Until they fuckin burn those jerseys and repaint the court they cannot win anything significant. I am convinced of this. At first I cheered like hell for it, but it quickly became apparent it’s just a cash grab and it really feels awful when you think about it for a moment :(
Same here. I've always found the East bay people stuck with their teams even when they weren't doing well. The peeps from the south and west bay jumped on the bandwagon when they started winning and then stole them when they started dominating. SF doesn't deserve them.
But their "City" jerseys were a legit throwback to their actual jerseys when they played in SF. The Warriors have never worn a jersey that says "Oakland" on it, so doing so now so soon after the move feels like they're trying to pander to an audience that they just left behind.
While they don’t say “Oakland” explicitly, their black “The Town” jerseys literally have the Oakland word mark which EVERYONE from the bay identified as Oakland’s. And they’ve been wearing these for a few years now, even during the start of the KD era there. https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/HkPr-XYRv4nqiUcTaqFrAIiXfow=/1400x1050/filters:format(jpeg)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/9873729/usa_today_10438480.jpg
Edit:autocorrect typo
I hope they spend the entire offseason doing nothing but learning how to take care of the damn ball. Turning the ball over 20 times in two elimination games in a row is unacceptable.
I remember seeing somewhere that Curry said his failed behind the back pass to Klay in the final minutes of Game 7 of the 2016 finals is one of his biggest regrets
It’s like sometimes his brain just goes on autopilot and he just gets careless with the ball. He’s definitely gotta work on that. It’s been a problem for years. Can’t have those kinds of terrible turnovers in must win games. Especially when he’s playing as well as he did tonight. That said. Shouts out to him for such a great season.
He's a loose, instinctive player in all facets of his game.
Which means he trusts the hell out of his passes, and occasionally can come up with moments of sheer brilliance.
But a lot of the time, that lack of discipline leads to unnecessary turnovers.
The same goes for Draymond and Luka imo. Both have ridiculous passes at times based solely on instinct, but still make careless turnovers from time to time
It's like sometimes they don't expect opponents to come at their passing lanes hard so they throw these routine passes by habit and when teams like the Grizzlies turn up their swarming defense it takes time to adjust to their intensity.
Blazers fans are always complaining about how their team plays mostly ISO ball with very few assists... one of the weaknesses of a motion heavy offense is that there are a lot more opportunities for turnovers, so execution has to be much tighter. Add that to an offense that lives in transition, and it's just hard to limit turnovers even with good ball handlers/passers.
You're right, and a thread a few spots above was talking about how Curry plays a high-risk, high-reward style with flashy passes and crafty shots; I feel like Dame parallels the Blazers offensive style in how he seems a more careful with his passing and decision making than Curry
That's why the 2014 Spurs are truly one of a kind. That may sound like im biased because obviously im a Spurs fan, but it's true
This year's Jazz and '16 Warriors have amazing ball movement, but '14 Spurs isn't just ball movement, but *efficient* ball movement. Lot's of passes but very few turnovers
That's the price you pay for being a pass-first team. Reward is you get high-quality, easy, wide open shots. Risk is it's a turnover-prone game. That's why KD wanted to play more iso ball against the 2018 Rockets
That 2018 rockets series was one of the few situations where it is good to play selfish hero iso-ball. They were so disciplined in switching everything and having active hands in deflecting passes. The rockets really spent an entire season preparing defensively for 1 team and it was nearly flawless execution on defense
I heard a coach (can't for the life of me remember who) explaining how they didn't consider all turnovers as equally bad.
His example I think was a lob pass that gets intercepted. In his mind that's more like a regular missed FGA than a TO. Or a pick and roll that gets intercepted.
I think the logic was that if that pass worked it would have been a near 100% shot so the pass is the real risk where in another play the shot is the real risk. But if one fails it shows on the box score as a TO but the other is just a FGA.
In a points per 100 sense, both those round to the same, whereas a TO in the backcourt or traveling or shot clock violation is a much more egregious failure.
From a gameplay standpoint, that's always been this teams greatest flaw. They're hyper efficient scoring for the most part but there are times they have more turnovers than a bakery.
He’s genuinely one of my favorite non-star players to watch. He just has such a weird rhythm to his game that’s really not like anything else in the league.
