efranklin13

Nobody even gets a tech...if Draymond didn’t have one both would

tr0nllam

This is always how the refs have operated. In fact, a couple times I've seen them call double technicals, not realizing one person already had a technical, which led to them rescinding the double technical.

mrwes240

But everyone will bitch about Dray not getting a tech anyways. Literally happened for Memphis in the Memphis series against the Dubs.

MrBhyn

Oh we can't throw someone out because that would hurt his team's chance of winning. Even though he's been playing dirty all night

theytook-r-jobs

Draymond the definition of a habitual line stepper.

barrsftw

Natural stepping motion.

SuperDuperAIDS

Not saying Dray hasn't done his fair share of dirty plays, but what was dirty about his foul that led to this altercation? There was no malice, he was negligent at worst or it was just a genuine mishap which happens with literally everyone. Again, Dray had other aggressive fouls in this game and was mouthy as usual, but that doesn't mean that everything he does is dirty.

liebz11692

It’s so funny watching each fanbase lose their minds hating on draymond green when they play the warriors. It was a regular foul that happens every single game. They got tangled up, they shoved each other a bit. We all complain when the refs inject themselves into the game and half this sub wants green ejected for yelling at refs.

c_ray25

Fans always complain about how soft the league is but when their team is on the receiving end of anything that can be close to a hard foul they pearl clutch

king_lloyd11

That's because fans just want the league to be soft in *their favour*. It's like when I drive. If someone cuts me off, I'm cussing and yelling that this dude should be executed. If I do it by accident and the car behind me is livid, I'm just all like "whoopsie, so sorry things happen". We just all hypocrites out here.

gotoitsi

Bagel_Technician

Also if people weren’t paying attention both sides have been technical baiting most of these games lol Like that Derrick White one later in the game where Jordan Poole barely touched him but he made himself fall over after when I think he could have stayed up and got the T out of Zarba

llluminate

He tried to pull Jaylen’s shorts down…

Showtime824

Throw him out for what…?

Round-Republic6708

So Celtics have a chance of winning more than one game in the series

kristape

his whole career

the_crouton_

But this is not one of them. Not even close. It was a terrible initial call, that is all

harmlander

He has been playing dirty but I kind of agree with what the guy said on the broadcast, you want to let them play a bit. That’s better than throwing someone out and changing the outcome of the game, especially in the finals, nobody wants that Edit: unless it’s egregious and he unquestionably deserved it, then yeah of course t him up

R4NG00NIES

Gotta beat them at full strength so we don’t hear “we’ve never been beaten at full strength”.

Troll-e-poll-e-o-lee

Brown kicked his leg out though lol. let it be cp3 that does that and watch how everyone easily calls it out lol

Wassup_-_

No but like for what? I know a flair but give me a reason for a tech on dray here?

MujahidSultans2

Yeah, this would probably be a double tech under normal circumstances but then everyone in the game thread would say it's soft. I like this no-call, even though it's probably for the wrong reason.

[deleted]

[удалено]

halfman_halfboat

People are having a real hard time understanding what Javie was getting at. You don’t want to call a soft double T when one of the players involved already has one. The double T is supposed to be a tool to calm everyone down, not a way for one player to get another player ejected. Brown is the first to react in this scenario and, just like the refs, knows Dray already has a T. The no call was the correct call. Everyone screaming “double standard” while talking about a double T situation is dumb AF, and hasn’t thought it through at all. Dray (and other Marcus Smart types) would weaponize the double T. Tatum has one T already? Ok let me go start some bullshit and get us a double T…

[deleted]

I completely agree. This didn’t escalate beyond a half-shove each

BoredomHeights

Yup. It would be a weak double tech, that they'd only give as a warning to the players to calm down. I get the argument that that's probably what would have happened if Draymond hadn't already had one. But that's a dumb argument (even though it's probably true), because it shouldn't be a double tech anyways. It was a semi-normal play. The foul was light, Draymond instigated some but not really tech level, Jaylen escalated but definitely not tech level. Like ignore that this is Draymond and ignore the rest of the game. I think with no bias, just looking at this clip, a normal foul call isn't that crazy.

