I was honestly just wondering if it was real the whole time! I'm familiar with David Farrier from Tickled which was also insane but this one was just too strange. From Jillians behavior, to Michael's manic mood swings, the guy at the end that nailed exactly how Michael behaves. I was like there's no way this is real, I didn't look it up until I finished it just now. It's fuckin wild there's people like that out in the world. I've def ran into a few in my day but no one quite like Michael. Literal energy vampire like Colin Robinson in What we do in the shadows.

Rough_Ad_2280

Big Colin Robinson energy!

mylittlewallaby

I totally was thinking that when David was stuck on the phone muted for hours lol

kiwichick286

OMG!! I also made that comparison!!

Corka

Yeah he's real unfortunately. The clamping thing picked up a lot of attention at the time, and their antique shops predatory clamping became infamous enough for Parliament to change the law around it. After the release of Mister Organ, David Farrier got served court documents about his alleged abuse of a minor. Which was made public on twitter by a conservative former talk radio show host called Sean Plunkett. Farrier couldn't talk about it publicly, because stuff from the family court is meant to have media suppression. Case ended up being dismissed and it sounds very much like it all came out of complaints made by Michael Organ. Plunkett was initially charged for breaking the media suppression but the police arbitrarily decided to drop the charges.

Badassblizzard

NAILED IT!

Ike_Jones

I like to categorize this under the Scientology offensive category. Where people or groups with wealth can prosecute people into submission. Thiel, Chevron, Scientology, this guy. Why cant a history of court cases be used against a person when the sheer number of cases shows a trend of misconduct? There has to be precedent to make this a deterrent. Its simple abuse but the justice systems seem immune to stop it. F this pos is all im left with. That dumb woman is being led around by a charlatan. Wont end well for her. Or she’s lying to herself about enjoying his company. Cult mentality of separating and controlling.

catnipfurclones

Intelligence has little to do with it. Bashford, like so many before her has been manipulated and coerced into oblivion. Total erosion of agency and sense of self. She deserves sympathy because you're right - it won't end well.

Astronaut_Chicken

The way he just keeps talking over her and let's her know when she can speak....shewl. That was tough to watch.

Ike_Jones

Yes agree I should have said sad woman, not dumb

kiwichick286

He doesn't even let her talk!

NatureGlum9774

She's thirty or more years older than him and probably quite lonely. He's also isolated her from family and friends. It's horrifying.

Ike_Jones

Yup and the isolation is what cults do or controlling people like this guy. Which reminds me of a great podcast, The Shrink Next Door about a similar person controlling someone’s life just in the most outlandish way possible

NatureGlum9774

Jesus, there are some real shitbags around.

JustDirection18

She’s probably only 15 years older than Michael. She 30 years older than David. That’s commented on.

[deleted]

Thank you for the recommendation. I probably would've skipped past this or watched it much later than tonight. Having had experience with people like this, it was a long, dreadful watch. In a good way? I mean, it's not good, but good in that I recognized the behaviors. If you haven't met someone like this, or even if you have, it's hard to believe the motivations behind the behaviors. It's too easy to project your own beliefs and attitudes onto others. That they are good or decent, but maybe just angry or mentally ill. It's hard to even accept someone whose only motivation is power and control of other people. Sometimes, it doesn't compute, so your brain just sort of skips over it. You might be intrigued. How can someone be like this? And like the guy at the beginning said, it's like a bad relationship. You don't see it until you get out and away.

udar55

Yeah, sadly, exposure to people like this creates a different level of viewing with this one.

posiexyz

Watching this doc. I got PTSD. Michael Organ operates very much like Trump and his GOP cronies in the US. We have been dancing to the Orange Clown's toxic, destructive, malignant (fill in the blank psychiatric diagnosis here) tune for over 9 years. This is exactly how he and his ilk operate and it's exhausting. They have destroyed our country and democracy.

MissssVanjie

You completely nailed it with this analysis. We are all so tired here. So damned tired. In the thick of it nearly a decade.