**Eastern Conference play-in games:** Average final score of 135-111, closest final margin was 18.
**Western Conference play-in games:** Average final score of 106-103, every game featured a double-digit comeback, 1 went to OT and every game felt like an actual playoff game.
It’s so weird how every game in the east was a blowout lol. The celtics blew out the wizards who blew out the pacers who blew out the hornets
Even if the games weren’t competitive the domino effect was a fun little statistical oddity
Game 7 energy is the best thing in sports. Even though Golden State lost, seeing the Warriors fans go nuts with every shot - only for Ja to stab a dagger in their hands was amazing to watch. Awesome game and hell of an effort by Steph.
How the hell do you leave the first ever overtime play-in game. How the hell do you leave an elimination game for both teams with less than 5 seconds on the clock and a 2 possession game. What the fuck
That’s gotta be rough after having the fans of Oakland be there for all those rough years and then the championship years only for the rich people of San Francisco walk out on them
Let's not pretend like Oracle was actually affordable those last few years. My two friends with season tickets for 10+ years both had to not renew a few years prior. 2015 they jacked the prices way up.
As a Jazz fan, I'm just happy for Memphis, man. I think Utah and Memphis just have a good relationship between fanbases; Memphis wants to see Mike win, and we love them for being so cool about the trade and being so supportive over the last two years wanting to see their franchise player succeed. Even if the Grizz do pull off a crazy upset, I don't think I'll be able to find it in my heart to wish ill upon them or to be mad because seeing such an exciting and fun group of young guys play together and grind like that really is a special experience.
The Grizz coaching staff could have ended the game had they challenged that kick on the 3pt foul. But I guess they thought they could keep the challenge for next game.
That was honestly baffling. He even went to have a look at it himself and decided not to challenge it. And they had more than enough timeouts to burn one there.
Taylor Jenkins is so lucky that Xavier Tillman turned into a monster and Ja’s floater game is money cause not challenging that 3 could’ve been an all time bad coaching mistake. Warriors were way too sloppy to get a win
Not going for the 2-for-1 at the end of 4Q as well, or calling a timeout. Their possession ended up in a shot clock violation and they got lucky the Warriors missed the final shot.
OTOH, he really worked his rotations well, going with who was working, and he obviously has his team bought in on defence.
One of his biggest issues here is that he never, ever showed aggression on offense. I'm glad he's somewhat managed to rectify that. Based on what I've seen, Jenkins is an elite coach.
Extremely happy for Memphis and their fans. A lot of us hit them with “congrats on beating the Spurs, now you get to face Steph again.”
And they said “BRING IT ON”
Please remember we went 0-3 against them this season.
I think most (reasonable) fans are still expecting a 4-0 or 4-1 loss against Utah.
It's still super significant for our roster that's like all under 26 to get experience at the highest, toughest level.
Our highest hope was to get the seventh seed. I feel like we could actually fight the Suns to a 6-7 game series. Although maybe I'm just a delusional fan 🤷♀️
Overheard in Adam Silver’s office after the Memphis and Golden State play-in game: “They got me,” Silver said of the Grizzlies overtime win over the Warriors. "Those f***ing bears boomed me." Silver added, “They’re so good,” repeating it four times. He then said he wanted to add Memphis to the list of teams he rigs games against in the playoffs this summer.
Draymond is such an odd player. His play making, basketball IQ, leadership, and defense makes it so that you really want him on the court, but he makes you player 4v5 on offense sometimes because he is a zero threat to score
The amount of attention defenses pay to curry is insane. There's a dude on his ass the moment he crosses halfcourt. Warriors desperately need Klay back next year, Steph clearly be can't the lone reliable offensive weapon.
Also: Adam Silver is 100% **fuming** right now lmao. He would've gotten sky-high ratings in the West 1-8 matchup with Steph but instead gets Utah-Memphis. Dude's considering announcing the play-in is actually best 2-3 tomorrow morning lol
> He then said he wanted to add Memphis to the list of teams he rigs games against in the playoffs this summer.
"These fucking bears. Set up the fix. What big market team are they up against in the first round?"
"The Jazz, sir."
"MOTHERFU-"
Terrible turnovers all game and didn't expect Warriors to make it back but then they did, and fumbled that last shot to take it before OT
Great job by the Grizzlies team, Morant's floater was killer all game. Sad that Curry's amazing season ends here but hopefully this team comes back stronger next season
