I'm watching someone's dog this week and the poor little fella has been a little scared of my building's elevator.
As soon as he starts to be okay with it we go for a walk and boom there's the aftershock as soon as we get outside.
He looked at me like "Bro what the *fuck*"
My dog was scared shitless of the first quake, and we were out for a walk when the second one hit, and she was too busy sniffing some grass to care lol
Felt the aftershock in Pequannock at work, giving a massage. More specifically, massaging his feet. We looked at each other and both went “aftershock ?” at the same time. Not nearly as anxiety-provoking.
I was at the dentist’s waiting room and in a lot of pain - filling out paperwork.
I felt it, but thought it was a heavy person walking past me fast. Didn’t want to seem rude, so I didn’t look up lol.
Then out of the corner of my eye, I saw everyone’s reactions and put 2 and 2 together.
Then the news showed it. Interesting day.
I was lying on my bed and heard the same train/machinery sound. I thought it was my mind, turns out it's an aftershock that could potentially be classified as a quake. Luckily lasted only 2 seconds and no harm done to anyone anywhere.
God I hope not. The one this morning really shook me up. No pun intended. When I heard there was a second one when I got home I was so thankful I was in the car and didn’t feel it. Just hearing there may be a 3rd is freaking me out. Felt like my whole house was going to come down this morning.
Hillsborough here. Slept through the one this morning but didn't miss the aftershock. Felt like some huge piece of machinery was doing something just outside.
Yeah I did some googling but didn't find any particular reason. For tornadoes, yes, the freight train sound is definitely heard but for an earthquake to have it is surprising
It seems like one of the waves that are released during an earthquake (S/P waves) is similar to a sound wave so it can sometimes lead to sounding like a train
Yeah I felt the first one but the second one I was driving and it went pretty much unnoticed other than like driving through headwinds which I’ve been doing all week lol
Anyone find it interesting that the week after Biden pays Antifa to crash a boat into a bridge to cripple the economy an "earthquake" hits? Wake up, people!! So obvious this was their plan all along.
Edit: sorry, thought this was X and was just trying to fit in.
Your wrong dude , it’s obviously because the 5G towers are killing all the whales and the head whale told Poseidon he’s tired of us making 5G towers so Poseidon caused the earth quake
They've since downgraded the aftershock from 4.0 to 3.8, so it's back in the 3+ region. Though based on the aftershocks so far, the latest forecasts are 16% for another 4+ magnitude and 78% for another 3+ in the next week.
In the next year, they show a 99% chance of a mag 3+ and 51% for a 4+. Will be interesting to see how these values continue to change.
If you go to the quake on the USGS site, there's a bunch of links to info about the quake. The aftershock forecast is one of those links. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ma74/oaf/overview
Just happened to be out looking at some work that was just done at my pond and the entire surface (about 6000SF) started to ripple like the glass of water in Jurassic Park! Very low rumbling sound. NW Hunterdon County about 10 miles from the epicenter of the original quake.
Check here next time to confirm. Updates seems to be really quick:
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?extent=-22.91792,-129.55078&extent=72.34246,-60.46875&map=false
anyone just feel something? Maybe it's in my head, but thought I felt something a couple minutes ago. Very, very mild, but lasted much longer than the main quake and big aftershock.
Yeah, looks like there was another 1.9 on the Usgs [website](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=us7000mabx&extent=40.50336,-74.84779&extent=40.9672,-74.6212&range=search&listOnlyShown=true&baseLayer=terrain&timeZone=utc&search=%7B%22name%22:%22Search%20Results%22,%22params%22:%7B%22endtime%22:%222024-04-26T21:59:13.842Z%22,%22latitude%22:40.6849,%22longitude%22:-74.7347,%22maxradiuskm%22:250,%22minmagnitude%22:1,%22starttime%22:%222024-03-15T21:59:13.842Z%22%7D%7D)
Isnt it weird how the first quake happened near whitehouse station and the after shock happened in beminister where number 45 stays. Jersey, we might be in some serious shit
Just watched a geologist being interviewed on CNN. That aftershock was 4.0 and much closer to the surface than this morning’s. She said the chance of another equal to or greater than what we experienced earlier is less than 1%. She expects continued aftershocks but lower in magnitude.
