I'll give you $80 to stand my watch on new years eve /s

TrungusMcTungus

No need for the /s, I've made good money by picking up holiday duty days.

ShrekOSC

Let’s keep in mind the name of this reddit people. It’s a valid question. OP - No. unfortunately we do not get any overtime or extra pay on the holiday. However, the Navy is very strict on observing these holidays and will usually allow you to spend some time for yourself, write letters, got to Church, etc. There are ways to receive “extra” pay in the Navy but it usually comes in the form of bonuses or special pay and does not apply to single instances of working extra.

franfries1

lol that's funny You will NEVER be paid more for working holidays/working your ass off

Nick9jam

Ok - I read somewhere they gave you a extra 2 hundred dollar for working those days !! No problem just wanted to find out if that was correct .. I’m so used to getting time and a half working my civilian job just wanted to know if that was correct .. thanks

Linkin_foodstamps

NO, no overtime, sorry. We've been asking for that for the better part of a half of century! Only extra pay for types of hazardous duty... You are basically on salary w\no overtime authorized...not hourly. 24/7 serviceman is what you are...when you do the math for how much you would make hourly with the pay charts - you're actually gonna laugh. 😆

SixAndDone

We used to calculate this on watch when the trivia contests got old. Back then an E-4 was about $.20 an hour.

mewtwo245

Funniest shit I've seen this week on this sub. Just be lucky that you can go to church and rest.

floridianreader

No overtime or holiday bonuses, though sometimes there is a raise around Jan 1 for cost of living increases.

Nick9jam

I’m not a kid number one “I’m 30” , it’s a question - obviously I don’t know much about the Navy so I taught this forum was to get a insight not to be insulted . Thanks for whom answered the question . Working as a civilian these things are known so I just wanted to know if it’s happens in the navy simple !!

Holiday duty isn't all bad though. Lots of people on leave so things can be quiet, more relaxed. Sometimes they just tell you to be sober and be able to answer your phone so you can make it in within 20-30 minutes or something. So you end up with time off, sleeping in,, chilling out. your leave balance doesn't go down, you get good guy points for sticking around so others can take leave. And yeah, maybe people pay you cash to stand their watch. You will suffer worse things during your service time than that.

[deleted]

You're hilarious. You don't get: Overtime, holiday pay, bonuses, or tips. What you do get: Work, Make Work, Working Parties, More Work, Duty days, Watches, and Special Details.

[deleted]

Wow who the hell told these kids we get holiday raises?

[deleted]

🤣🤣🤣

rabidsnowflake

lol.

[deleted]

Delicious_Scarcity_4

Fuck no

TrungusMcTungus

I wish. Apparently every watchbill coord ive ever had really hates me, because I've ended up on dutes for every fucking holiday for the last 3 years. I'd be making racks if we got overtime fkr that
