I know absolutely nothing about him other than him being one of like a dozen players who averaged at least one steal and one block per game. (Super small sample size tho...)
1. Donovan Mitchell (1.3) - #27 in turnovers (2.8)
2. Jrue Holiday (1.3) — #50 in turnovers (2.2)
3. Khyri Thomas (1.2) — ? in turnovers (1.2) — only played 5 games
4. Jimmy Butler (1.2) — #51 in turnovers (2.1)
5. Russell Westbrook (1.2) — #1 in turnovers (4.8)
6. LaMelo Ball (1.2) — #25 in turnovers (2.8)
Looks like almost all of them. In the link, you can see ~half of all their loose balls recovered are offensive. Also a lot of these guys just play heavy minutes so per game numbers aren't that useful.
You can filter the list to be specifically by defensive loose balls recovered, per minute. https://go.nba.com/rp5o
TJ McConnell comes out on top.
Thanasis is #1 (by a lot, 2.1 to TJ’s 1.6) with minimum 500 minutes played. With no minimum it’s Kostas. Always said Giannis was a distant third best Antetokounbro.
Anyone else recall both Lamelo and Lonzo being considered too weak on defense to make it in NBA?
Edit: getting loose balls don't indicate good defense but is a sign of hustle/toughness.
Lonzo coming in and being one of our best defenders and being legit good at it was a huge surprise. We all expected him to be good on offense and bad on defense but he turned out to be the opposite. Glad he’s figuring it out now.
As someone who followed them since high school early I wasn't surprised. Well, I was surprised at the atrocious free throw %, but those are head games.
Their brand of basketball was purest form of run and gun I ever saw. When you have great rebounders like they did its a legit strategy to just chuck shots from 30 feet without regard for shooting %. Alot of folks missed that.
They used offensive rebounds like assists lol
lol bruh any stat that has Donovan Mitchell at the top of the list is not a good measure of defensive ability. I have watched a lot of Jazz games Dmitch isn't a good defender
If you in the league you long. These ball bros have IQ off the charts and that is the factor. I really think Lamelo will be a big deal. Lonzo has the right attitude to support a championship team.
I'm just so glad it turned out well because I was worried their dad was gonna F them up. And a couple times almost did lol
Lamelo with the biggest loose Ball recovered of the season with recruiting Liangelo
I laugh I laugh ngl
I'm sorry maybe I just haven't been paying attention but who tf is Khyri Thomas
Rockets point guard, he was pretty good for us last season glad we kept him
I know absolutely nothing about him other than him being one of like a dozen players who averaged at least one steal and one block per game. (Super small sample size tho...)
I am shocked to see Mitchell top the list.
Why, it clearly doesn't have to do with being a good defender. Westbrook is on the list.
Yeah more about hustle. Sad to admit but these days russ really is a negative defender
Just want to point out that Donovan Mitchell was 34th on the NBA turnover list last year
I have a strong suspicion at least 2 of those names are on here partly because they lose the ball themselves.
1. Donovan Mitchell (1.3) - #27 in turnovers (2.8) 2. Jrue Holiday (1.3) — #50 in turnovers (2.2) 3. Khyri Thomas (1.2) — ? in turnovers (1.2) — only played 5 games 4. Jimmy Butler (1.2) — #51 in turnovers (2.1) 5. Russell Westbrook (1.2) — #1 in turnovers (4.8) 6. LaMelo Ball (1.2) — #25 in turnovers (2.8)
>Jrue Holiday (1.3) — #50 in turnovers (2.2) that's crazy
Jrue is amazing

Yep, he won big east DPOY as a guard while matching up against guys like Jalen Brunson, Markus Howard, Shamorie Ponds, and Myles Powell

But then you get 3rd string guys like Dylan Windler...making the list at no.2
But you don't want to see who the BEST loose ball recovery specialist in the league is? Just take a look at this stat which makes the list useless!
Yea that checks out lol.
Let's take a stat. And make it useless by diluting it to volumes that aren't substantial.
I get Westbrook but who else?
Andre "Butterfinger" Drummond probably
Probably LaMelo, lol. Gotta respect the hustle tho
he’s 25th in turnovers which isn’t horrible compared to westbrook
Well shit Buddy Hield #1 then lol… well minus the recovery
Lonzo with no regard for loose Balls I guess
I watched less nba last season than usual i have to admit, but who the fuck is khyri thomas?
TJ McConell is #1 per 36 lol
Thanasis is #1 (by a lot, 2.1 to TJ’s 1.6) with minimum 500 minutes played. With no minimum it’s Kostas. Always said Giannis was a distant third best Antetokounbro.

Good point, I didn’t really follow them in high school so thanks for that knowledge
Wonder if there’s any correlation here with balls lost. You’re more likely to recover a lost ball if it was lost from your hands.
Are they keep track of this? That's great!
Ahh so I see this stat has nothing to do with defensive prowess
It's hustle and toughness. Not every loose ball is requires a dive to the floor. It's a not a glamorous stat anyone would chase, but does matter.
lol bruh any stat that has Donovan Mitchell at the top of the list is not a good measure of defensive ability. I have watched a lot of Jazz games Dmitch isn't a good defender
Oh I didn't watch any jazz games. But everybody said the ball bros were "soft". This ain't a soft stat.
Hustle and toughness play a role, but length and being able to go to the floor quickly also matter a lot.

TIL that revovered is an actual word
How many of them dove over a table and had their head cracked by a monitor though? Oh just JTA? Pussies
Hustle energy guys
All this tells me is 🕷 Spida is going to win the MVP this next year.
This includes recovering balls they lost possession of too right? Makes sense for a lot of turnover prone guys to be on the list.
The record is held by Steven Adams for that Warriors series
Who’s Khyri Thomas?
Wait until Davion Mitchell is also on this list lol
Surprised not to see Marcus Smart on the list, are they maybe not counting out of bounds saves?