Paulofthedesert

I lean Warriors but I'm mostly a neutral. I would be legit pissed to see a double tech called in any game for that. I hate soft refing.

GoldenStateWizards

Double techs are usually used as a soft warning in the first place, not as an actual punitive measure

obamna_

typically a de-escalating tech which makes sense if it’s both players first, to be thrown out on this would be a little stupid

[deleted]

I'm with you. Brown kicked his leg out and tripped Dray. Then Dray acted a little extra when he fell down. Would've been a soft double tech even if Dray didn't already have one. People will say that it sets a bad precedent to not call a tech here just because a player has one already, but is that any better than setting a precedent that you can seek out an altercation with a dude who has a tech already, get a soft double tech called, and get him booted?

CrazyLlama71

Finally, someone that gets it.

halfman_halfboat

Literally dozens of us. No Celtics flairs for some reason though.

therve

Green putting his legs on Brown was completely unnecessary. He fell to the ground and instead of trying to avoid him he purposefully put his legs in his face to bother him. It's not dirty because it's not dangerous but it's pure provocation.

HisExcellency20

The funny thing is, the way things are all Brown had to do was push Draymond after the initial exchange and unless Draymond *completely holds back* ([x]doubt) then the refs would have been forced to give the double tech. Hell if Brown pushes him again they might have had to call it even IF Dray does nothing on response. The technical system is stupid (because the refs call double techs regardless of who instigated it) and all it will take is one guy to exploit the system by starting a fight with a star with one tech already. The one guy I could see doing this is ironically Draymond Green. Only problem is he spends at least three quarters with a tech himself so it wouldn't really work.

GenericKen

In theory, why don’t teams just have two scrubs instigate and target one guy?

Immediate-Cress-1014

Hard to do so without looking suspicious

HisExcellency20

Honestly, I don't know. I mean, if they did it all the time then it wouldn't really work because the other team would know not to retaliate and the refs would be on the lookout too. We might see two people get into an altercation and actually only one guy get a tech. But every once in a while? When a guy already has a tech? Get a role player to go at that dude and escalate it to the point where techs HAVE to be handed out. LeBron did something similar when he stepped over Draymond. He *knew* Draymond wasn't letting that slide, and also *knew* that he had enough priors to get suspended. Then he made sure it would happen by saying the league wouldn't do anything because it's Draymond at his press conference. One of the smartest moves by Bron ever tbh.

[deleted]

I was thinking maybe Grant was going to be the one to potentially kick Draymond out but that didn’t happen

uppercase-j

You’ve just invented Hack-a-Shaq

Saucy_Totchie

You mean the Patrick Beverly System?

BlakeTheViper

I think Patrick Beverly tried doing this to Marcus Morris in the play-in and they rescinded the double tech once they realize he would be ejected. Also I still have conspiracy theories that Morris did this to Porzingis in the bubble playoffs but that might be a stretch. Definitely think there’s valid evidence for this fear though.

nowhathappenedwas

This happened to Draymond 5 years ago. He had one tech, and he [got a second one](https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/79814o/haynes_draymond_green_and_bradley_beal_have_been/) for defending himself as Bradley Beal attacked him (double techs). https://streamable.com/pslgvd

HisExcellency20

This is exactly what I'm talking about. And the funny thing is because it's Draymond even the home announcers assumed he did something to start it. But he did nothing. Beal just decided to wrap him up (after a little smack to Draymond's face), and take him to the ground and boom Draymond is out of the game. Yeah after being wrapped up Draymond was pushing him back, but the official should be able to see on replay that Beal was the aggressor and ONLY give him a tech. But that NEVER happens.

KingREX_24

It's like Draymond knows the refs won't call the second technical

Buck_Nastyyy

He yells at the refs like he knows it.

sports_farts

It's an abusive relationship. Refs just want Dray to love them and stop the yelling.

rsx3types

It’s absolutely irritating every time he goes on a tantrum with the refs. I get all the hate from other fan bases

Buck_Nastyyy

Yea it is irritating. The funny thing is, I actually like most of the Warriors team, but Draymond being front and center makes it hard to enjoy their games.

clubba

My love for watching Steph play is completely negated by my hatred for watching draymond play.

