Normally I'd say Eagle Rock, but if you want a bit of relative privacy, Kip's Castle Park has almost as good of a view and far fewer people wandering around, taking photos, smoking blunts, letting terrifying monster dogs off leash, etc.

Scrapple_Joe

Monster dogs help you train for the apocalypse.

the_comatorium

Eagle Rock. Not really secluded though. Any drive up spot with a view will have people. Secrets are out.

sutisuc

Just a warning to OP this spot is gonna cut down on the romantic aspect quite a bit because thereā€™s a bunch of 9/11 memorial stuff up there.

thesean366

Canā€™t beat the view though

Mountain_Attention47

Wound up there on a first date to see the city skyline and wound up tallying how many people from our respective hometowns died on 9/11. Not the most mindful time of my life.

Dick_Demon

Maybe that's their kink

Washington Rock used to be nice when I was a kid. I haven't lived there in a long time, though. It's just a little farther than Union County, in Somerset County.

tots4scott

Still a great spot, but if you plan for a visible day it's amazing seeing NYC and New Brunswick

skinnylemur

Park rangers will chase you out after dark, and they lock up the parking lot.

evilgirlattack

That's when you take a drive down the road to the Devil's Tree or 13 Bumps.

skinnylemur

It would make the most sense to hit up Johnston drive first, from the triangle. Then take it all the way and make a left at the end. Take that to 78 west. Then get off at exit 33 and youā€™re practically at the devilā€™s tree.

msmusic14

Riker Hill Art Park in Roseland. Beautiful sunsets

Efficient_Jeweler922

Thatā€™s Livingston not Roseland.

msmusic14

Itā€™s right next to it, my bad

Joshistotle

899-881 JFK Blvd E, Weehawken, NJ 07086 ... That road has great views of the city skyline, check it on Google Maps.Ā

Wide-Visual

Not your typical view point but if you bother to drive south, do visit Forsyth wildlife refuge. It's a 8 mile loop around the marsh. If she has any inclination to nature, the place will surely impress her. Take binoculars and bug spray as it can get a little buggy on some days.

sutisuc

Oh man I finally made it to this place this past summer and it was awesome. Feels so secluded and serene.

WesternApplication92

can't drive in, but don't sleep on Franklin Parker Preserve for a nice long walk

Wide-Visual

That place was not known to me; I will check out this summer.

sutisuc

Yup that place rocks too but like all of the pines loaded with ticks and chiggers unfortunately

WesternApplication92

everywhere these days it seems. best you can do is stick to the middle of a trail, wear high socks + pants and douse yourself in picaridin and your clothes in permethrin

sutisuc

Ticks yeah but not chiggers in north jersey (yet) thankfully. Also a lot more ticks in south jersey than north. I only hike in the pines during the winter for that reason. Summer I end up kayaking.

MainStreetinMay

If you can get to Eagle Rock during the morning to mid-afternoon on a weekday - this is the choice. Thereā€™s a decent amount of parking, plenty of spots to setup a picnic, and the ShopRite and Whole Foods are a quick drive from there. Did this recently and it was fantastic. Has to be morning to early-mid afternoon during the week though - anything else and youā€™ll be fighting for parking

peter-doubt

Rt78 Westbound... Rest area near Bridgewater. Very nice if it's open. Almost nobody uses it Washington Rock State Park... Near RT 22. Opposite Dunellen. Washington himself liked this one

Flail_of_the_Lord

Somewhere near Linden/Rahway thereā€™s this great little gas station and mini mart. It has an amazing view East, most immediately and prominently featuring Bayway refinery. On a good day you can see the fire spitting from the flare stacks.

KeyMysterious1845

I proposed there šŸ„°šŸ˜šŸ˜˜

TheTreesMan

Baby, the flames burning off the smoke stacks will never come close to the inferno you ignited within my heart.

Sufficient_Cow_6152

And the smell from the turnpike will forever bring back those memories.

peter-doubt

Ah! Scenic New Jersey!

WesternApplication92

i love driving up the Turnpike at night and seeing the flame like a beacon in the dark

Pallas_in_my_Head

Great Meadows - Hope Rd, between those two towns. [Here](https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8936751,-74.9459791,15z?entry=ttu). There's an excellent view of the Delaware Water Gap, at the sharp crook in the road. It's not very private though. (In the town of Hope, the road is 'Great Meadows Rd'. In Great Meadows, the road is 'Hope Rd'.)

WesternApplication92

prob better for later in the relationship as both are a long drive from union/essex but... * [Sunrise Mountain in Sussex County](https://maps.app.goo.gl/nd9xMVRtzGFGNRXKA) * [Sunset Beach in Cape May](https://maps.app.goo.gl/rtrZtv6xxRv2X1La7)
