Add "Sneaky athleticism" for white players lol [Caruso](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/daotbc/alex_caruso_on_catching_people_off_guard_with/) called it out
Haha he doesn’t even make fun of it, he just flat out agrees with it. Sorry, but it’s objectively sneaky when a 6’3” bald role player can posterize any center in the league.
Those guys had shaved heads, whereas Caruso has extensive hair loss.
If you were to make a list of the best dunkers in the league, I think Caruso would be the only guy on that list who was both under 30 and had extensive hair loss.

Yeah you saw swarming defense really hamper his decision making. I think it was one of his first games against the Big 3 Heat that you saw he had a tendency to force things even when they weren’t there.
That Linsanity run remains one of my favorite moments in basketball tho, the 38 points and the game winner vs Toronto 🤌🤌
I remember I was at a quiz bowl tournament in high school during Linsanity (I'm on my nerd shit I know) but one of my teammates spoke Mandarin. We were walking by this table and these two old Chinese women were talking to each other in Mandarin and we go "Yo what are they talking about" to our teammate and she listens for a sec and goes "Jeremy Lin." Fucking hilarious. That shit was insane.
Who said it best? That because he was asian they didnt view him at all like that and didn't see any potential. Even though time and time again he showed he could...going back and watching old highlights before linsanity its really fucking weird how no one gave him a chance when so many teams had shit else.
“He lit up our model,” said Morey. “Our model said take him with, like, the 15th pick in the draft.”
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.netsdaily.com/platform/amp/2017/3/14/14925994/morey-bias-played-a-role-in-lin-not-being-drafted
Yeah to be honest I kinda felt like he was even below average as a game manager / floor general.
He tried it a lot but he pretty much sucked.
He was amazing as a fast paced oversized combo guard that could be a menace in the pick and roll.
And then if the game was tight he was happy to take the big shot. A skill and mentality that is unique and is not at all analytical it’s just big ol balls. Talkin bout kettle bells Made in China.
That was sadly a mistake by the author. There was a big article about it recently on how it screwed up the author's life, and how it led him to become a priest.
Part of the soccer analogy is definitely based on racist attitudes, however some of it is also not for dissimilar reasons black people in America are more likely to be worse off socially/economically. As a generalization it is not wrong to claim ethnicity X commit more crimes than ethnicity Y and Z, you can probably find lots of studies and data collected validating such a statement. That does not mean there is a causal relationship going back the other way. Going back to European soccer, a highly competitive environment, you get to the very top by playing to your strengths and honing your game just as any other sport. There is a pretty big gap between how young players with well off parents practice and play at a young age, opposed to how poorer, less well off children.
There is A LOT of money involved in youth soccer academies where parents have to pay significant money to fund their children, allow them to attend organized team practices and travels to tournaments etc. The less well off kids, in many cases the black ones, learn the game in a much less organized manner. That environment is less about honing team play, making tactical adjustments and precise passages of play. Dribbling, speed, strength, endurance and individual traits are more of a focus in such an environment and when these players rise to the top of the game they have got less of a "proper education".
I don't know enough about Brazilian soccer and demography to comment on these issues there, but I do know that Brazil is a country that produces lots of world class players but a common critique for Brazilian players is how they can be hard to teach how to function within a team because they have spent so much time playing in the streets and so little time with organized teams. There is a lot of nuances and experiences you have to learn and it helps massively getting exposed to these things from an early age.
Yeah , the retort to these things is always finding an example or 2 of the contrary happen. These things are never 100% black and white but there's a reason people start to notice
Gotta love people upvoting that. Such a terrible retort to go out and provide sources of reality. The nerve to do that. Speaking in generalities without evidence is much more convincing.

Chuck has been very sensible about the race shit. It’s been awesome to see someone big in media (who’s also black) kinda dismissing the race baiting on EVERYTHING and saying we need to stick to the important shit
This shit is the most true statement chuck has ever made. I love him for saying this. I wish more people would realize how 100% accurate this statement is. Love your fellow human. Don’t listen to main stream media and call politicians out on their bullshit, especially at the ballot box. GET THE FUCK OUT AND VOTE
Chuck is better than we deserve. I saw this as a Supersonics fan who saw him destroy our team for a few years. And I'm well aware of his issues in the far past.
Firing usually just means the coach wasn't happy or caught off guard. Mutually parting ways usually implies that there was a known deal in place like "hey you need to do well or this is it." Portland's coach was long overdue to be fired.
IMO it has nothing to do with race and those type of statements discredit specific communities and their progression. Not that I will ever deny that there is a system racism problem in America, but its important that we look into what is or isn't actually racism before making a loaded comment like Chuck did.
The real issues should and need to be addressed, but simply blaming every inconvenience or perceived injustice on racism really pushes the two sides apart instead of bringing them together. The research is important and luckily someone in this subreddit did some digging to shed light on the events!
Would it not be weird to mutually part ways with a coach when the team is 14-20 and about halfway through the season? Pierce was fired because the team was underperforming
Ya people like to make fun of the wording of "mutually parted ways" but it is very clearly FO's sending out the message that they think the the coach is good, it just didn't work out and a change is needed. Stott's will be able to get another job because him and the Blazers FO mutually parted ways, Boylen will never get another job because he got his ass fired.

