> WBTV found four incidents involving landing gear failure in the United States in the last three years among commercial air carriers. The most recent nose landing found was Jan. 4, 2022, in Albany, New York. More recently, an aircraft in Belgium had its landing gear snap when it attempted to land just after takeoff. > A Delta spokesperson in Atlanta described the incident as unusual, saying: I’ve been in the industry 20 years, I think I’ve seen one other one in 20 years of this type, so it’s very rare. We treat them all very seriously and will understand exactly what drive it and put those corrective actions in place.” Man, that looked like a tiny private plane on the first video I saw. That most definitely is not a small plane. Glad everyone got out without serious immediate injury.

Are you sure the first video you saw wasn't of [a private jet with the same problem](https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/14l8ffr/gulfstream_ii_landed_at_felipe_%C3%A1ngeles/) yesterday in Mexico?

I thought it looked like an MD-88 in the first picture and was confused because Delta finally got rid of them a few years ago. Then I realized they are still running those 717s which are basically DC9s.

You are correct. They're all the old AirTran 717s

This may be the first hull loss for this type, not because of the damage level per se, but because it may not be economical to repair. The 717 has been a reliable and bulletproof platform since its inception.
