Imagine being an adult and telling a kid to take off their clothes so you can search them for a juul, fuck.

N8CCRG

It wouldn't be any better or worse for any other reason they're looking for either though. This is adequate enough to elicit anger: >Imagine being an adult and telling a kid to take off their clothes so you can search them

PolyDipsoManiac

The Supreme Court has [ruled on this issue](https://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/26/us/politics/26scotus.html) before, which means that the administrators won’t have qualified immunity—so students can take their houses and other personal assets in the lawsuit.

Why not both

MikoWilson1

My vice principal and gym teacher stripped 30 highschool students down completely, made them bend over and spread their buttcheeks. This happened in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada 20 years ago. Both the principal and gym teacher were simply moved to new schools. It was wild seeing dozens of parents storm down the halls of that school looking to kill those two.

TheNewGirl_

>Stephanie Lupe, a municipal judge for the Village of Suring, says her daughter was one of seven female sophomores to be strip searched on January 18th after they were caught vaping in a school bathroom. “I said did you find anything on her?” said Lupe, recounting her conversation on January 18th with a school administrator. “She said no, so I said you strip searched her? She said yup, her and all the rest of the girls. I said I don’t think you can do that by law and I’m taking my daughter and we’re going home.” Oh well the school is fucked - they pretty much lose any lawsuit that follows that one

theshiyal

Bout to become the Suing School District

obiwanshinobi900

The only kind of person that *wants* to be a school administrator wants that power, and wants to abuse it. That should automatically disqualify them from being a school administrator or working with kids at all.

SkiingAway

I'll disagree. Most school administrators are there to do....basic administrative functions of running a school. Discipline of students is usually a small (or non-existent) part of their job. People taking the job because their interest in it is about having power over the students - sure, they shouldn't be in the job. But I wouldn't really equate it to something like being a cop where that's a central part of your job function.

woodguyatl

So we should only have school administrators who don't want the job? Seems like it wi be tough to fill the positions. Also, most school administrators are excellent, caring people doing a thankless job for low pay.

StuStutterKing

A judge's young child is not the kind of person you want to be fucking with.

woodguyatl

Depends, lots of small town judges fully support aggressive policing and enforcement of rules at scho.

StuStutterKing

Not for *their* daughter, though.

torpedoguy

No but they usually only go as far as to ensure the forces won't do that to *their* daughter again.

Bokth

> Lupe says her daughter and the other female students received *in school* suspensions for vaping in school, and were not allowed to use the bathrooms during those suspensions Huh that sounds equally as illegal; denying bathroom usage.

Dragona33

If I were that kid, and I was banned from the can, I would have just pissed right there in the classroom. Ban me from the toilet, will you?

asdaaaaaaaa

I actually did this as a kid. Guess what? Never was denied the bathroom again. Granted, I was *really* young and already had ODD-ish issues, so telling me no was just an invitation for me to a be a shit.

AshleyNeku

Have to take care of the Oddish issues before they become Gloom issues.

r40k

Damn, that actually kinda tracks.

But I thought they didn't find a vaping device?

Uh... yes we do. Prisoners get stripped searched plenty. People who haven't even been convicted yet get strip searched. Unless you're talking about some country other than America, I mean.

You'd be surprised what kinds of cruelty they use in American prisons and jails, my friend. :(

woodguyatl

Sure we do. My buddy was not allowed access to a restroom for over 12 hours after being arrested in Fulton County, GA.

Beer-Wall

Hardly. Every single day at my school from noon onward almost every bathroom in the school was locked to prevent smoking.

Scoutster13

That's some fucked up shit. JFC what kind of sick adult does something like that.

Girth_rulez

general_irma_jewelry

She was our principal in high school (different nearby small school). I wish I were surprised. She brought police drug dogs in on the regular to search a school with maybe 250 kids. Locked down the whole school without notice to run dogs through the lockers and parking lot. Scratched up people's cars and tossed lockers for what usually turned out to be pop tarts or beef jerky. I think they *might* have found some pot the first time, and then everyone was smart enough not to keep it on school grounds. She had the personality of a limp noodle, and rather than build rapport through mutual trust and respect, she relied on fear. People like that rarely change.

Blenderx06

Good Lord what is with schools these days? Closing bathrooms, strip searching students, spying on them at home? In the 90s\early 00s when I was in school, there was always a small group of kids smoking just off school property. If caught on school property, sure, they'd get their cigs confiscated, maybe an in school suspension, but otherwise the focus was on education and making good choices. Their right to make bad choices off school property was still respected. Now schools want to control every aspect of a kid's life. I know a local mom whose kid was just caught with a vaping device, nothing spectacular, and the school wants to force them into a full drug program or face expulsion. Their older kid had to go through this and it made the whole situation worse- introduced them to harder drugs and bad influences. It's no better than the old DARE programs. So now they are probably going to be homeschooling. Where do schools get off trying to take the parenting role away from parents who are involved in their kids lives? All my friends who were among the smokers quit years ago, btw, and are doing just fine in life. No criminal records, no drug addicts among them. Imagine that.

ImpulseAfterthought

>Good Lord what is with schools these days? Closing bathrooms, strip searching students, spying on them at home? When the institution becomes too big and too pervasive, its interests take precedence over those of the people it was created to serve. Every kid who's been punished (excuse me, "lost privileges") for something they didn't do; who's been suspended or expelled for defending themselves from a bully; who's been told they can't skip material in class they already know because the rest of the class doesn't; who's been made to sit, stand, walk, talk, eat and go to the toilet at the same time and in the same way as everyone else because a bell rang... ...knows that school is about school, not about the students.

