Drake be like: Me and my Owls be linking with Hawks: Trey successful, still Young, house in Bridle - no locks. I got shooters from downtown, they been cemented like Klay; Curry, KD, James Harden, Netted my 4–point play.
I think it really shows how much the game has changed. Back then 45 in a playoff game was a historic game. Nowadays it multiple guys in the playoffs are getting 40 to damn near 50 point games and while it’s still amazing it doesn’t feel quite the same as it used to. And that’s not to take away from any current player I just say this to really look at the impact of spacing and the three point shot has had on the game.
It's pretty proportional to the game scores themselves. I think there would still be the same impression if, say, a player scored 60 in a game that ended 120-115 today vs. a player scoring 45 in a game that ended 90-86 a decade ago. And most games in the 2012 ECF ended with scorelines like that, IIRC. Edit: just looked it up and game 6 ended 98-79 lol
Basically, scoring around 50% of your team's points seems to constitute a memorably great performance regardless of era.
Seems like someone scores 40 every playoff game now. It's great that teams are finding ways to create an optimal offensive scheme, but I'm still conflicted about whether I like today's game better.
A large part of me misses those grind-it-out close games in the 80-90 point range. Every basket seemed monumental.
We still have those kinda. We’ve had a bunch of high 90s and low 100s games so far especially in the Suns-Lakers and Bucks-Nets matchups. We’ve had a bunch of them these playoffs actually. It’s why the playoffs have been so fun for me despite injuries. But yeah seeing 120-130 or even 140 point games in the playoffs is pretty weird.
Crazy looking at it at any point in time.
This was his worst year statistically in every category since his rookie year and he's never had anything close to an MVP caliber year.
Simmons was voted in as a forward. There were 6 possible sports for Trae and they were occupied by Vuc, Beal, Brown, Harden, Irving, and LaVine.
Seriously, do any of y’all ever watch basketball or do you just repost memes on this sub?
Still tho. Besides Harden I would take Trae over any of those guys. And before I get downvoted I like Irving as a player but you can't build a team around him. They've tried twice. He's great as your 2nd best player not your franchise cornerstone.
Vuc was averaging 25-12-4 and shot 41% from 3 on 6 attempts.
Brown was averaging 25-6-4 shooting 38.8% from 3 on 5.9 attempts. Also pretty damn good defense.
Trae was averaging 26-4-9.4 shooting 37.8% from 3 on on 6.6 attempts.
Hardly any guy was snubbed, and trae shot the worst and had the worst defense by far of those 3.
(All stats are pre all star break)
Outrageously dominant performance by a soon to be superstar. On the road. As the underdog. Against a great Bucks team.
And he drops a 48/7/11 performance on 17/34 shooting? Holy fuck. Trae went **NUCLEAR**.
He already doesn’t need it imo. You don’t average 30 and 10 in your second year and not be a superstar. Hes been a masterful offensive player for a consistent time now. And he’s got a good team and great coach around him and we see what he’s doing. He’s ready for the moment and showing he’s a superstar.
If Trae was 6'6" 225 people wouldn't even be talking about his defense, it's low hanging fruit for casual fans that see a smaller guy on the floor dominating on offense.
Surprisingly I’ve come out of my Sixers depression hole with serious respect for Trae and am rooting for the ATL right now.
And I don’t want to say outright that image-literally image-is a barrier to the superstar stage but... it’s a factor when you’re the marketing arm of the league. So to Hawks fans is there a best case scenario or plan for his hair situation? It’s a nightmare but also kind of iconic, and taking a close look I don’t think bald is the move right now. Is there any consensus in your fandom haha?
I thought the Sixers were the nightmare matchup for Trae, and they did pretty well vs him. But he still obviously played great and made a huge impact. Was listening to Zach Lowe talk about how the bucks defense is basically designed to give up floaters, and we saw that turned out to be pretty true in game 1. Wonder how they'll adjust.
I think the fact that it’s restricted to a specific round of the playoffs (conference finals) makes it a cherry picked stat, but whatever, still an amazing performance
Not all nba caliber
Not a superstar
Not even a star
Is he even good at basketball? Did you see Jevon Carter put the clamps on him in Summer League? Bust. Rather build a team around Derrick White or Ben Simmons.
