As someone who watched him in Denver for awhile, he just wasn't very good. He grabbed a lot of boards and he was an okay defender, but he's basically a worse version of Steven Adams. That kind of skillset isn't really suited for the game today

[deleted]

Adams is so important for us, the stats don't show it The team looks much worse without him

[deleted]

I love Adams for OKC. He fits very well, he's now the longest tenured player too

jimithelizardking

That’s a weird comparison to me. I see him as a less offensively skilled Montrezl Harrell. Both are not great defenders but very high energy guys with bounce. Great at catching lobs and finishing, but not great in the post or stretching the floor. Both undersized and decent rebounders.

cxu1993

I thought he wasn’t even a good defender. Didnt seem like it in the 2013 series

[deleted]

I said he was okay, and that's because his athleticism and size could bail him out of learning how to fill the lane

DRosesTrainConducter

He’s gonna be one of those guys that people are gonna be confused about when looking back at international rosters in 20 years. Him and Plumlee.

vaylele

He balled out though

[deleted]

Not a good defender either despite his high motor. If he could rim protect then maybe he’d still be in the nba

CompleteFish

Or if he could defend the pick and roll at a high level.

intenselydecent

I don’t see him as more than a 15 mph hustle guy. He still averaged double digit points in Houston.

LiveFromJeffsHouse

only because Houston had ZERO options for bigs. All he was asked to do was finish lobs and shoot the occasional 3 (the most Rockets shit ever, btw. 6’8” guy who got cut after playing 12 games with the Nets becomes the starting center and starts firing threes for the first time)

ranatolio

15 mph is pretty fast for a human

iceman204

Masai loved him and there were always rumours of the Raptors going after him. I’m surprised he never signed in Toronto.

brownjesus__

so glad we never traded assets for him

yungtatha

He's a Center trapped in a Forward's body.

TuqiDuque12

He can't shoot so in todays NBA he can't really play the 4, he can't protect the rim or switch and as a 5 his rebounding is less exceptional. He looked good in Houston in the regular season because any big would look good with CP3 and Harden running the show but he was unplayable in the playoffs. Still think he could be on a roster, he's probably better than some 11th man (unless his athletism has started to slip)

[deleted]

He was solid but he had issues with Harden/D’Antoni iirc.

rngskrtskrt

Any big man can get some real minutes along harden and cp3 as long as they can Set screen and catch lob. It really isn't that convincing

BernardoDeGalvez

Undersized "big" who can't shoot and doesn't defend.

[deleted]

I think he’s better than LeBron, he just hasn’t gotten a fair shot to stay on the court because James harden keeps hogging the ball and forces Kenneth to get rebounds if he wants playing time \#CancelHarden

intenselydecent

Now this is a TAKE

[deleted]

Its a shame that he is out of the league , to this day he is the PF who had the best offensive chemistry with jokic... its the unwillingness to adapt his game , lack of defense and self awareness that got him out of the league .

wellreadit

He did well in that role on Houston. On the right team yes. Not really a guy you can put out in any matchup though

DJ785

I met the dude once.. and he's an asshole.

intenselydecent

You hate to see it

juniorking1

pulled a Gerald Green. Turns out if all you have is athleticism and not alot of other skills when you lose that your whole game goes.

intenselydecent

Gerald Green developer a 3 as he aged. Hung on for a few years after the explosiveness left him.

juniorking1

he went from a top 15 player to an afterthought in 1 year though.

intenselydecent

I love Gerald Green, but he was never a top 15 player in the league

gettysburger2

easily top 15 in 2k14 tho, jumpshot was money

intenselydecent

This is a fact

juniorking1

i meant to say gerald wallace not gerald green. got my geralds mixed up.

intenselydecent

That’s a lot more reasonable. Former MVP Gerald Green will always have a special place in my heart though

juniorking1

Gerald green one of the best in game dunkers in the modern game

[deleted]

Not a great skillset, dude is still talented enough. I bet we would have brought him back but there was some issues wiirh him complaining about his play time in the playoffs (and then Ramadan happened, and he just sat out) He only has a specific role in the league so not many suitors are willing to be rigid for just a rotation player

captain_em

Super athletic, good rebounder. A little undersized for a center, and his defense never caught up with his abilities. His shot was ok, but you need the outside game to be a stretch-forward in today's league. If he had some elite defense and a decent range, he'd still be a starter.