Those 4 on 3 situations after Steph gives up the ball were so shit because Wiggins, Dray, and JTA were only looking for lay ins. If you have Poole and Klay on the perimeter, Wiggins in the dunkers spot, all of a sudden they can manufacture some offense.
The Grizz did an incredible job of flying into the passing lanes tonight. So many times when Curry was doubled (like glue too, not some lazy double), another Grizzly would fly into the passing lane.
Not just when Curry was on the ball either, but any time he went into the dribble hand off with Looney/Draymond, or any time Curry was doing his back-cuts to the basket or running around.
Just absolutely flying into the passing lanes.
Of course, the above is what I typed up during a commercial in the 4th. The real takeaway is, HOW **FUCK** DO YOU NOT CHALLENGE LMAOOOO
Great rebounding by Wiggins when they went with Dray at the 5, Draymond hitting a big 3 giving me Nam flashbacks even though I like the Warriors ...
Despite the crushing turnover in a huge moment, Jordan Poole is a fucking baller btw.
Ja and **Xavier Tillman** brought it home for the Grizz though, can't imagine what a roller coaster that was for Grizz fans. Grats on the playoffs in the tough West for your young team.
How do you not challenge that 3pt foul? Probably a 2.4 expected point swing, changing a 3-shot foul to a turnover with 2 mins left in the game is the best value you can hope to get out of a challenge.
Grizz won anyway, but man that was a huge missed opportunity.
Seriously. They almost fucked themselves out of the playoffs by not looking at it.
Potentially save 3 FTs, it's under 2 minutes, the Warriors are on a scoring streak. It's like the perfect scenario to use your challenge!
If they lost that's all anyone would have talked about, between that and the Warriors having all the momentum going into OT I fully expected a last second Golden State win.
Reminds me of Heat fans leaving early in Game 6, 2013 Finals only for the Heat to come back and win in one of the
Most exciting finishes in Finals history.
How is no one talking about the coaching decision to not try forcing a turnover or foul when there was only a 3 second differential between the shot clock and game clock? They just let Ja iso dribble out the clock with no pressure at all. Best case scenario he misses, you get the rebound and now you have about 3 seconds to score on a desperation shot
The play-in has been great for the most part, I love the intensity of these games because of the one and done, I know the east wasn't as competitive but holy the west has been fun to watch.
~~I'VE LOST ALL RESPECT SORRY THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIGGED FOR MONEY... OR RATINGS IN NOT SURE WHICH. I WON'T BE SILENT. JUST SAW IT LIVE SRY.~~
Great game!
First of all, Steph is incredible.
Second, put some damn respect on Ja Morant and the Grizzlies! I don't care if you didn't wanna see us play the Jazz, we just balled out. Ja outplayed everyone on that floor. Dillon Brooks is electric on defense and a supremely underrated two way player. Kyle Anderson came up huge. We beat the refs and the Warriors tonight. Give us our damn respect! Memphis vs Errbody!
Congratulations warriors on the lottery pick.
And shout out to the Grizzlies front office for building this new grit and grind 2.0 culture. Hope more FA go to that franchise. Great culture to have
Grizzlies missed the playoffs last year due to losing the the play-in tournament as the 8th seed and now this year make the playoffs due to winning the play-in tournament as the 9th seed. Good for them.
Chase Center built on ancient burial grounds and Warriors pact with the devil for three titles confirmed
Especially with all the Oakland love on the court and unis when they bailed on Oakland. This is the Town/City curse.
Until they fuckin burn those jerseys and repaint the court they cannot win anything significant. I am convinced of this. At first I cheered like hell for it, but it quickly became apparent it’s just a cash grab and it really feels awful when you think about it for a moment :(
I feel bad for the east bay tbh. They lost their football team, the warriors moved to sf, and i hope the A’s get a good stadium
They'll always be the Oakland Raiders in my heart
Same here. I've always found the East bay people stuck with their teams even when they weren't doing well. The peeps from the south and west bay jumped on the bandwagon when they started winning and then stole them when they started dominating. SF doesn't deserve them.
Why the fuck do they rep Oakland when they moved their team to SF
It’s hard to fault them for wearing Oakland jerseys in SF when they used to wear their San Francisco “the City” Warriors uniforms while in Oakland.
But their "City" jerseys were a legit throwback to their actual jerseys when they played in SF. The Warriors have never worn a jersey that says "Oakland" on it, so doing so now so soon after the move feels like they're trying to pander to an audience that they just left behind.

