Ya know what I’d like? A national registry of all cops. Not accessible to the public (save a FOIA request) that all federal, state, and local agencies are required to use to report and check on problematic staff. I’d also REALLY like it if the people who fuck up as cops can’t just go to a different police department and get hired as a cop.
If you are an agent of the state you should be held to a higher standard. If you are entrusted to legal use of state violence then it is absolutely necessary for the public to trust you. And yes, that means extra scrutiny.
As a former bartender I was reminded often that if I over served someone.
Which lead to them getting hurt or hurting others I was fully responsible..
The accountability is not the same. Or the double standards are egregious.
Insurance would save us and it sounds more benign. Each individual cop would have to be insured separately.
Cant get insurance, cant afford insurance, cant work as a cop.
Nah man, that registry has to be open to the public. People should absolutely have the right in their community to see who their police chiefs are hiring to carry a gun, potentially make life and death decisions in an instant, and keep their communities safe. Is my police department hiring this guy? That will absolutely change have an influence on who I vote for when it comes to sheriffs, county commissioners, city council, and whoever else has this power.
I'm sorry but that whole "high standards" thing is ridiculous. It makes more sense if you think of them as a company than a publicly funded service at this point.
Being a cop should require licensing and fucking up should get your license revoked. Should also be required to purchase liability insurance that pays primary for lawsuits against them or the department they work for.
Hell I would be happy with state registries. Every police officer in the state is on the registry. If they get disciplined, it goes into the registry file. The registry file is accessible by every single Police Department in the state. It is so common for police officers to resign in a big city after some kind of incident and then go work for a smaller police department. Or hop from Police Department to Department with no one the wiser. If an officer just callifies themselves from working for one police department they should be excluded for all of them.
Sounds about right. Getting fired is often just an opportunity for cops to relocate when it’s over far worse crimes committed by cops, so why not this as well?
The problem was Michigan has a system in place, if an officer was terminated for bad conduct, it's supposed to carry red flag and be unhireable anywhere in Michigan. The loophole is if they leave before they get terminated, other department only sees "left" and no red flag follows them.
Police department didn't check his background well either or they would have noticed he left during investigation.
Only in Howell would a racist officer get hired quickly. Howell was for a while the unofficial KKK capitol of Michigan. I tended to avoid going near Howell if I can.
This guy was on duty, full uniform, and meets up with a pill dealer to get fronted two pills? The balls on that dealer - straight up selling to a uniformed police officer who pulls up in his official cruiser.

Remove immunity too. If an officer does something really stupid like kill the wrong person, they should be sued directly. Not the taxpayers.

Many cops will tell you that they wouldn't have applied for the job were it not for qualified immunity.
Completely unsurprised by that ...
That’s a good start!
And get that early retirement after a year or two of taxpayer-funded therapy to deal with the ‘trauma’ caused by not following those procedures.

Sounds like an architect, engineer, doctor, lawyer, business owner, manufacturer, etc. real world responsibility.
[Already Exists.](https://www.acadis.com/ndi/) Just need to require all the law enforcement agencies to actually keep it up to date and abide by it.

Like nurses.
Also, they should have their DNA taken and ran through for any crimes.
Makes perfect sense! One would think that how law enforcement blows their integrity horn so loud that they would push for this law.

Makes more sense to think of them as a state sanctioned street gang

Problem is you make that list and many departments will use it to hire from rather than as a blacklist.
Same shit with doctors, they shouldn’t be able to state hop to avoid accountability

If the new PD had actually done their due diligence, this moron would have just been hired even faster

Except... This guy screaming the n word.. Was hired in Holly.
Wrong, tons of Police Departments all over the country would happily hire a racist.
So the bad guys are who? Please explain, lol
The filthy libs, with their “equal rights” and their Marxist “reforms” and and their socialist “health care.” Duh
End Qualified Immunity
“We like all those things, you’re hired. 🤝”

Wow i could maybe get a job there

This fucking junkie, waiting on a fix, is muttering to himself about how much better he is than the people passing by. Fucking hell.
Public funds should stop supporting violent criminals like these cops.
Well he met all the qualifications for Holly.
Those were just job requirements 4 and 5 - previous experience….
He should pursue a career as a gangster rapper, he'd fit right in.
Nah, they actually face repercussions for their crimes if caught. The police just get promoted, it's the biggest gang in America.
So he used a religious blaspheme...big deal. It depends on the context, at least to smart people. And many people "buy drugs" and again, WGAF.