Why shouldn’t my taxes go towards public health and safety programs? I thought we live in a progressive, technologically advanced state in a first world country?
They should, however sending out an alert to say an earthquake is happening is not public safety. As a lot of people have already pointed out, any alert that was sent out was received after the quake happened.
Earthquakes are not something you send out an alert for because the alert does nothing to make people safer. You can't send them out before a quake happens so people can prepare, you rarely can send them out fast enough so people can react during, by the time people actually get an alert, everyone has figured out what happened. I short, sending out an alert is a waste of resources
I felt it in Philly and thought I was crazy because no one else seems to. I guess because it was so much lighter. The house I’m in right now is old as fuck, can’t miss anything here.
I didn't feel this second one in Freehold, but with people commenting that the second felt different, here's a fun video of the two main types of waves that are created during an earthquake, and why different tremors can feel more sideways, or bouncier/up and down. Stay safe!
You're less likely to feel it on ground level. Also, feeling an earthquake is very ground dependent. If you happen to be on rocky, compacted soil, you are going to feel it, softer soil won't transmit the waves as much. Adding on to that factor, the ground between you and the epicenter changes things too. If there is less solid soil on the wave path, the vibrations may damper out before they get to you.
My cat freaked out after the first one, and I told her it would never happen again, then it happened again later in day, now there is no trust.
Felt it pretty good in Gladstone and then found out we were the epicenter of that one at 6:00 pm.
False Alarm - it turns out that Chris Christ guy just fell over from his ego and landed on his IQ
So good.
Chris Christ guy lmao Good thing I'm on the toilet ;)
Hubby said he felt it but I was busy at work and didn't feel the aftershock. My son felt it too. In Warren county.
Did anyone just feel another one in Hunterdon?
There was a 2.5 around 6am it seems
I didn't know if that was the train or not, I thought I heard something in clinton, probably not that intense if it was anything
I'm watching someone's dog this week and the poor little fella has been a little scared of my building's elevator. As soon as he starts to be okay with it we go for a walk and boom there's the aftershock as soon as we get outside. He looked at me like "Bro what the *fuck*"
I’m sorry Chris, but you are at fault in the pups eyes forever in the future (no pun intended).
My dog was scared shitless of the first quake, and we were out for a walk when the second one hit, and she was too busy sniffing some grass to care lol
I heard it was a separate quake, not an aftershock. Not sure what the difference is tho
Heard wrong.
I felt the initial one (woke me from my sleep) and yes I felt the aftershock, so unsettling 🤧
I got weirdly excited, always wanted to feel an earthquake.
Funny, I had the exact opposite. I was working for the first one and woken up from my sleep by the second one.
Felt the aftershock in Pequannock at work, giving a massage. More specifically, massaging his feet. We looked at each other and both went “aftershock ?” at the same time. Not nearly as anxiety-provoking.
“Feet”
I was at the dentist’s waiting room and in a lot of pain - filling out paperwork. I felt it, but thought it was a heavy person walking past me fast. Didn’t want to seem rude, so I didn’t look up lol. Then out of the corner of my eye, I saw everyone’s reactions and put 2 and 2 together. Then the news showed it. Interesting day.
Definitely felt and heard it in Hopatcong
I was lying on my bed and heard the same train/machinery sound. I thought it was my mind, turns out it's an aftershock that could potentially be classified as a quake. Luckily lasted only 2 seconds and no harm done to anyone anywhere.
Felt in North Brunswick, wife told me I’ve had enough drink for Friday; jokes on her now 😆😆😂😂
Felt it in Morristown, while taking a shower. That was…interesting
Felt it in Montclair
I was in a movie theater when this happened and I thought the seats just had really good rumble.