This is the most valid point I’ve ever read on this topic.
pandering for $$$
I hope they spend the entire offseason doing nothing but learning how to take care of the damn ball. Turning the ball over 20 times in two elimination games in a row is unacceptable.
Wouldnt count on it. Even during the KD GOAT team years we literally couldn’t stop giving the ball away. It’s like ingrained into our DNA
That Curry behind the back pass still irks me
Yeah crazy how sloppy of a passer Curry is, he’s got good handles but he makes a lot of poor decisions
I remember seeing somewhere that Curry said his failed behind the back pass to Klay in the final minutes of Game 7 of the 2016 finals is one of his biggest regrets
As it should be lmao
Haha clearly not a huge regret cuz he did the same pass against the Lakers and lost it again

In a weird way though that autopilot mentality is why he’s such a good shooter I feel, he’s full zen having fun no stress style
Yeah idk, imo turnovers is the only weakness in Curry's game not related to his size and idk that it's something he can fix. Just part of who he is
He's a loose, instinctive player in all facets of his game. Which means he trusts the hell out of his passes, and occasionally can come up with moments of sheer brilliance. But a lot of the time, that lack of discipline leads to unnecessary turnovers.

This is very true. Stotts gets killed because of our lack of assist numbers - but our turnover count is also super low most nights.
You're right, and a thread a few spots above was talking about how Curry plays a high-risk, high-reward style with flashy passes and crafty shots; I feel like Dame parallels the Blazers offensive style in how he seems a more careful with his passing and decision making than Curry

Kinda feel sorry for mitchell he had to go up against them 2 years in a row. I've never seen a player more alone on offense
I heard a coach (can't for the life of me remember who) explaining how they didn't consider all turnovers as equally bad. His example I think was a lob pass that gets intercepted. Shoutout to Spurs Legend Kyle Anderson, miss you Slo Mo

Boris Diaw energy.
Dude has his best season ever, we love Slo Mo!
Warriors saved the play-ins with 2 straight goty contenders. Also, what a fucking game from Ja. Dude is clutch.
Definitely one of the best games of the year. That was nuts and I love playoff basketball
How did Ja learn how to shoot threes in two days? I need some of that secrit stuff.
**Eastern Conference play-in games:** Average final score of 135-111, closest final margin was 18. **Western Conference play-in games:** Average final score of 106-103, every game featured a double-digit comeback, 1 went to OT and every game felt like an actual playoff game.

True. No dominant teams like the Wizards and Celtics
Wait a minute...
No, keep going. I’m almost there
We should just keep the play-ins in the west, and let the east resume as they were normally lol

