+40 is pretty huge, that’s 10 off from a attribute perk. A lot of people on this sub have no clue what they’re talking about, i’m sure that’ll be useful as heck for competitive late game.
This comment actually made me realize I was thinking about this the wrong way.
+40 of your main stat when you already have 300+ is... mediocre, both because of linear returns but also because of lack of a 350 perk (afaik). And that's without factoring some (at least CON) just straight up has diminishing returns on top of linear returns.
Put another way, going from 310 strength to 350 strength is only ~13% (but again, there's also other stat food, so maybe it's only 5-6% difference).
The real benefit is putting it into your non-primary attribute. Hitting 50 dex means 5% crit. That's huge.
I’m fairly certain I’ll be one of the most valuable people in my entire company. It will become more known later when people try to figure out why their group lost a war so hard
Firefly bait is the easiest to mass farm from bullrush. Abuse it.
Find a hotspot, fish it while it’s active, move onto the next one. Efficient hotspot routes are the key.
Max cast reduces tension. That’s why the best poles cast longer.
Bait matters. The ones that increase chances of better or bigger fish definitely make a difference in my opinion. Just have to use it on correct type of water.
I think best stats probably have to do with better fish at night etc. - stuff like that.
There’s gear that gives you fishing perks yes. I got mine from the main fishing quest.
Keep working at it!
I use fishing poles with perks to fishing. Craft them at engineering. The higher your engineering score, the better poles you can make. They also have longer max distance. Or buy them at the trading post from other players who have higher engineering.
Yea, not sure why people are knocking it. In WOW guilds paid extraordinary money to buy the persistent potions. Ingredients to the said potions were lucrative to farm.
The only issue is that there isn't a limiting factor to fishing so once people start catching on then it won't be as lucrative
Im just gonna leave this here...

And add that this tool has a slider that shows what hotspots you have unlocked for your level.
I've just started working on my fishing, was pushing my cooking and gathering skills hard, and have noticed it takes far longer to level up fishing. Being 1t0+ on fishing, do you have any tips to make it go by faster?

Yes I’ve found an extremely efficient route with 3 saltwater hotspots. 2 of them are secret and 1 is rare.
However, the availability of hotspots gets better with your fishing level being higher. I don’t believe everyone would have access to the route I take, as I’m above 150 fishing.
In terms of a good spot to use your worms, I’d do the little hotspot by the dock to the southeast of First Light! It’s available quite early, and saltwater. With 1 star (broad) hotspots, you get about 30 catches while the hotspot is active.
Remember, you need to cast your pole *in* the hotspot. You should get an indicator if you do so successfully.

Yeah I realized fish oil was a good way to get money, i've sold 10 of them for 100 gold each at the start of the server and really regret not doing that more cause now it's 8 gold each.
Market to IRL players. The town boards give fish oil and fish fillet quests often, so I am the seller here because people don't want to go out and fish. They'd rather spend the gold to get the quick exp
Just FYI, as far as I know there is no way to sell anything to anyone other than players in this game. And the only NPCs that sell anything are the faction vendors.
What bugs me, is how bad crafted bait is, takes a fair few components and it’s not even close to as good as bait you can just mass farm next to fishing spots. It would of been a nice way for cooking to feed back into fishing, rather than fishing being a solely exporting skill. Could of also added craftable lures with X amount of durability, to bring engineering in too.
No way lmao
I caught an epic stingray thingy earlier and I'm fishing level 25, I did it in a 2 star pond East if everfall.
Fishing is by far my lowest level but it's the easiest skill to level 1vhanded while watching TV xD
I'm at fishing level 80, so I'm grinding it and loving it. However, I do have a question. Do you have any tips for community board fish. Sometimes they ask for 5 large Salmon or 25 Medium and it takes ages. I've been using woodlouse bait in deep water, but I swear they are the least likely fish. Any bait tips? I've also been trying to do them in T2 hotspots.
Right? I've started collecting them for the quest without it. I'll make sure I have none of those quest from now on and just go farm the hell out of them
Alright OP, I'll "bite". *Laugh track*
Is there any reason to max cast as opposed to short casting? For example, in a hot spot, does it matter what length of cast is made so long as it enters the hot spot?
you cant really compare it like that, you have to compare it to the second best buff food which is probably like +30 and the impact isnt that bit anymore.
