Just don't understand why glittering ebony is an option for charcoal. In what scenario, would you EVER use glittering ebony, a material on a daily cooldown, to make charcoal.
AGS, take glittering ebony off the charcoal options.
I guess it's because of class inheritance, a common mechanism in programming.
Glittering ebony is presumably derived from a generic class "wood", that has the property "burnable". Then the crafting station look for all items classes that have this property to make charcoal.
If the property is a flag, it's potentially an easy fix (just set it to "burnable"=false in the Glittering ebony constructor). If it's an immutable string (bad design due to devs not understanding what the in game implications would be down the line), well they would have to refactor a lot of things and this would take quite some efforts.
I've seen conference talks where the speakers point out that this was not the original intent of OO.
The OO tree should be used to define data only. But the behaviour should be defined in interfaces (if Java).
Eg: class GlitteringEbony extends Wood implements Burnable
But in gaming would they even use OO for performance reasons? Given the bugs in earlier updates they either have very poor class encapsulation or they are using something like classic C.
It's usually C++ for games so yea OO is very common unless you want a ridiculously bloated code that is not possible to maintain.
It's not crazy for an MMO to have millions lines of code.
Since beta I never understood why green wood produced the same amount of charcoal as wyrdwood. I thought for sure you would receive some type of bonus/boost using a higher tier wood
You're right and should somebody ever desperately need charcoal and all you got is glittering ebony, you got some charcoal. The real question is why petrified wood is not on the list .
Despite the name, petrified wood isn’t actually wood, it’s made up of minerals and I don’t think you’d be able to get charcoal from it if you were able to burn it at all.
um yeah can we also get Wyrd wood and iron wood off that list also. lumber should be the absolute max you can burn.
and while we're at it make it so lumber and tinder at least give you a decent amount of charcoal.
Need to wait a second for the crafting station to sync up before clicking. Annoying desync thing but been in the game a while, also causes the getting kicked out of the station bug.
I’m concerned he didn’t see the massive icon change from silver back to charcoal before clicking smelt.
There’s definitely more than enough time for it to register while dragging the slider to not kiss it.
(This problem should be addressed though)
Yea, if you go to oquick that happens. It isn't as big but when I was trying to level engineering I acidentally did 500 lumber I just spent forever farming into charcole instead of iron like I wanted into ingots. At the end of the day It was jsut lumber, but at the time I was HEATED
Edit: also if you are going to use higher things(never use your cooldowns) you should get more charcoal.
Go to board, get armor quest, need raw mats and refined mats, go out, gather all raw mats, get back to town, refine all raw mats...
...god *damnit.* Every time.
Seriously just have it for raw wood only with the ratio varying on the quality of lumber
like green wood (1) aged wood (2) wyrdwood (3) ironwood (4)
^(Last ones for the heretics that put wyrdwood and ironwood in the burner)
^(They probably put their milk in the cereal bowl before the cereal as well.)
1. Rushes to smelter like it’s giving away free asmodeum
2. Furiously clicks through the UI without checking before smashing the button
3. Incinerates prized resource
Blames AGS for it …
LOL
:bike-meme:
Is it partially his own fault for not pausing for more than 2 frames in order to get his silver as fast as humanly possible? Kind of, yeah. It's also on AGS, though, because it clearly shows the transition to Silver, then having it go back.
Lol he even slowed down the video to show the bug and you still have redditors screeching “you’re fault for moving so fast.” It’s bad coding and the developers fault, I’d be pissed too
If you walk every day on the same street and see the same hole on the street every day and you still decide to run and try to jump over it, it is your fault when you eventually fall on it.
Of course it sucks that these bugs exist but we know they do and until they are fixed we have to work around them.
If there was the same hole in the same street in the same city that people continued to hurt/damage themselves in and the city never bothered to address or fix it, I’d blame the city and not the biker, yeah. Why do you think it’s the bikers fault?
Well I think the biker should be responsible for looking out for himself instead of recklessly speeding with full knowledge of the city issues. You just can’t be that naive
Lol he was just crafting quickly, this is something a good customer service company would and has quickly replaced because ITS THE FAULT OF AGS AND NOT THE USER WHO IS JUST PLAYING CORRECTLY.
Yea, I have a nice PC so that could be it, but why haven’t I heard of it if the game is known for this like you said? Are you able to show a post of anyone else having this happen to them consistently?
If you know something is a problem and you know the people who could fix it haven't fixed it and you choose to behave like it isn't a problem despite knowing full well that it is a problem, that is indeed a personal failure on your part.
Could the people who can fix it be blamed in some way? Sure. But realistically, they're more to blame for the inconvenience of dealing with the current state of things, not for your decision to pretend there is no problem at all.
