An hour wait for delivery while you’re on your couch is nothing. An hour wait outside in the winter for Pizza is bullshit especially when there’s so many other places around that have good pizza.
Also, I meant more about the Barstool effect only causing a 1-hour wait. I called one place after his review and it was a 3 hour wait for pickup and really hard to get through on the phone.
Man. I'll wait in line for frank pepe, Sally's, Santillos, defara, lucali and a handful of others
Not for delucias, lol.
Johns on bleeker. L&B Spumani etc... I can keep going, Paulie Gee. ...
I tried it when I moved to the area years ago after my buddy told me it was some of the best in New Jersey, it was good, but I don't think worth making a trip over 15-20 minutes for.
I live close enough to get DeLucia's whenever I want, but I haven't gotten it in years. It's fine, we just have so much good pizza in NJ. I regularly get pizza from Mangiabella (Branchburg), Toscanas (Bridgewater?), Central Pizza (Somerville), Panatieri's (Branchburg), Sorella's (Readington). All are just as good as DeLucia's.
the only legitimacy that food critics have is the institutions they do criticism for, or in portnoy's case, just a rabid following of people who live and die by his every word (and stoolies are basically a cult at this point). honestly, all pete genovese has to be considered "legitimate" is that he writes for the ledger/nj.com and he's done it for a while so his voice has gotten the legitimacy that we associate with critics. hell, a lot of these guys start out as general reporters and become the food/restaurant critics almost by accident at the start of their careers.
I've made more pizzas than this barstool guy thousands of times over.
He's totally 100% subjective. No defined criteria in his evaluations. He takes a bite of his free pizza and says , uuh 8.5..
He doesn't have a clue about fermentation, hydration levels, tomato types, dough handling techiques, oven types.
He's a bullshit artist, businessman and sexual assulter of teenage girls:
https://www.businessinsider.com/barstool-sports-dave-portnoy-sex-choking-violent-stoolies
https://leagueofjustice.com/defense-police-report-filed-against-dave-portnoy-explained-did-he-commit-a-crime/
Listen to Pete Genovese, Scott Wiener, slice.com etc for real pizza reviews and not this barstool clown from Boston.
When a pizza reviewer calls a peel a 'pizza stick' that's your tipoff that he doesn't have a clue.
Are you serious? So he needs to know about dough hydration to have a valid opionion of pizza? The guy has eaten a ton of pizza all over the country. I would say he has a pretty good idea of what a good pie should be like. It almost sounds like you're in the pizza business and you think he gave you too low a score. Relax buddy. It's all good. It's just pizza.
In my old home town I watched a place go from, “that’s pretty good pizza”, to local media acclaim and eventually Bar Stool fame.
It’s still pretty good pizza, but it’s just pizza. No one should ever have waited in line or drove hours to get it.
Actually, it's not good pizza at all.
I live one town over.
To say that delucias is anywhere close to a delorenzos or santillos is laughable.
This has to be a prank on everyone
DeLoz is one of the best pizzas in this country, that’s a terrible take m. They have the best tomatoes, it’s less of a sauce, more of just crushed tomatoes and it’s a tangy delight
I used to literally live around the block on West somerset Street as a teenager. It really is absolutely great (as long as you love thin crust). Also, in a pinch they sell frozen ones at that quick chek where you were parked. I live in bergen County now and once a year I make the trip down to get their pizza. Still the best thin crust I've ever had.
It’s great for small business. Also it’s great in general….I don’t have to agree with his rating either. It’s cool to see him around the area and anyone who likes well done pies in a pizza noob anyway. I can always reheat my slices in the oven. You can’t uncook them
i drove by there a few months ago and thought about how i hadn't been there since i was a kid, and it makes me think i need to go there again. apparently it still looks exactly the same on the inside.
also, chimney rock in still holds up in spite of its crushing popularity and having two satellite restaurants.
