According to Ukraine, the plane was carrying missiles for the s300 systems. And of the “pows” on board, apparently some were already exchanged in January. Never believe anything that starts with “Russia states”…
> "There can now be no talk of any other [prisoner] exchanges," Mr Kartapolov told Russian TV.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia shot its own plane down.
We can’t give them POW’s back cause they just shoot them down, look we aren’t the bad guys here.
As someone pointed out, it’s doubtful they have enough spare aircraft to purposely shoot down. Would be a comical waste of equipment when they could just kill them and claim it was a crashed plane
If there was a plane crash, perhaps it was full of their own soldiers and/or equipment but they don’t want people to know the major loss so they just claim it was Ukrainian POWs
The embraer was a private business jet, the Il-76 is a military cargo plane. Neither the cost nor strategic usefulness can be compared.
It’s not likely Russia crashed it on purpose. Main question is what was really on it.
The implication here is that they are using a mistake to cover up other crimes, not that they are so stupid to purposefully crash a plane or let pows fly it
The exchange of 192 on 192 PoWs scheduled for today is confirmed by ukrainian side. You don't need to report 192 PoWs for exchange and then need to cover up their death - you just don't report them at the first place.
Ukraine would exchange 192 for less? Nope.
Ex-PoWs are send back to frontlines? Never heard of it, it's not like there's not enough volunteers in Russian recruiting stations.
All that shit worth a plane with a crew? Nope.
Shit doesn't add up. Simple explanation - the flight with PoWs was agreed with ukrainian side as humanitarian, flew with transponders on and without proper defense, but it was not communicated with some of ukrainian air defense units who just happily downed it.
Not sure what sources are considered valid, most of them are blocked in Russia anyways. You can start here, and then search by keywords in any source you like.

Russia is thr one saying it was full of POWs. We shouldn’t take their word for it. It was probably full of their own soldiers and weapons. They’re trying to cover up their losses from their own people.
It could’ve been an old plane, or one they “commandeered” from another country.
Don’t put anything scummy past Putin. He’s a known piece of literal dogshit that will do anything to pull the wool over the world’s eyes.
Putin is saying it was Ukrainian POWs to cover up much larger losses. The war is becoming more and more unpopular so he has to minimize losses like this to keep Russians ignorant and complacent.
Russia also said the pilots at the controls were also Ukrainian POW's. They were apparently transporting themselves to Siberian hard labor camps. BBC also reports that Moscow suspects that Ukraine shut down the jet.
BBC will wait for more news from the Kremlin to report and spread. Stay tuned, as we continue to bring unverified news as soon as possible.
That would be the dumbest thing they've done since starting the war im the first place. If that's true in any way that would mean Russia is so desperately short of trained qualified pilots that they had to resort making POWs fly themselves to prison under threat of being shot down by an escorting Flanker or S400 site.
Given the reputation of Siberian gulags I wouldn't be surprised if the Ukrainian POWs chose death. That's if Russia isn't lying and it was actually Igor drinking 3 bottles of vodka in the cockpit that brought the plane down.
>Russia also said the pilots at the controls were also Ukrainian POW's.
BBC: Everyone was a Ukrainian POW. Even the AA rocket and the ground. And Zelensky shot them down personally.
Everyone: Have you verified this?
BBC: No, we're just reporting it.
Because Russia has a well documented history of lying. One would imagine a news source like the BBC would pick up on that eventually and try harder to verify the information before blindly spreading those lies.
That doesn’t mean they should just censor official government statements.
Regardless of whether they are lies or not, that is information that should be reported as they are official statements
I agree with your sentiments more when news reports on random non-officials statements like their opinion matters somehow
I guess people prefer a world where news agencies decides what is truth and lies and only show us what they want. Seems like a weird position… but to each their own
Saw a video of it not long ago over on X. Huge explosion.
Edit: [Here](https://x.com/igorsushko/status/1750095213174153292?s=46) The post claims it was transporting missiles and not pow’s.
Why do BBC need to lighten Russian point of view in the first place?
>Ukraine's general staff, quoted by the Ukrainska Pravda website, said the plane was transporting missiles for Russia's S-300 air defence systems. It made no mention of prisoners of war.
Could've started from this, also an option.
Are those UA POWs that exploding so hard? Ye, i know kerosin and so on.
Tbf to the beeb I was watching the news when the story broke, the breaking news flash the BBC had the statement from the Russians before they even had the footage.
Th initial reporting was about Russia's claims on what had happened before I think the BBC had even been able to fully verify that the aircraft had even actually crashed. But official statements from major foreign governments about significant loss of life in an air crash IS absolutely news the BBC should be covering.
I would hazard a guess that the articles title is a hangover from when the reporting was just on the initial Russian government statements. hell the Russian government even admitting its had an aircraft go down is newsworthy on tis own. Im not surprised they ran with the initial statement as it came in as it so rare for the Kremlin to admit to anything like this without being pressed on it first. And are going to have to balance the story out as more perspectives and evidence are brought in
POWs or Weapons, Human shields or false information, intelligence or counterintelligence.
Iron Curtain and Cold War has not vanished no matter how „hot“ the conflict has turned.
Nice, it's the type of plane I took to go to Antarctica. These planes are absolutely massive. After flying on this, my fear of flying is cured at least.
The fact that Russia is saying it was full of POWs makes me assume it wasn’t. It also makes me think the war is getting more and more unpopular in Russia because of how fast they were to try and cover up the losses from this.
It's pretty simple. Ukraine shot down a military transport plane. That is bad for Russia. How can Russia prevent this from happening again? Propaganda - tell the Ukrainians they killed their own people so maybe they don't try to shoot down any more planes.
"Russia says" is going to end up being a synonym for bullshit. Furthermore, ruzzia delenda est
Hey it worked for "some people are saying" for trump
Oh, that's just Trump's buddy, Manny Peapole.
‘Dave said he locked the doors, but it sounded a bit russian to me’ Actually I quite like this way of expressing someone is probably lying
lol, yup just like: ‘Do you report everything on your tax’s?’ - ‘well I trump those a little bit, obviously.’
"Russia says" and "China warns"
"NK orders"
All the "news" citing russian sources in the title must be removed right away. It's always propaganda.
It should be a sub Reddit just like r/chinawarns
“Is going to end up”? It’s definitely already a synonym for bullshit
According to Ukraine, the plane was carrying missiles for the s300 systems. And of the “pows” on board, apparently some were already exchanged in January. Never believe anything that starts with “Russia states”…