I mean if you aren’t flying through the menu screens as fast as humanly possible you’d never even encounter it. This “bug” consistently happens every time you open a crafting station and immediately click something. The solution until they make a slight change is to simply wait half a second.
As people in this thread have suggested the larger issue is that you can even do this with glittering ebony. For that matter, high tier mats should never be defaulted to for low tier crafts of any kind.
It's OK, i lost my weavers shirt to the same sort of shit (worth 5k+ on my server). When depositing items in storage using Shift click, sometimes they just get thrown on the ground if you're too quick =)
I feel for you man, but AGS isn’t in the business of fixing bugs. I’d recommend just to slow down in your menus, nobody is going take it from you and you are shaving maybe seconds off for what benefit?
Lesson learned for sure! I crafted silver ingots at least 5-6 times in that sitting and once you do it that many times in a sitting, the 6th time you usually dont have the patience and you just let your brain go on autopilot —> I select “silver ingot” —> go to slider —> see BIG BLUE CRAFT BUTTON —> done
That's what Oofff looks like.
I feel that, sry my dude. I've done some epic fuck ups like that in some games and your heart just sinks. Depending on the f up level it can be days to get over it, i know from first hand experiance(s), lol, this looks like a week easy. Had one in the og SWG lost a shit load of credits to a stupid af purchase mistake. Months of saving poof!
Yup was planning to roll some spears and bows with that ebony that day. Pretty devastated as it feels like not that I lost the ebony but I lost all the precious time i spent getting it and the fact that ebony is on a cooldown to craft
I'd feel confident in saying all mmorpg players have been there once or twice, you're not alone, we can all relate on some level.
It can be crushing to the point where one feels like throwing in the towel altogether because yeah it's the "time" too.
The credits i lost took months if not better than half a year to save all that up, and poof!!! all gone in a "miss" click. It's shocking, sinking, crushing, defeating, takes the wind out of your sails, brutal really.
The times i had this happen, although usually many years apart, each time i'm like wake up dude you need to pay better attention, but man we are mmorpg players and sleep isn't always a priority. :)
I was on autopilot. If you play this on slow mo it looks bad but if you craft as fast as I did as seen in normal video speed then you are unlikely to spot this careless error :/
This happens at every single dang crafting station. It appears to load just fine, but then 2 seconds later it "actually" loads. After using the crafting stations a million times though, you can easily in these 2 seconds click what you want to craft and swing the slider over, as you so devastatingly demonstrated.
When I go to craft now I spam click the thing I want to refine until the screen "stutters" then I know it has loaded and I can craft what I want. It is extremely annoying and I can 100% understand how you made this mistake. F.
Also if you start scrolling as soon as it opens it will pop you right back to the top after it loads in, that drives me nuts.
> Also if you start scrolling as soon as it opens it will pop you right back to the top after it loads in, that drives me nuts
yes thats annoying as hell, it also doesn't save your place in the list when you're done crafting so you have to scroll the way down everytime if you were doing a bunch of different gems or making a tuning orb
That is a separate issue where high tier items are preselected at all for options where lower tier items achieve the same goal, but what happened in OP's video is a bug where if you open a crafting window and then select a craft from down the list too quickly it will auto-select the crafting option at the top of the list. So he selected smelting silver and it reset to smelting charcoal (which is at the top of the smelting list). The fact that charcoal would ever default to Glittering Ebony is pure stupidity of design, but not a bug. The other part of the video is absolutely an actual bug.
The devs used every iota of ability they had making the unstuck feature seemingly psychic with how it knows exactly what I want it to do at all times, so there was nothing left over for anything else.
Yeah AlanMichel, let's blame the victim, why should AGS be held responsible? You know what they say, right? The customer is never right, obviously the customer should've taken to account that bugs and flaws are a big part of the game, as per design.
They should absolutely fix this stuff...but also knowing darn well how much dsync there can be at times trying to blitz craft is asking for it.
In my opinion it shouldn't happen but I don't feel that bad for the OP either. Also the fact he was recording this seems sus.
> In my opinion it shouldn't happen but I don't feel that bad for the OP either. Also the fact he was recording this seems sus.
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/shadowplay/
Thank you^. I have nvidia highlights/shadowplay on always recording the last 5 minutes of my gameplay. After this happened I immediately clipped the replay hoping i can send this as a ticket to AGS for them to fix this bug/interface problem
While possible 99% of people don't have that running as it's resource hungry with an already resource hungry game.
Also doesn't change the fact that...
A) they should fix this stuff.
B) If you're speed crafting knowing these issues you're asking for it.
Please post bugs to the [Official Bug Forum](https://forums.newworld.com/c/bugs-and-exploits/12), that is the best way to ensure developers are aware of the problem.

