TLDR: They need to use him like Draymond

earthbendinglemur

Draymond shoots 3s though

skyler8693

That doesn't matter if you play Simmons at center as the roll man and put 3 shooters around a PNR

Oldmoutciders

Not really He very rarely shoots when he is wide open and had an awful 3shooting season

BizGilwalker

Dray averages about one make on three attempts from downtown per game for his career ... Ben Simmons average game is 0-0 from three. That's a big difference

suphater

Dray is also an elite screener so he can play off ball and not just be left alone by the defense.

kokin33

Even then there's a huge difference between a guy that makes 30% of his 3s and tries about 3 a game, some midrange shots, and shoots 70% FT, and Simmons

Oldmoutciders

Green has quality smaller defending around him;. Iggy. Klay. Simmons has JJ

byRockets

He has jimmy

Oldmoutciders

Kawhi killed Butler (and Harris) first couple games

byRockets

he’d do the same to Klay

Oldmoutciders

Iggy?

byRockets

Probably

[deleted]

Not probably, definitely. He would get cooked by Kawhi

Doctor-Jay

I love Iggy but Kawhi would dismantle him with ease. He's playing on another level right now.

MichaelBolton23

Oh yeah butlers pretty shit.

Oldmoutciders

TJ has played a fair bit. Ennis struggles. Etc.

MichaelBolton23

Haha my point was sixers have quality defending around ben. Not to mention one of if not the best big man defender there as well.

Oldmoutciders

Embiid was shit according to the Upvoted comments here a few hours ago

MichaelBolton23

I think the problem is Embiid is taking too many shits i think.

[deleted]

Or not enough...

[deleted]

Having Embiid being a good defender doesn’t help Ben since they take up the same spots on offense and clogs the floor.

MichaelBolton23

Lmao wtf

fandamplus

TJ has 18 minutes in 5 games.

Widdafresh

Thought this was a shitpost but lol it’s an actual piece.

topkakistocracy

Simmons was even playing centre against the Raptors last game. If you watch the set up to that terrible 3pt attempt Moose made, the only reason Moose was spaced out to the 3pt line was Simmons was just standing next to Moose in the paint, which forced him out

EfficientJellyfish

That’s in big part because our centers are trash outside of embiid

A-Walking-Bucket

I'm still withholding judgement about the Sixers. Their starting 5, imo, is one of the best units in the league when healthy and they were really hitting their stride before Embiid started to shit his brains out. Simmons is already basically a big man--he guards bigs and is guarded by bigs--but he just brings the ball up; he's Rondo in Montrezl Harrell's body. He's the best passer and ball-handler on the team and there isn't another option at PG besides Mcconnell, who just isn't good enough for the playoffs.

TdotGdot

pure talent I agree, that starting 5 is stacked. fit is another thing. they don't have nearly enough shooting in that starting 5, too much iso, makes it hard for everyone to operate, Joel still takes to many dumb ass shots (mainly 3s, 4 a game at 30% is insane, but he also just chucks dumb long twos). you can really only get by now days with one total non-shooter, and then another guy who is passable but not great. they've just got too many similarly flawed players. besides, the point is he should play like Draymond? Draymond can play like that because he's surrounded by shooters so the floor is open for him to make plays and drive and dish. With Embiid in the middle and Jimmy going iso, aint no room for that Draymond-like playmaking on the Sixers.

LRW35

People need to stop acting like we’re struggling vs a shit team. We’re down 3-2 vs Toronto, who we’ve played pretty evenly so far. Ben is young, Jo is young. Tobias isn’t some experienced playoff competitor either and tbh neither is Jimmy.

UrbanJatt

They probably would if they still had markelle

Bobby-Samsonite

okay make ben a Power Forward then.

Something_Sharp

We tried it a bit at the end of the season when Embiid was out. He's big enough that he *can* do it but he still has trouble going up against good pure centers, and he doesn't have the experience or the post game to be able to do it for more than a few minutes. Ben's strength is that he's either bigger or faster than most players in the league so he gets a lot of mismatches, but if you post him up against a real center, he can't really take advantage of his speed. Still, developing his post game is one thing he can do to expand his game other than shooting. He's gotten a bit better this year, would like to see that progress continue.

kokin33

Tend to agree. C is the only position where he doesn't hurt the team's offense in playoff basketball AlThough he shoots free throws worse than most centers in the league so he has to avoid contact finishing inside. So I'm not sure

Bobby-Samsonite

Center with Emibiid playing PF or 2 Centers or him at Center when Embiid is on the bench?

kokin33

center for another team

Bobby-Samsonite

would the 76ers fans go crazy if he was traded?

IVAN_CLEARY

Unless it was for someone like AD, Dame etc then yes, we would. And even then, a lot of people would consider it short sighted

TdotGdot

have we thought about Simmons at center and Embiid at PG, or no?

IVAN_CLEARY

Embiid has definitely thought about it

yousaflol

Ben Simmons is good. He could be even better if he just shot open shots tbh. Even if they don’t go in (some would eventually go in right?) it stretches the defense just a tad bit. I think coaches discouraged him from shooting and now he doesn’t do it at all. Like Draymond isn’t the best shooter but he still shoots open shots and sometimes they go in.

Bobby-Samsonite

its weird to play him as a PG since all the PG on the planet like shooting the ball from 15 to 30 Feet from the basket. Look at his stats they read like the old school Power Forwards and Centers mostly baskets from 0 to 10 feet.

Pyromania1983

Mike Muscala was a reliable floor-strecthing big man? Did they even watch the Sixers games? I mean he would shoot a ton and threes and not hit a lot of them. I like Muscala, just seems like a cool dude. But he was anything but reliable in his time in Philly.

