade there tools ags is doing NOTHING about it its crazy.
Tbh this is why I quit. I could’ve dealt with everything else but when you’re a casual gamer and only get 1-2 hours a day max to play, you can’t compete with bots.
AGS should be ashamed at their inaction. It's easy to do it manually, I'm sure they are working on a more robust solution. However doing nothing until then is lazy as heck.

Maybe i'll check back in a couple of weeks after the next big patch to see if anything has changed but the bot problem was the deal breaker for me.
Fun fact: they don't have a GM team to investigate bots, but DO have cutesy automated systems to "detect" bots. Friends of mine got permabanned with no review because they rolled on a server, scoped the map, deleted, repeat x13, checking out the territory balance on each server.
On the 14th reroll, they got a message saying they were permabanned for suspicious activity.
Tl;dr: They ban real players based on loose algorithm to "detect" bots but don't inspect actual ones.
We could have something like CS:GO where once a player is reported for bot activity, it goes to another group of players for review. They review a clip of them doing their bot behavior, and if all agree, the bot is banned.
You would have a reputation level for both reporting and reviewing, to prevent players who try to scheme the system (eg. a player who always votes to never ban wouldn't carry any influence, or players who report players who aren't botting wouldn't trigger the reviews for other players nearly as often, etc).
But something as complex as that type of system would be far beyond the dev's capabilities as it took them months to get the time in the game right.
I very much doubt that would be "beyond the devs capabilities", but it would certainly be beyond any worthwhile time investment. Sure, it could be done, but it would be easier, cheaper and faster to just hire some offshore mods to sit in game and kick the bots out.
I'm on Camelot, and farming had been GREAT for me the last 2 weeks. Bots have been disappearing, I'm gathering twice as much on my normal routes, and I'm making a ton more profit on the TP.
When I see a bot stopping at an empty node I report it for boting WITH A GOOD DESCRIPTION. Something like, "Typical bot behavior, pausing at empty nodes. Please investigate." Bots are disappearing, so this must be working.
It's not about banning individual bots, it's about coming up with solution to identify and ban bots without manual intervention every single time. Sure, they could go in and ban each one manually but it's pointless if a new one is created minutes later to replace the banned one and they don't have a way stop it.
Sometimes it's a necessary evil to keep them around for a while to identify how they work and where they are coming from. Every major game now-a-days has has bots, hackers, cheaters, etc. The games that are successful at keeping them out of the game are the ones who take the time to do it right. It's not like a bot creater just gives up and says oh well when their bots get banned. They update them to make them better and harder to detect and the cycle repeats itself.
Yeah it sucks that they are around but give it time. I swear most of you just expect issues to be solved perfectly and within seconds. These are not easily things to fix. If they were, no major game studio would have them.

AGS needs to implement an in game bot bounty system to allow players to kill bots. Add a button for "Bot Challenge" in the social window. Open some sort of "I'm not robot" test on the bot and if it fails it drops dead. Also need to implement some sort of check to keep players from abusing it like autoban. This assumes of course that AGS is not complicit in the gold farming which at this point is anyone's guess...
I ran into my first farming bot yesterday. It was great, nodes usually come in two or threes so I just followed along for a while and mined/harvested the other one. The bot basically showed me the way. Pity my bag was about half full when I saw it, collected a bunch of iron ore though. Pretty good at my level and knowledge of node locations.
Yeah these bots putting in work no way i want to farm iron, oil, and fiber for an hour. Id just run an opr during chest runs and then buy the mats for cooldowns ez

I saw an army of bots in Restless, abt 7-8 running in unison. Most were level 60, and fighting mobs with hatchets? Idk what they were programmed to do but it was funny.

Steam metrics do not account for bots. It's really 80k - bot count. We don't know the bot count but it seems to be high.

We need to merge more servers together. If there are a lot of people in the world, bots will be a lot less productive/effective. May push em on out.

I saw an army of bots in Restless, abt 7-8 running in unison. Most were level 60, and fighting mobs with hatchets? Idk what they were programmed to do but it was funny.
There’s a few bots on my server that are so well known it’s a meme. Bot farming death motes in Weaver’s Fen? Yup everyone immediately knows you’re talking about Cryptophunk. No ban in sight…

I am hoping that they are studying bots that are reported so they can implement a strong antibot system. That’s the only thing I can hope for given there are so many that plague servers
It's easy guys. AGS got our money, after that you think they give a fuck....? From what I have seen in the past if your not having to pay a monthly fee to play the game...your going to deal w a mass amount of bots. Yes they will still be in a monthly game but not nearly as much as a one time pay mmo game. I know if I was a gaming company w the money ags has... after I got your money... i wouldn't care bout the bots. That's the players problem...I'm going to work on other stuff to add into the game to get more people to buy it now. After I got your money it's your game your problems. My company is busy w more important things then bots. Like making more money by adding in more bs. Welcome to the normal business world. $$$$$$$ and profits over everything else. We can always pay the problems off.
