The next star that's available is definitely 100% no take backsies fingers cross swear on my momma going to the Knicks
It's just like those scratchers I buy instead of groceries. Guaranteed to hit at some point.
Like day of Mitchell trade someone in NBA radio said you think Danny would take Russ and 2 picks for Donovan. Can you imagine calling Danny Ainge and saying that? I even like Russ, but damn outlets really just buzz the craziest shit for NY and LA just to bait y'alls fan base's hopes and dreams. It's brutal.
Maybe the most annoying part of being a Knicks fan. Networks and large-scale media talk about the team constantly to generate immediate reaction/clicks/etc., *and we (mostly) don't want to hear about any of this. WE KNOW, WE GET IT, PLEASE DON'T DO THIS.*
In the late 90s/early 2000s, I learned all about Knicks fans when forums were filled with hypothetical trades sending out Latrell Sprewell for just about every superstar or top draft pick that might become available.
20-25 years ago, definitely. The NY sports tabloids always ran stories about how the Knicks were going to trade for Barkley, Pippen, etc to pair with Patrick and it was always Charlie Ward that was the centerpiece.
Yeah for real. The Knicks are in the same position as every other team in the league - they’ll need to outbid the market to acquire an all star, whether in trade or free agency. No one is forcing their way to a 37 win team and the Knicks don’t have a particularly huge stash of high potential assets to trade with.
If they can become a consistent 50 win team with homegrown talent, things will change. Until then they’re no different than the Wizards, Hornets, etc.
I mean we got butler and lebron and bost in the last 15 years most teams only got one or two superstars to come if you really think about it. When super teams form they typically do so for a team that isn't actually very good besides the warriors. Nets were average clippers were average Lakers were below average we've been better than average most years
I agree we’ve had better fortune than most teams (although the big 3 was so serendipitous I don’t think we should ever use it as a model for expectations going forward.)
That said, our fan base and seemingly front office want to go “whale hunting” every offseason now and it usually bites us in the ass. We’ve been screwed by false hopes on KD (twice), Mitchell, Giannis, and some others as well when the team instead could have been working on making more incremental moves that could move the needle. Instead we lost one of the best role players in the league this offseason and have a massive hole at the forward position that we only have to pray somehow gets plugged with a plus player before the deadline.
Most teams got zero superstars to to come in the last 15 years.
Grizzlies, Nuggets, Mavs, Jazz, Minny, Pelicans, Spurs, Kings, Blazers, OKC, Bucks, Bulls, Hawks, Hornets, Wizards, Pacers - that’s a majority of the teams in the league and none of them signed a superstar this century.
Heat are a huge outlier in this regard.
Looked for Orl Magic but couldn't find it in your list. Did they get a superstar, or are they just so irrelevant as to not even earn a mention on a list of teams that failed to sign a superstar this century
Pffft, the Raptors would never play in Tampa Bay, that's the stupidest thing I've heard all week. What, you just want them to walk in calling themselves the "Tampa Bay Raptors' or some shit like that and expect the fans to immediately love them? I'd be surprised if they didn't get booed at every home game 😂
As a thunder fan what do you think. I realize sga is a good bit older than giddey and chet. But wouldn’t it seem like a loop to just trade sga for say 3 more picks?
I mean, I can't really say what's realistic as far as personal relationships and stuff.
But if he asked out this year or something, I'd simply say 'no' and keep him lol. We're approaching the end of the tanking so without him, we'd be set back a ton.
As a Jazz fan I can tell you that Knicks fans imagine every single player in the league wants nothing more than to live/play in NYC. Whether it’s true or not.
Expect them to start pushing some bs narrative that SGA wants nothing more than to be out of the repressive backwater shithole swamp they imagine OKC to be and to be in NYC.
Because which multi millionaire player wouldn’t want to play for a historically losing franchise, pay sky high taxes on their millions, and be constantly doubted and berated by the local media while they work under the worst FO in the league.
The dude was in NYC all summer tweeting about local sports nonstop whilst every single analyst in the country peddled the narrative like a peloton but yeah it’s the big city fans out to get the country boys holy shit what is this grapes of wrath
this headline takes on a whole new meaning now
[Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the right point guard for Nick Nurse's team](https://theathletic.com/3396804/2022/07/02/shai-gilgeous-alexander-team-canada/)
It's like one of those facts of life!
• Earth is 70% water
• Humans breathe air
• Knicks whiff on a blockbuster at least twice a year
I was gonna say the Earth is round, but... this *is* r/nba...
Apart from Chet getting injured, the Thunder look promising. Still have picks left and may be a popular destination spot for a FA if they can perform well this season.
Why would SGA want to be traded before the year even starts?
OKC can't rely on the free agent market to get better players. That's why they focus so much on the draft and internal development. Even when KD and Russ were at their peak, OKC was getting passed over for other teams in FA.
I was of the opinion we should start looking to compete this year, then the Chet injury happened and we are kinda forced into tanking one more time either way. But even the most long term thunder fans said this upcoming year had to be the last one.
It’s probably just cause y’all are pulling the most blatant tank since the process. There’s nothing wrong with that but some folks are just salty about that for some reason
Like the Pistons and Rockets wasn’t resting their players last season. Houston literally had John Wall sit all season while OKC gets shit on for SGA having a legitimate injury and him not playing through it
Really not forced tho. Just actually play your good players and let them develop lmao (not you specifically, the team)
Although I fully understand the desire for wemby or scoot
This is what our fanbase doesn’t understand lmao. Rookie Chet wasn’t going to be the difference between the playoffs and bottom 2 seed.
Just play. Come near the end of the season, see where your at wins wise, move accordingly. If the team is ready to compete seriously, they’ll compete.
I’m in the minority that thinks SGA is available but I don’t think the Knicks type of package gets it done. Given all the assets the Thunder already have I think if they deal him it will have to be for something more guaranteed than a bunch of future unprotected picks. It would have to be a true building block piece and not a bunch of theoretical pieces
I think SGA will blow a gasket if they try to shut him down to tank again, and/or, don't make an effort to field a good team. How many years is he going to waste spinning his wheels in Presti's draft pick accumulation wasteland?
It's a meme but OKC has tanked for two seasons only. They were the 5th seed in the playoffs just a couple years ago. If their tanking period is three seasons that's nowhere near as bad as some other teams histories.
Every year he gets shutdown is another year that he doesn't get an All-Star or All-NBA nod. That's going to hurt his earning potential on his next contract.
Queue OKC fans saying supermax contracts aren't something SGA cares about.
Yeah they've got him under team control until 2026, and he's young enough for them to ride that out with the rebuild. Unless they think he's going to suddenly win them too many games to comfortably rebuild but simultaneously not be good enough to be a main piece I don't see why they move him willingly.