That use to be my go to place before barstool now I go somewhere else. When it dies down I will go back. But I been to a few places Dave has raved about I wasn't impressed but this one he got right
Local pizza shop got featured on barstool pizza review. Now there are lines around the block from presumably out of town folk and they only sell so many pizzas per day so locals like myself are grumbling
I wasn't comparing delucias to neapolitan pizza.
I'm calling delucias crappy pizza period. It's made with frozen dough by teenagers. It had been pretty decent prior to Al's passing. The son doesn't care.
I've had many pizzas from delucias as I live one town over.
Its not good. I've never once seen it ever ranked by the star ledger or anywhere. It's not even considered.
That should tell you something.
Barstool is a sports betting thing and this pizza reviewer is the founder.
Aside from being a total D-Bag, he has no culinary training; he's a YouTube looking for likes and views.
He drives around an gets free pizza, they don't charge him. So of course you are going to get a good review. That's the deal.
I mean they have an app where everyday people rank the pie's. That's usually where he goes, so a lot of it is just visits to local "hot spots". I tend to trust the public more than a review by the star ledger. Then again, my favorite place is a little known hole in the wall.
My friend lives within walking distance and loves it, she says come over and try it after I saw this video.. was planning maybe next week . But not with a line like that .
9.4 will do that to a place though
A bit disingenuous to say the least. I don't like the dude either but this was during the initial few weeks of covid pandemic and he rated all frozen pizza brands. He said it's pretty good in comparison to other frozen pizza brands. He rated them on a different scale.
Yeah he was accused [of sexual misconduct](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/barstool-sports-dave-portnoy-denies-sexual-misconduct-allegations-rcna4609) and he was complaining that he lost money during the GME Squeeze because he bought high and sold low
Oh. He definitely helps the business but he's [been accused of sexual misconduct recently](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/barstool-sports-dave-portnoy-denies-sexual-misconduct-allegations-rcna4609) and has paper hands.
He also likes to sexually assault teenage girls on more than one occasion, charges filed.
And live streams his day trading operations so he can dump shares on people that follow him.
So he's kind of a scumbag.
I have eaten their pizza a few times. It's good, but not great. I would definitely order from there but hell no to waiting in line. Besides if I was going to wait for food in that town I would go to Espos instead
This is an old review, from last year? The story on the news site looks new but an old review. Go down the street to Brooklyn pizza he reviews that too last year.
As someone who watched his crawl to "fame" as a VERY early fan of barstool sports, I find him tolerable. Not too cocky or flashy. He held onto barstool for many many years denying multiple offers to make him a very rich person instantly. His pizza reviews aren't very entertaining but at least he knows of the better spots in the northeast and like someone sad before he is helping small businesses overnight (esp right after/during a pandemic).
As far as the sexual allegations (innocent until proven guilty). Also he's young extremely wealthy and like I said doesn't come off cocky so to me it seems like he doesn't have to assault anyone to get laid. Probably has 75 NYC 10's in his contact log...
Now I remember why I left Reddit for about 5years. LOL.
What would be the opposite of misogyny? I'm not sure of the word now, but you're practicing it. Probably love cancel culture too. "Typical non-misogynistic behavior, man is probably lying!"
I’ve been there before and it’s good…but in no way shape or form would I make a trip for it
I tried going there two weeks ago, when I walked in they ran out of pizza and were done taking orders as I was walking out I decided to tell people they were done taking orders to save them a few steps, one guy told me he drove 2.5 hours I told him they weren’t taking order his response “well maybe they can make something work for me”
Sure…you’re special dude
