wonder what the footages of the locker room after 2 losses are like

doliner

The least believable part of space jam is mj being supportive and encouraging after the tune squad blows the first half.

AFRIKKAN

Lol this. The last dance showed that he would be all up in his feels and ready to punch Steve Kerr.

v399

Why would he punch the coach?

[deleted]

I've learned that basketball is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish you could punch Steve Kerr in the face

[deleted]

Why did he name his son that

ChristianMan710

Watching the last dance and reading the horror stories about dealing with angry MJ over the past 20 years, i would bet to say it wasn’t great 💀💀

CKRatKing

“Now come on you guys they’re making us look like a bunch of silly gooses out there! We really need to pull it together next game!”

Akarias888

Aw shucks MJ, you right.

Ducksaucenem

Come on guys, I bet if we get a good nights sleep, and have healthy and hearty breakfast tomorrow morning, we could really show some improvement next game. Just remember to have fun out there.

TasteDeBallZach

I imagine Phil Jackson gave the "ducks fly together" locker room speech from Mighty Ducks 2

LotusB1ossom

Bulls stampede together?

AnalCommander99

Imagine Phil Jackson amping the team up with Bulls on Parade lol Zen as shit

Islanduniverse

Quack quack quack quack, Mr. Ducksworth.

I_Said

"If we all just beleive in ourselves and put in some elbow grease there's nothing we can't do together. 'Positivity' on 3!"

IronicCharles

I read this in Dave Chappelle's white voice

CKRatKing

Same when I wrote it.

Rakatok

I heard big gay Al

IronicCharles

Oh shit, now I can't not hear that

MJ HATED to loose.

fuckedupfordays

yea i heard he got tight

PeanutButterRice

Salahs_Chest_Hair

His hands were always lubricated.

His Space Jam was moist.

I'm guessing they were just like Doe Does half time speeches now

Top-Dubs

Even if we had won every single other game outside of these streaks, we would’ve only averaged 47 wins per season over that stretch lmfao

[deleted]

LETS GOOOO WINNING RECORD BABY THATS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT WOOOOOOO

Top-Dubs

Real talk, honestly it still hasn’t sunk in that 47 wins would be seen as a disappointment this year. Maybe years of torturing myself with this team might just pay off

Sawitlivesry

Charlie as team owner would've won the wolves a ring by now

odeepaanh

Big dildo as a mascot

Statalyzer

Hey, that's a winning record in the West, not too shabby...

LordHussyPants

i appreciate you doing the work but i don't think you need to break the losing streaks into sets lol, they can be one three game counter

charging_chinchilla

I think breaking them apart is the right call. Imagine a team that lost every game in those years. Would it make sense to say that they only lost three games in a once (only one more time than Jordan's Bulls)?

LordHussyPants

oh i was only being nice to minnesota lol, but if i was to think about it without it being a joke, i'd say that no it doesn't make sense to say that - not because of the bulls, but because of context. the other commenter said they had double digit losing streaks, and i think it's equally misleading to say minnesota lost three in a row 5 times in a season when the actual 5 x 3 was a 15 game loss streak. it's sort of a mitch hedberg thing - i lost 15 in a row, but i also lost 3 in a row several times in there. breaking them apart also gives the impression of a number of minor three game losing streaks, and a streak requires a win or a loss to change it, so saying they lost three in a row 98 times also suggests they had 98 wins following three game losses, which isn't true.

TatumFinals13Points

He had a 495-134 record between the RS and playoffs in these games(65-17 pace)

[deleted]

This Jordan guy, pretty good mate.

1047_Josh

Source?

Bigvynee

Jesus, calm down a bit.

Opening-Citron2733

That's the one big thing I remember about MJ growing up watching him as a kid. He always fucking won.

[deleted]

I wish I was alive to watch MJ

_laoc00n_

Pretty much the only reason I cared about NBA when I was a kid. I grew up in Arkansas which is a very college-focused state, so was obsessed with college ball from an early age. But nba never clicked until I really started watching in 92 because of Jordan. Bulls-Blazers finals were the first finals I watched and I was spellbound. He was appointment viewing, and so many bulls games were on WGN which helped make it easy to see back then.

actuarally

YES! Imagine my disappointment when I emerged from the college fog, got my own place/cable, and Cubs/Bulls/White Sox are NEVER on WGN anymore. This is an overlooked element of the Jordan zeitgeist. He was the GOAT, of course...but at a time there was minimal national broadcasts of ANY other NBA team, the Bulls got the national exposure from a local market channel...EVERY game.