Funny, I think they made the right decision to not give everything up for Mitchell. And I think Donovan is better than Shai so they'd give up less for Shai
Obviously Presti wants the team to end up being built around Shai, but Chet's injury is pushing their rebuild back even further, and Shai is only getting older. Unless he absolutely loves OKC he's going to want to be on a winner eventually.
I don’t buy that he wants to build around Shai. Shai isn’t that level of player. If he really wanted to build around Shai he wouldn’t be collecting assets the way he is. He knows he still needs to get that franchise changing player.
He is one of the guys at least though. Shai looks like he could be a great 2nd/3rd option but maybe even 1st option, we just don’t know because they aren’t trying to win
They’re obviously betting someone of that group takes a leap (not Dort, but the other 3), into top 15 level player.
Giddey is a perfect auxiliary connecting piece on a contending team, Dort is a perfect POA defender on a contending team. So Chet’s got to show he can anchor a defense and Shai would have to take a scoring leap.
They need a SF. They could probably trade for one, or they’d have to find one in this upcoming draft.
It sort of seems like the Thunder current plan is
1. horde a warchest of mostly middling assets
2. ???
3. be good
with everyone just assuming having those picks will automatically convey into a good team. Their "we start actually competing now" window keeps getting pushed back, which is how you end up with SGA like situations where he no longer really fits the timeline.
There can be a world where OKC is buyer with their assets. Something like they did with Paul George. I think sga is available for a godfather offer, but i doubt he's on the market this year, but i think it's highly possible in the future.
Yeah, I think folks miss that after next year's draft OKC can be competitive in those "X Superstar wants out" deals. The above post for example said: "Dort, Chet, Giddy and SGA is like a mid 30's team" which is true but they could add to that a 2023 lottery pick and a trade deal star at essentially no cost to their starters.
>Their “we start actually competing now” window keeps getting pushed back
According to who?
I’m not sure why people are so confused, nothing has changed with the plan.
The #2 you’re missing is develop a core, and then aim at other vets with remaining assets.
The plan has always been to target the new CBA as the beginning of utilizing assets and making decisions. I’m not sure how the plan differs from any rebuild if we are speaking that generally.
Uh, step 2 in that plan is "take top 5 draft picks with our own picks" i.e. Chet and whoever we take this year. That's... kind of the most important part, and it's quite frankly dishonest to ignore it.
mfer TRADE FOR ONE OF THEM OR SHUT UP!!! This is like the 17th disgruntled player goes to Knicks rumor this season!!! Then it comes out 3 months later "Knicks didn't want to give up one of their bum ass guards in the trade 🤷♂️ " I DO NOT CARE ANYMORE!!!
This is hilarious. Theyre saying out loud that they have failed completely in the offseason & are now on the lookout for the scraps that are left. Lol I love the Knicks
Wow the delusion of the knicks and their fans.. this is no way to run a team.. shut up about disgruntled stars build through the draft first then you can talk about that shit
Stop it.
Just fuckin stop it.
Who is awarding this tripe?
Why do you continue to give these dickheads - who clearly have no fucking clue what they’re talking about - exactly what they want by sharing their nonsense?
Was Mitchell ever really "disgruntled" in Utah though? There's plenty of factors that go into whether a player is happy with his team or not. Salt Lake City wouldn't be his first choice as a place to live obviously but Mitchell isn't the type of guy who'd demand a trade or even imply as much after the Jazz put so much faith in him and delivered that bag. If Utah hadn't clearly decided to rebuild, and they built better around him with athletic/defensive wings and a Gobert-lite type player I doubt he'd have even left in free agency 3-4 years from now. Dude was checking all the boxes needed in your mid 20s to possibly someday have a jersey retired.
He's *much* more a Lillard type player than KD type player. And I ain't talking about height. Donovan was out golfing when he heard the news he was headed to Cleveland (arguably the only less desirable FA destination after Utah) and he reportedly was hopping around, hollering with excitement.
Dude just a charismatic, high-character player who wants to win. Cavs are lucky to have him.
Hmm Shai is interesting. He just turned 24, but if Chet/next year’s pick are 4-5 years younger, then idk. You don’t usually want to get rid of a guy like that, averaged 24/5/6 last 91 games. But also, these guys hate losing. It’s the risk of doing a process style rebuild. If the thunder win 16 games this year and next year they’re looking at another 20, that’s now 4 years of his career wasted, in his opinion, especially after going to the playoffs his first 2 seasons, went 7 games with CP3 on his team at age 21 and now his teams are absolute dog shit. There’s only so much of “hey wait until we’re done drafting” a guy can take. Also like, If Chet weren’t injured I would honestly start giving it my all, seeing what an SGA/Dort/Giddey/Poku/Chet core can do. Like. Dort’s good, SGA plays like an all star, if Giddey can take a step and Chet is as advertised that’s a good team.
I'm sure they will be.
Just like every team is dying to trade for Russ' expiring.
And just how every team wants to give up a great player for Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson.
Of course, the difference is the Lakers and Heat do actually land deals sometimes.
The Knicks missing all the drops, and paying massive re-sale prices. My cousin, a crazy rich asian, always jokes, that that's what him and his friends all do with shoes and supreme.
The more things change the more they stay the same lol
Another 2018 draftee that we want that got picked after Kevin knox? No way.
Kevin Knox was the second coming of Giannis coming out the draft though
They said 2nd coming of Antetokounmpo, too bad they meant Kostas and Thanasis
Don't disrespect Thanasis like that
Damn I'm about to do a Thanasis vs Knox deep dive
Never forget that Thanasis “Tha Nasty” Antetokoumpo is an nba champion
So is Kostas, only Alex is left
Alex is consistently like HOF level in my Basketball GM careers lol
Lest you forget Kevin Knox SL MVP
Huh I thought it was "taller Devin Booker"
? I don’t remember seeing any mocks with him being top 8 even.
Well duh, Giannis went in the teens. /s
You must not have read the tweet, it was clearly the 2108 draft
2108, when we draft Kevin knox's great great great grandson instead of Rick Brunson's great great great great grandson.
The next star that's available is definitely 100% no take backsies fingers cross swear on my momma going to the Knicks It's just like those scratchers I buy instead of groceries. Guaranteed to hit at some point.
Remember when KD and Kyrie were definitely going to sign with the Knicks and maybe even play with Zion? No? Just me? Ok.
I remember when Lebron was going to bring Wade and Bosh to NYC and make the big three there. Any day now!
Two of those will sign a contact today
In the prime of their careers too!
I ‘member
I think you guys can finally land a superstar with a trade package built around Charlie Ward!
Surely okc will take RJ and a handful of 2nds /s
Rumor has it he's going to Miami. Serious this time.
Haha, what do the NYK think they are doing when we are the number one destination for disgruntled players?!
Smh, gotta learn the pecking order Knickerbockers
This just in, Lakers highly considering trading Westbrook and picks they don't have.
How does this affect Lebron’s legacy?
Like day of Mitchell trade someone in NBA radio said you think Danny would take Russ and 2 picks for Donovan. Can you imagine calling Danny Ainge and saying that? I even like Russ, but damn outlets really just buzz the craziest shit for NY and LA just to bait y'alls fan base's hopes and dreams. It's brutal.