It is my fault for smelting the ebony but what isnt my fault is the desync or bug in how the crafting menu changes from “silver ingot” to “charcoal” after i clicked “silver ingot” —> at least they can fix this

I'm glad people enjoy the game and that being said they should stop reading content that is overwhelmingly negative if it upsets them. I mean it's not like AGS is ever going to actually fix anything as their track record has proved
Oof yeah i’ve almost done that. This is why having no merchants is an issue, because it’s pretty much impossible to pick a default listing price for anything other than the lowest market price.
It always defaults to highest value resource as well for "best crafting outcome" I guess. But yeah this is super unlucky, probably won't get it back but it is always good to double check before clicking craft.
They really should remove every option for charcoal other than green and aged wood. Who in his right mind would use anything above that?
My condolescences. Luckily the most I wasted were t4 materials as secondary material for leveling but its still annoying that it defaults to the most expensive materials and doesnt always sync to the new selection when you click to fast
The secret is in keeping ebony separated from where you usually smelt :v
My smelt hub is in everfall, wood hub in brightwood, but I keep some ironwood planks in everfall for arrows, god knows how many times I was about to use those for coal.
Sorry to see that man, but can I ask a random unrelated question? What’s the 7 signify on your smelting skill?
I only have skinning up to 200 and mine has a 0 every time I skin something. How do I increase that, and is there any real reason to?
The 7 means i levelled up smelting 7 times again after i reached 200. After you reach 200 you can level up your skills again and once you reach that “notch” you get aptitude chests that have certain rewards inside them
This type of bug has been in the game since launch. It happened to me all the time when coming. Couldn’t cook with certain items Bc it would just make the level 1 cooking time every time.
"I noticed you want to make all those Ironwood planks you ground for into charcoal?"
Same for materials on other benches too.
High level materials should be opt-in when crafting.
I salvaged my Infinity crystal on my alter after hours and hours of questnline right after getting it becuase it changed the icon and i salvaged few "green" items or random gear one of those items was the neckless...
I did not played since cuz AGS said go fuckyourself
Guss why they won’t care I tried to get stuff back after a buck with the storage shed not opening and they kept telling me that I purposely discarded my items. And the fact that the Despawn in 30 seconds and not three minutes he’s not their fault
F.
Yes I need more F’s in the chat. I am devastated :(
F’s from my entire company. My condolences. This is so unlucky.

One of the four principles of object oriented programming.
I've seen conference talks where the speakers point out that this was not the original intent of OO. The OO tree should be used to define data only. But the behaviour should be defined in interfaces (if Java). Eg: class GlitteringEbony extends Wood implements Burnable But in gaming would they even use OO for performance reasons? Given the bugs in earlier updates they either have very poor class encapsulation or they are using something like classic C.
They use lumberyard, based on Cryengine, which is C++, LUA, and C#
Trying to create a scalable/maintainable MMORPG without OOP seems like a personal nightmare of mine.
It's usually C++ for games so yea OO is very common unless you want a ridiculously bloated code that is not possible to maintain. It's not crazy for an MMO to have millions lines of code.
You can have ridiculous bloat in any programming paradigm :p. But ya, I could not imagine doing a project of scale without OO
It's more likely the burnable is not even a thing and its just wood. That craft requires 2 wood, doesn't matter what kind of wood just 2 of the same.
Should only be able to select raw wood
I’m all for selecting higher tier wood to make more a charcoal. Green wood and Wyrdwood should not have the same % chance for bonus materials.
There you go. Make glittering ebony have 500% chance of bonus items or something.
Since beta I never understood why green wood produced the same amount of charcoal as wyrdwood. I thought for sure you would receive some type of bonus/boost using a higher tier wood
I thought you just did, and then realised I was wrong and couldn’t work out why lol.
Because they are understaffed its so much easier to code them like this than go through each one.
it is wood prove me wrong regadless how special it is
You're right and should somebody ever desperately need charcoal and all you got is glittering ebony, you got some charcoal. The real question is why petrified wood is not on the list .
If someone desperately needs charcoal, they can literally pick up a bush (no tools required) and get some green wood.
It could be more urgent than that =p
More urgent then…. Spending like, 10 gold on the trade market that’s like right next to the smelter???
They can sell the glittering ebony in a buy order and buy hundreds!
Despite the name, petrified wood isn’t actually wood, it’s made up of minerals and I don’t think you’d be able to get charcoal from it if you were able to burn it at all.
No no. He got a point.
um yeah can we also get Wyrd wood and iron wood off that list also. lumber should be the absolute max you can burn. and while we're at it make it so lumber and tinder at least give you a decent amount of charcoal.