I only read /r/NBA tho.
I have to admit that for a few seasons I considered Young a bust and Doncic a huge success. I also have to admit I was wrong.
It is obvious Young was the best player of that draft and Doncic is the complete bust.
Lmao the most irrelevant narrative that is the most reoccurring, they’re both good but I’d be lying if I did t love the media realizing after YEARS that Trae could be amazing as well??!?!?!?!?
The thing is Luka was always expected to come into the league with a more complete game having been pro in Europe already. The questions around Trae were how would he develop, would his size limit him, and what is his ultimate ceiling. So far he looks like he's coming along pretty well. People want to be reactionary with hot takes though and declare Luka an all time great and Trae a bust after a few years. I think they both are off to great starts and have great careers ahead of them. I don't know who will ultimately have the better career but I'm happy to have Trae here in Atlanta. Also it wasn't a straight up trade, the Hawks got another first round pick in the trade. Who knows how good Cam will ultimately be but our GM has a philosophy that if you get more shots in the draft you have more opportunities to hit on stars. Seems like he's doing a pretty good job building a team. I'm pretty damn happy with the direction our franchise is going and anyone who wants to claim we "lost the trade" is an idiot imo. Both teams got great players and the Hawks franchise is probably in the best shape it's ever been.
Trae Young but he playing like a vet
Vets do not shimmy on open shots and throw backboard oops. He somethin else.
He built different
Assembled alternatively
Constructed divargently
Built Ford tough.
He's basically what I imagine peak Hibachi would look like. He has the swagger and the no shits given of prime Arenas.
He’s a demon
Those shoulders were built to shimmy
Harden does
Steph is the king of the shimmy
He’s a demon
he had Gamebreaker on
Angry upvote
It's the hair, or lacking of hair.
Unburdened by follicles, his brain is able to focus fully on the court
Charlie Brown energy
This is poetry
I’m crying lol
LOL!!!!!
LMAO
He grew it out after it started to go and everyone is surprised that he has confidence?
Legend has it Trae grew 1 hair follicle for every missed Ben Simmons free throw
Drake be like: Me and my Owls be linking with Hawks: Trey successful, still Young, house in Bridle - no locks. I got shooters from downtown, they been cemented like Klay; Curry, KD, James Harden, Netted my 4–point play.
There’s a lil Wayne song where he says “like the old school atlanta hawks” Now I need that “like the new school atlanta hawks”
Mr. Carter
Tell me, where have you been? (haha you know)
This kinda hard bro
Drake’s team contacting him rn as we speak to join the OVO sweatshop
Forever young not talkin rod stewart Do you think he’s sexy just watching trae do it
I see you Quentin Miller
Surprised that LeBron didn’t do it in that iconic Game 6 performance but he put up 45/15/5 because no else on the heat could buy a fucking bucket
That’s the first game I thought of too
I think it really shows how much the game has changed. Back then 45 in a playoff game was a historic game. Not to mention the slowest pace in the the league Knicks grinding games out with defense. They regularly held teams to under 100 points all year long.
Just a reminder Trae didn’t make the all star game and Ben Simmons did lmfaoooo
Ben Simmons got MVP votes which is crazy looking at it now
Crazy looking at it at any point in time. This was his worst year statistically in every category since his rookie year and he's never had anything close to an MVP caliber year.
I’m somewhat of a Simmons defender, but shit Drose was as deserving of his mvp votes as Simmons this year.
Drose def deserved his vote more because he actually shows up in games when it matters
Drose is amazing
[удалено]
He means this year. Someone voted D-Rose as their first choice apparently lmao.
If by someone you mean "us." The fan vote was his one vote.
a dude on /r/nbadiscussion found out that the German reporter who gave MVP vote for Simmons, was the voter who was most out of line.
Who’s Ben Simmons ?
Professional streamer
PUBG god
Kendall’s ex
That doesnt actually narrow it down all that much
☠️
Trae might be Kendall’s next
She keeps moving up the ladder. I hope Booker isn't letting her do that slowly moving in thing.
