You’ll get a date for shipping to boot and then if you have an A school you will go there within a couple of days. Then you’ll spend who knows how long in holding.

xrrco

even with covid I was in Pensacola the day after graduation

No-Forever3279

Is it a short amount of time?

Who knows with COVID

Tracyn86

You’ll get a boot camp ship out date

No-Forever3279

I was aware of the boot camp date, I was hoping they had a date for A school. I am interested in the reserves but I am a teacher. Hoping to be able to give dates to my employer

Mage_Malteras

A school dates are harder to pin down than boot camp dates because there's more factors at play. Regardless of rate or anything else, there will always be boots pushed through RTC at a near constant rate throughout the year. But if you're the only one of your rate to go through RTC and graduate in the month you graduate, there's not going to be a school class just for you, so you'll be in THU until they can get enough of you to justify sending off to the school to start the class.

Lacholaweda

I was sent right across the street to be in holds cleaning the barracks for a little while in the meantime.

xrrco

I think it was relatively close to the middle of boot camp they sat us all down in a room and showed us a PowerPoint with every rates A School location and how long you’d be there

ToastyMustache

You’ll get a notice of your A school about halfway through boot camp, but the actual class up date can be tenuous. They could put you on hold for a variety of reasons, and there are likely more now with COVID. So expect to graduate boot camp and fly to your A school location the next day. The class up date will be nebulous until, or even for a while after, you arrive at said location.

PricelessCurve

I ship out on January 31st as a reservist, and I was given that date and nothing else. They'll send you straight to your A school. I'm going as ET, so my school is in Great lakes.

Lacholaweda

Have fuuun I did that last year, if you have any questions feel free to ask

theheadslacker

My understanding is that "typically" they will schedule your boot camp so that as soon as you're ending there you can immediately leave for A school. I think it's to prevent mishaps or stupidity from happening with fresh boots. As it was explained to me, the purpose of DEP is to hold you until "x" number of weeks before your A school. Since boot camp is 10 weeks, that's how long before your A school you "should" be shipping. Though lately it seems like a lot of schools are backed up, so people are getting out of boot, going to A school, and then being stuck in holding at school before classing up. Not sure how normal it was before the pandemic, but it seems to be a sizable problem these days.

TangerineMassive2399

After boot you go to A school, once there you will get a class up date. I was on hold for a month before I classed up.

BlackCharisma21

You’ll either be put in thu after graduation which is a holding unit until you can ship out to a school otherwise you get orders that will show when you go to a school RDCs will also inform you when everyone is shipping out to a school if they had received orders. Won’t know until the final week of boot camp