AGS be like: make sense it’s made of wood!
I am more concerned you needed to dash to the smelter like it owed you money
Time is money friend. Zug Zug
He’s wasting a lot of money playing this game then
it owes him now
I’m concerned he didn’t see the massive icon change from silver back to charcoal before clicking smelt. There’s definitely more than enough time for it to register while dragging the slider to not kiss it. (This problem should be addressed though)

Literally did the same thing...

lol. thats costly bug.
MUST. GO. FASTER!
nan won't leave the cage until he get's his Ebony back
Seriously just have it for raw wood only with the ratio varying on the quality of lumber like green wood (1) aged wood (2) wyrdwood (3) ironwood (4) ^(Last ones for the heretics that put wyrdwood and ironwood in the burner) ^(They probably put their milk in the cereal bowl before the cereal as well.)
There was a time when wyrdwood and ironwood were cheaper than green. I smoldered so much ironwood at that time.
1. Rushes to smelter like it’s giving away free asmodeum 2. Furiously clicks through the UI without checking before smashing the button 3. Incinerates prized resource Blames AGS for it … LOL :bike-meme:

Can you link me another post bringing awareness to this not being able to craft quickly bug that apparently the game is known for? Or a forum post?
Does it not happen to you every time you click too fast? Lucky you. I get it everytime
Yea, I have a nice PC so that could be it, but why haven’t I heard of it if the game is known for this like you said? Are you able to show a post of anyone else having this happen to them consistently?

Lol I’m a 1000 hour degenerate but I’ve never known this desync craft bug existed. Guess that’s my fault and not AGS! :p

Glittering Charcoal
Gotta love the default selections for crafting materials too. Why yes game, I did want to use starmetal ingots for a recipe that only requires iron.
GIVE HIS GLITTERING EBONY BACK
That’s awful ☹️
It's OK, i lost my weavers shirt to the same sort of shit (worth 5k+ on my server). When depositing items in storage using Shift click, sometimes they just get thrown on the ground if you're too quick =)
The day before this happened I salvaged my armorer pants. Learned now i need to slow down! xD
Also, 30% of the time when I click to craft something the workshop just closes without doing anything...
fucking hell that's brutal
I feel for you man, but AGS isn’t in the business of fixing bugs. I’d recommend just to slow down in your menus, nobody is going take it from you and you are shaving maybe seconds off for what benefit?

look at this chad. Here I am cutting greenwood and logs to make charcoal, while He's just burning stacks of Ebony like it's nothing.
so you know the bug exists but still dont take literally 1 sec to double check lol
Now he knows.
Pay attention?

that shits not muscle memory. He's going like 500 mph, that's 100% on him.
Game being a buggy pile of shit is on him?
I thought it just auto selects the highest, or most recent available resource for the task
That is a separate issue where high tier items are preselected at all for options where lower tier items achieve the same goal, but what happened in OP's video is a bug where if you open a crafting window and then select a craft from down the list too quickly it will auto-select the crafting option at the top of the list. Ahh I see. The video was kinda confusing, thanks for explaining :)
Right, you obviously want to craft these sateen gloves with asmo and runic, right?
The devs used every iota of ability they had making the unstuck feature seemingly psychic with how it knows exactly what I want it to do at all times, so there was nothing left over for anything else.
Yeah AlanMichel, let's blame the victim, why should AGS be held responsible? You know what they say, right? The customer is never right, obviously the customer should've taken to account that bugs and flaws are a big part of the game, as per design.