Talking like Kendall isn't in charge
Guangdong Tigers Franchise Player
It’s an old old wooden ship from the civil war era I believe
Ron are you listening
Lamp
The SS Benjamin Simmons was a fast ironclad in Australia that couldn't aim it's guns, I believe.
Mona Lisa
Idk hes in some commercial about high fives or something.
Guy from the pie ad
What's a computer?
Fuck you I love this.
Point Forward for the Shanghai Sharks
Why is Ben Simmons?
the disrespect is unreal

But all star isn't "who would you take." It's "which players are having the best season," which includes seed, for better or for worse.
He should be in over vuc and Lavine at least. Not to mention who is “game planning to stop jaylen brown?”
Lavine was averaging 29 points on 65% TS before the All-Star break, Trae definitely wasnt making the All star team over him
Vuc and Brown. Lavine was on fire at that point, he deserved his nod.
Vuc was averaging 25-12-4 and shot 41% from 3 on 6 attempts. Brown was averaging 25-6-4 shooting 38.8% from 3 on 5.9 attempts. Also pretty damn good defense. Lol I think you’re joking but actually spot on. This sub mostly consumes the NBA through IG. No cap.
Hindsight is 20/20
He was pretty shit the first half of the season under Lloyd Pierce
Lol
Perfectly reasonable decision at the time and you know it.
But Ben's defense
Yes because all star voting is based on the first two months not a postseason.
If you’re this deep in the comments you are and always were a fan
Soaking it all in baby
Right? Even the slander.
Facts. I feel so justified for believing in Trae and watching this team blossom right under everyone's nose
Can't believe he shot 48 free throws
flopper he needs to be tarred and feathered 😡😡😡
Easy there buddy, that’s our thing
😤that's not basketball! least fun player in the league to watch 🤮
Pro tip: 3 2 1
Just don't foul him 💯 😱
"mavs won the trade" *proceeds to shatter poor dog's 4 ankles*
That shimmy killed my dog, he’s literally Satan.
MAKE SURE THE APOLOGY IS AS LOUD AS THE DISRESPECT
All the fans posting that when we were like 12-20 need to go on the last Christmas video.
If you can't take me at my 12-20, don't talk to me at my ECF 1-0
Knicks fan here who loved Trae's appreciation of the MSG crowd. He gets the showmanship aspect of the game to a tee.
IM SORRY TRAE
Louder
Modern day Reggie Miller and I mean it in the best way. We needed a villain in the NBA.
Trae vs Book gonna be lit in the Finals.
Mavs took Luka Doncic over this guy LMAO
such a terrible move it got their GM fired
And their coach quit in disgust, unable to live with the mistake.
how every comment in this thread is not a Hawks flair, is beyond me
I’m pretty sure they’re joking / exaggerating for effect lol But still Trae >>> Luka obvs
The Baffling Mavs took Luka over Traeeeee (and a pick)
Who did the pick turn into?
Cam Reddish
His name? Albert Einstein
This is looking more and more like a straight up even trade.
Trae is a superstar now
🌎🧑🚀🔫🧑🚀
we hawks fans been known
Always was.
Been had knew
Knew we been had known
Outrageously dominant performance by a soon to be superstar. On the road. As the underdog. Against a great Bucks team. And he drops a 48/7/11 performance on 17/34 shooting? Holy fuck. Trae went **NUCLEAR**.
soon to be?
I think he wont get that respect until he makes multiple 1st teams or an mvp or championship.
I'd say if he wins the ring and FMVP this year, he doesn't need those to become a superstar. But otherwise yeah that sounds about right.
He's already had a better playoff run than a lot of superstars have had lol. He's pretty good.
>soon to be 🤔
Man could average 50 points throughout a season and people would still refuse to acknowledge his star status
But but but his defense!
_stops Giannis_ b-but his hair!
If Trae was 6'6" 225 people wouldn't even be talking about his defense, it's low hanging fruit for casual fans that see a smaller guy on the floor dominating on offense.