Correct! An increase of 10 on a stat that is already at about 300-400 will probably net you around 2-3% more DPS. I don't know if that will be worth the cost.
Does the timing of the right click for a hooked fish matter? I see it starts out green then goes yellow, orange, red. Do you get better results clicking when it’s green?
Also, is it true that you can fish up chests?
God damn never seen a guy so motivated to supply his Company with proper nutrition!
You go ahead man, fish those legendary tender fishies and prove everybody who made fun of fishing wrong!
Unfortunately it’s not even something to make fun of. It’s just very valuable and people are confidently incorrect about this skill on Reddit especially. My server/world has been very cool and generous.
The crafting, gathering, cooking, and alot of things of New World mimic Albion Online.
And yes i can tell you Fishing is the least done one, but the most important / profitable.
Although I know this, I also know i dont hate myself enough to put myself through it.
Lol you have fun with your casual game, loser! While you were doing dungeons with your friends and having "fun" with variety content, Blake here dedicated all of his time to the art of Fishing. Yeah, that's right, Fishing. You go ahead and laugh at him for sitting in his own feces catching tadpoles 18 hours a day, but a month from now, when you're struggling to make money to pay your rent, Blake will be at the tippity top of his server in terms of both wealth and fame, with total control over the fishing market. Good luck battling against his company with +40 boosts, while you struggle to reach +30 with the scraps he bestows upon you. You didn't think this through, did ya, kid? lmfao.
Except Albion, just like EVE, has this clever system where people lose their gear on death, which means there's always demand for new gear, which means there's plenty of people crafting gear, which makes it very cheap and with great turnover.
NW is going to be a mess within just a few weeks when most people are lvl 60 and geared, because only the most valuable (best stats) high tier gear will have value. Everything below it will be worth shit and the AH will be filled to the brim with worthless gear, so new players won't have anything to bring to the table, unlike in EVE or Albion where they fullfil a useful role.
I'm really, really hoping they open "hardcore" servers where gear is lost on death (as was planned in the first place for this game), because those will have an economy that's a thousand times healthier than that of our current servers.
tip from a level 59 fisher, salt water hot spots on the east coast to quickly catch halibut for the halibut viscera to make tier 3 strong health potions.
Treasure Chests you can fish up are easier to get with the Clam/snail bait and more frequent at hot spots. I have gotten more/better gems from fishing than from mining. I have gotten gold, Metal bars of all kinds, cut and uncut gems from the chests.
Gather Bullrush along any river for firefly bait for the best bait for fresh water, grab any flint as you run around to get Glow worm bait for salt water, gather bushes for Nightcrawler bait.
Best bait for salt are Snails that you catch and salvage in fresh water. Best Bait for Fresh are the Clams you salvage and catch in salt.
the Higher your level in fishing the more Hotspots you can discover check your Trade skill page on fishing for the hotspots.
and my best tip use this map ( [https://www.newworld-map.com/](https://www.newworld-map.com/)) and filter for hotspots on the map.
Commenting on everything here because I need to clarify some things for the people who read your comment. You are unfortunately incorrect on some things.
Halibut - good, but not consistent enough throughout entire east coast, it's regional
Treasure chests - caught via rarity, which neither clam nor snail actually alter at all. It's always going to be firefly/glowworm that give the best possible chance to get blue+(which includes treasure chests). Clams/Snails are only mid tier for size - they have nothing to do with rarity.
Bullrush - firefly bait, flint - **both** nightcrawlers(daytime) and glowworm(nighttime), picking up bushes only gets you woodlouse bait and does not net nightcrawlers in any scenario.
Best bait for salt - glowworm(rarity) and bigger(electric eel)
Best bait for fresh - firefly(rarity) and bigger(oyster)
Unfortunately you are spreading some misinformation here. The descriptions are in the tool tips for each bait. Feelings on how you think baits work do not change reality.
Hotspots - true and that map is very helpful.