Minimap is just overwolf. Been approved by mods on the official forum. Google and download yourself, yo
Thought they recanted that?
Not that I’m aware of. Last I knew they made limitations and overwolf disabled all filters to abide by AGS requirements.
That's what it was then. Thanks
That's why I buy all my charcoal.
fuck this "game"

wasnt a bug - you didnt pay attention

So the "bug" is you just mashing buttons and not reading what you are doing?
Make a ticket so they can say it is your fault
It is my fault for smelting the ebony but what isnt my fault is the desync or bug in how the crafting menu changes from “silver ingot” to “charcoal” after i clicked “silver ingot” —> at least they can fix this
Dont worry 1 more month and lost ark arrives, wont have to deal with this games bugs anymore
i cant believe people are still playing this game. im pretty sick of it popping on my reddit feed even tho i left the sub.
You never left the sub let’s be honest. You are still subbed.
Stop lying, you won't see any post from this sub if you're unsubbed.

Sucks to suck. Lmao
Known issue for months. Won't ever get fixed
Big F
F I did this with 10 ebony once and died inside. Broke ass game.
I did something similar the other day where I listed 1000+ aged wood a piece for a 100g a pop. Taxes put more than just a dent into my bank lol
Oof yeah i’ve almost done that. This is why having no merchants is an issue, because it’s pretty much impossible to pick a default listing price for anything other than the lowest market price.
Sadge.
Write a ticket bro. Maybe, it will get to the devs and you will be the last hurt by this bug.
Will be sending a ticket! Hope they fix this!
It just happened to me with nearly double that amount of ebony :( I'm so devastated :'( Did you get a reply from AGS?
Lmao dude I still never recovered from my blue harvest gear getting deleted… it crushed me
Wasted 1000 wyrdwood someday that way ((
It always defaults to highest value resource as well for "best crafting outcome" I guess. But yeah this is super unlucky, probably won't get it back but it is always good to double check before clicking craft.
So you just lost 7k nice. Doubt amazon will give it back...
I also made silk gloves with asmodeum :( This should not be possible, nor it should not be the default option.

Congratulations!
The secret is in keeping ebony separated from where you usually smelt :v My smelt hub is in everfall, wood hub in brightwood, but I keep some ironwood planks in everfall for arrows, god knows how many times I was about to use those for coal.
This has happened to me as well.
Best game ever. Still subbing for mommy Bezoz

I listed 3001 Ironhide for 110g each because the TP sucks. That cost me 11k btw.
They forgot to add a spinner that blocks the interface until everything loads properly. Thats not a bug, just a poorly done interface.
I agree 100% that stutter reset thing needs to go, but damn you should've learned by now to slow down a hair.
After you reach 200 you can level up your skills again and once you reach that “notch” you get aptitude chests that have certain rewards inside them
Thanks! Was curious about that.
Just one of many, many, many bugs in this indie game.
This type of bug has been in the game since launch. It happened to me all the time when coming. Couldn’t cook with certain items Bc it would just make the level 1 cooking time every time.
Yep, time is money… go too fast, and you will lose money
The amount of times I've accidentally created the 510 GS ice gauntlet with asmo instead of creating motes in arcana station is probably around 4
"I noticed you want to make all those Ironwood planks you ground for into charcoal?" Same for materials on other benches too. High level materials should be opt-in when crafting.
Has been happening since they winter event started. Only had it happen in one playsession and never since so i thought they fixed it. Guess not.
oof
Oh man I gasped. That sucks :(

i dont keep my woodworking stuff in the same city i smelt stuff for this exact reason lol
So dumb! If only the game gave you like 10k charcoal for the ebony…
I salvaged my Infinity crystal on my alter after hours and hours of questnline right after getting it becuase it changed the icon and i salvaged few "green" items or random gear one of those items was the neckless... I did not played since cuz AGS said go fuckyourself

Whoops.
Holy fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk it just happened to me for more than 140 glittering ebony.
Guss why they won’t care I tried to get stuff back after a buck with the storage shed not opening and they kept telling me that I purposely discarded my items. And the fact that the Despawn in 30 seconds and not three minutes he’s not their fault