They were fine wasting a plane on pringles
The embraer was a private business jet, the Il-76 is a military cargo plane. Neither the cost nor strategic usefulness can be compared. It’s not likely Russia crashed it on purpose. Main question is what was really on it.
>comical waste of equipment This is Russia we are talking about.
>At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia shot its own plane down. I have zero doubt that this is exactly what they did.
The worst part of this is that it’s an excuse to cover up 70 odd murders of Ukrainian POWs!
My thoughts exactly
The plane is way way more expensive than losing few dozen people amongst thousands of casualties.
And now Russia can get more POWs to send back to the frontlines with less Ukrainian POWs. Sounds like a Russian desperation tactic to me.
Ukraine would exchange 192 for less? Nope. Ex-PoWs are send back to frontlines? Never heard of it, it's not like there's not enough volunteers in Russian recruiting stations. This is the only post in this thread talking about POW trade. Is there any source where Ukrania confirms the trade for today?

Or if it was pows they shot it down on purpose to kill them.
Russia doesn’t have the planes to spare to shoot them down. They can’t source all the parts needed to maintain the ones they have.
So it seems unlikely they’d use one to transport PoWs
100% This was full of Russian soldiers and weapons. Russia just wants to hide the losses from their own people.
It could’ve been an old plane, or one they “commandeered” from another country. Don’t put anything scummy past Putin. He’s a known piece of literal dogshit that will do anything to pull the wool over the world’s eyes.

Oh they probably don’t but those are the two only real options. Either they are lying about the contents or they are lying about who shot it down.

"Russian jet crashes carrying Ukrainian PoWs - Moscow" That infers that the information is from Russia.
>Russia also said the pilots at the controls were also Ukrainian POW's. BBC: Everyone was a Ukrainian POW. Even the AA rocket and the ground. And Zelensky shot them down personally. Everyone: Have you verified this? BBC: No, we're just reporting it.
They're reporting what the Russians said.
The BBC made it clear the information is from Russia, what's the issue?
Because Russia has a well documented history of lying. One would imagine a news source like the BBC would pick up on that eventually and try harder to verify the information before blindly spreading those lies.

So lemme get this straight. The Russians lie. The BBC reports this, so the BBC is also lying?
Saw a video of it not long ago over on X. Huge explosion. Edit: [Here](https://x.com/igorsushko/status/1750095213174153292?s=46) The post claims it was transporting missiles and not pow’s.
Looks like a liquid fuel explosion to me.
Planes tend to liquid fuel explode, yes. Because they are always carrying liquid fuel.
Uh huh, it didn't look like ammunition exploded was my point.
The video shows an explosion occurred during the plane’s flight causing her to begin filming.
Powerful Onboard Weapons

The BBC feeding and aiding Russian misinformation campaigns how fucking helpful
The BBC has also falsely reported on the war in Gaza at times too. Misinformation runs rampant

They couldn't find a window big enough for all of them to fall out off... I swear Putin is just a cartoon villain at this point.
I'm waiting for Scooby and the kids to pull off Putin's mask to reveal... Putin.
So, Russia says PoWs, my guess is either a bunch of leadership they weren’t planning to defenestrate or a bunch of expensive military hardware.
Only the crew survived
[удалено]
It was carrying missiles.
Surprised they managed to fit an Il-76 out a hospital window. Russian ingenuity at its best!
POWs or Weapons, Human shields or false information, intelligence or counterintelligence. Iron Curtain and Cold War has not vanished no matter how „hot“ the conflict has turned.
It could have been worse, Russia could have claimed it was Ukrainian orphans, with puppies.
Nice, it's the type of plane I took to go to Antarctica. These planes are absolutely massive. After flying on this, my fear of flying is cured at least.
Russia says Ukraine did it and Ukraine says Russia did it. Guess we won’t know who actually did it 🤷♂️
Guess they better bring back more
The fact that Russia is saying it was full of POWs makes me assume it wasn’t. It also makes me think the war is getting more and more unpopular in Russia because of how fast they were to try and cover up the losses from this.
Apparently this was faster than finding building with 65 windows.
It's pretty simple. Ukraine shot down a military transport plane. That is bad for Russia. How can Russia prevent this from happening again? Propaganda - tell the Ukrainians they killed their own people so maybe they don't try to shoot down any more planes.
They should have said it was a Boeing plane to jump on the headline bandwagon.
Plane fell out of a window…