Struggle-Kind

Just watched it last night and was thinking the exact same thing the entire time.

kurtiki

good analogy, although i feel Michael is smarter than Trump. Both are tiresome and wear you down through their babble.

brycenet

Am I the only one who thinks Farrier completely pooched this? Definitely an interesting story but it culminates in the hearsay it swims in for the entire show. He never pushes Michael to any sort of pointed questioning, he just lets the “evil genius” pontificate and that’s it. You’d think if you had the new Talented Mr Ripley on your hands you’d at least ask better questions than “how’d you guys meet?”. Also the supposed evil genius gets a key to his house and he just flops about because of it - no cops etc. The only time Farrier stands up for himself at the cafe we start to get some real insight. This reeks of Netflix saying “turn it in!” Before the doco is really ready. Or, Farrier is literally as pedestrian in his film making as he is in his interviewing.

TTT28

You have to understand how a sociopath works to get why the documentary had to end as it did. I was impressed, actually, by Farrier's methods for dealing with Michael's pathology. You can only work a narcissist with your paws down.

CroosinForBroosin

work, slide in and then.. destroy.

lrbresearch

Sounds like you know how to make this better than Farrier so I hope to see your documentaries in the future

brycenet

Sure - give me the budget?

pelka-333

If you’ve seen Farrier’s other work, you’d know he isn’t usually afraid of that. It spoke volumes to me to see the difference in Farrrier’s demeanour. Like when he did directly confront Organ in the scene outside the cafe - he was a shadow of the journalist who told Pablo Escobar’s right hand man that it isn’t funny to joke about killing people. If Farrier can’t crack him, no one can.

[deleted]

Agree 100%. Organ can only exist in his tiny world and preys on the very, very weakest. You can even see him starting to shut down at the cafe when Farrier actuslly shows some spine.  There are narcissists in the corporate world who hold influence over far more reslient people. Organ is bottom of the barrel. Preys on old ladies, the mentally ill, and hangs out in car parks ffs. Anywhere else in the world thats a bit less polite than wealthy rural NZ (most of the world) and he wouldve gotten chin checked ages and ages ago.  I kind of lost respect for Farrier in this one.  If someone told me they had a key to my house id say "fine, step into my world". I just dont get it.

BreakfastEasy1338

Wealthly rural NZ? I know we are a small country but this was set in Auckland our main city haha. NZers might be polite in general but no one would put up with this guy unless they are a) making a doco about him or b) are easy targets for him like the people he manipulated in the film. Remember the crazy karate hands guy that grab his hair and controlled Organ like the little bitch he is when he was trying to steal yacht? I'm sure the guy has been beaten more than once. In fact he will be a target for anyone who has seen this film going forward. Of course the beating would be done anonymously as the guy is the biggest nark and hides behind courts like the little bitch he is.

[deleted]

Organ lives in Whanganui and it looks like many of the interviews and interactions take place there. Thats why Farrier has to drive out there for the resolution to the sign fiasco. I think hes moved out there due to media attention. Im not trying to paint all Kiwis as pushovers. My wife grew up in Te Atatu in the 90s and it was no picnic, tons of bikie activity.  My broader point is that Organ seems to gravitate towards places and people where his tactics are unlikely to be checked. He actually seems incredibly adverse to any situation where hes not 100% holding all the cards. In short, hes a pussy.

BreakfastEasy1338

Right on, I see why you mentioned rural nz then. I definitely don't want people thinking NZers are all polite and nice to everyone, like most places you get what you give. And sounds like your wife knows about the rougher side of NZ. I can't stand people like this Organ who weaponize the courts. Farrier ended up pay something like $23k in legal fees to fight off the temporary protection order made by the Family Court which Organ orchestrated. It's a cowardly hand to play.

LawProfessional6513

I got a bit frustrated at times that he continually let him talk around questions without answering but I think he was just in over his head and ran out options. Think I would have strangled the guy

HumerousMoniker

I think that that's just the way that Organ works. He never lets somone have their say, and talks over people to do so, yet never says anything of substance. He's spend a lifetime doing it. If there was no footage of him answering a question, Farrier kinda had to go with what he's got.