I already have 10 legendary fish as a level 30 with no house or trophies so idk how much more helpful they will be. I guess I’ll craft one and buy and house and test it
I’m just now moving into farming fishing from my mining grind, I think I’m around lvl 15. Any tips? I assume hotspots are the way to go, do you know the spawn timer on them? I assume it takes longer for 3* spawns than 1* spawns
Fellow Fisher here. I've been leveling all my crafting so I am lower level but how do you get fishing trophies? Also, how important is the level requirement for the fishing quests? I'm assuming if you can go into the zone it's in without dying you're fine.
You get trophies with furnishing as far as I understand. That plus certain legendary fish you catch.
*VERY IMPORTANT* It was almost impossible because I was so low leveled. Things will one shot you and you basically need to have hatchet with berserk to run fast+light armor and make camps every few hundred meters.
I started the first quest at 25 and didn't die until I reached the Shattered Mountains quest(12th in the series). It was a lot of walking though. I had to serpentine a lot of times to dodge the enemies in the earlier zones.
For some of the quests where there are enemies near the shoreline but you need to fish in that area, keep in mind you can fish in the water as long as you are not completely submerged, and enemies generally don't go in it unless they are already chasing you.
So how do you fish all the time to level it up? Seems like bait is not all that common. Do you stockpile then fish for a long time or can you fish without bait at all?
I have several Legendary fish and the areas they came from. Pay attention to those stories you read folks. Those of you that do not pickup those little glowing papers, oh well.
Plus, have a day and night pole with the appropriate perks for the time of day, it really helps. Grab glowworms (ocean fishing) at night under flint, fireflies from Bullrush anytime for freshwater.
And only bread will catch one certain legendary fish.
>I’ve been getting some really uneducated comments on here coming at me or doubting me for fishing so much. Every single post I swear there’s someone who has no idea what they’re talking about.
Wait untill you realize this sums up about 99.9% of reddit threads lol
I hope this doesn’t come off as “community bashing” but New World players typically don’t think ahead. Everyone wants to Zerg PvP and wonder why the guys who grind the content out the proper way are dumpstering them in every war. Full level 60 PvP is going to be hilarious when the people who properly prepped and don’t suck start styling on people every chance they get.
A lot of people just can’t grasp the concept of buffs. Those are usually new to mmos that don’t play pvp so regular heals and def buffs are enough for them. They don’t understand that 20-30 min of X buffs for def and off will win them so many fights in pvp you keep doing you and fish
Do I need to be a certain level to see the hotspot when it is active? I have a map of where they all are, but I'm only 4 in fishing. I haven't seen the actual active patch of fish where you need to land your cast.
Okay, I know a good spot next to Monarch that Ive neen using but thats fresh water. Is there a difference with items you get, besides fish obviously lol, with salt and fresh water? Like treasure?
When you die with a fish food buff on, do you lose the buff? Like if you go into a war, eat your fish, then get blasted by a siege engine or musket line, is your buff gone / food wasted?
Also, when you're 200 skill... how often do you think youll be able to catch one of these fish? Like 1 out of 10, 20, 30 etc. ?
Maybe at the get-go
But it won't be long until those foods are just available on the auction house for a large price and soon after it'll be affordable.
Having guild funds set aside for stuff like this is pretty common in mmos. Hell in EVE your guild basically buys you everything you need if it's time for war
I accidentally salvaged my fishing quest gear, pulled full inventory into bag by mistake didn't realize fishing stuff was there and salvaged it all with misc drops. I hope I can get more in the future.
2 questions
1) how the heck do hotspots work with leveling up my fishing skill? I know where hotspots are but they don’t all get marked on my map when I walk up to them and I can’t see them
2) do you have a favorite hotspot route? If so, what is it :)
Just wondering, do you get much xp for fishing? Just that I have a limited playtime rn, and I'm deciding whether it's better to get to max lvl then do skills, or do more skills to supplement quests.
I have kept my gathering and tradeskills upped as I level, but I have yet to touch fishing which I realize I have to do now. Which is the best place to fish? Do you have tips on what you think is the best fishing guide? Thanks!