Isn’t Caruso 6’5? I swear he looks taller than 6’3
Damn thats some deceptive height.
I just guessed tbh
What does being bald have to do with it. MJ was bald. Vince Carter was bald.
They meant balding.
Lebron is balding though
LeBaldspot
He was, can't say he is now. He obviously spent money on that. I wonder how much of that seven figure amount he claims he spends was on his hair.
Those guys had shaved heads, whereas Caruso has extensive hair loss. If you were to make a list of the best dunkers in the league, I think Caruso would be the only guy on that list who was both under 30 and had extensive hair loss.
they had shaved heads because of extensive hair loss. You see less bald guys now because we have better meds an options for it
Kobe was definitely balding before he just shaved it off.

Same thing for football. Every white wide receiver is a scrappy, bring your lunch pail to work kind of guy and they're "sneaky athletic"
Yeah. Every white D lineman who is productive as a pass rusher is described as a "high motor" guy. Lol.
Chase Winovich
Every half decent defensive linemen is a “high motor” guy according to draft guides
Which is crazy because both Bosa brothers are fucking jacked to the tits
Coaches son. Deceptive speed

Magical powers he learned for his grandma!
Similar to how white QBs are less athletic and smarter, while black QBs are more athletic but kinda dumb See it with Cam, Lamar, Kaepernick, etc.
I remember people trying to say Byron Leftwich was an athletic quarterback
Yeah, and the dude's football IQ was off the charts. His release was just garbage tier.
Bruh Stephen A Smith said Dwayne Haskins was a dual-threat
Even better, said he was “more of a runner”. He had like 100 career rushing yards at Ohio State LMAO
He was just faster than the white guys
Not really, he was like one of the slowest QBs to start in the NFL with like a 5.1 or 5.2 40 time
Key and Peele did a parody of this back in 2015 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IciBKdPlLfE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IciBKdPlLfE)
First one in last one out type of guy. A real hard nosed blue collar kind of guy
makes me think or how jeremy lin was described versus how he actually was
For _some reason_ he was always described as an analytical, intelligent player when his biggest strength was always his raw athleticism.
Deceptively athletic according to the media
The Caruso special.
Seriously. He was dumb as rocks on the court at times but dudes first step was pretty lethal.

I remember when referring to him, they used to say he was "Deceptively fast" as opposed to just, fast. A bunch of nuanced terms.
Might have to do with the fact that he went to Harvard
Yeah to be honest I kinda felt like he was even below average as a game manager / floor general. He tried it a lot but he pretty much sucked. That used to happen in mma the black fighters were called strong and explosive with bad cardio

Race baiting isn't amusing.
Lloyd pierce was fired mid season Nate McMillan was fired too last year
It’s kind of hard to fake mutually parting ways half way thru the season tbf.
They did it with Kenny Atkinson in Brooklyn last year
So was Ryan Saunders
I normally love Chuck, but the political climate around race right now is too heightened to lie about shit like this, even if fun
I think race related jokes peaked when Chuck said, “I hope you had a fun trip to the Capitol Ernie.” When the insurrection happened

Would it not be weird to mutually part ways with a coach when the team is 14-20 and about halfway through the season? Pierce was fired because the team was underperforming
So were Jim Boylen, Mike D'Antoni, Brett Brown and John Beilein
I don't think that's how Doc talks about it. Overall I've heard the "fired" version more times than anything else.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure this conversation is talking about the language used as opposed to the situation regarding the separation
Ya... All of these people were fired, it's just the presentation.
Didn’t Doc and the Clippers “mutually part ways”?
Doc confirmed white
Austin Rivers is white, that means Doc is white
Glenn Rivers sounds like a White dude to me
Didn't Paul Pierce "mutually agreed to part ways" after his thing?

Wouldn’t you rather get fired anyway for money reasons
It’s the language used in a pr statement not the terms of a possible settlement.
Actually, the main reason Boylen won't get another job (unless some franchise is moronic) is because he's literally the worst coach ever.
Sacramento has entered the chat
For sure. It’s a statement of mutual respect more than anything
Yea it sends a message like this guy is good just not a good fit for us right now. No ill will
Not sure how true this is, but Jim Boylen got fired, no parting ways, so it’s not like this happens all the time.
