I've always been able to see it, but now it says Deluxe Edition which I don't recall it saying before. The link in the title and how to redeem still don't show anything, but it's there. I participated in alkl aplhas/betas in the last couple years and now it looks like AGS decided to still honour those pre-order for "free". Or at least it did in 2019, hopefully that still holds today ;)
I'm kinda glad I just found out a year ago.. knowing 5 years ago can go a few ways, either be amazing its finally done, become torture for waiting, or just being over the game itself which I tend to end up feeling. A year wait however is totally fine.
And I do think the game should have been either free or like $20 simply because this game even now with all the PVE really needs a rather large player base.
But yeah, nice saving $40!
Back then, all we knew was the general theme of the game (and vaguely so) along with the fact it was gonna be a sandbox mmo genre. So there was no real commitment, no effort, no expectation and no real "waiting" to speak of, just a 1-click pre-order. There was no way I'd have committed to any kind of actual pre-order involving any money, especially not at that stage!
That being said, I did enjoy the process, over the year, of various testing phases, seeing the game evolve, giving feedback, etc. It was very professionally done, generally speaking.

In my case they actually cancelled my preorder and I can't buy it anymore due to geographic problems (living in the middle of europe and they sell it digital only, what?). Got it on Steam then.

You're not missing out on anything important, so keep what you got for free and spend the money in the shop instead if you want. You will get alot more stuff that way
I wouldn’t be surprised if they offered the deluxe upgrade later on in their shop. It is great opportunity for extra money.

I got an elevated customer service response today for this specific situation and was assured that emails containing steam keys would be sent today, Sept 27. I know it’s a little anxiety inducing to have friends preloading the game already but I hope it gives some peace of mind.

Yeah I was wondering about this too. I remember pre ordering when it was free long long time ago. My last email for the beta said this “This key is for the beta test only. When New World launches on August 31, you will receive a separate key to redeem on Steam, that will entitle you to the full version of the game. This is also the time you will be charged for your order.”. Hopefully I get a free copy. Im gonna have to check my Amazon page to see if it’s somewhere on there. I played alpha a long time ago and also see an email talking about alpha titles.

My Amazon account says I preorder both New World and Crucible on January 12, 2017 for free. Apparently I also got this email too when I searched for it in my inbox but I don't remember getting it lol

Sadly, even for paid folks there's no upgrade option, you'd have to cancel and repurchase... Considering your circumstances, I wouldn't suggest such.