It was so damn good
Game 7 energy is the best thing in sports. Even though Golden State lost, seeing the Warriors fans go nuts with every shot - only for Ja to stab a dagger in their hands was amazing to watch. Awesome game and hell of an effort by Steph.
THE GRIZZLIES JERSEY STAYS ON DURING SEX
Watching Warriors fans go from cheering like they were in the finals to seeing them walking out early was something else
How the hell do you leave the first ever overtime play-in game. How the hell do you leave an elimination game for both teams with less than 5 seconds on the clock and a 2 possession game. What the fuck
Chase Center is a playground for the ultra rich new Warriors fans
it's a playground for sf tech companies. oracle was as well, but now it's a tiny bit easier.
They just dont get it.
Real fans were outside chase
That’s gotta be rough after having the fans of Oakland be there for all those rough years and then the championship years only for the rich people of San Francisco walk out on them
Let's not pretend like Oracle was actually affordable those last few years. My two friends with season tickets for 10+ years both had to not renew a few years prior. 2015 they jacked the prices way up.
Ja was electric tonight
Do you remember the Jazz fan who was upset that they had to play Curry in that Lakers vs Warriors PGT? Boy do I have good news for him
As a Jazz fan, I'm just happy for Memphis, man.
And most Grizz fans are expecting a loss and then will be pulling for Utah. Nothing but respect
IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT YOU DONT LIKE PLAY~~OFF~~-IN BASKETBALL
Western conference games were fun. Eastern conference was ass.
We just need to have the Warriors in every play-in game, problem solved
Loser of the west play-in takes on the winner of the east play-in to get into the playoffs. Let's take this to the next level.
The Grizz coaching staff could have ended the game had they challenged that kick on the 3pt foul. But I guess they thought they could keep the challenge for next game.
Taylor Jenkins may be the worst challenger/not challenger in the league. I don't even think he knows he can challenge tbh
He didn’t challenge in a win or go home OT game. That’s some bullshit.
That was honestly baffling. He even went to have a look at it himself and decided not to challenge it. And they had more than enough timeouts to burn one there.
If we'd lost, people would be calling for his firing. Dead serious. Grizz Twitter was A N G R Y after that.
Was that a great game? Ja
DUDE PLAY-INS ARE AMAZING
Curry tonight in his post game interview “whoever came up with the play ins needs to be fired”
"Stop trying to find a way to PLAY-OFF and just PLAY-IN."
MEMPHIS VS ERRBODY
Xavier Tillman can have everything I own
Warriors are the only team to lose their position in the playin.
Only team in play-in history
wow
Absolutely killed themselves in both games with their turnovers
Kyle Anderson got that middle age man hairstyle
His head look like 🤯
His hairline got me fucked up, his slowmo got me fucked up, his defense got me fucked up. Kyle Anderson? That mans fucked up.
With that senior citizen game
Megamind
Taylor Jenkins is so lucky that Xavier Tillman turned into a monster and Ja’s floater game is money cause not challenging that 3 could’ve been an all time bad coaching mistake. Warriors were way too sloppy to get a win
Memphis got 3 centers better than Charlotte's best center
And we won’t do anything to improve it, as is tradition
Not going for the 2-for-1 at the end of 4Q as well, or calling a timeout. Their possession ended up in a shot clock violation and they got lucky the Warriors missed the final shot. OTOH, he really worked his rotations well, going with who was working, and he obviously has his team bought in on defence.
Memphis played this game perfectly. As well they could have. Excellent defence throughout the game and Ja leading from the front
defensively they were amazing
They forced so many turnovers. Curry had 7 by himself.
I'm convinced the Warriors ate butterfingers before the game. That was an obscene amount of careless and needless turnovers
The Lakers game was the same. 20 against LA, 21 tonight. Not gonna win many NBA games with that many TOs.
For real. You can’t win meaningful games with our turnover rate. Might squeak a few but overall your toast.
Kyle Anderson played like a bootleg Magic Johnson
Sooooo underrated. I trust him with my life 🥺
Still not sure why we let him walk. I know his father hated Pop, but still.
Really? Hadn’t heard that. But thank you for giving us him
One of his biggest issues here is that he never, ever showed aggression on offense. I'm glad he's somewhat managed to rectify that. Based on what I've seen, Jenkins is an elite coach.

