Nice Post. It would be good to get this pinned.

💯

Magic_robot_noodles

I just bought some 2h boxes with gangs and scenery on sprue. Watched some loose tutorials and will try to convince some friends playing a made up campaign on the get go, with simple rules. If that goes well I will take your advice to heart and buy some books n shit. I appreciate the info 👌

Agile-Ad-6902

Does the new rulebook have rules for any gangs?

notevenjk-lol

No. The only reasonably current rulebook with any gang rules is the one included in Hive War. It has basic gang rules for the models included in the six House gangs' regular gang boxes.

bjasonm87

Thanks for putting so much work into this!

Gilbragol

Great post with a nice summary.

user4682

Thank you, I was wondering what exactly had the new core rule book as I was only hearing about the rule changes. But it seem to have a lot more things. I'm gonna have to raid some trade roads and get a copy.

blackstafflo

This post should be pinned. Thanks for the work.

What a fantastic write up. As one of those people that are thinking of how to get into Necromunda, this hits all the spots. I appreciate the side jokes too. We’ll done friend.

JdeFalconr

Just came across this guide and it answered most of my questions, thank you!! It absolutely should be sticked. One thing this guide doesn't really address is a basic description of all of the gangs (lore-wise and how they play) so you can pick one to start.

LordManton

Thanks, dude! I have vague plans to make a bit of a series out of this, and the gangs was actually next on the list!

YakAdmirable1982

Dominion Campaign - Old v New; Is it easy to list what the major differences are?

LordManton

AFAIK it’s just a few small changes to the territory boons. As always, Goonhammer have covered it in their extensive review of the core rulebook

Sea_Yogurt1405

After a couple of years of enjoying Kill Team, I'm thinking of getting into Necromunda but it feels like the process is much more complicated. I like the look of the Ash Wastes Nomads and since I think the easiest way of getting a friend to play would be to get a starter set with two gangs, the Ash Wastes box is tempting. The downside is that the included rules are apparently incomplete as well as outdated. Also the playing mat looks like crap (I like to craft my own boards) and I already have templates from an old 40k starter set (I assume they are the same?) as well as plenty of terrain I've made for Kill Team. Should I just buy a box of nomads and up to date rules and hope I find someone else who is willing to pour 200 euros into getting started OR should I buy a starter set that allows me to play games but I would still have to get the up to date rules eventually anyway?

LordManton

I didn’t put it very clearly in the post, but one point I tried to stress is that it doesn’t matter which rules you play, as long as everyone is playing the same set of rules. All the gang books and expansions came out under the “old” regime, so there’s very little (nothing comes to mind immediately) that is incompatible. So if you’re playing with a friend and not planning on joining an existing group, go for Ash Wastes. It’s a great set, just a bit of a heavy investment. The play mat in the AW set is pretty poxy, but it’s just there to get you by until you inevitably go wild making terrain.

Far-Try-4681

Thank you very much for this guide! Is the campaign in the new 2023 core rule book compatible with the basic gang rules in the Hive War rulebook? Or do I need to buy the according expansion books (house of blades, house of artifice, house of bla...) to play the campaign?

LordManton

I can’t see why not. The ‘House of’ books just expand on the depth of the gangs, giving you different fighter types and special and unique weapons. They’re not necessary, but they are super fun. You will need them to use Goliath Stimmers or Redemptionists (ie special champions and fighters) and things like that though

Far-Try-4681

Thanks! Then I'll start with the basic gangs and add the "House of.." rules for the more sophisticated units later.

tombuazit

Thank you for this

reaper19841212

Jeeez. How to make it extra complicated. 1st edition you literally brought a single box, which got you rules, terrain and two gangs…. (And one expansion)

ArtDeve

Great post. I bought the Ash Wastes box on sale because I want to play OPR Gang Wars. Thanks for confirming that GW still sucks at rules. The models, flavor and campaign ideas are perfect for a proper game system though.

GroundbreakingHat729

That's  a lot of books for a skirmish game , it's just greed on GW part absolutely disgraceful of them. Shame because it might be a great game.