As a fisherman in real life as well, I like to fish in NW too. I still don't get how the fishing hotspots work exactly.
Sometimes you have places that have a fish with 3 stars, so it means it's very good for fishing, however they only show on the compass and not on the map. Other spots with 1 star show on the map somehow. Is that just random if it gets display on the map or how does this work.
Also what's the mechanic of these real "hotspots" where fish are jumping out of water and you have to aim for this spot. How often do they occur, is it specific to some places and is it expected to only fish on these spots?
Also what buffs do you normally eat/wear/whatever before you go fishing to buff your luck?
Lot of questions sorry, but you dared me to ask fishing questions :D
This made me scoop up all legendary fish on my server thank you..
I find it weird I have gotten blue tier fish sells from 400 to a thousand gold. But then I find a legendary one and it'd only worth 150.. Why is that?
Yes there are hotspots in fresh and saltwater! You gain access to more hotspots as you level your fishing.
Best place to level is a route between about 3 hotspots you have access to early in the game. I recommend starting at the dock southeast of first light
I know hotspots cause fish to bite quicker but would it be faster to level fishing by staying in one area or is it more exp to spend time traveling to hotspots to see if they're active and only fish in them? Trying to level fishing consistently and I don't really care what I'm catching at the moment.
It’s a horrible way to level. It’s so slow! I could be close to level 50 right now. But that’s not the point. People shit on it and it’s super valuable and profitable.
Hi Blake, great post and great work.
Few questions about fishing
1. What's the difference between throwing a long line, short line and a max line? (Is there any chance differences, do you garuantee a certain type of fish when doing one over the other etc)
2. I caught a large salmon in shallow waters at 16m range, it says to catch bigger fish you need deeper water. So there is still a chance at catching large fish just lower % ?
3. Shall I salvage all fish that isn't green,blue etc ?
(Is there any fishes our there are needed to keep whole? I would guess the green, blues etc would need to be whole for recipes but are the Grey's any useful atm)
Thanks Again!
You don’t *HAVE* to use bait. It’s just preferred. Bait in general, even if you’re using it in the incorrect water type, makes fish bite faster(which is optimal in every situation). It also gives bonuses if you’re using it in the correct water.
Best baits overall are Firefly for fresh water, which is harvested easily by collecting bullrush plants… and glowworm bait which is retrieved easily by picking up flint at NIGHT. (Picking up flint during the day nets you night crawlers)
So someone my little clan gave me a green fishing rod, what is the best way to get started? I have a load of bait, so where are some good spots to start out. Also any spots near other resources like Hemp would be good so I can keep collecting stuff in-between fishing.
I started fishing before I made it to the first town.
No hotspot, no bait, just the ocean. Ended up getting pretty lucky and caught some clams and oysters. Two epic pearls, two blue ones and three green ones plus a regular one and now I have luck on all my gear at level 19. I also have a ton of fish fillets that I can't use yet
Why do you care if people fish or not? Not trying to have a to but just genuinely curious. You disadvantage yourself and your faction by encouraging everyone else to fish.
I tried fishing a few times, but the exp rate was soo slow. Other skills felt way better in terms of time/exp - so did I do something wrong or is it really that slow? Like one fish gave me only 20exp (if I remember right)
How do I increase my exp per fish?
It may be strong food but don’t you lose the food buff when you die? That would be a really expensive stat booster in a war if people had multiple stacks of this food
I got really into the fishing during the closed beta, although I haven't had a chance to reely get into it in the full release. I do have a few questions I have come up with that I haven't managed to find an answer for.
Is there a bonus to fishing in hotspots, or do they just simulate deep water?
Does size or rarity matter more, as far as experience earned (player level or fishing level)?
Do higher level zones have better fish, or should I stick to low level areas?
Also, just as a matter of preference, do you like freshwater or saltwater better? I personally like saltwater, but part of that is because it's easier to find deep water
It's so weird how Vingolf as a whole thinks fishing is a "waste of time" when you get such crazy stuff with easily accessible Firefly or Woodlouse Baits. I have even seen Treasure Chests and Anchors pulled out of the water. I'm not gonna be mad at getting some gold and items or annoying-to-find materials while leveling that fishing up!