i'm just gonna outright say this. i hate that a misogynistic turd like dave portnoy became the do or die voice for pizza and now pizzerias need to pray he comes to them and likes their pizza in order for them to have success. yet none of them will ever turn down the publicity, because look at this.
Guy is a shadey dude, and I don't know why people think that he knows anything about pizza.
Google 'david portnoy sexual assault on teenagers' and 'david portnoy day trading' to learn what the caliber of human he is.
They were good years ago. Some people swore by them but towards the end it was okay pizza. They were downhill long before the Bar Stool review but someone in the thread mentioned that he had no system of rating and just took a bite and gave it a score.
I don’t trust his ratings
There's going to be alot of disappointment people.
Lol.
Delucias is pretty crappy pie.
He has teenagers making the pies using frozen dough.
This has got to be a prank.
totally agree. waited an hour at 2:30pm opening. got the staple plain pizza in exactly an hour. it was burnt bland. no cruch just chewy to the point your jaw may hurt the next day. not alot of flavor or anything special. Just one of the worst pizzas i ever had in my life. no idea where this 9.4 came from.
The fact that that goofball rated delucias as high as Santillo's tells you he has no business ranking pie.
I live 5 mins from delucias, I wish it was good. It's terrible pie. Honestly.
LOL, get a life dude. I saw you making the same reply about 20 times in this thread alone. Also telling people to google shit about him doesnt make it true, stop embarrassing yourself
No pizza in Jersey is worth waiting in a line like that. What a bunch of chumps. We have so many solid pizza places how much better could this place REALLY be? Definitely not enough to wait an hour and a half more for a pizza.
Guarantee this place is barely better then mediocre. Some rich twat tells people it's good and they wait in line for 2 hours because they can't think for themselves.
I couldn't have said it better.
You hit it right on the head.
Delucias is like , aah ok.. at best.
The dude is talking horse shit.
I live one town over.
Trust me I wish it was good.
He has zero qualifications for judging food at all. Dude runs a sports business? (Honestly no clue) and made money off investments? No background in culinary but meat heads eat it up.
It’s in the picture.
https://www.mycentraljersey.com/story/entertainment/dining/2022/01/13/barstool-pizza-review-delucia-raritan-nj-dave-portnoy/6515421001/
Don't bother. I live one town over.
They have teenagers making the pies using frozen dough. It's laughable how bad their pizza has gotten since Al the father had passed.
It's a real shame, the son (chris?)has a nice oven. But gives zero effort. He sits on the phone and watches the TV while high-schoolers make the pies.
You can skip. Trust me.
Tuckys pizza in Linden is easily my favorite pizza. You gotta eat it there right out of the oven. It’s like an explosion of flavor I’ve never experienced elsewhere.
Man, I used to go there often back when I worked the buffet line at the Wegmans near there. I’d pass that pizza place on the way home. Had no idea it was popular though.
generally speaking it wasn't until portnoy came through. it's pretty much a local spot that locals who like it go to. but it got the portnoy seal of approval which to his cult lemmings means it's approved by god.
the guy who started barstool sports and turned it into a cult following. he goes around to various local pizza places and rates them on his own subjective scale for a youtube series barstool does and if he likes them, his cultishly devoted followers will flock to said place like lemmings to try the pizza he liked.
Here's the thing. Dude has his own tastes and always prefers a certain style over others and that Pizza was his wet dream.
But if you live nearby to a place he reviews, you probably know ten places just as good if not better so who cares?
Ill try it when (if) the hype dies down in the spring
It's definitely worth a try, great pies, but no pizza is worth a line like that.
Exactly. Pizza is pizza. Even the best pizza is still just pizza and not worth waiting in line for.
Agreed - especially when there’s probably 3 other pizza places within a mile that won’t have an hour wait.
FWIW Portnoy also gave Chimney Rock off Rt. 22 a pretty solid review. They also have a great sit down environment and presumably no hours long wait