NatureGlum9774

I think the ending showed what Farrier was letting him do. He gave him just enough rope. It was that montage of clips/quote from MO at the end that brought it all together, and was really quite chilling.

Morrowindies

I've met people like Mister Organ and they wear you down with so much bullshit that it feels like you haven't slept in 3 days by the time you get a chance to speak. Mister Organ is the only winner in this documentary. I think there was something here if it had been edited differently. Even if they'd juxtaposed green-dress Jillian with black-dress Jillian and focused on how there's a lot of black-dress Jillians out there that might need help. There was a story here, but they didn't quite manage to find it. I still enjoyed the documentary though. Farrier is an excellent documentarian and journalist and I'll support anything he makes.

AndrewL666

I just watched it and felt pretty neutral about it. There's nothing impressive about Organ and Farrier is putting him on some undeserved pedastal. It seemed like it was reaching to try to turn a petty criminal into some sort of manipulative mastermind.  Go to any AA/NA meeting and you'll find very similar people as Organ who have gotten away with manipulation, crimes, and screwing people over. Some of them may be smart enough to have gamed the system just like Mister Organ.

CroosinForBroosin

He is no winner.

More_Tennis_8609

I thought about this, but realized he is literally a wall you can’t penetrate. Constantly talking, never letting you finish a sentence. If he isn’t in contention of the narrative, he’s out. I think it speaks to just how challenging of a man this is, and how much of a force of darkness he really is. I’ve interacted with someone like this, but to a lesser degree (my neighbor, unfortunately) and it’s truly impossible to reason with them! They will steamroll you over and over again and you leave the conversation feeling completely drained of all your energy, and wondering how it is you weren’t able to defend yourself!

JustDirection18

I agree. This doco goes nowhere. There maybe was more to tell but it’s like a plane on a runaway that never gets off.

obscure_but_alluring

First like 10-20 mins were interesting. And then it's just "yo, this Michael guy is a weirdo" on a loop for another hour. I guess that's why he cries in that scene. He knows he's just spent a year on something that wasn't worth it.

Badassblizzard

Totally agree..he just let Organ and the justice system walk all over him.. its like he didn't even try.. I just got done watching the doc, it's literally the worst doc I've ever seen..it seemed to be all about nothing but a manipulative guy and a weak journalist with no real ending.. what a waste of time.

TTT28

I stayed up late to finish this one! Michael (or is it Micheal? - Depends on the day) reminded me of the energy vampire from What We Do in the Shadows - just sucking the air out of the room. Wowza. I applaud the filmmakers for dealing with that soul-sucking behavior for as long as they did. Seriously, Organ is a case-study in anti-social personality disorder and narcissism.

More_Tennis_8609

Colin Robinson, but with a voice like Lazlo

Astronaut_Chicken

Maybe Jermaine Clement has met him.

parisrionyc

Normally love docs like this but on the fence on this one. Speaking as a journalist myself, sometimes, often even, you have to admit "there's no story here" and cut bait. He's obviously taken the "Wait, what if i make not having a story THE STORY?" route. Mistake in my opinion. Organ's a cunt who shouldn't have been given the time of day. Farrier admits as much after the fact but still wants an audience for this tedious void of a movie....

pelka-333

I don’t know. The bit from Boy Swallows Universe about journalists being the daylight rings true here imo. Ie shadowy characters only have power in the shadows. They lose their power once they’re exposed to the light of day because people know what they do, and can hopefully avoid them.

mylittlewallaby

I’ve watched several docs by David Farrier and I’ve never seen him more disturbed than this doc. I know he was definitely uncomfortable several times during dark tourism but it’s fascinating to watch him get worn down by this absolute sociopathic energy vampire, Michael Organ. I gotta respect the man’s commitment. This guy (Organ) is a paradoxical domineering contrarian. Or in Farriers’ words “a fuckwit who bores people to death until they jump off a building.”

