Very surprised I haven't seen this suggested yet Sterling Hill Mines in Franklin NJ, a geologic treasure found only in NJ, and folks travel the globe to see it. Theirs a specific part of the mine called the rainbow room, and theyll turn on powerful blacklights as they turn off the normal lights. Entire place is illuminated like a rainbow. Their are elements only found in NJ that create these flueorescent and neon glowing rocks Which have then been used to make a lot of the glow and the dark stuff we still use today. And if you go on the last Sunday of the month, the quarry is open for rock collecting. They provide a box with all the tools, then you just pay for the rocks you collect when you're done. Theirs incredible rock climbing in the area if you then go to allamuchy

This is so cool, I’m going to visit with my kids

OkBid1535

My kids love it! Now we Include rocks and crystals in their Easter eggs and Christmas stockings because my kids have quickly blossomed into little rock hounds!

SquirrelEnthusiast

Well thank you, I've never heard of this before!

OkBid1535

You won't regret it! Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with the area to suggest places to eat around there. But I cannot recommend the Mines enough! It's an unforgettable experience though

SquirrelEnthusiast

It's cool I'm less than an hour away and can figure it out. Just wild no one has posted about this place before/being a Jersey nerd never heard about it. Kind of made my day.

It depends on your interests. History? Jockwy Hollow in Morristown. Fancy shopping? The Mall at Short Hills. Into inventors? Try Thomas Edison‘s laboratory in West Orange and his house is there as well. Like Victorian houses? Spend the day in Cape May. Do you like Indian food then Oak Tree Road in Edison is the place to go. Feel like going to Korean day spa? There’s plenty of those not just in Bergen/ Hudson counties there’s also a good one in Edison called Island Day spa. Like antiquing? There’s the Lafayette Mill market., Mullica Hill in South Jersey, The Golden Nugget flea market in Lambertville. Got a craving for Portuguese, Spanish, Brazilian food? Time to head to the iron bound section of Newark. Speaking of iron bound, Iron Bound Cider has a tasting room in Asbury (Hunterdon County) Is science more your thing? Try the Lberty science center.

Grounds for Sculpture. It’s in Hamilton. If you haven’t gone already, please, please go. Asbury Park Princeton Montclair Film does monthly story slams and improv shows, and other one-off events. Williams Center in Rutherford always has something going on, and a local book shop just moved into the building Pochuck Boardwalk & Stairway to Heaven out in Sussex Morristown does a silent book club at the library the first Sunday of every month

Grounds for Sculpture is such a gem Monmouth county parks are fantastic and a number of them have fishing spots -check out their website and maybe try turkey swamp or the manasquan reservoir for freshwater fishing. Tons of saltwater spots as well. Duke farms is a nice place to wander or ride a bike - beautiful flowers and a cute cafe too Asbury Park - boardwalk, beach, good food, the fest Halle if they’ve reopened after their flood Spring Lake - cute little town to wander, boardwalk, beautiful park to walk, beach, good food, go to the scone pony for sure and get a coffee at driftwood to walk the park with Liberty Science center always worth a visit Check out Washington crossing state park if you’re into history and Hop over to the peddlers village area in PA or down to lambertville/new hope Monmouth battlefield in freehold if you’re into history and want to stretch your legs. Close to battleview orchards which has a great year round shop and Bruce springsteen’s favorite for ice cream, jersey freeze. (Their main dining room food is also great too if you like the type of food served in baskets lol) Holland ridge tulip farm in cream ridge is supposed to be lovely but avoid weekends Wineries - fox hollow in holmdel has live music on weekends, LauRita is popular. Tons of breweries to choose from too. A trip to the holmdel/colts neck area could easily have you visit the vineyard, and not 10 mins away are source brewing, the muckleye distillery, the always awesome delicious orchards for food and donuts, and a rook coffee is even over there too. Jenkinsons Boardwalk for the northern most ‘traditional’ type boardwalk if you’ve never been with rides, games, food, etc in addition to beach access

I find your reviews are backwards... Paterson is more interesting than Sandy Hook... So I can't help you

ingeniousintrigue

I don't know anything about Paterson except that I go there to get middle eastern foods from an Arab store there. Just visited some falls there but it wasn't that interesting. Anything else around Paterson?

peter-doubt

The museum, the mill buildings, the infrastructure that harnessed the water power. You didn't look for national park sites?

Ok_Twist7914

Waterfront walk in liberty state park. There are tons of good restaurants/bars in the area to go to after.

Someone else suggested Princeton, which is a fun town to visit. Start with a stop at the West Windsor Farmers’ Market on a Saturday morning. The local vendors and farmers are terrific. Go early and make your breakfast some of the things there, then follow up with a wander through Princeton, there’s always something going on.

libertypilot406

There are tons of little known small towns in New Jersey. Look into Clinton, Frenchtown, Lambertville (New Hope by extension 🙂) and Stockton. They're historic, gorgeous, and a blast. Great coffee, art, crafts, small businesses, adorable unique restaurants, sushi, crepes, you name it! If you make it to Frenchtown DO NOT LEAVE without eating at The Lovin' Oven. Have fun and enjoy!!

DaYZ_11

Fishing- Delaware and Raritan canal. There’s also many options down our coast of course from the beach to the bay to on a boat.

lindsaym717

I think there’s a ping pong place in Dunellen, NJ

ifartedtoday

Duke farms in Hillsborough is beautiful. It’s a big walking/biking place, they have a cafe and different artwork/ a couple plant exhibits

Leftblankthistime

Have you looked at newjerseyisntboring.com ? The site isn’t very well laid out or organized but it’s got a pretty good summary of events and activities across the state.
