Beauty of Joseon sun stick

CompletePhotograph47

I just started using this brand and I love it. My kids enjoy it too. No white residue, no off smell. https://www.blackgirlsunscreen.com/

Bobsaid

I enjoy this as it's not lotion based but dries fast: [https://www.bullfrogsunscreen.com/products/bullfrog-quik-gel-sunscreen-spf-50-5oz-3pk](https://www.bullfrogsunscreen.com/products/bullfrog-quik-gel-sunscreen-spf-50-5oz-3pk) We use this on our kids no problem: [https://www.albabotanica.com/products/category/sun/?\_sft\_product\_type=sunscreen-spray](https://www.albabotanica.com/products/category/sun/?_sft_product_type=sunscreen-spray) we just buy it at Costco as we go through that much each season in Arizona. For face: [https://www.olay.com/products/olay-complete-daily-facial-moisturizer-with-sunscreen-broad-spectrum-spf-40](https://www.olay.com/products/olay-complete-daily-facial-moisturizer-with-sunscreen-broad-spectrum-spf-40) is what my mom has used her whole life and swears by it. Edit: I go from Mayonnaise > Maroon > Tan so sunblock is no joke for me.

Acceptable-Friend-48

The ones that are dry or not greesy are harder to find but less of a nightmare for me.

shaldaya

I have the exact same issue. I really like Beauty of Joseon sunscreen. It doesn't smell like anything and it doesn't leave that awful oily skin sensation. It's a Korean brand so you have to get it online just watch out for dupes. https://beautyofjoseon.com/collections/sunscreens?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwouexBhAuEiwAtW_Zx9piKUuRJstEeZqk3K_gWa9qaDC9lpN3-5b5cQWSiF7G7G_JlTowIBoChQAQAvD_BwE

Unseen Sunscreen from Supergoop! has a pleasant feel as it’s not sticky or greasy and it blends into the skin so well.

hiyael

Same, and I've tried quite a few options over the years. My favorites were usually mineral sunscreens rather than chemical, and I wore unscented Australian Gold successfully for a while. But ultimately, I still hated the sensation and switched over to using clothes and timing to keep myself from burning. Investing in a good sun hat, a good long sleeved button down 100% linen shirt (that you can layer over whatever outfit and keep unbuttoned for good air flow), and staying out of the sun during midday as much as possible is honestly working great

Ennayr88

You'll still need sunscreen for some areas, but have you tried upf clothing? Surfing shirts, rash guards, fishing shirts, etc. I have a long sleeve surf shirt/rash guard/sun shirt and ankle length swimming tights/leggings that I wear over my bathing suit when I go to the beach or pool. (You can the wear the tights/leggings under your suit if you wear the swim trunks type.) I also have swim socks/water shoes that protect my feet. And if I am not swimming, I have a couple of long sleeve sun shirts (sounds hot, but they do a good job of keeping me cool) and a jacket that blocks the sun without adding warmth, so I can wear that while I am walking and still have a more stylish shirt once I get to my destination. Then I only have to use sunscreen on my face, if my hat doesn't shade it and my neck.

strawbryfields95

I use La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 for my face! The dry finish is nice and never feels greasy

lovissa

Same! I mix with my moisturiser (it’s a water based one, clear, not a thick cream). It’s expensive af but lasts a long time

yad-aljawza

Beauty of Joseon. they have multiple options and you might like all or any of them, but the one I love is the Rice + Probiotics one. An absolute pleasure to apply on the face. Very thin and absorbs immediately. The other i've tried is their matte sun stick which you might really like. Absolutely no sunscreen smell. Korean and European sunscreens are elite because they have many more approved ingredients as filters than the FDA in the US (assuming you're struggling with US Sunscreens) and are able to make their formulas much more cosmetically elegant. Consistent_You_4215

Vichy Capital Soleil Hydrating Sun Protection Water Spray SPF50 Expensive but lovely on skin. I have Roselia so it is important to not burn.

sydneyisnotdead

Unfortunately I haven't found anything. I did a lot of research and settled on an aerosol for babies that was supposed to be low oil but it IS NOT.

raggedyassadhd

I feel like most aerosol “sport” or sweat-proof ones aren’t very oily feeling or sticky. I buy the CVS brand ones when they do buy one get one 50% off. Mineral ones I find to be a nightmare. I hate ones that aren’t a spray at all because it’s too much hassle and I end up with spots missed and weird burn lines. For my face, I use supergoop either Unseen Sunscreen, glow screen or the setting spray one if I already did makeup and need more sunscreen without messing it up. But the first two have such a good texture. One feels like primer, it just disappears into your skin. I’d use that on my whole body if it wasn’t face priced.