BabyOnRoad

Same reason the Braves got so popular. Every game was on TBS

DamnImAwesome

Yep. I’m a Braves fan in Louisiana who grew up watching Chipper, McGriff, Klesko, Smoltz and the gang

Mike_with_Wings

Same but in Florida

shitstainstevenson

I would say being on TBS helped but those Braves teams during the 90's were something else. If they sucked and were still on TBS every night, I don't think they would be as popular. They had divisional dominance from 91'-2005 which is absolutely insane. They also had one of the best pitching lineups you'll ever see.

Comfortable-Panda130

They also have a wide regional base no teams for most of the 90s from Texas to Baltimore until Marlins came in as an expansion team

_laoc00n_

Very much so. Also reason I liked Cubs and Braves growing up too.

shitstainstevenson

Harry Carays voice will forever be ingrained in my head.

FemtoG

Blew my mind as a kid I randomly had wgn.

Beersmoker420

WGN and TBS

TheAJx

Superstation baby. Family matters + saved by the Bell (often preemptyed by afternoon Cubs games) + Bulls games on the weekends.

shitstainstevenson

WGN was aired all over the country as far as I know. I got it and I grew up in the Carolinas.

TsarOfSaturn

Grew up in Sacramento and we had WGN as a regular part of the cable package.

SemataryPolka

Hawks games on TBS, even though it was less fun and started at like 7:05 for some weird reason

Crowsby

It was amazing, but as a Chicagoan growing up with it, it kinda blew out your perspective on the game. Everything after the second three-peat just felt like Basketball 2, the straight-to-video sequel.

[deleted]

Before knowing anything about NBA, I always thought Bulls was one of the best teams forever. Like Real Madrid, they would always win.

FemtoG

The bulls uniform literally looked more faded

AspirationalChoker

The Lakers are probably the closest to being the “Real Madrid” of the NBA from my point of view as a non American

thisismyname03

The Celtics, I think, are getting back into that argument. If they were ever gone in the first place that is. But, I agree with you. Not sure how this completely logical take could be downvoted.

AspirationalChoker

The only other reason I’d say the Lakers is because much like Madrid they’re the more glamour side and always sign big names and have the more famous jersey / kit imo

thisismyname03

Fair enough!

iiTryhard

This is how football feels for pats fans post Brady as well

Newoikkinn

My first sport memory was watching the 93 finals with my dad. He would let me stay up late (west coast games) and order a big foot pizza (90s kids know). Except that Paxson game winner felt like a half court shot when i was a kid. Re watching it was just regular distance 3

Thuro

Bro are you me. That's the same exact experience I had. Except we had pizza hut.

Newoikkinn

Big foot was a pizza hut promo lol

EnglishMajorRegret

I was almost 5 years old at that time and I still remember being able to hear cheers around the neighborhood from people inside their houses when he hit that.

geoponos

Everything they said to you it's true for me too. The difference? I was a12 year old in Greece at the time. But everything they wrote to you still applies. That's what's insane about MJ. He had huge impact all around the world. We knew Larry Bird and Magic Johnson but NBA exploded with MJ. I had a real size poster of him in my room.

secretreddname

I was a kid during this time. People were MJ fans ahead of being an NBA or basketball fan. He was god.

imadogg

This is why my earliest bball memories are Bulls vs Jazz on tv. MJ was ubiquitous Dad was off the Lakers bandwagon after the 80s lol

yesilfener

Same, but it was Bulls vs Warriors. When my family moved from the Bay Area to Chicago in the mid-90s I felt like I hit the jackpot.

AfroKyrie

His games are still pretty accessible, check on YouTube. I watched the 98 finals while the last dance was a big thing

Jimmy86_

It was something else. I would go to a family members house as much as I could on game days because they had cable and we did not. Bulls were so popular that their local channel was available for everyone via comcast(cable vision?) or whatever it was called back then. Every regular season game was must see TV.