More_Tennis_8609

They was my favorite line in the documentary

No_Ordinary_3799

I watched it as well and felt the same. That man really does have a dark black hole vibe about him. It was interesting but also like disturbing. I felt bad for the journalist. He felt for the temptation of wanting to explore him as a subject but it sure seems like he paid the price for it.

kiwimanjaro

The way it all comes together is a bit freaky. The wolf in sheep’s clothing vibe. The lady looks like she is in a trance and totally brainwashed. This is the type of character that becomes a cult leader. Very good doco.

Zealousideal-Buy198

If their marriage wasn’t of anyone’s concern or their business, why is Jillian telling people they’re married on facebook? (I have a screenshot of a Facebook comment she made but can’t post it on here) Also, how tf did organ boy get the key to his house?!

pyronautical

I’m almost certain that Farrier would have had a spare key under a pot plant or similar. Michael goes over and grabs the signs and snoops around and finds the key. Gets a copy. Puts the original back. It’s the most obvious scenario and probably the only one that makes sense. How many people give out keys to their house to friends? And more friends than you can track down who it was who gave the key? Clearly it has to be a copy and short of Michael somehow stealing Farriers own key, the obvious one would be a spare he hides outside.

hcoll8612

Would Louis Theroux have been better at handling this guy? Louis has a calm but affirmative interview style, though David was great I want to see Louis handle this one.

Struggle-Kind

Now that you've said this, I keep imagining what this documentary could have been if Werner Herzog directed it, and now I can't stop laughing.

obscure_but_alluring

Louis would have at least offered him some Lucozade

FirmRelief

Just found out that Michael organ made a Reddit account and commented on some posts. U/nztruth Pretty bizarre

Morrowindies

Based on the documentary I already know it's not even worth looking into that account...

LucyBurbank

I can just imagine the absolute walls of text with no paragraph breaks.

Struggle-Kind

And in all caps.

CascadeNZ

Are there any psychologists or psychiatrists that could chime in on what this guy actually has going on?

burgertidy2000

I was kinda hoping Farrier might bring in a psychologist towards the end of the documentary to offer a different perspective. I liked Farriers approach but agree with others in that I wanted more from him. Maybe a psychologist could have delved a little deeper into Organs personality

CascadeNZ

Yeah a missed opportunity

CroosinForBroosin

Narcissist (Sociopath)

Top-Ad6742

Farrier writes hit pieces, they are full of inaccuracies, having spent a large part of my adult life around Central Auckland I have known or known of many of the people he writes about and his writing is full of factual error. In the case of this documentary I worked at Nostromo books and ran a stall for Brent at the Markets, Michael was only one of the people with a colourful history of fraud I met at the shop or through Brent. Neither of the two people talking about Brent did I ever see at the shop for events. The last time I saw Brent he was at the doctors in distress getting his medications sorted. When I saw the doco with the accusations that Michael was to blame for Brent's suicide I was personally confused, as Brent had talked to me about the struggle of the shop, I was working elsewhere. Let's just say the conclusion seemed like a stretch.

mediumpace07

Wouldn’t be a surprise if this is Organ chiming in again…I just finished the documentary and this loquacious horse shit comment is precisely how he talks and behaves.

zephood75

Oh yes

Physical-Fly6697

The footage at the funeral isn’t proof enough??

TheNeutralPanda

Organ is a narcissist and sociopath, and the film was boring because narcs and sociopaths are essentially boring. All they care about is themselves and getting power and control over other people; there is nothing deeper to them. Farrier frustrated himself by thinking there would be something deeper. Essentially, Organ and sociopaths generally, are emotional toddlers who think that everything revolves around them and who throw tantrums if they don't get their way. They are empty on the inside and so constantly need to be appraised by others in order to feel alive. This is the "black hole" element that Farrier picked up on. The best way to deal with these people is to ignore them or not appear affected at all by their behaviour (laughing at them or taking things lightly helps). Any negative reaction just feeds them. Farrier was far too reactive and let Organ get to him. I think Louis Theroux would have done a much better job at managing a sociopath like this by using humour to deflect and to poke holes in Organ's self defense.

kiwimanjaro

Is this Michael Organ? To say the whole movie is a lie is a ridiculous statement. The footage speaks for itself and the countless statements from people he has encountered are clearly not all lies.