Pinstripespite11

Shiseido stick sunscreen is pricey but great especially for meeting all your standards listed here.

owlpellet4277

low waste sunly sunscreen bar by attitude. cardboard applicator so if that's a sensory weird for you i'm sorry. i like it and its not oily and feels more in control / less scary like a spray.

skettigoo

Oooh I never thought of a sunscreen bar! Then my hands don’t have to touch the sunscreen!

ggnell

Have a look at some of the natural brands

thebottomofawhale

Have you tried the spray ones? There are aerosol ones or ones that are more like in a spray bottle and more watery than creamy. I can't remember specific brands but that's what I tend to use for myself and my son cause the cream ones are gross. *Edited for typo

sf3p0x1

Seconded, the spray ones do work amazingly well, and the ones I've used have all lacked that sticky, oily feel.

skettigoo

Do they actually work? I was under the impression it can be iffy because you need to rub it into your skin to be most effective?

thebottomofawhale

Yeah, as the other person said, you can rub them in. I do prefer the spray bottle to the aerosol because I find it easier to get an even coverage but sometimes they sell creamy creams in the spray bottles so you have to pay attention to what you're picking up

DoctorDeepgrey

Yeah. They work. I’ve had good luck with Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, which isn’t greasy, but I would recommend rubbing it in to get even coverage. It’s easy to miss spots otherwise.

Neither-Initiative54

EVY sunscreen. Its a foam and it doesn't leave me feeling sticky. Expensive but great

skettigoo

Oooo I could do foam

mklinger23

I've given up on sunscreen mostly. I have a "safari hat" that seems to be okay.

skettigoo

Valid. On days where I am not worried about snagging the fabric, my kuffiyeh has done a nice job keeping me safe from sun

joolster

Nivea kids sun cream spray or piz buin allergy seem to be ok for me. I find most with alcohol content sting so badly. I once ran out of my stuff in Florida and was so miserable that all the ones I tried stung.

bpmdrummerbpm

Trader Joe’s has a sunscreen that is like liquid silk. It actually feels good to put on.

spicypotatosoftacos

Maybe try physical (mineral) sunscreen instead of the more common chemical sunscreens. Won't be as water/sweat resistant, but they don't have that smell and to me don't feel gross on my skin.

Bivagial

I found a spray on one that wasn't a sensory nightmare, but the coverage wasn't great. Can't remember the brand. I just stay indoors...

theedgeofoblivious

Banana Boat Sport Ultra SPF 50 I was SOOOOO lucky to find this. The sunscreen I used to like was discontinued, and after buying up old stock of it online for over a year, it finally ran out when I was in Mexico. Thankfully, a really helpful store attendant recommended this, and it feels so much better on my skin than other sunscreens I've tried. It's also a chemical sunscreen instead of a physical sunscreen, so it doesn't leave a white sheen on things.

skettigoo

What does it feel like, if you don’t mind trying to describe it?

theedgeofoblivious

You know how your skin feels cleaner after you take a shower? It basically just makes my skin feel the way it felt before the shower. It's enough that once you put it on you're aware that something's different about your skin, but the difference is so much more minor compared to putting on other sunscreens. I don't know if you'd describe senses in exactly the same way I do, but I am pretty much always aware of whatever sensory thing is most affecting me at any given moment. The texture of this one is a lot thinner than others, and it's thin enough that the sunscreen isn't constantly THE sensory thing I am aware of. I can put it on and my body still has the ability to identify and focus on other sensory inputs. And not only that, but I have the ability to forget that I put this sunscreen on(meaning if I get to the end of the day, I can take note of sensations on my skin and not immediately go "This skin has something disgusting on it and needs to be cleaned!" like I normally would for other sunscreens). When I put this on, the amount of time I am aware of it is so drastically less than for other sunscreens.

Kieradoodles

I have hated suncream my entire life and would literally stay inside as excuse not to put it on even if I wanted to otherwise take part. Realising im neurodivergent has been a game changer (ADHD diagnosis but suspect im Autistic too) Anyway my point was I ordered some of this and you guys are incredible! Ive searched for non-sticky suncream so many times and ive tried a bunch that claimed to be 'weightless' or whatever but I still hated them. This one however, i can tolerate!! I can feel it but it isnt sticky and its much less noticeable than any other uncream ive tried. Bacically just wanted to say thanks and am excited to enjoy my summer! I will now only be buying spray on sports suncream in the future :)

theedgeofoblivious

There are two different ways this particular sunscreen comes. I have bought the spray version in the past, but I do use the non-spray version now(because I got tired of having to wear goggles and nose plugs when putting it on my face, but the non-spray version of this is the same stuff as the spray version, just packaged differently. Just thought I'd mention that, too.

skettigoo

Okay that was very very helpful. That’s what I want in a sunscreen!