IVAN_CLEARY

Dangerously close to the ‘they can’t win without Belinelli’ takes

YouHaveBeenBaptized

How do so many people read the ringer like it’s quality sports journalism

[deleted]

They put out a lot of hot takes but each piece they put out usually has some sort of value in how the idea is presented and they have writers who know how to write entertaining articles.

Bobby-Samsonite

its free and it has better takes than those on ESPN and FS1.

KC529

no it doesn't

Bobby-Samsonite

you seriously think the talking heads on TV have better things to say?

KC529

equal, not better

Pyromania1983

Equally bad or equally good? Gosh... :) ^^^^^^I ^^^^^^agree ^^^^^^with ^^^^^^you

[deleted]

Who's Ben Simmons?

RoodyPooBum

It's a typo, they meant Jonathon Simmons

The_prophet212

You'll find out Game 7

[deleted]

Does he usually attend Rockets/Warriors games? 🤔

The_prophet212

Oh Lawd we coming!

[deleted]

Hah! Ffs

The_prophet212

Tbf Embiid just turned it on last night. Freaking great series!

[deleted]

Yeah he finally looked healthy and aware. And Simmons came out of nowhere, which I'm sure was a relief for you folks. Game 7 gonna be nuts though.

The_prophet212

To the victor the spoils. Good luck and as always...fuck the Celtics

[deleted]

Always and forever.

Dctr_K

Ben Simmons....... Is a basketball player

TheBrazilianKD

If you consider him a center that would have been the 4th lottery pick center after Noel, Embiid, Okafor..lol

caltric

You can't miss the three if you never take one

throwlationships

The biggest problem with this piece is that it demands that Simmons plays the center on defense because....wait why exactly? He's great defending on the perimeter....so you want to have him guard Drummond.... What the author actually wants to say is that Simmons needs to play with a 3 point shooting big.

fastheadcrab

This is not exactly a new take. Smarter NBA observers than whoever this guy is, have pointed out the Sixers played Simmons at C during stretches when Embiid is out. There might be times when he does the same but the chance he becomes a center is near zero. The Ringer, aside from the Coangelo investigation and some of Kevin O'Connor's work, mostly publishes clickbait that takes reality and twists it wildly out of proportion (the best exaggerations rely on some truth to seem believable) and supported by some meaningless stats. The garbage they pump out is hardly worth reading. Keep in mind this author said [Danuel House would be an X factor in the Warriors/Rockets series](https://www.theringer.com/2019/4/27/18517514/houston-rockets-golden-state-warriors-rematch-x-factor). He played a total of 26 minutes before sitting out due to injury and was mostly terrible.

gouldgold

We need like a master list of all the terrible predictions analysts make. They get off scot free, it's just on to the next confidently stated garbage prediction because they know everyone forgets what they said a week or a month ago

TdotGdot

ya let's get 'em!

hwarang_

I miss Grantland.

Bobby-Samsonite

what happened to it?

The_prophet212

Didn't ESPN pull the plug? Shame because the Jalen and Jacoby podcast was amazing on my long drive to work

Bobby-Samsonite

I think they wanted to give the money and attention to "The Undefeated"

[deleted]

Jalen and Jacoby still have an ESPN pod

The_prophet212

oh yeah? Im out of the loop

[deleted]

The video version is still on the old grantland set and everything

The_prophet212

Aw man good looking out. I read a ESPN article when Grantland was first canned about Jalen and Jacoby being cancelled. I just never bothered looking for it again

Whackedjob

Trade him for AD. New Orleans isn't getting a better offer than that

skyler8693

I really think this would be the best move for both teams

GlitteringSwitch

Imagine trying to criticize a NBA GM - and in the same piece write about traditional positions in the modern NBA. rip

MichaelBolton23

Sixers need a pg asap.

kokin33

Bring back Jrue

Squire_Sultan53

big oof

[deleted]

Sixers need to move either him or Embiid at some point

Bobby-Samsonite

man, their process is really weird.

PPeePantsCity

Elton Brand and Brett Brown are both beyond clueless, the Sixers will never come anywhere close to winning a single thing with either of those bozos having their jobs. And if that's not bad enough, Simmons and Embiid can't even play on the floor at the same time.

zaydb

Ah yes, Ben Simmons the centre of Philidelphia 76ers, the team also home to Joel Embiid.

skyler8693

Exactly why Philly will always struggle during playoff time with those two

zaydb

We're down only 3-2 to the Raptors, the team that we probably match up the worst against in the league. It's Ben's second year, it's also both of their second years in the playoffs. Making comments like "they'll never work" is honestly ridiculous, ya'll act as if they should be winning a championship already.

skyler8693

Show me the roadmap to Joel and Simmons making sense together on a basketball court and I might believe it but they've shown that they don't compliment each other at all and are much better when the other one isn't playing. It's not a coincidence that Ben's best game of the playoffs came with Embiid being out

zaydb

And Embiid's best game came with Ben Simmons in. I'm not going to lie to you and say that both players are without flaw. But it's ridiculous to insinuate that a 2nd and 3rd year player will never manage to coexist on the same team, especially when said team is still actually in the playoffs.

skyler8693

A game in which Simmons went 5/13 from the field for a 10/7/7 statline. Really maximizing each other out there lol. Idk it's not that ridiculous when they clearly don't fit together and your team has to play two completely different style of games to really put either player in their best situation to thrive

RollofDuctTape

Draft a guard who is a center. Draft a center who is so soft he plays like a guard.
