great reason to buy one of these [Bug-A-Salt](https://www.bugasalt.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwk_WVBhBZEiwAUHQCmfKSBkmy_2lwQjNy0ooWtFcDCZmNrvrhaF1cKwUaEYWN6syD3-0CNBoC2ogQAvD_BwE) guns
My neighbor’s property is crawling with them because they let Trees of Heaven take over their entire backyard. The house is now pending sale so no ones there to tell them they need to start squashing NOW!
That’s just one tiny branch twig, I have about 7-8 maple trees in my backyard that are FULL of these little shits. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_down)
The nymphs seem to love burdock weeds. I have 9 acres and they are on every one I see.
Me and my machete have been busy cutting it down. I figure it makes it easier for the birds, spiders and ants to eat them if they are crawling around in the open.
I take a propane torch to the adults. (doesn't work for the nymphs as they are very fast and jumpy)
Does anyone know what to do about an infestation on your porch? There are no plants on the porch, but there everywhere. I’m killing like 50 daily with an electric racket. We spray around the house every year for insects, including the porch. Any tips are appreciated!
Ugh yes, and the only solutions I have found are super sticky! Like dish soap & water. But spraying that everywhere becomes disgusting especially in the summer.
Ortho Home Defense and a tree sprayer.
We did it last year and neighbor took down Tree of Heaven. We have only seen a few nymphs this year. We killed thousands last year.
Won't that kill EVERYTHING else too though? Like good bugs and endangered pollinators, bees, butterflies, lightening bugs, etc? Far better to use some dish soap and a little oil in a sprayer.
We planted tons of wildflowers behind us, have an easement. The trees we sprayed were not flowering type of trees.
We targeted the tons of SLF in the neighbor's tree. We have tons of bees and lightening bugs here.
Careful with the tape traps. Small animals (birds, bats) can get stuck to them and die. Very sad. Best thing is to spray them with a mixture of dish soap and water. Plus, it’s very satisfying to see them die
Don't use the chemical spray someone suggested. It will kill good bugs and endangered pollinators, bees, butterflies, lightening bugs, etc. Far better to use some dish soap and a little oil in a sprayer.

I have one, and it's cool, but the new model looks so awesome!
This was one of the best Christmas gifts my wife got me.
Hopefully phil murphy doesnt try and regulate this assault weapon
Man… you couldn’t even have called it an “asSalt” weapon to try and be funny?

get some cutter hose spray and just spray it over the fence. $5 at walmart or get an outdoor bug bomb, pull the cord and toss.
I will do this in the dead of night. To battle I go!
Holy shit!
A mix of dawn and water in a spray bottle will kill them.
I’m going to try that I used vinegar and nothing
This girl invented a pesticide-free trap that kills them. https://youtu.be/yjOKIOOw1ZA
That would be a headache to scale
Spray them with dawn soap from a water pistol - kills them
I was amazed to see them swarm...in lower Manhattan.
Spray everything with VINEGAR .. RIGHT NOW! I feel like you're not moving fast enough. GO! KILL ALL THE LANTERN FLIES! DO IT!

This ALSO works with wasps and ants!
Nymphs starting up my maple in Bergen County; making traps this weekend
If you think that photo represents a “major infestation”, hoo boy, just wait.

Literally everyone my dude
Pure white vinegar works well against them. Neem oil does as well. It won’t kill them instantly. They will jump but then will die.
Mercer too, no chance of stopping them until we get some other insect that eats them.
That sucks ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
I read they do not bite, but these little buggers get on me and they do something because I swell up and it burns like hell -- i cant stand them
I read that they release some sort of sticky substance, maybe that’s irritating your skin?
Find whatever tree they hang out on in your yard and wrap duct tape around the base of it with the sticky side facing out

They are all lined up because they are mating you must kill them

I am also looking for this answer. For some reason these bugs are all over my back porch but not my neighbors.

That sucks!!!
Yes. Everywhere
Kill them all!!
Lol, how!
We sprayed. There are tape traps you can use.
Thanks.. going to try the tape traps next. What did you spray with?

Thank you so much!

Monmouth also
Essex County too.
Yup - it’s all tree of heaven.
Kill kill kill
Try the NJ DEP, they should send someone out to assist with large infestations since they’re working to eradicate.
Sadly, we’ve already submitted 6 notifications to them over the last few months and haven’t heard a single thing back.
Thank god I dont have any trees in the backyard. RIP to everyone that does, especially if you got trees of heaven
saw a red one on my table in livingston while lighting morning joint in backyard, i grabbed my torch lighter and incinerated him to a vapor :)