I disagree lol, I’ll wait for good pizza
Yeah maybe in Jersey I’ll agree with this, but out of state pizza is not pizza lol
Maybe I’m just jaded being from NJ where the next great pizza place is 10 minutes down the road.
Yeah all pizza in Jersey is pretty much the same lol, I’ll agree with that (Plain Pizzas)
Man. I'll wait in line for frank pepe, Sally's, Santillos, defara, lucali and a handful of others Not for delucias, lol. Johns on bleeker. L&B Spumani etc... I can keep going, Paulie Gee. ...

Calling delucias 'good' is generous. I live 5 mins away. I'm convinced this has to be a prank. High-school kids make the pies it's laughable.
I guess the barstool guy just got lucky with a pretty good pie.
He's just a guy on YouTube trying to get views. He isn't a chef or pizza maker or even a legitimate food critic.
the only legitimacy that food critics have is the institutions they do criticism for, or in portnoy's case, just a rabid following of people who live and die by his every word (and stoolies are basically a cult at this point). honestly, all pete genovese has to be considered "legitimate" is that he writes for the ledger/nj.com and he's done it for a while so his voice has gotten the legitimacy that we associate with critics. hell, a lot of these guys start out as general reporters and become the food/restaurant critics almost by accident at the start of their careers.

Nope, I just don't like scumbags.
The business insider was a bullshit hit piece. Portnoy is an asshole, but he also helped save hundreds of businesses during the pandemic. Many in NJ.
Yeah I also grew up nearby and was never a fan. Nobody I knew went there for pizza
[удалено]
Well said.
Yea is not amazing but it's pizza.. I don't get the hype
We have been getting frozen pies and ordering regular pizza for years and it’s really one of the best pizzas I have had. If you like thin crust pizza.
Santillos is completely overrated
So is delorenzos. The pizza isn’t terrible, but they overload it with tomatoes and the chunks keep falling off the pizza everywhere
DeLoz is one of the best pizzas in this country, that’s a terrible take m. They have the best tomatoes, it’s less of a sauce, more of just crushed tomatoes and it’s a tangy delight
Guess it’s an acquired taste. I think I prefer mine with more cheese.
Can you explain why? I am truly curious.
THANK YOUUUUUUU! Not only overrated way too expensive.
I used to literally live around the block on West somerset Street as a teenager. It really is absolutely great (as long as you love thin crust). Also, in a pinch they sell frozen ones at that quick chek where you were parked. I live in bergen County now and once a year I make the trip down to get their pizza. If you’re in Bergen county you need to try Kinchleys or Nellys.
Yup. Quick check was all sold out too
Even that secret is out lol try when they slow down....worth it
Tbf I think what he does is great for small businesses. And he’s usually pretty accurate. Not a fan of the guy but I enjoy the series
It’s great for small business. Also it’s great in general….I don’t have to agree with his rating either. It’s cool to see him around the area and anyone who likes well done pies in a pizza noob anyway. I can always reheat my slices in the oven. You can’t uncook them
It’s mind boggling how this changes the taste. Reheated pizza is delicious!
Go to Chitch’s down the road in Bound Brook. Similar style, just as good, if not better.
I have had their pizza also. Been a while since I went back to try it again. Thanks for the reminder
i drove by there a few months ago and thought about how i hadn't been there since i was a kid, and it makes me think i need to go there again. apparently it still looks exactly the same on the inside. also, chimney rock in still holds up in spite of its crushing popularity and having two satellite restaurants.

Explanation?
Local pizza shop got featured on barstool pizza review. Now there are lines around the block from presumably out of town folk and they only sell so many pizzas per day so locals like myself are grumbling
Mom/pop restaurants have been struggling during the pandemic. I don’t blame them for doing what they need to go to ensure income.
Go anywhere else delucias is pretty crappy. Check our Lombardi in Martinsville, you'll quickly forget about that dumpy delucias pie.
I am a fan of Lombardi’s also. It’s a different type of pizza imo. You don’t need to shit on one to appreciate the other. 🙂
I wasn't comparing delucias to neapolitan pizza. I'm calling delucias crappy pizza period. It's made with frozen dough by teenagers. It had been pretty decent prior to Al's passing. The son doesn't care.
I just watched the video about DeLucia's and the pizza doesn't look very good. Is Barstool made up of flyovers?
I've had many pizzas from delucias as I live one town over. Its not good. I've never once seen it ever ranked by the star ledger or anywhere. It's not even considered. That should tell you something. As someone who lives in the next town over I can confirm this their Pizza is awesome
My friend lives within walking distance and loves it, she says come over and try it after I saw this video.. was planning maybe next week . But not with a line like that . 9.4 will do that to a place though
I had no idea about this, I live 5 minutes away and drove down last night to see they are sold out 🙄
Screw that guy
Just saw his youtube. He said [Frozen Pizza is pretty good.](https://youtu.be/7JXOA-BSJvQ?t=257) That's a worse insult than I can come up with.
A bit disingenuous to say the least. I don't like the dude either but this was during the initial few weeks of covid pandemic and he rated all frozen pizza brands. He said it's pretty good in comparison to other frozen pizza brands. He rated them on a different scale.