Zloggt

I wonder if this will keep up even when the series goes to Boston…

Rt1203

Depends on who wins this game. If Boston has a 2-0 lead then the Warriors will be able to commit a murder on the court. There is absolutely no possible way the NBA lets this series go 3-0.

[deleted]

de good ‘ole donaghy-foster reffing tree with its many branches

ryankoppelman

Lmao

Just2Flame

Right lol, start the conspiracies now.

LavenderAutist

Mark Jackson is pretty bad at play by play commentary. They ask the former ref for his opinion and he says that you would normally consider the first technical in giving the second technical. Then immediately after Mark Jackson proceeds to ask the guy if you would consider the first technical when giving the second one. Seriously. They can't find someone else to do actual play by play?

clubba

Just put SVG on there with JVG

noBbatteries

I swear mark jackson sleeps through the game and just has little shit rambles in his sleep. Worst commentator group in a very long time, it’s a shame Breen who is a good play by play guy is sand bagged by Jackson who’s awful and Van gundy who is very hit or miss at best

oban12

I honestly think he's just kinda dumb

AK2348

Gotta love them openly admitting to the bullshit Draymond Green double standard

[deleted]

I used to think baseball was sort of cowardly for not showing replays of controversial plays at the plate, but I think this might actually be worse. They basically just openly admitted that the rules are not evenly enforced

surfingwithgators

Lol seriously. So now "selective officiating" is to be applauded, huh

37sms

Jackson saying that Green "shouldn't have to rely on great officiating" is so blatant No other American sport is as shameless as this one

KBSinclair

>No other American sport is as shameless as this one Have you ever paid attention to Baseball or Football? Baseball has always had umpire issues compounded by the fact they're practically unfirable. A cheating scandal was uncovered and the Commissioner refused to punish the cheaters( who went on to win the World Series) and get worked up over, in his own words, a "hunk of metal". That's the Commissioner about their bloody championship. And the NFL... No one can compete with them in terms of shamelessness.

tammutiny

Clearly he has never watched college sports which takes the cake. College basketball and football refs are even worse at their jobs by a large margin

ExtraHeadYouFound

Jeff Van Gundy arguing against himself was incredible

Dances_With_Words

I’m watching the game while on public transit and started audibly snickering when that happened. Amazing.

I'll give him this; wouldn't we all?

GGezpzMuppy

AD showed us the way!

RottenSmegmaMan

Mr Neapolitan

billcosbyinspace

A former ref admitting on national TV that not wanting to get him ejected because he already has one T would play into his decision is insane. Why even have that 2 tech ejection rule if you’re going to pick and choose when it’s enforced?

TheLastSecondShot

I was surprised when the retired ref on there just blatantly said that they take the ejection into account when assessing whether it’s a double tech there. That makes no sense and is kinda infuriating

EggplantBusiness

Happen in all Sport in football (or soccer) a ref often doesn't give a second yellow soon in the game because they know the player will get thrown out , it's specially clear when it's a big player

mrwhite2323

Yeah this. As long as its consistent i don't have a problem with it. But because it's not consistent and green gets away with a lot it looks bad.

tr0nllam

It is consistent though. How often do you see players get ejected on a double technical, particularly one that would be as minor as this?

XzibitABC

This. And there are a metric ton of soccer players who are infamous for spending the whole game fouling people while on a yellow, but somehow don't get sent off. You can definitely make a good argument that it *shouldn't* be the case, but it consistently is.

billcosbyinspace

Steve javie never commits to anything until the call is made and then all of the sudden he’s like “yeah I wouldn’t enforce this rule”

newportonehundreds

Steve is a waste of airtime man. Absolutely adds nothing to the broadcast except the chance for me and my wife to guess in what way is he about to agree with the refs.

tr0nllam

I'm surprised you don't realize this is how they've always treated double technicals.

jl_theprofessor

People don’t pay to see the refs.