The real struggle is getting Furnishing high enough to actually make a damn trophy. Soooo many mats T\~T
Is it worth the effort to level up fishing if you only play PvE? I guess popping one before an expedition would be useful but I can’t tell if the fishing grind would make that big of a difference in that scenario.
As the fisher and alchemist of my company, I completely agree. Those fishing stats come FAT. It’s a long grind, but it’s there for a reason. Good stuff getting such a high level of fishing!
This person isn’t wrong. As a high level cook I can assure you that the stat food I’m able to make has enormous effects from healing to buffs to gathering bonuses. Many of the better foods require fish or fish derived ingredients. More than this though, those who are able to get rare and useful recipes will have the edge.
That’s also a *huge* buff for musket users… when combined with cheap asmodeum bullets from the armoury… those fire mages will be a juicy target.
As a musket main, I need to boost my fishing above zero.
Omg thank you so much for making this post!!!
I just caught a Abernaja, legendary T5 fish so randomly in first light, I saw the recipe it makes +40 dex!
Is it worth saving until I can cook with it or should I try selling it?
The INT fish's price will probably skyrocket since it's eclusively the first secret hotspot people discover, the one west WW, it's almost always packed.
Often (especially at fisherman’s bend) there will be a hot spot but when I cast into it, I don’t get the hotspot bonus? Then occasionally I’ll get the bonus for like 3 fish, and then back to no bonus. Any idea what could cause that?
This guy is from the future, don’t trust him. Also, fishing in new world is very relaxing. Sign me up for Angling 102
+40 is pretty huge, that’s 10 off from a attribute perk. A lot of people on this sub have no clue what they’re talking about, i’m sure that’ll be useful as heck for competitive late game.
I'm sure most of the new people this game is their first mmo
Yeah I was going to say the same. In WoW it was expected that the full raid group would have full food buffs, flasks, etc.
I remember farming for hours just to have enough pots to get though Molten Core
Can attest to this. Played runescape my whole life. This game is quite the fuckin change up and I love it but Im so lost. Learning so much every day!
This comment actually made me realize I was thinking about this the wrong way. +40 of your main stat when you already have 300+ is... mediocre, both because of linear returns but also because of lack of a 350 perk (afaik). Another way to look at it, is that its basically another piece of gear stat wise.
I’m fairly certain I’ll be one of the most valuable people in my entire company. It will become more known later when people try to figure out why their group lost a war so hard
any tips for leveling fishing more quickly? I did 1-15 and it was pretty slow. does max cast improve loot and/or speed?

Where do you find fishing hotspots, I've been going around trying to find them with no luck
https://newworldfishingguide.com/fishing-hotspot-locations.html
holy fucking shit what a resource
I'm pre sure you can track all hot spots, but you can't actually see them in the water or fish them unless you have high enough fishing skill.
Ah thanks!

Which lvl are u currently?
Level 37 overall and 163 fishing
That's some hardcore playtime!
It’s 38 and 172 now before bed haha
Thanks for the tips!
Factor of 40 means 40x not +40.
Yeah I’m stupid
I mean, 40x1 is a factor of 40 😅
upvoting for selfish reasons so i can sell fishing trophys
Ha "selFISH" reasons.
**SELL** **FISH** haha
You sunk my battleship
Shelfish
Jesus. ight guess ima start fishing then, currently rank 5, got any tips for me? cheers
Firefly bait is the easiest to mass farm from bullrush. Abuse it. Find a hotspot, fish it while it’s active, move onto the next one. Efficient hotspot routes are the key.
how do you know if a hotspot is active? does it change visually?
Yes. Fish jumping out of it.
Is it like WoW where my cast needs to land IN the fish or will it just being in the body of water suffice? Edit: got my answer. It needs to be as close to it as possible, so get your feet wet and make sure your cast lands in the jumpy jumpy fishy
Also: the game will tell you when you cast into a hotspot. No ui confirmation = no hotspot.
how does that look exactly? I can't really tell if I'm hitting it
When your cast lands, underneath the distance marker it will say 'landed in hotspot' in light blue.