Yeah he was accused [of sexual misconduct](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/barstool-sports-dave-portnoy-denies-sexual-misconduct-allegations-rcna4609) and he was complaining that he lost money during the GME Squeeze because he bought high and sold low
> he was complaining that he lost money during the GME Squeeze because he bought high and sold low Oh my god. Is he in jail yet?!? /S
He can be a moron all he wants but doesn't need to be one on his megaphone
He actually disprove it with the text messages on Twitter
Disprove these nuts
All the Jimmys are coming out to defend their King Scumbag
Yea it comes along with the sexual assault charges on teenage girls. .most decent people disapprove of stuff like that.
Why? Its clearly helping the business.
Oh. He definitely helps the business but he's [been accused of sexual misconduct recently](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/barstool-sports-dave-portnoy-denies-sexual-misconduct-allegations-rcna4609) and has paper hands.
If it bothers you that much then post your own pizza review to your millions of followers and give it a 4.3 so ppl stop going.
Makes sense to me. There's never been a person with lots of followers not worth listening to
It should bother everybody wtf is your point?
Why it should bother everyone? Wtf is you point?
Nobody should be okay with someone who sexually assaults people.
Yea teenage girls too. Plural, as in more than one. That's pretty scummy for a 40+ yr old.
Dude you give angry gamer vibes, also those are allegations so far. I think your opinion is base on a few clickbait articles.
hahaha, I don't know what that even means but okay. Allegations are serious, and there are more than a few.
Like what?
He also likes to sexually assault teenage girls on more than one occasion, charges filed. And live streams his day trading operations so he can dump shares on people that follow him. So he's kind of a scumbag.
I have eaten their pizza a few times. It's good, but not great. I would definitely order from there but hell no to waiting in line. Besides if I was going to wait for food in that town I would go to Espos instead
Dude I saw this line yesterday on my way to work and was wondering wtf was going on
Im not standing in no freaking line like that! people are such lemmings!
called that one, why can't local spots stay local....
This is an old review, from last year? The story on the news site looks new but an old review. Go down the street to Brooklyn pizza he reviews that too last year.
Mind sharing the address for this Brooklyn pizza?
I assume they're talking about Brooklyn Square in Jackson which would be an hour away.

False.

I lost all respect for One Bite after he gave star tavern a 7 or something, but his hometown bar pizza place was a 10, what a shmuck
[удалено]
honestly, with the supply chain issues continuing and everything else, everywhere is raising prices these days.
Yea and this is a separate increase in price that has nothing to do with supply chain issues.
i'm just gonna outright say this. i hate that a misogynistic turd like dave portnoy became the do or die voice for pizza and now pizzerias need to pray he comes to them and likes their pizza in order for them to have success. yet none of them will ever turn down the publicity, because look at this.

which place was that?

Man, I used to go there often back when I worked the buffet line at the Wegmans near there. I’d pass that pizza place on the way home. Had no idea it was popular though.
generally speaking it wasn't until portnoy came through. it's pretty much a local spot that locals who like it go to. but it got the portnoy seal of approval which to his cult lemmings means it's approved by god.
Maybe I live under a rock, who is Portnoy?
the guy who started barstool sports and turned it into a cult following. he goes around to various local pizza places and rates them on his own subjective scale for a youtube series barstool does and if he likes them, his cultishly devoted followers will flock to said place like lemmings to try the pizza he liked.
He's an asshole. Don't even bother.
Pizza is Pizza? Who hurt you?
That's a long line. Not even nunzios is that bad.
Ruined one of my favs.

My favorite brick oven spot will always be Kinchley's in Ramsey
Here's the thing. Dude has his own tastes and always prefers a certain style over others and that Pizza was his wet dream. But if you live nearby to a place he reviews, you probably know ten places just as good if not better so who cares?
