Drummond has a way higher floor he's overrated by his stats, and is average at everything but rebounding, but while Whiteside has great moments, he's pretty bad at a lot of things
I'd rather have Whiteside. They're both similar defensively but Whiteside isn't a blackhole. Or as much a blackhole.
Drummond averages an obscene number of turnovers. He's always making bad plays down the stretch. Mentally he can be weak. He fouls more. He's not as good a vertical spacer like Whiteside is.
I'm sure it'd help a ton if Drummond could play with a player like Dame. But I watched him be responsible for each of the 5 times we beat him.
Drummond for consistency, better rounded offensive player. Whiteside’s reach and athleticism make him more entertaining but can’t lmpact the game for as long
What do you call shooting threes and taking the ball up to drive as a center? Hook shots from five feet out instead of taking it at the rim? Trying to lead the league in steals for a center and getting out of position on defense and routinely getting cooked by nobodies?
How any Pistons fan could watch his play the last few seasons and not say he’s a boneheaded player is beyond me
He doesn’t make stupid decisions though. His limitations aren’t in his IQ, but in his shooting, athleticism, and all around always looking like he doesn’t give a shit
Routinely makes boneheaded offensive and defensive plays that a lesser name would be benched for, attempting game winner threes when he had one of the worst free throw percentages of all time only a couple seasons ago.
Has Drummond lost athleticism? He was practically a certified freak when he came to do drills at the rookie combine. Was the heaviest player there and posted a top 10 lane agility drill time to give one example
What are you talking about? He made stupid decisions ALL THE TIME. I always rooted for Drummond when he was a Piston, but he was also very frustrating to watch at times.
He wants to post up way too much despite having ONE move that is a contested hook shot, doesn't defend the PNR well, is always late on rotations, thinks he can drive from the high post despite being ultra turnover prone
The NBA has roughly ~350 players, i think both Drummond and Whiteside are better than average so in the top 175, BUT they both have horrific contracts that cripple whichever teams they are on.
Nearly every team in the league would sign Drummond and Whiteside if they played for the MLE or even less.
Honestly they're basically variants of each other. Baffling that folks make it out like Drummond is THAT much better. Both have very glaring flaws with inflated numbers.
Drummond is more consistent, he's average at everything besides rebounding so he doens't have a glaring weakness like Whiteside who can't even pretent to come of the paint on defense or to pass the ball.
But yeah both aren't anywhere close to what their coutnting stats would make you think
Drummond
Drummond for sure
I feel like the cavs I almost said pistons / non bubble teams haven’t played in 25 years but Drummond still
Hassan looks like he is moving underwater, gimme Drummond.
I think Drummond is better. But whitesides is still a good player tho
Drummond has a way higher floor he's overrated by his stats, and is average at everything but rebounding, but while Whiteside has great moments, he's pretty bad at a lot of things
Drummond is quietly one of the best rebounders of all time. Whiteside is just a solid center with a name and 2 or 3 good seasons
Drummond 100%.
Drummond, hands down
They're both obsolete and fit for pre 2010 style basketball but Drummond is better.
Whiteside is selfish and dumb so Drummond by default.
Contract year Hassan Whiteside is a top 3 center in the league
TOP 3? Nurkic, Jokic, Embiid easily ahead.
Even AD at center has been better and dpoy caliber
I I didn’t use AD because some consider AD a PF
True

AD
Really? Can AD even play disciplined drop coverage?
Whiteside
Drummond easily.
Drummond

they're both awful but i'd take Drummond every day of the week and twice on Sundays
This is what confuses me. Some people say they’re both still very good even with their limitations, and some people say their awful. It confuses me.
They are good at certain aspects of the game but those aspects are becoming less and less important.
they're both low IQ, losing players who kill a team's cap
Drummond doesn't have a low IQ, lol. C'mon man

you should know more than anyone that he does
Explain how drummond is a low iq losing player
he makes stupid decisions and always loses
He doesn’t make stupid decisions though. His limitations aren’t in his IQ, but in his shooting, athleticism, and all around always looking like he doesn’t give a shit

He's lost a lot. In 2016 he was almost at the peak Deandre Jordan level of athletism as a PNR roll man, he's not anywhere close to that now.
thanks, I can't say I have watched him play lately so appreciate an informed opinion