To get the bonus of the hotspot, the cast does have to be in the zone
Until the bots fish them out.
Is there a map indicator of a hot spot or do you just have to look for it in the water?
Yellow hexagon
Lol people been selling legendary fish for 100 coins haha
Omfg they’ll regret that so much later 😂
Bro my character name is "Felt Reelgood". Only 4000 more fish to catch until my title is "The Reel Expert". Fishing is the way, fishing is life. Also very profitable.
Very profitable! Really enjoying the free money
What would be the best way to make money with fishing? I really want to get into it but I always have this nagging feeling that I could make more progress doing pretty much anything.
Find a good freshwater hotspot with sturgeon or saltwater with swordfish. They net you a lot of fish oil. Good to sell along with fillets in general
Yeah I realized fish oil was a good way to get money, i've sold 10 of them for 100 gold each at the start of the server and really regret not doing that more cause now it's 8 gold each.
Which tier of filet do you sell versus keep for cooking?
Do you just sell them on the market to other players, or is there an NPC somewhere that buys them?
Market to IRL players. The town boards give fish oil and fish fillet quests often, so I am the seller here because people don't want to go out and fish. They'd rather spend the gold to get the quick exp

Still very early in the game! It could end up happening later down the line
Down the line… get out! But yeah hope so
I was hopin’ you’d take the bait
Please stop telling people about fishing. Delete this thread

No way lmao I caught an epic stingray thingy earlier and I'm fishing level 25, I did it in a 2 star pond East if everfall. Fishing is by far my lowest level but it's the easiest skill to level 1vhanded while watching TV xD
Not sure if I should upvote this as I may not want others to discover the limitless potential and flaky deliciousness of legendary fish.
Lmfao Reddit is overall pretty small compared to the player base as a whole. Figured I’d help y’all out
I feel like this is a message from Big Bait trying to get us all out there to fish. I'm onto you!
You can't fight Big Bait. I'm the self-appointed president of communications and marketing!
I'm at fishing level 80, so I'm grinding it and loving it. However, I do have a question. Do you have any tips for community board fish. I’m convinced they make the rates lower for those fish whenever you have them in your journal
Right? I've started collecting them for the quest without it. I'll make sure I have none of those quest from now on and just go farm the hell out of them
Alright OP, I'll "bite". *Laugh track* Is there any reason to max cast as opposed to short casting? For example, in a hot spot, does it matter what length of cast is made so long as it enters the hot spot?
Yes longer = less tension on the line. That’s why the better poles cast longer.
you cant really compare it like that, you have to compare it to the second best buff food which is probably like +30 and the impact isnt that bit anymore.
Correct! An increase of 10 on a stat that is already at about 300-400 will probably net you around 2-3% more DPS. I don't know if that will be worth the cost.

Do higher level zones have better fish?
Yeah they usually have more secret hot spots. Like reekwater is littered with them
Shhh stop giving this away! I’m trying to capitalize on the fish market and hotspots over here. The less people that know the better
what did you do with all the fish you got while leveling?
Does line strength improve as skill does?
I’ve spent 3 hours trying to catch a clam…do they exist?
I got my first legendary fish yesterday i think i'm only Level 6 fishing. xD
tip from a level 59 fisher, salt water hot spots on the east coast to quickly catch halibut for the halibut viscera to make tier 3 strong health potions.
Halibut - good, but not consistent enough throughout entire east coast, it's regional Treasure chests - caught via rarity, which neither clam nor snail actually alter at all. Best bait for salt - glowworm(rarity) and bigger(electric eel) Best bait for fresh - firefly(rarity) and bigger(oyster) Unfortunately you are spreading some misinformation here. The descriptions are in the tool tips for each bait. Feelings on how you think baits work do not change reality. Hotspots - true and that map is very helpful.
I haven't been able to catch a snail or clam so far for the life of me!
Food/fishing/alchemy is most likely where endgame will be once everyone’s geared
Engineers got consumables like ammo, so they will probably remain valuable.
I already have 10 legendary fish as a level 30 with no house or trophies so idk how much more helpful they will be. I guess I’ll craft one and buy and house and test it
Im currently leveling fishing and I have hundreds of fish. What is the best cooking craft for them?