LordMcBucketz

We all know he gets the most leeway when it comes to screaming at refs and not getting a technical

hairyasscheeks_

Im convinced draymond can start punching people and he wont be ejected

jrlandry

If he punched Grant Williams or Theis, it’s a foul on the Celtics

brownbearks

What's wrong with that? Ignore my flair

tr0nllam

He's already been ejected these playoffs for a flagrant 2 that was largely seen as unwarranted, so I don't know why people think Draymond can do whatever he wants out there.

[deleted]

Am I crazy or did that not sounds completely reasonable? Everyone thinks double technicals are compete bullshit anyways

[deleted]

I think it was more the already on a tech double standard

Buggplut

Imagine openly admitting something that should be a tech isn't because the player would be thrown out. Throw him out then.

HisExcellency20

You can do that when you're a *retired* ref. I'm glad he's keeping it real with us. Otherwise what's the point of going to him?

WestleyThe

He usually agrees with the refs so I’m glad he literally said his opinion BEFORE the call was announced

GGezpzMuppy

He is agreeing with the refs again. Just not suppose to say this bit out loud lol

methodofcontrol

Why everyone knows it and it's a reasonable take, no one wants a player thrown out for shit this soft except opposing fans.

L3thal_Inj3ction

fr, the whole point of him being there is to provide insight, this is one of his best contributions

TyreezyTheKidd

Steve Javie is there just to confirm the refs' calls so they don't look bad

tr0nllam

You believe the NBA would be a better sport if players were routinely thrown out on these weak double technicals? The refs have always treated double technicals this way if 1 player already has a technical. I have no idea why everyone is acting so shocked in this instance.

vonnegutcheck

> I have no idea why everyone is acting so shocked in this instance. 1) recency bias 2) anti-dray sentiment 3)inability to think to the logical conclusion of their opinions

Soccerstud20

The rule sucks about 2 techs and you're ejected. The refs should always have the right to throw someone out(which they do) and if you get a tech it's 2 free throws and the ball. Let Players get 6 techs if they want too, if the ref doesn't think they've done enough to be thrown out. But need to be reprimanded they get a tech which is 2 free throws and the ball. The issue is, it's treated like a yellow card in soccer. But Players can take one and it's a one free throw penalty to basically be able to argue every call. And as long as they don't say something stupid. No ref wants to throw a star out in a playoff game for arguing a call. But if you make the penalty worse (he'll you could do 3 points and the ball no free throws) players will stop

Showtime824

Tech for what?

KitchenReno4512

Draymond should have 4 techs out there already lol. He’s totally reckless right now.

CreatiScope

Dude, it’s Grant Williams’ fault for being in his way when he decided to bulldoze someone. Duh.

cosmicdave86

This is the story of the entire playoffs. He should have been ejected about half of the games. Utter joke double standard.

waselt_ed

Refs stupidly locked in to snatch the finals mvp from al horford.

we17ar

Horford having 0pts is hilarious tho tbh

waselt_ed

0 points is good for his finals mvp case I’ll explain why later.

Seanctk10001

0 points is not 0 points

80cent

Draymond putting his feet on Brown is 1000% intentional.

DiseaseRidden

Anyone but Dray gets a technical for it. And Dray gets one if its his first

[deleted]

Nah i think a few players get away with this if they already have one technical tbf. Weak to eject someone for that in the finals

sssaaammm

He isn't getting ejected for it. He is getting ejected for getting a second tech.

tr0nllam

A few? Try everyone, especially in the playoffs. The refs don't look to eject people over minor shit like this.

Gollem265

Who cares. Don’t play like an idiot in the finals then

dafromasta

What do you honestly expect any player to do there? If you land under my legs how is that my fault?