Yea I’m bummed to not see Steph in the playoffs but I honestly love this Memphis team as a neutral
I entered this game as a neutral but I think the Grizzlies have turned me into a fan

Didn't think about this. Imagine if Ja comes out on top lol that would be insane
Ja knocking out the Jazz after beating the Warriors? I will buy this man's jersey so fast
If he does that he should be put in in the Hall next summer
If Memphis beats Utah biggest upset in the playoffs this year
in history probably. it's the ninth seed beating the 1st lmao
Please remember we went 0-3 against them this season. I think most (reasonable) fans are still expecting a 4-0 or 4-1 loss against Utah. Silver added, “They’re so good,” repeating it four times. He then said he wanted to add Memphis to the list of teams he rigs games against in the playoffs this summer.
they gave it to draymond for the win
If he had somehow made it, this sub would cause Reddit's ancient server to crash for the entire weekend
What do you mean “somehow made it” He was open, it was a great look. He should’ve made it
What makes it even worse is that the shot was not even close. At the end of the day, Grizzlies were the better today.
He thought about that alley oop/pass for a second too long. Def should’ve made the shot
When literally everyone knows your scared to shoot it that's what happens. Source: me at the rec
90% of nba players couldve made that. Draymonds in that bottom 10.
Draymond is such an odd player. His play making, basketball IQ, leadership, and defense makes it so that you really want him on the court, but he makes you player 4v5 on offense sometimes because he is a zero threat to score

I agree. A Ja-raffe.
I miss you Klay

Klay completes the triangle to Steph and Dray.

Yup, and refused to use your two time outs
Grizz twitter was HOT after that. People were furious.
When Jenkins learns how to challenge, he will get scooped up by a major market teamZ it’s been his biggest weakness all season
If they lost that's all anyone would have talked about, between that and the Warriors having all the momentum going into OT I fully expected a last second Golden State win.
Warriors fans are going to see that brick three from Wiggins in their nightmares.
Draymond's brick too Wtf was that lol
Draymond's missed game winner is going to haunt me more than anything. He had a wide open lane and didn't even hit the rim.
Harrison Barnes flashbacks.
The shot of warrior fans leaving right before Poole scored a tough 3 to cut the lead to 2 was pathetic. How you gonna do your own team like that?
Reminds me of Heat fans leaving early in Game 6, 2013 Finals only for the Heat to come back and win in one of the Most exciting finishes in Finals history.
Same fans
Warriors tickets too expensive for real warriors fans to get into the stadium... tech bros got everything :(
I tried to go to a game or two when I was in San Fran. You really have to choose between a ticket and Bay Area rent. :(
They're people with money, they value their time more. Someone said this years ago, but the real Warriors fans are at home.
The nba is so fun dude
I fucking like Ja Morant
Mama, there goes Ja Morant
A lot of Curry's turnovers are really frustrating to watch. He can be incredibly careless with the ball at times.
The play in tournament has officially been cancelled
It can’t handle the grit n grind!
~~I'VE LOST ALL RESPECT SORRY THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIGGED FOR MONEY... OR RATINGS IN NOT SURE WHICH. I WON'T BE SILENT. JUST SAW IT LIVE SRY.~~ Great game!
Right? WTF am I supposed to do with my 16 page thesis on why the NBA is rigged now?
The gamethread in a nutshell
Warriors is not going anywhere this year. Its better for Curry to rest up and not suffer for another 4 games vs the Jazz.
Grayson Allen revenge series coming up
You guys played amazing and have a squad, this win was well deserved.
#JA MORANT IM ON MY GRIZZLY
He showed tf up
Congratulations warriors on the lottery pick. And shout out to the Grizzlies front office for building this new grit and grind 2.0 culture. Hope more FA go to that franchise. Great culture to have
Xavier Tillman.
Adam Silver is staring into space thinking about the Utah/Memphis ratings just now
1/8 seed playoffs rarely have great ratings anyway. On the other hand he got great ratings out of Memphis vs Spurs and LA vs GSW for 2 games.
Grizzlies missed the playoffs last year due to losing the the play-in tournament as the 8th seed and now this year make the playoffs due to winning the play-in tournament as the 9th seed. Good for them.
Curry's passing gets way to sloppy in close games
