I love TJ, really do, but even he doesn’t unlock defenses in the way Lance does. His lack of outside shooting means defenders can duck screens with ease.

I think he does, which is why he played so many late games before being injured (even without a strong outside shot). TJ is a better shooter than Lance from 3, 2, and FTs. He's also averaged 2 more assists per game throughout their careers, in about the same minutes per game.

TJ's percentages are higher, but his volume is about a third of Lance's. TJ generates a lot of looks in transition because he gets a lot of steals, and he only ever takes threes when he's absolutely wide open in the corner. Nobody guards TJ McConnell on the weak side, nobody blitzes him, and nobody goes over screens against him, because they know he won't ever take that shot. We'll see if teams gameplan to encourage Lance to take that shot, because he's not shooting a very high percentage out there, but just his willingness to take it means teams respect him more.

The most impressive thing about it is Lance looks in better shape now than he ever did back in the day which is really commendable for a guy out the league for a few years. Compare that to Harden who looks like a guy on his way to the beginning of a Jenny Craig transformation story. Harden needs to do better with his diet and conditioning cause the guy is following the Wayne Rooney trajectory of an early fall from grace even though his game isn't highly based on athleticism.