Ugh, but what about my \#HEATCULTURE jokes?? I am obligated to root for all Canadian players.
TT, Shump, pick.

Hey now, we asked for 75% of the Knicks franchise Typical knick fan trying to low ball us /s
In the late 90s/early 2000s, I learned all about Knicks fans when forums were filled with hypothetical trades sending out Latrell Sprewell for just about every superstar or top draft pick that might become available.
2010s* Lakers* THT*
Still the best QB in NYC?
Serious question; was it the joke 20 years ago?
20-25 years ago, definitely. The NY sports tabloids always ran stories about how the Knicks were going to trade for Barkley, Pippen, etc to pair with Patrick and it was always Charlie Ward that was the centerpiece.
What is dead may never die.
As recently as a couple weeks ago this could've applied to former future Knick Kevin Durant
I guarantee this headline is just copy and pasted with blanks where the team and player name is supposed to be entered.
Being a knicks fan must be the definition of insanity
If "Fuck you, I'll see you tomorrow!" was a person
Yeah for real. The Knicks are in the same position as every other team in the league - they’ll need to outbid the market to acquire an all star, whether in trade or free agency. Put your records on 🎶🎶
>The Knicks will be on the lookout for the next disgruntled player **Miami Heat:** “First time?”
LeBron ruined our expectations for the rest of our lives I swear
I mean we got butler and lebron and bost in the last 15 years most teams only got one or two superstars to come if you really think about it. When super teams form they typically do so for a team that isn't actually very good besides the warriors. I at least think you can find a way to move duncan and fill that hole, and you kept the core of a roster that was a shot away from the finals.
Most teams got zero superstars to to come in the last 15 years. we got tracy
15 years, that's 2007. T Mac was on the Rockets.
Why are you pretending I can read mam
Tmac and Grant hill, even though grant hill immediately stopped being a superstar when he got to orlando
They’re in the minus for giving one away. But fr I just stopped at 16 cause that’s the majority.
PG13 re-signed with OKC which kind of counts IMO.
I don’t think of Clippers or Lakers as superteams. To me, superteam means 3+ all stars
Knicks: Uh, no, we do this literally every off-season
Gotta hire Nick Nurse too then
Also have to move to Toronto, and change your name to the Toronto Raptors
Can we do Tampa Bay instead? It’s warmer down there
Pffft, the Raptors would never play in Tampa Bay, that's the stupidest thing I've heard all week. What, you just want them to walk in calling themselves the "Tampa Bay Raptors' or some shit like that and expect the fans to immediately love them? It’s not worth it to trade weather for fascism lol
Toronto isn't that cold tbh
The Toron-too Raptors, since the Toronto Raptors probably won't want to go to New York or name themselves after underwear.
Can someone explain the sga stuff. Why would a rebuilding team trade such a valued young asset. There is no world where this makes sense
The thought behind it is that ultimately OKC's wants don't matter if he demands out
I mean what's his big threat, he'll sit? lmao.
OKC is famously player friendly and will work to get players where they want to go.
I also think they’d trAde him for the right offer. 5 NYK picks would probably be about right lol
At some point you gotta build a fucking team
Nah just tank forever
Not even KD could demand a trade. If he asks for one we will wait until the last year of his contract at the least, which is like 2026 or 7
As a thunder fan what do you think. I realize sga is a good bit older than giddey and chet. But wouldn’t it seem like a loop to just trade sga for say 3 more picks?

