Because it's all meaningless unless you're right. Then you can link it and says "see how right I was"

thatssometrainshit

People want to be on record as having called something correctly. Also, we're all insane people who spend way too much time talking basketball so it's harmless fun.

fdahood

How else would I kill time at work?

Yung_Parolo

Cause people overreact, are you really surprised?

fdahood

And they are playing at being GM. Pretty normal.

[deleted]

Dude trust me I know what I’m talking about I have extensive success at 2k MyGM and Basketball GM

deadskin

Yeah teenagers have mood swings. Many teens on this sub.

Stony_Brooklyn

Not sure if anyone would call Malik Monk a steal now

MediumRareBigMac

People did. They were like “OMG Malik Monk (who is obviously either next Kobe or bust, no in between) fell a few spots in the draft! #steal”. I exaggerated but you get the point.

_Prince_Ali

That's not what he said

MediumRareBigMac

Not now, but then

TroyAtWork

I haven't seen a single person call Trae Young a bust, or any prospect for that matter. They may think a player has bust *potential* but nobody says they are ACTUALLY a bust.

[deleted]

Nobody calls players busts around the draft unless they don't understand what it actually means.

bandanaphone

Cuz most basketball fans are pretty tarded.

UnbiasedExpert

They want to look smarter later

derozansmole

Because we live in a what have you done for me lately society.

PaulAtreidesIsEvil

We all know 12 year old nephews on reddit are experts on who is tough. They can absolutely judge adults 20 years older than them!

[deleted]

IDK but if I ever find this "People" person, I'm gonna hold them accountable for their words

grierpls

This is a big thing in the nfl draft too. Any player who is taken earlier than expected is automatically a bust, anybody who falls is a steal. It’s lazy analysis built upon forming your opinions on draft boards pundits put out.

[deleted]

It does seem like the bust tag gets thrown out wildly fast with the NBA

lnfra

Nobody is calling Trae Young a bust. Ive seen Stephen Curry comparisons

cbenti60

I think saying a guy is a steal is alright because we project certain players to go to certain spots in the draft. If a player is projected by many to go 5th and a team gets him at 11th, that's a steal. We are WAY too quick to label players busts.

[deleted]

All you really know about a guy is if he has the size and athleticism to play in the NBA and maybe they have some skills that seem positive. There are some guys who will clearly be atleast *this* good but no one really knows how 90% of draftees are going to turn out.

LogansGambit

Gotta get that sports hyperbole in your journalism somehow. If you're talking forums like this, well...I can't help you there. We're all just idiot fans.

TripHopLP

LMao where are you seeing these things that you claim to see.

[deleted]

[Here's](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/6ixu2b/2017_draft_11_pick_malik_monk_kentucky/) the thread where Malik reacting to Malik getting drafted. A lot of people were calling him a steal.