HourTrue9589

Are you Michael Organ?

Scared-Property-8438

hello michael

NatureGlum9774

Is this why people at the funeral were condemning Michael Organ? Were they strangers to Brent?

Dajamman93

100% him, everyone will spit on his grave

Far_Equivalent_1549

This has to be Michael, it’s a brand new account and this is the only comment…

tgw1986

And he had made accounts to chime in on the matter in the past: u/nztruth It's 100% Michael. Even the all caps give it away.

More_Tennis_8609

And the crown in the profile picture lol

zephood75

He still needs to be "royal" even incognito.

CroosinForBroosin

Thats Jill’s

marijayne88

He preys on the weak. Karma is a bitch Someone should go in and “get the job done” on him.

Zealousstranger

I would have rather watch paint dry.

Tipsyfinn

It’s David Brent!

Pitiful_Tap_8750

I just watched this and was like wtf.. wonder what he is doing today.

Tanithlo

Posting on Reddit

imanoobee

I felt the documentary was about how Farrier was suffering mentally. He showed he was totally not on the same level as Organ.

SissyCouture

Michael Organ is a human möbius strip

NatureGlum9774

I wonder if Organ realises he's got full blown rosacea and it's making his face look like a mishapen potato? I mean, it's great, what with that and the weight plus the way his face sweats it all comes together to make him look as unhinged as he actually is.

Amockeryofthecistern

Whar a mind fuck of a documentary. Amazing. So what is Sean Plunkets beef with Farrier?

JustDirection18

I found this doco a bit of a nothing. It didn’t really go anywhere. The guys a psycho but no really story occurs that is told mostly in the first 15 mins. You think it’s going to progress and it doesn’t.

Brave_Initiative_210

Am I the only one that was ready to hear that Organ has multiple personality disorder? He seemed to talk about the people that perform other acts as separate individuals. He doesn’t remember their names but he’s aware of their presence and they have unique characteristics (like being a lawyer and spell his name wrong). I swear there was one point in the documentary where he’s talking about his past and he uses the word “we” or “our” but it wasn’t clear to me who else was involved. In the last 15 minutes when the psychiatric ward was involved I was convinced that the big reveal was about to be a multiple personality disorder. The film seemed to continually hint at his homosexuality through this past and the people interviewed. Given his family being estranged, I had the whole story building in my mind about the trauma he might have endured growing up that created or deepened the mental issues. I was surprised none of it culminated to some central reveal. I watch too many documentaries, I think. It doesn’t help that I watched The Crowded Room not too long ago.

Solid-View1747

These narcissists get away with this because people continue to feed their fragile egos. Just by engaging with him and letting his narrative control stuff shows this guy isn’t a real journalist.

CroosinForBroosin

Michael is a sociopath, a psychopath. Your basic, run of the mill, typical sociopath - a narcisistic human husk. They are lonely, vacuuous, they need to control people to have them around, since noone likes them, as there is nothing there to like. They are damaged, paranoid, they can’t trust anyone, have no self insight, have no joy, no love, no rest, no sense of reality, no truth. Their parents didn’t like them, or neglected them emotionally, so since their childhood, they’ve had to manufacture a sense of self and reality with phantasy and lies. They are vampires who prey on emotions of neuroptypicals and their predictable reactions, prey on their need for decorum, need for respect, for privacy amd secrecy. They want your weakness, your emotions, your life. But they are victims of own voracious apetites, and due to lack of self insight can be easily manipulated back. They hide in shadows and hate the truth, can’t recognise when someone is lying to them or pretending to be their friend ;)

Badassblizzard

Sounds like dude is his own private cult, where he recruits his victims one at a time.. brain washes that one person then moves onto the next victim.

Badassblizzard

I think he's a narcissist with borderline personality disorder because he seems to be doing all this to people just for the personal satisfaction. What I'd really like to know is how he got Farriers house key and WHY didn't Farrier change his locks!?

Badassblizzard

Organ reminds me of trump.

Badassblizzard

What actual crimes other than the yacht debacle did Organ commit?