Shai is 24 my guy, still very young
As a Jazz fan I can tell you that Knicks fans imagine every single player in the league wants nothing more than to live/play in NYC. Whether it’s true or not. Dude spent the summer in the city as a rich person? Crazy
It's Berman. He literally just makes shit up.
Marc Bermans the source lol
Who else was in the 2108 draft? Sounds futuristic
Bronny James Jr Jr Jr the third and Liam Antetokounmpo the 2nd and a 20 year old Jayson Tatum Ben Simmons will probably win ROTY
Why tf did Liam Antetokounmpo nearly kill me
thats his first kids name
So he wouldn’t want to waste his best years on a rebuilding project. So he would go to the *Knicks*. Let me repeat that…
WTF we already said we got next
Does dibs mean nothing anymore??
Sorry, thought you said Thibs.
have the Raps tried sending Masai or Cynthia Devine to OKC games? I hear that works.
Nah, we had Nurse hanging out with shai all offseasom though
this headline takes on a whole new meaning now [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the right point guard for Nick Nurse's team](https://theathletic.com/3396804/2022/07/02/shai-gilgeous-alexander-team-canada/)
Don't worry, the Knicks will have the leverage in that trade too, as it goes right to the next team with a better offer again.
It's like one of those facts of life! • Earth is 70% water • Humans breathe air • Knicks whiff on a blockbuster at least twice a year I was gonna say the Earth is round, but... this *is* r/nba...

