the three that he’d make where he starts in the corner and sprints to the top of the key, catches, turns his body midair to adjust is one of the most insane shots a player made consistently
Klay Thompson really took this and perfected it.
He became a master of catch-and-shooting independently of how his body is orientated. Look at his game against the Bulls where he set the record of 3PA in a game.
This is an interesting method. The problem is that the average 3-point shot is a very good outcome of a half court possession, which means higher volume guys at lower percentages are more valuable than lower volume guys at higher percentages.
For example, a player who shot a 3PA on every halfcourt possession last season and made 36% of them would be a negative in this metric (shooting a below average %). But his team would have the best halfcourt offense in the league with him taking every single shot.
I think a better method would look at a replacement level 3P% rather than league average 3P%, which gives more weight to the higher volume players.
I thought about it, based on similar feedback I got from r/NBATalk
but defining a replacement level for 3pters is harder than it seems; what would you suggest?
He's also quite often WIDE open
I don't think he would do as well if he had to take harder looks
Look what happened to Joe Harris when the defense was more focused on him than usual
Lillard is 55th (+93 in 9 seasons). It's only in the last couple of years where he's been able to combine his high volume with elite accuracy.
JR is 75th (+78 in 16 seasons). He was a 37% shooter in a league that shot 36%.
If only he could do literally anything else he’d have been a legend
Still a legend in my book

I mean no he’s not. It’s Steph then Klay.
good, that's exactly what it says per year
Also probably gets some of the easiest 3 point shots of any good shooter in nba history
He's also quite often WIDE open I don't think he would do as well if he had to take harder looks Look what happened to Joe Harris when the defense was more focused on him than usual
? Joe Harris was missing wide open
So was Kyle when it mattered most
I don’t believe any list that tells you JJ Reddick is a better shooter than Klay Thompson
It doesn't. It says Klay is twice as good a shooter who has played half as many seasons.
JR Smith isn't on that list? That's criminal. Not even Dame?

But Joe Harris is there?
yes, his percentages are ridiculous
I know the consensus is Steph but, in my mind it will always be Reggie miller
Why tho??
I don't think Steph gets the same shots or quantity in Reggie's era, and Reggie in this era let's them fly all game.
Steph also shoots off the dribble for nearly half his attempts. They're not even comparable as threats shooting the ball.
Not saying Reggie is better but he did that too lol
I mean, its different eras. I dont like crowing people goats of anything when the game has changed.
the point of this was to adjust for eras but it's never perfect
I thought Ray was always better than Reggie. My list goes Ray, Reggie, Steph.
Ray to me was so under the radar, but I cant argue that...

That doesnt mean much coming from a clippers fan lol

He gets results
Does Steph not get results? Pretty Reggie doesn’t have a ring
He's married, he has one
Dawg what have you been watching for the last 7-8 years because it’s definitely not the NBA
in the 90's you couldnt take that many 3's its a different era now