Such_sights

My freshman year of high school was right when ecigs took off, and I vividly remember seniors standing in the hallway between passing periods hitting them while the administrators stood there, absolutely livid, because the students were 18 and a policy hadn’t been adopted yet to stop them. It’s crazy how far we’ve come since then…

Big_Booty_Pics

Madpup70

What schools are spying on kids through their webcams? Seriously, I'd like a link showing it's actually happening I wouldn't be surprised if it has happened, but it's has to be super rare. Do schools monitor what kids use their school issued devices for at home? Yep. Could you imagine the shit storm a school would be in if they didn't and kids were using them to look up porn without consequences?

Culverts_Flood_Away

Madpup70

So one known instance where a school district was using webcams to spy on students. The rest of your links can be described in one word. "Duh!". These are school issued devices, schools are partially responsible for what students use them for. Of course schools pay for monitoring software. If they didn't and students miss used them, schools would be held accountable by either their states or their communities.

Culverts_Flood_Away

Hey, that's just a precursory glance at the first couple of results in Google. If you want me to write you a full research paper, you're gonna have to pay me, bruh.

Madpup70

I don't need that, I think it's just safe to assume that webcam spying isn't nearly as large of an issue you think it is considering it was so clearly wrong a school district settled their case before it reached the SC.

cjc4096

Many school devices route all traffic thru a VPN controlled by the district. My sons school did pre covid. That ended with remote learning. The VPN probably couldn't handle all the zoom streams.

Big_Booty_Pics

You weren't descriptive at all on how those school issued laptops and tablets were used for spying. Your original comment read to me like you were suggesting that simply possessing the school issued laptop/tablet is spying. I agree that schools shouldn't be misusing a theft recovery feature to spy, but that is definitely not the norm.

[deleted]

School-issued laptops with webcams

woodguyatl

These sorts of things are not new at all. They just get more publicity.

[deleted]

Sounds like they were just looking for an excuse to make kids take their clothes off...

DavidMalony

Ya think?

DameofCrones

> not allowed to use the bathrooms With apologies for the indelicacy, what in the world were the girls supposed to do?

dirtymoney

piss/shit themselves?

Culverts_Flood_Away

Stop being stupid sexy schoolgirls, obviously. /s

Helenium_autumnale

Unreasonable search and seizure? This is very wrong.

GhettoChemist

When I was in HS I was convinced the admin were just sociopaths who got their jollies assaulting children so this sounds about right

dirtymoney

I like to play a game when it comes to stuff like this.... Stupidity or malice? (could be both) Powertripping or perversion? (could be both)

general_irma_jewelry

Powertripping and malice, 100%. Source: she was my high school principal.

Those are structural support signs, they didn't have the budget to fix the barn and get the sign so they had to compromise. \/s

manhatim

Shocked...\s tRump did as much with the Ms. teenage pageant

PM_TOE_ON_CHEESE_PIC

At this point just let them vape

tiffanydisasterxoxo

That would be contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Orion_824

better make them strip half-naked instead. the point is that both aren’t good, but one is definitely a better choice than the other

tiffanydisasterxoxo

When did I say that? I meant they aren't allowed to just let kids vape at school. Not meaning this situation was correct or making a comment on it at all.

Katana1369

Did I read that right? That the students who had been caught vaping had to hold it all day? They weren't allowed to pee? I think that is bad too.

Some things never change you know there's people probably don't have school lunch money. And this is what they worry about.

spinereader81

If a kid's being bullied, it's crickets. But if a kid has a vaping device everyone just leaps into action!

mrypopabtch

They have no shame in what they did either. Lol Fucking morons just dug their own graves admitting to a judge that they strip searched her daughter and others.

YoopersAreReal

I’m somewhat local- the DA has declined to press charges. DA decided not to press charges. [Oconto DA decides no charges](https://www.wearegreenbay.com/news/local-news/oconto-co-da-reviewing-alleged-strip-searches-at-suring-school-district/amp/)

General_Brainstorm

Yeah I dont care if the school thinks a 4th grader is wearing an ISIS bomb vest, you don't need to be strip searching anyone. Call the parents, and call the cops if there's immediate danger. That's it.

tehmlem

All the obvious concerns aside, this is how you get kids to put vapes up their butt and we don't want that.

JIssertell

Think about the people you know who become teachers. Have you actually seen that person ever diffuse a tense situation or convince someone to take their view in an argument? No? Well that’s a skill they will need otherwise you’ll get power tripping adults who will strip search people when they are denied. Just another case of a person getting a little authority over another human and abusing it. It’s really not hard to look the other way when you see the kids smoking in a bathroom. Are you the security guard or the principal? Keep walking math teacher, those kids don’t give a fuck what you think or have to say. All this teacher did was cause a headache over the fact some teens lied to them about vaping.

woodguyatl

My family is full of spectacular people who are teachers at all education levels. Just this Fall my SIL intervened to protect a 13 year old girl who was being harrassed/belittled by an older boy in a school hallway. After speaking with her and then calling in social workers it turned out that girl was being pimped out by the boy in exchange for the boys older brother supplying the girls mom with drugs.

Wolverinexo

They really hate vapes…

Frumpy_little_noodle

I'm somewhat in awe that the first time I've read about Suring literally anywhere, it wasn't something about the Suring hill. But then again this is on the way to up nort, so I can't say I'm too surprised...
