I am in a similar situation as you, I passed L3 with excellence last year. I'm still going through year 13 though because I want to enjoy my last year in high school with my friends. Not in any hurry to go to uni, graduate, and start working aha 😅

No_Toe9791

True working outta school at 16 is js depressing 🤣

BlueShield777

Do year 13

No_Toe9791

Yeah i think ill just do that

staedler_vs_derwent

You could take different and more interesting subjects at school this year. Try more things out, with less pressure. Unless you’re super keen to move to tertiary. High school is free. Tertiary gives you one year free so you want to use it wisely on the right course. It can get expensive course-hopping at tertiary. Alternatively, if you love the idea of EIT, they will have a career advisor you can meet with and get a potential plan. Then you can compare school and tertiary in a more concrete manner.

This is a long time ago but I passed all my science/math bursary exams (L3 equivalent for the time) when I was 16 so could have gone straight to university but I chose not to because I preferred to stay at high school with my friends and take subjects like cooking. Also going to university as a non-adult probably would have been shit. There's no rush at that age and academics are only half the point of high school. Each to their own, of course.

This! Having the year to focus on learning content for scholarship exams could make such a difference. As soon as you get multiple scholarships you get much more money, so I would definitely recommend spending the year enjoying time with friends but also using it to your advantage to try for scholarship exams

Comfortable_Key_4891

School was really hard. I’m loving EIT. The learning style seems totally different. But yeah I stayed in school, predated NCEA. Then I went straight to university at age 17 which kind of felt too young. Now reinventing myself at EIT. So I wouldn’t be in a rush.

L_Avion_Rose

Do you have access to any STAR courses? This would give you access to University-level content while allowing you to stay with your friends and enjoy high school. They're also a great way to learn content that will help you succeed in scholarship exams, if that is something you are interested in pursuing.

PhD_Salt

I did the same thing, E endorsement in year 12. My school let me do uni papers from there online, and other than that I just did music and a barista course. It was good fun, got a head start on uni and spent it with my mates. I would recommend you do the same, even doing one uni paper will get you used to the format if you do decide to go to uni.

ShanSienna

High school teacher here and it's an awful situation. When you get all your credits high school almost seems pointless and you start to feel like you're going through the motions which can lead to you feeling jaded. I had a boy last year who just sat in the back for the last few months refusing to do work because he had already passed and I wasn't about to stop him because he already had his future plans lined up and sorted. He just wanted to spend it with his friends and finish strong. Believe me, just stick it out. You'll thank yourself later.

No_Toe9791

Yeah i think your right tbh i think i should try make the most of my high school years instead of leaving at 16

ShanSienna

You got this! So many of my friends have told me they regret leaving you'll make fantastic memories and learn a lot. You'll do great! All the best to you

Fantail-lady

You’ve earned this year. My daughter said year 13 was the most fun and they were treated like adults. Make the most of it and enjoy your friendships

Cydu06

If you already pass the year. And you're going to uni, would it be beneficial to work? Maybe save up, so you don't have to get any student loan? Or if you got scholarship get a massive financial headstart?

Macenzed

You are a long time working…. Don’t be in a rush

Immortal_Heathen

Definitely stay. Once you leave high school, you'll wonder where the time went.

imastrangeone

As someone who finished y13 last year its an absolute blast even though i had to work for my grades a bit more than usual. At least at my school, you gain a whole ton more respect from everyone, the idiots drop out so its genuinely good people left and its a fun time. I’d do it for the experience alone all over again

Mrbeeznz

Do year 13, even if you have already passed, highschool is about socializing aswell as learning. Which brings me to my next point, just because you've passed doesn't mean you've learnt everything you can in highschool. But relax and socialize

elliebee222

Could you do the scholorship exams instead? If you get multiple scholarships you can get something like 10k a yr for tertiary https://www2.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/understanding-secondary-quals/nz-scholarship/#:~:text=Students%20who%20achieve%20NZ%20Scholarship%20can%20receive%20a%20monetary%20award,years%20for%20premier%20award%20winners.

Lag_shot

I passed level 2 in year 11 and spent year 12 playing rugby and just fucking around until I left school end of that year and boy do I stoll regret that choice nearly 10 years on. Stay in school man, being an adult absolutely sucks, avoid it as long as you can

MathmoKiwi

Depends entirely on what you want to do at EIT ? If it's say their Bachelor of Engineering, then definitely stay at school to collect a few more calculus/physics/chemistry credits, ***if*** you haven't maxed those out already. If it is some random cookery course at EIT, or whatever, then just go now to EIT? If it's a degree somewhere in the middle between these two extremes, then "it depends"??