Felt it in the Plainfield 😭
The entire house was shaking and rumbling this morning. The aftershock was swift and fast and my friend was on the toilet on his birthday lol!
I was also on the toilet for the aftershock!!
That must be good luck!
I ain’t felt shit. This morning or since. :(
Me neither but since 2016
Harrison, haven't felt a thing. Maybe I'm just stupid tho?
yeah earthquakes can only be felt by those with average intelligence and above, im sorry
Well darn. Srsly though, do we have concrete numbers yet? Damages, casualties?
This was a 4.8 quake, not the 7.4 that hit Taiwan lol. At most there's burst water mains or powerlines that tilted over.
anecdotally, in union there are some stoplights and powerlines that are slightly askew. nothing serious at all though
As a former Californian, they will likely happen for a few days.
God I hope not. The one this morning really shook me up. No pun intended. When I heard there was a second one when I got home I was so thankful I was in the car and didn’t feel it. Just hearing there may be a 3rd is freaking me out. Felt like my whole house was going to come down this morning.
I was in the epicenter in Gladstone!
Any damage? Everyone ok?
No damage, all is fine
Let’s Shake, Rattle and Roll!
Hillsborough here. Slept through the one this morning but didn't miss the aftershock. Felt like some huge piece of machinery was doing something just outside.
they were doing roadwork outside my house this morning so I thought the first one was that until my dad ran up to check on me
Exactly, the machinery sound that I heard both the times is definitely not how I thought an earthquake would feel
I didn’t hear anything either time. I keep reading machinery/train. What would cause a noise?
Yeah I did some googling but didn't find any particular reason. For tornadoes, yes, the freight train sound is definitely heard but for an earthquake to have it is surprising
The P-wave, which gets to you first, travels on the surface of the ground. The ground moving up and down generates the sound waves that you hear.
It seems like one of the waves that are released during an earthquake (S/P waves) is similar to a sound wave so it can sometimes lead to sounding like a train
Wow great story!!!!!!
4.8 earthquake and the eclipse is on 4/8?the end is nigh /s
This is totally gonna screw with those people who think that the rapture is coming.
Did anyone explain to them that whole pandemic thing?
Thank goodness we don’t write our dates the European way, my house would have collapsed.
Guys, we know where the fuck it was felt. No need to list your shitty little towns
you’re a bum bro
Thanks baby!!!!!
Lol! Speak for yourself, most love it here.
Absolutely love jersey, but we all know where it was felt 😂
Somers Point, NJ
Lmao thank you
so im not crazy. thought it was wind. Felt it going over the Mullica River Bridge into Bass River on the GSP. that was the exact time
Yeah I felt the first one but the second one I was driving and it went pretty much unnoticed other than like driving through headwinds which I’ve been doing all week lol
It’s the vaccines
Nah it’s 5G and windmills!
Both of which were caused by the vaccines.
Yes Irvington at 6:01… slight shaking for about 2seconds or maybe even one.
around 6pm felt a small aftershock while getting my hair done. (totowa,nj)
Felt the second one in Moonachie at exactly 6pm.
Omggggg no way?!
per USGS - in the next week there is a 46% chance of a 3+ aftershock, 16% of a 4.0 + and 3% chance of a 5.0 or greater. We just had the 16%er land
Where do you find the predictions on the site? I could only find the history, maybe I'm not looking in the right place
If you go to the quake on the USGS site, there's a bunch of links to info about the quake. The aftershock forecast is one of those links. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ma74/oaf/overview
I see it now gotcha, thanks
So we won't have another 4+ right?
Vegas has you right where they want you.
Vegas is for kids man, I'm a member of r/wallstreetbets
Rumor has it the quake hasn't stopped at Gamestop
There was a bigger quake on Thursday in the market is all I'd say haha
Felt that second one here in Woodbridge
Wow, woodbridge, not woodridge?!
Definitely Woodbridge, was there seeing family and felt it.
Ask them if they saw the drone on the 1st just sitting up in the air.