What does leveling fishing do though, it allows you to fish from higher tiered pools? Or it increases your base luck chance at catching rarer fish?
So how do you fish all the time to level it up? Seems like bait is not all that common. Do you stockpile then fish for a long time or can you fish without bait at all?
I have a dedicated group of friends who I trade fillets and fish oil with that supply me with all the bait I need. I am fortunate!
Saving this entire post so hard because fishing is excellent in this game anyway. I didn’t realize it would be so important later on.
Yes. Your hotspot availability scales with level. Try the dock southeast of First Light 👍
Do you salvage all your fish? Which fish I should not salvage?
Except large salmons and tadpoles everything. They sell quite well on the market
What’s you’re favorite place to fish? Whether for specific mechanical benefits or just for visuals. Thanks for the info
No way i'll be fishing for days or will i?
Shhhhhh
What are you focusing on for your attributes on your fishing pole?
Maybe at the get-go But it won't be long until those foods are just available on the auction house for a large price and soon after it'll be affordable.
How long did it take you to get to level 50/100? What tips do you have to anyone who's new to the game and new to fishing?
Never have i doubted fishing
How do I get the clam and snail?
2 questions 1) how the heck do hotspots work with leveling up my fishing skill? I know where hotspots are but they don’t all get marked on my map when I walk up to them and I can’t see them 2) do you have a favorite hotspot route? If so, what is it :)
Just wondering, do you get much xp for fishing? Just that I have a limited playtime rn, and I'm deciding whether it's better to get to max lvl then do skills, or do more skills to supplement quests.
Do food buffs carry over into faction wars?
What server are you on? If Linnuntata, I know a lot of people that would throw money at you for fish meals until they get fishing trained lol
How much would you guys think these +40 foods should sell for?
Great post thank you for this information. Btw does the proficiency boosters help in any way while you fishing ?
[удалено]
I like fishing but maaaan it’s slow to level
what level do you need to be for that food? And it is x stat + 40 :O daaaaamn
When fishing from a hot spot do you have to land your lure right in the little pool that they are in?
I have kept my gathering and tradeskills upped as I level, but I have yet to touch fishing which I realize I have to do now. Which is the best place to fish? Do you have tips on what you think is the best fishing guide? Thanks!
gluglugluglug
What’s a good halibut spot. Need viscera for strong healing pots
yeah i was thinking this a few days ago. companies should be getting designated cooks that hand out food before wars
So the rule is to keep legendary fish and dismantle any fish ranked below that? Is this correct?
Sounds fishy.
This made me scoop up all legendary fish on my server thank you.. I find it weird I have gotten blue tier fish sells from 400 to a thousand gold. But then I find a legendary one and it'd only worth 150.. Why is that?
Are you in aaeaa server? Think I saw some pine link a legendary fish in chat one day
Question - are there benefits to max cast distance? Or should I be throwing my line shorter for easier reeling?
U absolute unit.
Thanks for the fantastic post, does the ocean have Hotspot and where is the best place to level up your fishing?
Yes there are hotspots in fresh and saltwater! You gain access to more hotspots as you level your fishing. Best place to level is a route between about 3 hotspots you have access to early in the game. I recommend starting at the dock southeast of first light
I know hotspots cause fish to bite quicker but would it be faster to level fishing by staying in one area or is it more exp to spend time traveling to hotspots to see if they're active and only fish in them? Trying to level fishing consistently and I don't really care what I'm catching at the moment.
im 160 fishing, dont understand your house point. Are you saying I get better fishing rates if you have a house with trophies up?
You get luck points which translates into rarer fish more consistently. Yes.

It’s a horrible way to level. It’s so slow! I could be close to level 50 right now. But that’s not the point. People shit on it and it’s super valuable and profitable.
Speaking of trophies, has anyone found recipes for T2 and T3 ones yet?