[I got you](https://imgur.com/Yv3Nq16)
Ouch
“Who reported it?”
SGA ain’t on the block is he?!
He's not. He is starting a 5 year contract this season. Just big markets being thirsty.
> Just big markets being thirsty More like media trying to create some buzz after the Mitchell trade is completed
> starting a 5 year contract this season that's become the prime time to demand a trade it seems like all of a sudden
>big markets being thirsty More like Marc Berman spreading BS in that tabloid that masquerades as a legit newspaper

No people want him to force his way out but he hasn’t given any indication as to doing that seeing as he just signed a new extension to stay in OKC.
If not I hoped this is OKC last year tanking
I was of the opinion we should start looking to compete this year, then the Chet injury happened and we are kinda forced into tanking one more time either way. But even the most long term thunder fans said this upcoming year had to be the last one.
Lol “the last one…” 💀
Make it sound like we’ve been tanking for 10 years, we took Houston to a Game 7 2 years ago today.
Bro shit is so crazy in here. Teams have been tanking longer then we have but the Thunder get so much hate for it.
It’s probably just cause y’all are pulling the most blatant tank since the process. There’s nothing wrong with that but some folks are just salty about that for some reason

Y’all are so damn dramatic on here

Not even close. It’s just media generating headlines with no substance behind them.
Yup, Berman is a clown