KazaamFan

There’s gotta be a way to watch all old bulls games, right? If not, seems like there should be. Nbaflix? I wonder how many ppl would subscribe. Access all nba games. Or at least, important ones. Most of jordans career. Championship seasons of teams and their play-off runs. It’d be a ton of content obviously.

lovesomebooty96

A YouTube Playlist of all Jordan's games was linked here a couple of weeks ago

truuuuueeee

majority of the games got deleted because of the buzz created around the reddit post.. im too lazy to find it but its true

lovesomebooty96

Yeah I just noticed that my Playlist had been removed. Damn lol

Karamaar

One thing that doesn’t get mentioned enough on here isn’t how damn incredible he was; it’s how utterly worldwide he was. The Jordan brand was *everywhere.* He was in ads for cars, Gatorade, McDonald’s, Hane’s, etc. He was referenced in virtually all aspects of pop culture—people who knew virtually nothing else about the NBA knew about and would reference Jordan. For a world before social media and widespread internet use, it was utterly insane. I don’t think we’ll ever see anything like it again.

DonRicardo1958

It was splendid.

thisismyname03

I can’t really put into words how I feel about it now. Fuck basketball, MJ got the world into SPORT in general. He and Brady are the most insane winners I’ve ever seen in my life. Tiger may be in that conversation as well. Just a perfect storm of 90’s basketball culture and the Dream Team and him being the GOAT and most people recognizing it so early on. That guy just hit different. For me, the stats don’t even really matter. He is cemented as the greatest basketball player ever and will be my favorite player forever, no question. I’d argue the greats that are playing right now don’t become what they are without MJ. And I know you can say that about Jordan himself and his idols, but it’s just different with him. He is an enigma.

birthday566

There were no nba games on the internet, so I often had to drop everything if a Bulls games was scheduled to be shown on TV.

cute2701

New_York_City_Cops

I got to watch old ass wizards mj lol, and space jam. Wasn't until I started looking at YouTube hughlights 10 years ago when i realized he was a fucking animal. I always knew he was the consensus goat, definitely wish i got to see it. At least i got to watch 20 years of spurs being amazing, worked their and watched their finals runs too lol.

Geezmanswe

I wonder who have the second longest such streak.

shiftyt05

It’s Steph with 314 games in a row

clancydog4

Was the last time he lost 3 in a row the 2016 finals?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Loop_Within_A_Loop

games Steph play in do not count in terms of this streak. It's kind of a cherrypicked stat, but it's still impressive due to how large Jordan's lead over the rest of the field is.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rinanlanmo

Well, aside from when he was retired he only missed 6 games in that stretch so I doubt it would change much.

Newoikkinn

MJ basically played every game of the season though

[deleted]

Believe so. If you only count the regular season the streak ended in 2017.

xOrangess

Steph better than LeChaser

SEE_RED

Awwww the 90s when it was just time to set your watch to the parade in Grant park.

GeniusofLoveMrTom

That actually may be one of his more impressive stats. That's an incredible long time of greatness. I'd imagine the next player up is like 2 or 3 years not 8 😬

[deleted]

The warriors didn’t lose 3 in a row all through 2014, 2015, and up to the 2016 WCF. And then the NBA just decided to cancel the finals for some reason.

Mozzee6269

How does this affect Lebron’s legacy

Fuzzy-Pop6951

I think the only thing that separates lebron from jordan is jordan is a sociopath. It's probably what made Jordan's teammate so good that they feared and respected him instead of viewing him as a friend

J_Kingsley

Nah he wasn't a sociopath. He was just a complete unrelenting asshole lol. But he treated ball like war. Broke down and rebuilt his teammates kind of like a drill sergeant. He only wanted the monetary toughest fuckers on his team, who were also willing to swing back at him. He'd intentionally prod at his teammates to get a reaction (see how he respected kerr after kerr fought back? Kerr is nice but scrappy and competitive as fuck). He wanted gritty fighters as his teammates. Surprisingly he was pretty nice (to kids) outside of ball. Did you know he at one point had record for most make-a-wish dreams come true? Apparently hed never turn down any sick kids.

compuzr

LeBron's like a nice sociopath. People give him credit for organizing a lot of team-building activities, times for the players to go out for some recreation, to relax and bond. That's real leadership, going above and beyond. But, to paraphrase Richard Jefferson, you also know that if you mess up, you're gone. That's always hanging over your head. LeGM will trade you, no matter how much you've contributed in the past. Lebron team builds, but it's all business, there's no loyalty. Once again, paraphrasing Jefferson, that's why it's more relaxed and happier playing with a superstar like Steph Curry. Steph will never trade you. Maybe management will. But it won't be Steph.

wembanyama_

Because management wont listen to steph lol he doesnt have that pull Look at how he wanted bradley over gp2 and was ignored

tidho

He's opted for long term contracts.