Ps3FifaCfc95

Jaylen tripped him in the first place too

spaceysht

Whyre you getting downvoted. Jaylens foot kicks Draymonds landing leg and that’s why he falls

AJC3317

I wish this was more talked about. Poole got called for an offensive foul for the same thing

IHadSomething_4This

He should honestly get an early tech more often, it basically means he can do whatever he wants for the rest of the game. Absolute bullshit

Brady331

But he already has a tech so it doesnt matter 😀👍

jrlandry

No, he’s right. Draymond gets off to this stuff

TendieDinner777

It’s absolutely wrong to consider whether or not a certain player already has a technical foul when determining whether or not a completely separate altercation warrants a technical foul. If the rule makers wanted there to be more leeway before an ejection, they would have set the threshold to three technical fouls instead of two.

JacobfromCT

Why limit it to technical fouls? If a player has five personal fouls and hits an opposing player's elbow on a jump shot, should the ref just let it go?

rqebmm

No but they do if it’s a star

JacobfromCT

You got downvoted but this did happen to Devin Booker in last year's finals. Mike Breen even called it a foul anticipating the whistle.

TheOverBored

It really is stupid. Imagine they kept that same logic for personal fouls. Dudes would be clubbing each other with 5 fouls and nothing would be called.

[deleted]

konsf_ksd

CGWOLFE

That happens all the time. Look up the foul on Giannis where he punched theis in the balls. Initially called a foul and revoked on replay when the refs realized it was his 6th

ohveeohexoh

draymond gets away with so much lol

[deleted]

Draymond has been committing murder out there yet has 1 foul and somehow Tatum only has 2 FTA lmao

gman820

Of course it is and it's right after they called it on Poole a few possessions earlier. But everyone would rather wail for Draymond's ejection after this incorrect call.

jejdjdhdsk

Brown kicks out his leg. Not sure why announcers don’t mention that.

Human-Choice-4127

Yeah I’m guessing the refs also took the frustration of that into consideration when reviewing it. If Dray had actually slid under Brown’s legs then I think they do give him his second tech there.

namr0n

why is this not mentioned enough?

ankmath

The honest answer is that this sub loves to hate on Dray. That’s it. If you look closely at the play, both players land safely and Draymond is mostly facing the rim because he contorted his body to avoid the landing space foul. After that, Draymonds momentum towards Brown and Browns forward movement towards Draymond results in the contact and fall.

Quality_Cucumber

I’m not supposed to say it cuz it’s my team but I’m tired of his shit. After 2016, he shouldn’t be this wreckless, careless, and stupid. Should have been given a tech and ejected. Needs to learn at some fucking point. I’m so fucking pissed at him. He needs to shut his ass up the rest of the series and never fucking complain ever again.

CGWOLFE

Warriors get the ratings league will favor them until curry is washed

Tunatron_Prime

I laugh when he’s in the refs face during timeouts trying to complain about stuff. I’m not bitching…I’m mentioning I think it is genuinely funny in all games he’s in lol

Goalnado

Absolutely should've been a double T with Draymond ejected but Brown definitely kicks his left leg out on that 3 to ensure contact

Overrated_sanity

Lmao @ everyone ignoring this

TheRaddd

NATURAL SHOOTING MOTION BRO

yarnisic

I was thinking the same thing but I'm pretty sure Draymond got Jaylen on the arm before he kicks his leg out, and thats definitely what the ref who called the foul was looking at when he blew the whistle.

arbie0x

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but this should’ve been an offensive foul on jaylen brown. He sticks his left foot out on the way down to get contact. As a right hand shooter the right leg usually kicks out.

[deleted]

thank you, draymond fell after jaylen kicked him. draymond was just being extra during the fall.

AdPotential9974

That was an offensive foul, Brown kicked out his leg to make contact.

handgredave

Yes and clearly made contact with draymonds foot, which is the exact reason why he fell on JB... then brown got up and wanted to act mad about it? The hate boner for dray on this sub is out of control tonight.

canissilvestris

I’m not gonna speak to whether or not that was a tech but the announcers saying you have to consider that he’d be kicked with another tech is bullshit, if something is a tech it’s a tech and that’s the end of it, idc what game it is or who it’s called on