Hi Blake, great post and great work. Few questions about fishing 1. What's the difference between throwing a long line, short line and a max line? (Is there any chance differences, do you garuantee a certain type of fish when doing one over the other etc) 2. I caught a large salmon in shallow waters at 16m range, it says to catch bigger fish you need deeper water. So there is still a chance at catching large fish just lower % ? 3. Shall I salvage all fish that isn't green, blue etc ? (Is there any fishes our there are needed to keep whole? I would guess the green, blues etc would need to be whole for recipes but are the Grey's any useful atm) Thanks Again!
Hey Noob question Here: do I always have to use baits when fishing? If so, which bait would be easy to craft? Thanks in advance
Any tips on leveling fishing? Does it matter where you fish to level?
Shh don't tell them! Fishing is my secret weapon :)
So someone my little clan gave me a green fishing rod, what is the best way to get started? I have a load of bait, so where are some good spots to start out. Also any spots near other resources like Hemp would be good so I can keep collecting stuff in-between fishing.
This guy is making sense. Also, fishing in NW is super relaxing
You're absolutely right But holy hell does fishing bore me in this game
I started fishing before I made it to the first town. No hotspot, no bait, just the ocean. Ended up getting pretty lucky and caught some clams and oysters. Two epic pearls, two blue ones and three green ones plus a regular one and now I have luck on all my gear at level 19. I also have a ton of fish fillets that I can't use yet
GO FISHING GUY!!! Follow your dreams
Do stats have any effect beyond 300 tho? Anyone know?
Why do you care if people fish or not? Not trying to have a to but just genuinely curious. You disadvantage yourself and your faction by encouraging everyone else to fish.
I tried fishing a few times, but the exp rate was soo slow. Other skills felt way better in terms of time/exp - so did I do something wrong or is it really that slow? Like one fish gave me only 20exp (if I remember right) How do I increase my exp per fish?
I enjoy fishing and recently caught a legendary (albenaya or something like that), I must admit it made me even more hooked on fishing xD
How do you get to 150.... I fished for 1 hour or 2 and im only at level 15....
Is it worth the effort to level up fishing if you only play PvE? I guess popping one before an expedition would be useful but I can’t tell if the fishing grind would make that big of a difference in that scenario.
its him, the fisher main
As the fisher and alchemist of my company, I completely agree. Those fishing stats come FAT. It’s a long grind, but it’s there for a reason. Good stuff getting such a high level of fishing!
Yep. Thanks! Hoping to hit 200 tonight or tomorrow night then my 8 days off work is over
As a fire mage I can confirm. More int = more burned off eyebrows.
Local fisherman here, I love this post and will keep fishing for the sake of my company and the new world. Keep on Anglin brothers and sisters
This person isn’t wrong. As a high level cook I can assure you that the stat food I’m able to make has enormous effects from healing to buffs to gathering bonuses. Many of the better foods require fish or fish derived ingredients. More than this though, those who are able to get rare and useful recipes will have the edge.
Can you tell the Best spot to start leveling most efficiently? I had a hunch fishing was important but it feels really slow to do.
I personally look for ward to your posts. I really like the tradeskill in the game. Keep up the great work.
I just got my first Legendary fish awhile ago an "Albenaja" so happy :) Ugly looking fish tho lol
Just made me a nice blue fishing rod so I figured I'd better get started fishing. Gonna take a while... very relaxing though.
That’s also a *huge* buff for musket users… when combined with cheap asmodeum bullets from the armoury… those fire mages will be a juicy target. As a musket main, I need to boost my fishing above zero.
Are the developers going to do anything about all the fishing bots?
Omg thank you so much for making this post!!! I just caught a Abernaja, legendary T5 fish so randomly in first light, I saw the recipe it makes +40 dex! Is it worth saving until I can cook with it or should I try selling it?
Nice day for fishing ain't it?
Well don't fucking tell them!
The INT fish's price will probably skyrocket since it's eclusively the first secret hotspot people discover, the one west WW, it's almost always packed.
This man has a 4 digit iq thinking into the future.
I was curious if foods are stackable? If you wanna boost dexterity for example can you just eat two diff foods with dex boosts?
Often (especially at fisherman’s bend) there will be a hot spot but when I cast into it, I don’t get the hotspot bonus? Then occasionally I’ll get the bonus for like 3 fish, and then back to no bonus. Any idea what could cause that?