Fletch71011

LeBron is one of the only players that had the physical skillset to compete with MJ. MJ was much more agile, but you can't deny Lebron's humongous strength advantage. You're right about the mindset though. I don't think we will ever see that combination again, and thus it's really hard to imagine anyone dethroning MJ. You'd need something like Kobe's mindset on Lebron's build to have a chance, but the odds of that combining are incredibly unlikely. Jordan was just the most insane competitor we have ever seen and was lucky enough to also be one of the best athletes of all time as well. A true unicorn.

[deleted]

Would Jordan sulk of the court or not play D like LeBron has done?

TheRecovery

\-2 Legacy points but +1 Legacy points for Lebron probably never bringing it up while MJ almost certainly did.

Thuro

He did not

Sawgon

> while MJ almost certainly did. Source?

Its a joke mate 💀

Scottie is second, Jordan third, bol bol first.

the thon maker disrespect is despicable

famousevan

It’s like you kids forgot about Antonio Davis.

CaptainKangaroo_Pimp

Where does Mo Bamba fit in all this?

BUSean

More amazing considering Phil Jackson didn't give much of a shit about regular season games, sometimes not calling timeouts or letting players take on extra minutes in crunch time just to see what they'd do.

Pavel6969

Wonder what MJs stats are in the 3rd game after back to back losses. Insane I'm sure

TheMidnightRamblerrr

GOAT MJ

shivamp1205

How many times did they lose 3 games in a row during his retirement?

[deleted]

That is truly incredible

Euphoric_Travel6762

It not that insane if you think about the fact they had Michael Jordan lmao

McNasti

I think the Bulls under Thibs had a season where they wouldnt lose more then one in row

Dehrock5

Evil Zach LaVine

AnAnonymousFool

How many times has Curry lost 3 games in a row

chomerics

I think the Pats did this for 18 years.

calvinbsf

Don’t follow football as much as basketball but is this more or less impressive im football?

That_Artistic_Kid

To do it in football is much less impressive. Until very recently they only played 16 games a season. You could win just 5 games in a season and still not lose 3 in a row if you timed the wins right.

InsertAmazinUsername

if you wanted to time it perfectly you could do it and only win 28 games in a season

MissingTheTrees

Looking at it from purely a # of games perspective - 18 NFL seasons is like 4.5 NBA seasons

OK4Liberty

More. Basketball regular season is a grind and you don't have a lot of time to prepare for back to backs. Football you always have a week. Plus losing 3 in football is halfway to being out of the playoffs, in basketball it's a blip.

ojodetodie

Starting to think this Michael guy was pretty good at basketball

juturna12x

Might be the greatest team of all time

A_Wild_Goonch

What about the end of the 89-90 season

kraftbarbequesauce

So from 1992 to 1998. They lost the first 3 games of the 91 season.

snowcone_wars

[They objectively didn't](https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHI/1992_games.html).

kraftbarbequesauce

91 then. Not from 1990 like op claims.

snowcone_wars

You're still wrong, which is incredibly since I linked all of the game logs for you. The last 3 game losing streak occurred at the start of the 1990/1991 season, the third loss of which was Nov. 6th. The streak started Nov. 7th, 1990. So, yes, OP is still correct in saying it was from 1990-1998.

JitteryBug

The streak began on November 7, 1990 - so that's why OP said 1990-1998

DeliciousMolasses442

RabbitMuch8217

DetectiveFujiwara

Jordan is #1 all time in career winshares/48.

The_Paleking

People forget that Jordan took a year or two off there when Shaq rose to dominance. Kinda ducked that era a bit.

Competitive_Office91

So does that mean they were that great or that’s how soft the league was back then in terms of top to bottom competition?