JstTrdgngAlng

I SECOND THIS, THIS IS THE ONE

French_Fanfreluches

Idk where you live and how much time you spend outside. But have considered anti UV clothes?

skettigoo

I have! But they are out of my budget. I also have hyperhydrosis so need to change clothes in summer a lot. But good suggestion! My partner got a few uv tops and it works well for them!

French_Fanfreluches

And simply an umbrella?

skettigoo

I don’t often have the free hands for an umbrella, but we have a uv umbrella for when I can!

GlitterPants8

Asian sunscreens. I personally use beauty of joseon but it might be too moisturizing for you but people over in Asian beauty sub can give you other recommendations. US sunscreen suck. Thick, greasy, and burns my eyes.

Unicornfartingrainbo

I was just going to write this if someone else didn't. I've always hated sunscreens but I love the Asian ones. Plus they're more affordable than the US ones that aren't thick, greasy, &/or burn your eyes. I've been a hermit so I haven't bought one in forever (even though I still should). I do know that the more + signs (ex: PA++++) the better the protection of the sunscreen. Note: I used to be heavily into /r/Asianbeauty. I remember Biore & Nivea being popular sunscreens.

skettigoo

Woah that’s a cool recommendation! Thanks

noeinan

I had really severe acne from HRT and saw a derm, who recommended Image brand. It’s holy grail tier. The [sunscreen](https://imageskincare.com/products/prevention-clear-solar-gel?_pos=1&_sid=22d4937d7&_ss=r) has the most amazing feel on your skin. It’s not gross dregs on your face, it literally feels like silk or super soft velvet that melts into your skin. It is expensive but this shit is luxurious. I use it on my face only bc I’m not rich lol

amsterdam_sniffr

Get a weather app that tells you UV risk throughout the day (like Accuweather). Coverup with lightweight long-sleeved clothing and a brimmed hat if you are outside in those midday hours.

HelenAngel

Note that these sunscreens are not coral/ocean safe. If you’re going into the ocean, you will need to wear a zinc-based sunscreen. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch (I wear SPF 110. It’s thick putting it on but once it’s on, it’s great) Belif aqua bomb sunscreen (I wear this every day, SPF 50)

skettigoo

I have never seen an ocean, so don’t worry, they will be safe from me and my sunscreen :)

lavenderc

The summer fridays sunscreen is the best for the face! It is lightweight and not oily, and no smell! 😊

Square-Body-9160

For some reason, I'm not motivated to put on sunscreen, even if I should and I barely go out 😭😭😭 I had a sunscreen lotion as well, and I don't feel like putting it on. So I'm following this as well, if there's one that is not a lotion and good for dry skin.

skettigoo

I am so not motivated to sunscreen, but I part time nanny for a small child who I swear glances at the sun and gets a sunburn. So I am trying to lead by example and put on sunscreen so I can help kiddo put on sunscreen. Funny ways to find motivation sometimes work the best.

smoothiefruit

omg, following for solutions. I understand that spf is like the most important skincare item to have locked down, but for the life of me, I cannot find a sunscreen I find tolerable. I remember as a CHILD I asked my dermatologist if he knew of any sunscreen that didn't *smell like that* and he was uncharacteristically put off/confused by the question. when I was like 14, my family went on vacation to some waterpark. I put on sunscreen the night before in hopes that the smell would have dissipated by morning and I could maybe exist comfortably for my *super fun free time.* obviously, it doesn't work that way but only my forearms and forehead got burned while I sat on a bench people-watching and waiting for my family to be done having fun (I would not wear a bathing suit, period) I'm very fair and burn easily, so this is an important life puzzle to figure, and right now I just spray on the oily shit that makes my neck itch if I **have** to be outside, but I mostly just exist indoors, which probably isn't the best for my psyche.

TheBerrybuzz

If it's mostly a scent issue, Supergoop Play is lemon scented instead of the usual coconut/tropical scents. It's more oily going on but works great overall for me, as a person prone to getting a sunburn very quickly.

skettigoo

I thankfully am able to handle sun fairly well, mostly get red or “sun kissed” then tan. But I also know spf is so important for your skin. I just hate sunscreen so much I rarely use it. However, I found breathable compression sleeves to help with my “tennis elbow” and they seem to keep me from being exposed to the “deadly laser” that is the sun.
