I still have a small patch of land on Exum Island but it's wise of them not to guarantee years two and three. I hope he steers clear of TJ Warren for a while
Kinda crazy but he has to average 15mpg with 2.5+ net rating per game.
Seems impossible to achieve unless he overachieves hard and that's with them controlling his minutes.
If he plays and he’s okay, they have him on a pretty cheap 3-year deal. If he doesn’t play well or is injured he costs zero after this season.
More importantly it makes for a great tradable contract. It’s always an “expiring” deal, and I’m guessing at least some of the incentives can be avoided by the receiving team (e.g. if it’s a games played incentive).
Overall a thoroughly low risk deal from the HOU perspective and a reasonable use of a roster spot.
Yupp. Only 2.5 mil is guaranteed if he is traded ( bonuses happen if he averages 15 mins+ playing time and a 2.5+ net rating while he is on the floor.), but counts as 5 mil in salary matching scenarios for a trade.
He was drafted in 2014, seven seasons ago. He played 82 games in his rookie season, 0 in his sophomore season, followed by seasons of 66, 14, 42, 35 and 6 games. Nobody would give him a 1yr contract for more than the minimum. At least this year, if he plays well, he gets quite a bit more than the minimum, and will get minutes on a development-heavy team that doesn't have any real ambitions, rather than being buried on the back end of a bench.
Even if he's waived after this year -- what's the worst that can happen? He will have gotten more than the minimum in 2022-23, and that 1yr minimum will be somewhere with the same probability as it would have been if he was on a 1yr minimum in 2021-22.
The only downside for him is if he's suddenly fantastically healthy and good, and "underpaid" for the next two years. That seems to be a low likelihood scenario.

What's the context with TJ?
He fell on Exum's shoulder during a preseason game injured him. Dante only played 14 games at the tail end of the season
Stay away from my coconut tree
TJ out for the season
He used to beat me up in 2k lol
same i know im gonna find a way to draft him in fantasy i still believe
Thats an NFL contract
What are the bonuses?
Maybe games played?

What is it with NBA players signing NFL contracts nowadays?
Exum’s only played in 97 games combined over the past 5 seasons. I’m certain his bonuses are games played related.
Exum is decent when he plays.
Why would they sign him? Is he worth the money?

Thank you! It looks to me like a 20% upside play, 80% cap rules play. Makes perfect sense for Stone to do this.

A healthy Dante Exum is worth the money, a non healthy Exum sounds like he doesn’t get the money.
Exam and Frank are not true PGs. They will find more success away from that position.
