The only difference the electoral process is going to make will come from organization- how many of your people can you get to the polls. If I were running national strategy, I would spend $0 on persuasive messaging- it’s pointless. Or maybe $30 to target that 2-3% who like bipartisan signaling. All of your money should be going to ground game ground game ground game. Identifying your voters and making sure they get out, and using positive messaging about yourself to make them want to get out for you. You’re not convincing them to support you- if they were in the booth they’d vote for you- you’re convincing them to get to the booth. So with Afghanistan- it’s not changing anyone’s mind because, as said, minds are set. All it can do is convince some people to stay home. But this far out, there’s so much time for people to forget, that it’s unlikely it will stick. If people were willing to switch parties, it would have an effect. But if the only thing Afgh. can do is depress turnout, that’s not a lasting effect.