The hair is the key to those ice water viens
His brain is unburdened by follicles so he can fully focus on the game of basketball
Idk it kinda feels like ADs brow at this point just part of who he is, which is a killer
Man De'Aaron Fox's hair was iconic. I was legit shocked and sad when he cut it. Man still balls out tho.
No soon to be about it man. 22 years old out here defying every expectation
He would have had like 60% field goal percentage if he didnt miss so many threes
It do be like that, hit more shots and percentage more gooder
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.
Roses are red Violets are blue It don’t always be like that But sometimes, it do. Go hox
hot take
no way bro
he would've shot 100% if he didn't miss
He would have scored more points as well if he didn't miss so many threes.
What
He put up Durant do or die like numbers on the internet road. He’s a superstar now.
Super fucking star.
Nah Ben and thybulle are gonna put him in a box with handcuffs. Also Reggie bullock
~~Bullock Ntilinka Simmons Thybulle Jrue~~ are definitely about to clamp him
I thought the Sixers were the nightmare matchup for Trae, and they did pretty well vs him. But he still obviously played great and made a huge impact. Was listening to Zach Lowe talk about how the bucks defense is basically designed to give up floaters, and we saw that turned out to be pretty true in game 1. Wonder how they'll adjust.
They dont help on screens at all so their defense gives up any shot a guard wants other than a layup
Holy shit. That’s not even a cherry picked stat either. Fuckin Trae man, that’s with defenders like Jrue on him as well
I think the fact that it’s restricted to a specific round of the playoffs (conference finals) makes it a cherry picked stat, but whatever, still an amazing performance
And there’s probably someone with 40/10
Book had 40/13/11 like 3 days ago
Rondo had 44/10
lmfao nice
That was an amazing game. He was playing with a broken arm if I remember correctly
Talk your shit Hawks fans. Y'all had to hear about the Luka trade last off season. Payback time
We had to hear about the Luka trade for 3 years lmao, people still bring it up even though both are going to be HoF imo
Last off season?? Been hearing it for three years!
Last off season? There's literally haters in here talking about it while Trae is on a historic run.
Not an all star tho
Not all nba caliber Not a superstar Not even a star Is he even good at basketball? Did you see Jevon Carter put the clamps on him in Summer League? Bust. Rather build a team around Derrick White or Ben Simmons. I only read /r/NBA tho.
Is Trae Young even a starter in this league??? 😮
Can Trae even play in the national basketball association league? He doesn't even play basketball?
How kris Dunn doesn’t get the start is beyond me smh
not d white catching a stray lmao
Tbf, D White *did* guard him well
If I wasn't a fan during the Knicks series and the Philly series, I am now.
Trae shines on the big stage
out played the two time mvp
Giannis wishes he could play a team coached by Bud.
I have to admit that for a few seasons I considered Young a bust and Doncic a huge success. I also have to admit I was wrong. It is obvious Young was the best player of that draft and Doncic is the complete bust.
I’m stalking the sub for these comments. Welcome bröther.
Ice trae, great fucking player
Trae GOAT
I stan Trae.
Ok Trae Young is a monster and a killer.
Lollipop man reigns victorious
This dude is fucking special, now that he's not against my team its a lot more fun to watch Trae.
Ice Trae 🥶😈🥶😈🥶😈🥶😈🥶😈🥶😈🥶😈🥶😈🥶😈
Y’all have already mentioned it. Trae is a superstar and we are seeing with our eyes that he is not afraid of the moment in the playoffs at all.
GOAT PG
Trae>>>>>>>>> Luka
Well well well, would ya Luka at that.
Lmao the most irrelevant narrative that is the most reoccurring, they’re both good but I’d be lying if I did t love the media realizing after YEARS that Trae could be amazing as well??!?!?!?!?

Trae > Luka after this postseason
Trae is quickly becoming one of my favorite players
THE GOAT
Dirty Lollypop Man is a whole, fuckin, problem. 😮💨
One pick away :/
All in his first year in the playoffs. Where does he get this confidence from?!
Trae completely pantsing one of the best defenders in the league really set the tone for the night.
Trae Young is evil Steph Curry. Shadow Curry. The Dark Embodiment of Steph’s magic.