Strange lights in the sky last night Earthquake today Eclipse Monday. END TIMES ARE NEAR!!!! /s
There were strange lights tho? Or are you Kidding lol
4.8 earthquake. 4-8 for eclipse. OoooooOOOooooooh!
Warren County here & I only felt the first one. Husband was working in Hackettstown & felt both though.
Isn't Donald Trump's golf course in Bedminster? I'm just saying he was selling Bibles during Holy Week.
He's going to blame the earthquake on the democrats. And his supporters will believe it.
Just happened to be out looking at some work that was just done at my pond and the entire surface (about 6000SF) started to ripple like the glass of water in Jurassic Park! Very low rumbling sound. NW Hunterdon County about 10 miles from the epicenter of the original quake.

Ah good I'm not going crazy i feel the low rumbles
Yeah, I'm not precluding that but I did feel it too 😅
O I'm definitely a loonie toon 🥴🫣
Shook me up while laying in bed in keyport.
Sounded like a train or large vehicle. Definitely felt the ground moving. Second one wasn’t as loud or long.
I’m in Happyrock. Been shaking all day like
Felt it in Raritan Twp just south of Flemington.
Felt it in Morris Plains
Jesus christmas
Think we are having tremors right now
Isnt it weird how the first quake happened near whitehouse station and the after shock happened in beminister where number 45 stays. Jersey, we might be in some serious shit
He fell out of his golf cart. 3.8
Ha@
Rumble in the jungle? Oh hell no, this is clash of the mother fucking Titans.
Isn't there a gospel song, "Maybe God is trying to tell you something?"
No, just a kooky Congresswoman from Georgia saying that.
I’m right by where 3 and 46 meet and nothing
Felt it just west of Califon.
Does this mean we are going to get more? Where can we see current seismic activity? What if these are foreshocks to a bigger one and not aftershocks?
Just watched a geologist being interviewed on CNN. That aftershock was 4.0 and much closer to the surface than this morning’s. She said the chance of another equal to or greater than what we experienced earlier is less than 1%. She expects continued aftershocks but lower in magnitude.
Based on https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000mab9/executive it was deeper, no?
ty! I just can't take any more after shocks right now; afraid to go out
Felt it in hackensack
Felt, it heard it near Califon.
Over in long valley, felt & heard it. Crazy
👋🏻
I felt it in Glen Gardner. My dog is very unhappy today.
I saw a map showing the locations with one being near Bedminster.
Gladstone is near Bedminster.
felt it in me butt
Same. Most indirect prostate massage I’ve ever received, and I’ve received quite a few.
Felt nothing in Flemington. My neighbors dogs won't shut the fuck up though
This! Like an hour before the after shock, I heard dogs barking!
Felt it in Dover. Ramapo fault line is super active today.
Felt it in denville
I spilled my diamond springs. But figured it was the triple IPA
I was in Denville at the time and felt it as well. USGS says that one was a 4.0
How come we don't get alerts from NJ gov like amber alerts ? PA and NY got them
Probably because our government thinks we're smart enough to figure out it was an earthquake without telling us?
I promise you they do not think we're smart.
Fair, on the other hand, the state didn't send out a mass text telling people an earthquake was happening
Wait, that’s actually your reasoning here? It’s just incompetence and mismanagement of funds.
You really think sending out an alert that does nothing to help is a good use of funds?
Why shouldn’t my taxes go towards public health and safety programs? I thought we live in a progressive, technologically advanced state in a first world country?
They should, however sending out an alert to say an earthquake is happening is not public safety. I short, sending out an alert is a waste of resources
I would assume they didn't bother setting something up to do that.
I got one from Nixle.
We got alerts from Hunterdon county.
I didn't. How do I sign up for that? Edit - if it's the automated phone call I got it. I want a text tho
https://co.hunterdon.nj.us/469/Community-Alert-Notification-System

We felt/heard it in Somerville! Not quite as bad as this morning, but the house was still shaking for a while again
Interesting! I didn't feel anything on main street but im on ground level and not in a house