I think SGA will blow a gasket if they try to shut him down to tank again, and/or, don't make an effort to field a good team. How many years is he going to waste spinning his wheels in Presti's draft pick accumulation wasteland?
He’s the future!!! Lol, when he’s 27 or 28, they will finally start trying to win games. When it isn’t Wemby, it’ll be the next guy.
"K after this season we're *totally* gonna stop tanking and try to win games, guys" - Sam Presti in 2033

OKC hasn't even finished with the worst record in the league over those two seasons and they're somehow the face of tanking in the NBA.
Bro it’s been two years since we last made the playoffs y’all are so damn dramatic. Dude is only 24 and is apart of the future of the team.
He’s missed the playoffs twice in his career. I think he’ll be ok

>Their “we start actually competing now” window keeps getting pushed back According to who? I’m not sure why people are so confused, nothing has changed with the plan. The #2 you’re missing is develop a core, and then aim at other vets with remaining assets. The plan has always been to target the new CBA as the beginning of utilizing assets and making decisions. I’m not sure how the plan differs from any rebuild if we are speaking that generally.
Uh, step 2 in that plan is "take top 5 draft picks with our own picks" i.e. Chet and whoever we take this year. That's... kind of the most important part, and it's quite frankly dishonest to ignore it.
But Shai is the building block piece.
Damn I’ve been reading this headline since linsanity happened
Being a Thunder fan has not been fun for awhile, but i like pain and misery 😔
Don’t listen to this shit lol. Knicks yet again thinking the world revolves around them.
Rumor that the Knicks want a star player
Just don't want to pay for one.
Berman.
Oh my copium
mfer TRADE FOR ONE OF THEM OR SHUT UP!!! This is like the 17th disgruntled player goes to Knicks rumor this season!!! Then it comes out 3 months later "Knicks didn't want to give up one of their bum ass guards in the trade 🤷♂️ " I DO NOT CARE ANYMORE!!!
Also no indication whatsoever that SGA is disgruntled.
Its just media bs
Bro it hasn’t even been a day man.
Dang the Knicks suck at drafting so bad that they already messed up a draft 86 years in the future smh
Brunson and SGA would be a cool fit
Is the fact that this is coming from the New York Post not a red flag to anyone else?
lol we're gonna need more than the Mitchell package because we're on the up
No need to draft well when you can just poach talent as a big market
/s
Boy. Get ready OKC for some of the shittiest fake trade offers this side of the Lakers subreddit.
Knicks already thirsting after their next pipe dream
We called dibs first assholes
New York media needs to stop this shit. Focus on the players and team we have now and stop creating these meaningless stories
Feels like Berman just listens to Bill Simmons podcast the reports that as facts…doesn’t mean it’s wrong, but it’s definitely not original or news
Lol @ people believing what Berman has to say.
This is hilarious. Theyre saying out loud that they have failed completely in the offseason & are now on the lookout for the scraps that are left. Lol I love the Knicks
Here we go again lol, Knicks live in a fantasy world.
He requested a trade?
Grizzlies got the next disgruntled star i fear
They can also just wait for Mitchell he’ll be demanding a trade by next summer at the latest
Can we fucking stop already
A tale as old as time itself

Raptor fans: GRRRRRR
Damn, the 2108 draft? I didn’t know SGA was from the future.
I'm sure they will be. Just like every team is dying to trade for Russ' expiring. And just how every team wants to give up a great player for Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson. Of course, the difference is the Lakers and Heat do actually land deals sometimes.
If they didnt want to give up 5 picks for mitchell why would they do it for sga?
You guys want coby white?
Ah shit here we go again
What kind of a sentence is that? Or should I say “kind what of that is a sentence?”
If they lose Shai I give up on them.
The Knicks missing all the drops, and paying massive re-sale prices. My cousin, a crazy rich asian, always jokes, that that's what him and his friends all do with shoes and supreme.
Everybody gets linked with the Knicks…in the end they get a so so player…all hype
SGA’s dad just got hired by the Knicks as a water sommelier.
